‘The world turned me into who I am’ – a sizzling sci-fi adventure!
New Jersey author Joe Canzano is both a writer and musician, having recorded five CDs with four different bands and both playing guitar and singing in the band Happy Joe, and has published short stories in literary journals. His novels to date – MANGO GIRL, GROUND AND POUND, SEX HELL, SUZY SPITFIRE KILLS EVERYBODY, SUZY SPITFIRE AND THE SNAKE EYES OF VENUS and his Young Adult series RUNE AND FLASH, of which ESCAPE is Book 2.
One of the many reasons Joe Canzano is recognized as a pro in the realm of science fiction is his unique choice of names for his characters, names that reflect the current fascination with social media and tech games. While reading Book 1 of this series first is definitely recommended, this volume captures attention even in the opening lines: ‘They had to keep moving. There was no better plan. They were plowing through the dense forest, stepping around broken logs and ducking under whip-like branches. Luckily, Markla was small and quick like a squirrel. She tossed back her tangled black hair and glanced at Rune. What was he thinking? Would he have regrets? Somewhere not too far away was the smoking carcass of the Dream Center and the battle they’d left behind, at least for now.’ So well written, this entry into the series informs about the content of Book 1.
Canzano continues to impress with his gift for creating tightly woven, immensely entertaining novels. ESCAPE is a must read for sci-fi fans!

The tension is increased in this gripping follow-up as Rune and Markla are pursued by vicious commandos and entangled in a web of revenge. The author skillfully balances gripping action scenes and in-depth examinations of loyalty and trust, crafting a story that grips readers and makes them feel invested in the characters' fates.
This installment excels at building on the distinct dream-based world created in the first book while pushing the boundaries. The relationship between Rune and Markla is compellingly complicated by the addition of a jealous lover subplot, which tests their bond as they navigate psychological and physical perils. Because of Canzano's fast-paced writing and rich imagination, this is a terrific sequel that will leave readers wanting more. Highly recommended.

I was so engrossed in the first book that I was eager to read the sequel. Fortunately, it completely met my expectations. The story picks up exactly where it left off, with Rune and Markla navigating a dangerous and unpredictable world.

Every surprising turn left me wanting more, and I couldn't put the book down. This sequel will not let you down if you enjoy science fiction with compelling characters and a steady pace. Having read the first book, I already know who the main characters are; I am so happy to see Rune develop and grow as a protagonist. Rune is the voice of reason for Marla, and the way he loves her is fascinating. The book's central themes are rebellion, loyalty, and finding oneself in chaos. You would see the author's creativity in his writing style as he vividly and cinematically tells the story of his characters in this book. Great story pacing and the dialogues are reflective, which makes it easy for the readers to immerse themselves in the story. It is pretty interesting how the author sees technology as a helping tool and also a way to hold us hostage to its powers, and I would agree with that.

Escape is the second delivery of the saga, written by Joe Canzano. The story follows the immediate events after Markla and Rune's escape, with the government right behind. Canzano keeps the intensity from page one, creating a thriller that absorbs from page one.
In comparison with "Inside the Dream Prison", I think the author created a more complex plot. While the first book excels in originality, I think Escape dives more into drama, with deeper characters and a familiar sensation. It is recommended to read the books in order, as a standalone I think it might be a little confusing.
Overall, a great book from a talented author.

After book one, I wanted to see how the story would follow. This one hits hard, I really enjoyed following Rune and Markla’s journey, it felt really organic to the narrative and all the happenings around. It was really interesting to read and follow the characters in this idea of finding strength in someone else when everything seems really hopeless.
The story follows these two characters and from time to time, I think readers will find themselves cheering for them. It has a lot of twists and turns.
Although it is a very action-packed fiction, it has a lot of moments to reflect on, very deep ones. I really liked that.

A good sci-fi story!
This second book is as good as the first or even better, and that is not an easy task to achieve. I think it is extremely necessary to read the first book before this one to enjoy every detail of the story because it begins where the previous one ends. Rune and Markla have a new challenge to face as they fight for their own lives.
Escape is a fast-paced, action-packed sci-fi novel. I liked it because the characters are always moving and the plot kept me on the edge of my seat. The author did a great job with the description of the plot and the construction of the characters. I recommend it for those who are looking for a very good dystopian story.

Escape by Joe Canzano is the second book I’ve read by this author and book 2 of the Rune and Flash series. Like the first book, this story delivers faced-paced, nail-biting action. It’s a science fiction thriller about Rune and Markla and their desperate flight to escape pursuit in a world where nightmares can become real. As their lives threaten to split them apart and pit them against each other, they must decide what is most important to them. I found this book to be as absorbing as the first one and it is definitely a fast-paced read. The characterisation suffers at times in favor of the action, but it is still an entertaining sci-fi adventure.

Escape: Rune and Flash was a wild ride from start to finish! I really enjoyed how the story picks up right where the first book left off, throwing Rune and Markla straight into danger again. It felt like jumping back into a fast-paced movie.
The mix of sci-fi elements with emotional moments kept me hooked from beginning to end. I loved this book and the previous one! Recommended!
