They thought they'd found their dream home. They were dead wrong.
When Ronnie and Harriet move into an old fixer-upper tucked away in a quiet village, they expect a fresh start. A chance to forget a recent tragedy. What they get instead is a nightmare.
Hidden beneath the floorboards, behind the wallpaper, and in the shadows… something waits. The last owners tried to forget it. The neighbors won't talk about it. But it’s still there. And it’s not done.
Decades ago, the village drove a witch to her death. But they didn’t destroy everything. A single little piece of her remains – and it's more than enough.
What’s small, shriveled, and capable of pure evil?
You’re about to find out.
Crone Finger is a chilling, slow-burn descent into madness and revenge – a story of love, legacy, and the brutal cost of unfinished magic. For readers who like their horror creeping, cursed, and impossible to put down.
Amy Cross writes novels and short stories in a number of genres, mainly horror, paranormal and fantasy. Books include The Farm, Annie's Room, The Island, Eli's Town and Asylum.
This was probably the worst Amy Cross story I have ever read and, very unlike me, I gave up halfway through. One dimensional characters coupled with a threadbare plot left me wishing I had never bothered with it in the first place. The last few Amy Cross stories I had read were great and I am struggling to believe that this one was written by the same person. Very disappointing!
I would have loved this story. Everything about it was right up my alley. And Cross's writing has improved since the last time I read her work. Except one major thing: Head hopping. I hate it; it's literature blasphemy.
This was definitely not the book for me. Hated the story line. And also that part where Ronnie didn't save the baby but saved his wife instead where she resented him for it only to have a chance herself to do the same and doesn't save him but saves the baby? That part i hated the most about this book. Don't understand the high rating with this book sorry

Another entertaining work from Amy Cross. Although it isn't my favorite -- since I always enjoy her writing -- but I'd certainly say Crone Finger is creative in its plot and with its characters.
Two centuries ago, a woman is labeled a witch and brutally slain by a village elder. A young couple moves from London to the English countryside. Little did they know that the house they bought came with spiritual presence included -- probably at no extra expense.
They soon meet a friendly (yet somewhat eccentric) member of the local community who speaks of legends and folklore surrounding the town's history.
The emergent finger embodies the traces through which the power of witchcraft unfolds.
Three stars only because I think the story would have been equally enjoyable if it was 30% shorter. I probably would have reworked the ending too.
For Harriet Anderson, it started with a finger and with mounting horror, she watched as the shriveled finger took over her life, until the final crescendo changed everything.
Filled with the creeping horror that Amy Cross is known for, I read late into the night. Then the horrific story kept me awake until near dawn, when I fell into a deep, thankfully dreamless sleep.
Yes, I knew what I was going to read. I read it anyway. Much as the characters Ms. Cross writes about, I couldn't stop. (Not that I really wanted to.) Again, Ms. Cross shows her creepy chops in writing a book I could not put down.
This book isn't for everyone. Perhaps those who stay up late watching one horror movie after another, unable to stop because sleep is impossible. Or those who have read other Amy Cross books. Five stars.
Not my favorite. It was just ok. I've read Amy Cross before and I like her other books. This one....I didn't care for hubby and they were both kind of dim. I mean, a finger shows up, everywhere, and he keeps trying to bury it instead of thinking "Oh, shit! What the hell is the deal with this digit?" It was all just pretty stupid.
