Mending A Broken Heart
Amanda is a young woman trapped in a lustful situation between her boss and the man she hired as her replacement. Ken is her boss who has a history with Amanda in the most explosive way possible. They are venom for each other yet they can't stay away. One day Adam strolls in off the street looking for a job and takes Amanda for a ride as well. She is torn between two men who are total opposites and yet everything she has ever wanted. The problem is each man has part of her heart and wont let go.

This book was a complete and wonderful surprise. As a rule, I normally stick to cut-and-dry romance, but this book blew out of the water in the very best of ways. It’s a RAW, honest, and ultimately hopeful depiction of a real-life love story, with all the messy, complicated, and flawed characters that make it incredibly authentic.
If I had to pick, I would say that the core of this book is the AWESOME commitment to authenticity and character growth. Amanda is SUPER, SUPER relatable. Her struggles with feeling "uncomfortable in her own skin" and believing she doesn't "deserve it," I felt like I was reading somewhat of a biography. Watching her mature and find self-awareness as the story moved forward... it literally feels impossible not to apply her journey as a lesson to one's own life.
Beyond the personal drama, the author's attention to detail is remarkable. The depiction of the workplace was both extremely vivid as well as accurate to a T. From the employee dynamics, things that can go wrong to "higher up" behavior, it was done so perfectly that I felt like I was an employee right alongside Amanda and Ken.
I really was ready to despise Ken, but the beauty of this "real story" is the absence of black-and-white characters or heroes. Like all of us, he's flawed, but he's genuinely trying to be the best human he can be.
Then there’s Adam. He's definitely not your run of the mill MMC. You think you know him at first and are ready to go GAAAAAAH, but when "stuff hit," I was left reeling and going, "No freaking way." Still, his inner beauty and love make you ache for something like that to hit your own life.
As Ashli's first book, this is beyond an outstanding piece of literature. She has crafted a story that manages to be a stunning, all-consuming romance while being so freaking real. If you're looking for a love story that challenges the typical tropes and offers genuine, very beautiful, rich, complex characters, look no further because this is so winner, winner, chicken dinner!

Mending A Broken Heart felt raw and deeply relatable from the start. Amanda’s journey is messy in a way that feels true to life, especially as she navigates the emotional pull of her past while trying to understand what she actually deserves moving forward. I appreciated how the story didn’t shy away from flawed choices or complicated feelings. Nothing is wrapped up too neatly, and that made it feel more authentic.
The contrast between the relationships in Amanda’s life really stood out to me. One is intense and familiar, the kind that’s hard to let go of even when you know it isn’t healthy, while the other offers something unexpected and grounding. Watching Amanda sort through those emotions and slowly rediscover her sense of self made the story compelling and heartfelt.
