Sometimes, the only way to keep love alive is to keep it a secret.
MADISON CALDWELL never pictured herself as the type of girl to be swept up in a whirlwind, star-studded romance, even as a self-proclaimed hopeless romantic. Her dating life before New Year's Eve was dead on arrival. But then, a dream man sauntered into her life in a neon-colored haze, bringing out a side to her she never knew she had.
CALLUM LAMBERT could get any girl he wanted with a wink and a charming smile, relying on his status as a star athlete. However, a tragic accident sidelined him away from baseball, his first love, without removing all the expectations accompanying his fame. The former center fielder never let love tear down his mile-high walls until a woman turned everything he "knew" about love on its head.
Madi and Cal are out of their element when it comes to dating, but their chemistry promises an experience neither wants to share with the nosy world around them. Love can stay theirs if they keep it to themselves.
Born and raised in California, Cassandra Diviak loves stories more than life.
When her mother gifted her a Greek mythology atlas, her love of reading jumpstarted her interest in writing. As a child with severe ADHD, Diviak would consume a book a day and start to imagine stories of her own.
Between the schoolyard at recess and the quiet lunch table during the lunch hour, Diviak wrote stories starting at age 8. She had dreams of becoming the next big thing in writing.
For years, she honed her craft with plenty of practice. Everything she learned about writing came from reading and doing. Self-taught, she didn't take her first creative writing course until she was 19 and in college.
During the 2020 pandemic, a professor had convinced Diviak to try her hand at Nanowrimo with a set of characters she'd been holding on to for a while. After a successful draft, completed in 6 months, Diviak set out to become an indie author.
Since her debut novel, published in October 2021, Diviak has continued to write stories in several romance genres. Although she has lived many lives, writing remains a fixture in her world.
When she's not writing, Diviak is likely obtaining a college degree. She has a Bachelor's in Political Science with a minor in gender studies and is in the process of getting a JD from a Los Angeles-based law school.
*Thank you to Cassandra for providing me with an ARC for an honest review!
It's always sad to see a series end but this was a wonderful story to say goodbye. Cassandra was able to write a story that was full of such sweet moments.
Cal had been through such a traumatic moment that changed his dreams. Seeing his journey shape into something different and the way he came to the quiet acceptance to it was done so beautifully. He was such a caring and loving person, and Madi was a wonderful match to him. I adored her confidence and maturity, and she brings such a brightness to Cal's world.
These two were just so adorable yet sexy. I really enjoyed the low angst and moving story that Cassandra brought to this couple. This was truly a great way to end the series!
3.5 star rating!! Firstly I want to thank Cassandra and her team for providing an ARC!! I am so so sad to see this series come to an end! I am an avid reader of Cassandra's books and I always enjoy myself while reading. This book was super cute and sweet, and hit the spot for something really fluffy with of course, some smut hehe. Overall, it was not my favourite book of the series (Jensen and Daisy have my heart) but Madi and Cal were so well suited I can't even argue. They were so mature and had this comforting nature to them. I adored seeing their relationship blossom, it felt quite natural and wholesome. I cannot wait to see what else Cassandra has in store for us in the future!!
What a way to end the series! I really love the characters Cassandra creates, and there’s so much love and empathy in both Cal and Madi, the two MCs in this story.
🥰 It’s a cute story, with a great, fearless FMC (and such great curvy girl rep - this is how you do it well!!), and a cinnamon roll MMC who seems all happy and cheerful but so much depth to this character as well. While it is generally a happy + cheerful book, it does also reflect real life drama + trauma, and there’s a great TW / CW page at the front of the book.
i want to thank cassandra and her team for an ARC copy of this book💛
ill be honest this wasn’t my favorite of her royal ridge series but i still had a great time getting to watch cal and madi grow as characters and build a relationship, i loved how madi was such a sunshine lover girl and that she brought out the softer side of cal and that he felt safe with her from the beginning and that cal grew as a character through the other relationships in his life, i really just wished we’d gotten more moments of them together in the beginning part of their relationship💛
What to expect: * Former athlete mmc * Pediatric nurse fmc * Reformed playboy x lover girl * Plus sized rep * Ptsd rep * Sneaking around * One night stand gone viral
I enjoyed reading this story! I loved taking my time with it because it gave me something to look forward to. Madi’s feelings about herself I feel like is so relatable and the questioning of other’s intentions with her. But I loved how wonderful Cal was with her. He was such a sweetheart, not just to her but to others as well. Madi has such a sunshine personality and I feel like Cal really does too when he’s with her. I also loved how we got some moments with Daisy & Jensen! I am so sad that this series is ending but so happy I got to read their story!
(I read this back in Feb and thought I posted a review but it’s definitely posted now 😭)
Thank you Cassandra for giving me the opportunity to read this arc!
