"I thought you were different, but you're just like every woman of your ilk." "And what ilk is that?" "Gold diggers."
Thalia will do anything to save her mother. But when the price is seducing Carey Hawthorne, she balks. She's not a seductress, far from it. And besides, he hates her. He made that clear when they were growing up. But when he shows an interest in her at a party, she reconsiders. Carey wants her as much as she wants him. The desire is palpable. She will have him, but only for one night. As long as the person who sent her to seduce him doesn't find out.
Publisher's Wife Unwanted is Carey & Thalia's story. It is a hate-to-love marriage of convenience billionaire romance that is part of a series, but can be read as a standalone. It has a guaranteed happy-ever-after.
Carey and Thalia knew each other growing up and each liked the other but being teens, didn't know what to do about it. Thalia and her family worked for Carey's family. Currently, Thalia runs into Carey at his party to welcome him as partner. This was orchestrated by Carey's father. The deal was for her to seduce him and get him to marry her and all her mother's medical bills would be paid. Carey finds out about a new part of the deal right before the wedding and his true feelings for Thalia turn cold. He doesn't know the truth of it all and doesn't care to listen. But he finds himself fighting his feelings for her every time they get close--for years. Until she decides she's had enough.
This was long and drawn out with basically no groveling, just blah. I liked the premise of the story but felt that he needed to grovel for the way he treated her for the 5 years they had been married. He needed to grovel way better than a few lines. There were plenty of paragraphs with dialog but I had trouble figuring out which character it was coming from and seemed like it was from two separate characters. This made it hard to follow the scenes. The whole timeline was not good for me either. Five whole years! This would have made way more sense, deal or not, for the timeline to be so much less. How does it or even would it take 5 years to figure out the truth to someone's story? This one wasn't for me.
Being forced/seduced into a relationship and then pushed into marriage doesn't bode well for a chance of a sustainable path forward. This is an amazing story that is in need of editing.
I tried, I tried to like it. It just became redundant. Way too much miscommunication and the FML was spineless to the point you stopped liking her. This could have been a great read but it was fumbled halfway through and unbearable as you went along.
I enjoyed this book but at the beginning I find Carey and Thalia’s behaviour hard to believe and their excuses for not confiding in each other are unconvincing; however, their mistrust of each other powered the story. I didn’t much care for either character at first and found them both too adolescent. Thalia is weak and spineless and Carey is too unfeeling and dismissive. Their relationship is based solely on sexual attraction, not love, for most of the book.
The main characters improve and the story becomes much more gripping a quarter of the way into the book, and improves the further into the story one proceeds.
The characters are fully rounded (some have been in previous PK books in this series). The book is well paced; however, it is in need of editing.
I enjoy how everything comes together to make a happy and convincing ending.
Interesting book, Im not sure its a romance though. I think Carey was infatuated with Thalia and she had a crush on him. She was manipulated into marriage by the father then fell in love. Carey heard and called her a gold digger married her anyways. They didn’t get along just existing for FIVE years! Then asks she for a divorce and he finds out why she did it. No groveling she is just ok with it! Then suddenly they are back together no divorce. I absolutely hated this storyline. Well written but she was a door mat seriously

I loved the story line but the typos, missing words and the use of the wrong word caused an issue. I would have to reread sections to try to figure what the author was trying to say. The errors are about 1% of the text. I would consider it still worth the read even with the errors.
He’s a lawyer but comes from money. He thinks she’s a gold digger, but doesn’t realize why she actually married him.
Known each other since childhood.
5 years in she asks for a divorce, but wants nothing. He’s surprised. He’s not sure how to respond. He agrees they should end marriage but finds himself not wanting to let her go.
