A very interesting book. I really enjoyed how the author plays out the potential impact on society of AI. Like any new technology, there are potential positive scenarios and negative scenarios. The author did a nice job with the research and using the A thought-provoking exploration of the profound impacts artificial intelligence could have on our future. The narrative is captivating and unsettling, prompting readers to consider advanced technology's ethical and societal implications. Highly recommend.

Full disclosure: I won this book in a Goodreads/Amazon promotion but have received no other compensation for this review.

I wanted this to be as cool as the cover looks.
Unfortunately, this book offers little in the way of a compelling narrative or meaningful character interactions. Instead, it presents a series of relatively unremarkable predictions about how AI might integrate into our lives and culture. Each chapter stands alone, with no overarching theme emerging other than perhaps a vague encouragement to "Keep Calm and AI."

In fact, I strongly suspect that much of this book—the author's bio, the concept, the predictions, the illustrations, and possibly even a significant portion of the text—was generated using current consumer-level AI tools. I've seen YouTube tutorials demonstrating how to research, write, revise, and design an entire book in an hour using these programs, and I have a strong feeling that this book was produced in much the same way.

Unless you're looking for an example of how not to write a book, I suggest skipping this one. Given that much of it was likely created with AI, I don't feel too bad about being critical. I'm adding one star solely for the many (obviously AI-generated) illustrations of personified animals in glasses and neckties, such as the following example:

"’Change is the song of evolution, sung by those brave enough to dance to a new rhythm’ — Llama wearing glasses."

I mean, it's a llama wearing glasses!

If nothing else, *2034* serves as a good reminder of why masterful human curation is essential when working with generative arts. Or, as the book itself puts it, "What's been clear in this journey with AI is that there's a big difference between doing and feeling. Machines can do many things, but humans feel." Amen to that.

Reading Future Technology

The importance that day by day artificial intelligence is taking in the study, work, science, and medicine field is a fact, a reality. 2034 How Al Changed Humanity Forever is written with a futuristic vision that shows the reader the importance of AI. It is an easy to read and understand book that takes the reader through different aspects, both positive and negative, that AI can have.
I am struck by how it explores and treats the ethical side of AI in the world, especially the privacy of data; it is not unknown the consequences that this can bring if it is misused, nor is it denied that these (data) are available to many and all the traps that are made to obtain them.
Definitely, if we want to be prepared for the future, we must know and manage technology, but not the other way around, that is to say that technology manages us.

This is an interesting book that takes us into the future. The author has quite the imagination and obviously knows a lot about AI technology. I think of these techs we already have like the chatbots and the technology that helps in the healthcare systems. The life crafter is something that I would probably try to use, being able to use this technology would enable me to work on a job but at the same time find a meaningful hobby I can do with my life. It is funny if you think about it. This author is giving us ideas on what possible things we can possibly invent to innovate for our future. This book is showing us the good things AI can do for us as long as we don't let it control our lives.

Awesome book!

"In a world where the improbable becomes the everyday, the future is only limited by the bounds of our imagination." Wow, what a great way to start the book. It certainly gets the reader hooked on it immediately. Understanding not only that the world is advancing by leaps and bounds but understanding the ways in which it is doing so is increasingly important. That is why this book is increasingly relevant. Artificial intelligence not only came to change everything but to stay and continue to change everything in its path, which is why it is so important to learn about this topic.

Fascinating

I found it thought-provoking and a bit unsettling at the same time. It really made me consider the impact of AI on our lives in a new way. The predictions and ideas are bold and sometimes surprising. It’s clear the author wants to challenge the reader to think beyond what we know.
Some parts felt almost too speculative, but I guess that’s part of the appeal. It’s like a blend of reality and fiction, pushing you to question your beliefs.

Edit: Having read to pg 101 and reading about how AI might challenge our thinking and teach that the US Civil war was about “State rights’ and economic inequities”, this book is officially going in the trash bin. Whatever possible intention this paragraph could be construed into, it has absolutely no business using false narratives about slavery as an example. Wish I could give zero stars.

Original review:
Not sure if I’ll finish this book. I’m about half of the way through it, and so far am not overly impressed. At least it’s a quick read.

Firstly, many of the 5 star reviews on Goodreads for this book are clearly falsification (copy pasted and/or AI generated). I don’t believe this book is truly a 1/5 (I’d give it a 2-2.5), but simply to counter balance all of the false reviews I will a 1/5.

In hindsight, I regret buying and reading a paper book about AI. It is objectively a pretty ridiculous way to learn about the subject. You’re much better off doing your AI research online, learn using an LLM you can download for free at home (with an adequate PC), and/or pay $20 to use a top-end consumer AI model for a month. All of these are very likely a better use of your time on this subject.

Another note: An AI investor wrote the book, and it reads like it. Obviously it has significant bias and this should be taken into account if you choose to read it.

The book does what it sets out to do, which is to creatively imagine our how our next decade changes with the integration of AI into our daily lives. This book will not have a lengthy use-case as years go by, but it’s still interesting to read today.

The author’s politics (writing about authors being cancelled for causing offense) was an odd thing to include as a leading topic in Ch 1. I understand the point he wanted to make about how AI can review/fix writing that could cause offense, but why is this such an early
topic? I feel there are so many more important and better examples the author could’ve chose from without needlessly stroking personal politics.

The art in the book is almost certainly consumer AI created, and it’s quite possible that writing/editing also heavily used AI given the contents of the book. I cant say for sure of course, but just theory. This isn’t surprising given the topic of the book, but I did hope
for deeper thought and effort rather than a collection of short stories.

