Geoff Cooper is an abused teen protecting his younger brother from their father's violent outbursts. When he needs a place to escape Dad's angry fists, he flees to the forest behind their house.

Little does he know those same woods are also the hunting grounds for the local werewolf pack.

After a chance encounter and a grisly accident, Geoff becomes obsessed with Diana, the enigmatic woman who saved him from a wolf's ravening teeth. He returns to the forest night after night, desperate to see her again.

The second time, he isn't so lucky. He becomes infected, a lycanthrope beholden to the full moon and to his wolf's basest urges.

As Geoff struggles to adapt to this new life, he's torn between loyalty to his pack and protectiveness toward his brother. How will these events shape him into the pack leader he'll eventually become?

About the author

M.D. Wiselln

M. D. Wiselln was born and raised in Ohio. He is not, so far as he knows, actually a werewolf, though he does go online and pretend to be one every now and then. He's been involved in chatroom-based roleplaying since the late 1990s and still spends plenty of late nights doing so. The Law of Teeth universe was inspired by the characters he's played and the stories they've woven across the years.

When not writing, roleplaying, or thinking about writing or roleplaying, he enjoys going to the movies and musical theater. He's a computer programmer by trade and works for a major U.S. bank at his day job.

He now lives in Kansas with his amazing wife (whom he actually met in one such chatroom) and several cats.

Scars: A Law of Teeth Story by M. D. Wiselln
Genre: Wolf Shifter
Triggers: Violence, Mild Gore, Mild Spice, Abuse
5/5

Growing up we were always told to not venture into the forest alone. That there were dark and scary things in the forest at night. What if it is the only safe place you know? Is everything that comes through the forest still so scary?

Wiselln does a phenomenal job of building character development through this prequel. The main character Geoff Cooper progresses throughout the book and the reader gets to tag along while he learns about adolescent life and his coming of age. This theme continues throughout the entire book and we get to meet the other characters that Wiselln has created. The reader is brought along to witness how one persons life experiences and interactions shape them into the person they will become.

Highly recommend this book. Will have to check out the rest of the series as well.

I absolutely enjoyed reading this book. The author does a phenomenal job building the characters. Geoff Cooper is the main character. In the book, we get to witness his coming of age and dealing with adolescence. We are able to see what it's like for him to experience the transition into a Lycan, the struggles he has, and how he is "trained" to control his urges and shifting. M. D. Wiselln does a fantastic job at bringing this story and world to life. It is a prequel and an absolute must-read!! I will be adding the other books "Sins of the Forefathers" and "Bloody Justice" on the top of my TBR list.

A great read. A great prequel. Geoff is an interesting character, so it is great to see how he became a werewolf.
It also delves into the pack and their roles which is helpful and also builds this author's world.
Diana may say his infection story was easy compared to others, but the emotional stress he is going through is still traumatic. From an abusive and controlling home to a controlling pack, that is hell.
The story flowed well, kept my interest and I look forward to learning more about Geoff as the series progresses.
I would recommend this series for werewolf lovers, and I would happily read more.

A brilliant progression of character development, depth and raw primal insight into adolescence, werewolf urges and the mastery of so much power. I wasn’t sure how it was going to end, since it’s a prequel but M D Wiselln sure knows how to keep you hooked!

This is M. D. Wiselln's third published book in the Law of Teeth universe (though it is first chronologically) and once again, he really brings Geoff Cooper to life! "Scars" is more than an origin story or an infection story...it's a coming-of-age story with universal themes that everyone can relate to, despite being about werewolves. And it really showcases his range of writing talent; the other books focus on world-building, action/suspense, and the storyline but "Scars" is an exploration of how life experiences shape the person you become. And just like his other books, the characters are the superstars of the book. Although it's a whole new cast (save for Geoff Cooper, of course), they have distinct traits and personalities so none of them ever feel like they've been "recycled" from other books.

Although "Scars" can be read on its own, I HIGHLY recommend reading "Sins of the Forefathers" and "Bloody Justice" first - you will NOT be disappointed!

A great backstory to Geoff- his hard upbringing, how he became a werewolf, and the issues in adjusting to being a lycan. Helps understand why Geoff is the way he is.
