4.5 ⭐️ | Greed at its finest! I really enjoyed this story, it sucked me in from the very beginning and kept my interest the entire time. Amaya is set to receive a significant inheritance at the age of 30, and the lengths that her “loved ones” are willing to through to get their hands on her money is truly diabolical. With a gaslighting, narcissistic husband & others in her immediate circle that she can’t trust, will Amaya stand a chance?
Overall a great read, with a very easy to love FMC & a typical hated antagonist lol. The narration in the audiobook was phenomenal, J.R. Mason truly brings life to these characters, and makes you feel like you’re listening to a movie set. I also really enjoyed the alternating POVs, it’s always good to hear each side in 1st person. I’m looking forward to more from this author, as I enjoyed her wiring style.

A domestic, psychological thriller with a wealthy wife and her high school sweetheart and the masked wonderful marriage. Your skin will crawl all over as the author creates a cringe worthy array of people you don’t want in your corner, whether blood related or chosen family. Keep your eyes open even while you sleep. The characters will make you side eye them every step of the way. Thriller lovers will enjoy every bit of this. Did I guess the ending, NOPE!

This was a good read, I read it in one day because the suspense refused to let me put it down. I did the audiobook and would highly recommend, the narration and the sound effects added to the story.
All Amaya needed was to love herself and to be loved. Unfortunately the people closest to her were full of lies, deceit and greed. The ones that truly loved her were ripped from her. I was rooting for Amaya’s happiness from the beginning to end and I’m glad she was able to get it at the end.
Now the only question that I have…where is book 2??

This was wild as hell lol that lady husband only saw dollar signs. This reminded me of a soap opera with all the mess that was going on. I liked the sound effects but something about the audio was off to me. I still enjoyed this domestic thriller and would recommend it. 3.5 stars

The premise was good, but, for me, the delivery is lacking.
Amaya is an extremely wealthy young woman married to a man who is too-good-to-be-true. Quentin is handsome, sexy, and cooks her gourmet dinners. She is the silent partner in a business that is run by her husband, and Josh, her cousin. However, early on, we learn that these two men might not have the best intentions when it comes to Amaya. Quentin is gas-lighting Amaya as part of his scheme to get her millions for himself. His plan is that by her next birthday, when she comes into her complete inheritance, the money will be his, and she will be gone. Is her beloved cousin Josh a part of this?
As far as the writing goes, dialogue reads like the character is reading from a piece of paper. It is flat, stilted, repetitive, and expository (the whole book is expository). After reading the first third, we have learned: Sandra has been with Amaya since Amaya was a child living with her grandparents; her grandparents were kind and rich; Amaya was bullied; Amaya and Sandra’s daughter, Annie, were very close up to their teens; Sandra and Annie are estranged due to Annie’s (supposedly) irrational belief that Sandra is closer to Amaya; and that Sandra says Amaya is like a second daughter to her. We now have a scene where Sandra and Amaya have a conversation where they tell each other the above information (again). It doesn’t come across as two people chatting; it is like a script someone has just put in their hands.
This bothered me, but it may not bother you. The girl-in-peril story line is enjoyable, and I can tell the author poured her whole heart into this story. Because of this, I respect her and her love of her character, Amaya.

This is a solid story, not only a thriller with many twists and turns and deceptions, but also with a positive message. There is help out there for people who have been abused and gaslighted and used, and the end of their story is not yet written. This book had many helpful hints (from a fictional therapist) to help in emotional/ stressful times. I particularly enjoyed the 5-4-3-2-1 grounding method. (5 things with a sense such a vision, 4 things you can hear, 3 things you can smell, 2 things you can feel, 1 thing you can taste... those might not be in the correct order)...

spoiler alert (small spoiler alert since it's on the blurb of the back cover)I strongly dislike Q, Amaya's husband (I hate the word hate. Hatred is an ugly emotion the requirements too much energy IMO)... and maybe even another character ranks right up there with my dislike....
So why the 4 stars if I truly enjoyed the story? This is the author's debut, and the writing/ editing is on point. Some of the dialogue felt stiff, maybe even forced or unrealistic.... It did NOT take away from the actual story though....
If there is a sequel, which I hope there is, I look forward to seeing the way this author grows with her writing skills.

When greed is involved, just how far will someone go to get what they want? This one dives right into that.
I received the audio of this one and it was such a fast-paced, quick listen! @author_j.r.mason absolutely delivered with the narration 👏🏻 She brought the story and its characters to life and made this one especially easy to fly through.
This domestic thriller with psychological elements had me hooked, especially because the antagonist was someone I HATED almost immediately. And while there were definitely moments when I wanted to shake Amaya and yell, “GIRL, OPEN YOUR EYES!” 😩 I was still rooting for my girl and hoping she would finally see through all the manipulation.
Between the gaslighting, deception, and ever-present question of who can actually be trusted, this story really boils down to one thing: GREED. And the lengths people are willing to go to obtain wealth can be downright chilling.
This was my first read from indie author Geletta Shavers, and I’m glad I gave it a listen! If you’re looking for a quick domestic thriller with psychological elements, manipulation, and a whole lot of questionable behavior, definitely consider picking this one up.

This psychological thriller had me hooked from the start. Our main character, Amaya, inherits millions after the tragic death of her wealthy grandparents—but that’s just the beginning. She’s surrounded by a cast of shady, manipulative people who push her to the brink, including an absolutely awful husband who puts her through hell. Despite everything, Amaya eventually finds her crew—loyal, trustworthy friends who finally give her the support she deserves.
The story is packed with tension, twists, and emotional ups and downs. Amaya can be frustratingly naïve at times, but that only makes her growth more satisfying. The narration was fantastic, and the storytelling kept me interested.
If you're a fan of authors like Freida McFadden or S.A. Cosby, and you enjoy intense drama with complex character dynamics, this book is for you. I’ll definitely be reading more from this author and will be recommending this to friends and family!