At least the proceeds of the book gets donated to an educational charity, although at this point I probably shouldn’t dive too deeply into what the charity actually does. Better to not know, I’ve already bought it anyways… 😬

⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ | An Ambitious Exploration of AI’s Impact, with Some Stumbles Along the Way

Kunal Gupta’s 2034: How AI Changed Humanity Forever presents a bold vision of the future, where artificial intelligence profoundly alters the course of human history. The book tackles a fascinating subject, blending speculative fiction with thoughtful analysis, but it doesn’t fully live up to its ambitious premise.

Gupta’s strength lies in his ability to imagine the far-reaching implications of AI on society. The scenarios he paints are both intriguing and thought-provoking, offering readers a glimpse into a world where technology reshapes everything from our daily lives to global power dynamics. His exploration of ethical dilemmas, societal shifts, and the potential for AI to both enhance and disrupt humanity is engaging and raises important questions about our future.

However, the book’s narrative can feel disjointed at times. The pacing varies significantly, with some sections moving too quickly, glossing over complex ideas, while others linger on details that could have been more succinct. This unevenness makes it difficult to maintain a steady engagement with the story.

Character development is another area where the book falls short. While the ideas are compelling, the characters who populate Gupta’s world sometimes feel like vehicles for these concepts rather than fully realized individuals. This lack of depth in the characters can make it challenging for readers to emotionally invest in their journeys.

Despite these issues, 2034 is still a worthwhile read for those interested in the future of AI and its potential impact on humanity. Gupta’s vision is ambitious and his insights are valuable, even if the execution doesn’t always hit the mark. For readers who enjoy speculative fiction that grapples with big ideas, this book offers plenty to ponder, but it may leave some wishing for a more cohesive and character-driven narrative.

The Review

AI has become a central focus for many people worldwide, including in the writing world. While I am against using AI to write our books and articles or, the one thing that I’ve always said is that artificial intelligence is not some evil bogeyman to fear, but instead, a tool or partner in which to evolve day-to-day life. The dark aspects of AI rest not in the technology but in those who abuse it, and getting a book like this that explores the positive possibilities for this technology is great to see come to life.

The author touches upon one certainty in this speculative nonfiction book: the future will be closely connected to AI. Whether that future is brighter or darker is up to personal opinion, but AI is here to stay. The ability to find ways of utilizing the technology not as a replacement for mankind but instead as a companion to help through some of life’s biggest hurdles, from medical care to housing, is an uplifting message of hope the author manages to bring to life through their short yet powerful chapters.

The Verdict

Author Kunal Gupta’s “2034: How AI Changed Humanity” is a must-read speculative nonfiction book that takes a thought-provoking look into the future and the possibilities of AI. The book's focus on the impactful and insightful nature of AI and how it could affect society, the ethics of our world, and how people form relationships as a whole makes it engaging. It should open readers up to new ways of approaching this fast-moving technology.

The book's strength lies in its ability to make sophisticated technological discussions accessible without oversimplifying. The standalone chapter structure works surprisingly well, allowing readers to digest complex topics in manageable portions. While some may crave more narrative continuity, this approach makes the book perfect for busy readers who want to explore specific AI applications. The opening line brilliantly sets the tone for a book that's ultimately about human potential rather than just technological advancement. First off, as other reviews have stated, this is not non-fiction but is rather a speculative fiction story told from the viewpoint of the author.

To his credit Gupta certainly tried to be thorough in his coverage of how important facets of life on this planet will be affected by AI. The book is very readable, and every section of the book raised thought-provoking questions along with emotions—both positive and negative.

I found the overall tone of the book to be too “rosy glasses” for me. While Gupta does point out some of the downside impacts of AI on both individuals and society, I think they were limited. And in each case he states or implies from his position in 2034 that, simply, “we got through it.” The level of individual and societal pain in making those changes is definitely downplayed.

I appreciate the thought that Gupta put into this book, but from my standpoint in 2025 I am left with the uncomfortable feeling that AI technology is currently evolving at a rate that exceeds our human ability to fully understand, control and adapt to. As with splitting the atom, we’re progressing at the rate our desires and limited knowledge allow and not with the thoughtful and cautious restraint that will ultimately best serve us. Should we mismanage the development of AI as we have so many other technological advances, the outcome stands to be far, far worse.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

"2034: How AI Changed Humanity Forever" offers a compelling examination of artificial intelligence's double-edged sword, presenting both its transformative potential and sobering risks with remarkable clarity. The book shines when exploring AI's ethical quandaries, particularly around data privacy and human agency, grounding futuristic speculation in immediate concerns. The accessible writing successfully bridges complex tech concepts and mainstream readership, though deeper character-driven narratives could have strengthened its impact.

What makes this book valuable is its call for mindful engagement with emerging technologies. The "Life Crafter" concept and healthcare applications spark imaginative possibilities while the warnings about unchecked AI advancement serve as necessary counterpoints. "2034: How AI Changed Humanity Forever" offers a compelling yet mixed look at how artificial intelligence could reshape our world. The book excels in presenting bold, speculative scenarios—both positive and negative—that challenge readers to consider AI’s ethical and societal impacts. Gupta’s research is evident, and his vision of a tech-driven future is both fascinating and unsettling. However, the narrative sometimes feels disjointed, with uneven pacing and underdeveloped characters that make it hard to stay fully engaged. Despite these flaws, the book succeeds in sparking important conversations about humanity’s relationship with AI.

While "2034" doesn’t always deliver a seamless reading experience, its strengths lie in its ambitious ideas. The ethical dilemmas and futuristic predictions are thought-provoking, even if some sections feel rushed or overly speculative. The lack of deeper character interactions and a cohesive storyline may disappoint readers looking for a more polished narrative. That said, if you’re interested in AI’s potential societal shifts—and can overlook some structural weaknesses—this book provides plenty to reflect on. It’s not perfect, but it’s a worthwhile read for those curious about where technology might take us.