ALC 🎧: This book started off with me clutching my pearls in the prologue & by the end I was still clutching my pearls with my hand over my mouth 🫢!
Amaya is very wealthy and her husband Quentin knows this. Amaya has had a lot of traumatic things happen in her life so she sees a mental health therapist. Some things start happening so Amaya thinks she is losing her mind while her husband sits by and watch being supportive. At least that’s what she thinks he is doing but OOOOOO NO, that Quentin has some secrets he is hiding and may very well be contributing to her losing her mind along with her friend Josh.
This story has so many plot twists, secrets upon secrets, a few slow singing and flower bringing too…I was on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what is going to happen next!
P.S. The other characters in this story has some deep secrets too and you are going to want to know what all the secrets are & how or if it all comes together!!!

The good- This book touches on mental health issues within the African American community. Since becoming a teacher and working with black students I’ve learned a lot about the struggles and stigma behind getting help.
Storylines and plot were great. Loved the multiple POV. And that last chapter makes me want to know what comes next.
The bad and ugly- I thought about DNFing the book when it came to how the characters spoke to each other. It seemed like a poorly written soap opera. Not at all how real people speak to one another. I know this is her first book, and I hate to sound negative, but I also feel as someone being asked to give a review that I must be honest. And perhaps my comments may be helpful because like I said I can’t wait to see what happens to Amaya and “Tyler” next.

The story itself is engaging and interesting and I definitely wanted to know the plan and what was going on. Most of the characters were complicated, deceitful or evil with only a couple who were truly people you cared about.
The main character seemed to have her heart in the right place and her housekeeper/mother figure seemed amazing.
My complaint is that it needs an editor and a lot of the writing etc was pretty clunky and I wouldn't have finished the book if it hadn't been an ARC.
I hope she keeps writing because she has plenty of talent and I am hoping that with some editing help her next book- maybe about Tyler will be just as engaging but better written.

Amaya Montgomery inherited the family fortune at a young age and her husband is scheming to get his hands on it by trying to make her crazy and killing anyone who gets in her way. This would make for an intense psychological thriller. But some if it didn’t feel right. A lot of descriptive narratives that took away and slowed the story. I also felt that at moments I was really into the story and other times I felt far removed. On a production note, the small font of made it harder to read. The larger font for the diary entries were more the norm. For a debut novel, it wasn’t half bad.

For a debut novel this book held together very well. The plot was intriguing and kept me turning the pages. Amaya is a wealthy young woman about to get even wealthier on her thirtieth birthday when she will inherit millions. Unbeknownst to her her husband has had a plan in place for years to steal it away from her by driving her to the brink of madness. Amaya must gather her strength and step up her game to outwit and outlast what is coming at her. I liked her character and how she grew throughout the story. Recommended. 3.5 stars

Generally, this is a good book. Lots going on and a good, fast-moving story. The writer seems unsure of herself when it comes to writing dialog. I think her dialog would have a better flow if she just relaxed and "let her hair down" a little when writing dialog. Occasionally her sentence structures were a little jumbled, sometimes making it difficult to understand the meaning of the sentence. The way the book ended suggests a sequel, which should be entertaining. With some good editing, it should get more than 3 stars.

As soon as I started reading this book it reminded me of 1 of my favorite movies called Gaslight. Gaslight is the story of a woman is being manipulated by those closest to her for riches. The same is happening to MC Amaya. Young, rich, beautiful Amaya has to figure out what's going on with the people close to her. Why are the people close to her either being hurt or disappearing or dying as her 30th birthday approaches?
Amaya has to examine clues from the past and present to find the truth. Will she figure it out in time?

Greed is a terrible thing!! Especially when it’s someone you close with. I was tuned in from the beginning because I needed to know what was going to happen next. The audio production reminded me of one of those older recordings when you hear them acting out closing the doors or running water and hearing the coffee making brewing coffee or something like that! Lol! You dont hear audiobooks recorded like that anymore unless it’s done by Audible.
Watch your back if you set to inherit Millions. You never know who is really your friend, family or foe, 🤔😳.

Finished reading/listening 🎧 to the Inheritanceof Amaya Montgomery by @author_geletta_123 Shavers yesterday and it was a ride. I was feeling all the emotions ( frustration, anger, anxiety, hope , etc.) . I’m wondering why do people put up with so much foolishness. However, I will say this karma is a M.F. ; she comes when you least expect it. What are you willing to do to survive? And who can you truly trust!

This was a good read. Amaya defionitely could have done
wayy better and not have been so trustworthy and gullible,
but I guess thats that Whole hindsight is 20/20
The ending makes me believe that there will be a 2nd

When you can trust the people closest to you. Secrets, lies, and people out to use you poor Amaya had all that to deal with including messed up parents. There were time I wanted to shake Amaya and tell her to open her eyes .I loved this book and having J.R. Mason on the audio was icing on the cake.

I devoured this book. Amara and the maid were such lovable characters, her mom was something else and that no good, trifling, dirty dog of a husband got everything he deserved!! The gaslighting he did infuriated me like my ex. I love how he was written though, it was definitely very easy to hate him. The story wrapped up nicely for Amara and I loved it bc I’m a sucker for good endings.
