4 Stars Chanticleer Book Reviews

T
hrough Quick and Quinn , Erica Mimran Sherlock’s young adult novel, follows two intertwined journeys of grief, healing, and questioning the status quo.

The titular characters Quick and Quinn both experienced family tragedies at a young age but deal with the aftermath in very different ways. After Quick’s family moves to a new town in an attempt to get away from so many memories of what they had lost, Quick and Quinn start attending the same school. Shortly thereafter, in their junior year, everything changes. While working together on a class assignment, Quick and Quinn find they share an interest in research. Their friendship slowly grows beyond their shared hobby and becomes the missing piece of each other’s healing journey.

With graduation creeping ever closer, Quick and Quinn have many tough decisions ahead of them. They struggle to mend the wounds still present within themselves and their families and fear their friendship might not last. Much as Quick and Quinn hope to stay in each other’s lives, the natural course of adulthood threatens to turn adolescent relationships into mere fond memories.

The characters of Quick and Quinn come alive through their shared but distinct experiences with grief and tragedy.Everyone deals with grief and trauma differently, with Quick retreating to the internet for his “digs” and Quinn drawing towards meditation and crystals. The supporting characters throughout Through Quick and Quinn are understated but support the narrative’s focus on the two protagonists.

Young readers will relate to Quick and Quinn’s feeling of not belonging as they start high school, as well as how one teacher can make all the difference. The emotional focus of the story is very effective. Quick and Quinn are well fleshed-out and their interactions are complex and meaningful as their internal journeys through grief and healing grow organically from their similar pasts. This demonstrates how important their relationship truly is.

Rarely do I leave reviews for books, but this one deserves it.

I try to stay away from 1st person writing. As someone who writes, it’s easy to see it as something that I wrote when I was 13 or 14. This book was gifted to me by the author, so of course I’m going to read it, no matter how it’s written.

I opened the book, and from the very first page I was hooked. The writing was so elegant and well done, that I was able to see myself as the characters. It flowed easily and naturally throughout the entire thing.
To say I was shocked is an understatement. This book made me fall in love with 1st person writing again, and after months of not being able to write anything, encouraged me to pick up my pen.

Now let’s talk about the characters. This book takes us through the high school years of quick and Quinn, both of who suffered through horrible tragedies when they were young, leaving both of their families in a state of emotional ruin. The story revolves around both of them learning how to deal with the trauma surrounding those events.

I struggled leaving a review for this, because words simply cannot describe the depth and complexity of both Quick and Quinn. Their dynamic and emotionality just work together so well. She is his sun, and he is her moon. They are like yin and yang. They just work. I loved how their friendship came before any romantic relationship and it wasn’t forced. It wasn’t just a romance book, this was a love story.

The growth of the two main characters through the book was phenomenal. It was masterfully written and I loved that they grew together, but they also learned to deal with things by themselves as well.

I loved everything about this book. It was moving, heartbreaking, healing and exhilarating at the same time. I won’t say anything about the ending on here because I don’t want to spoil anything, but it all comes together in a beautiful crescendo of hope, healing and love.

Thank you so much to the amazing Author for sending me a copy. This book is going to stay with me for the rest of my life.

“At the end of the day, it’s Quick and Quinn through thick and thin.”

Through Quick and Quinn by Erica Mimran Sherlock

Through Quick and Quinn is a beautiful coming-of-age story of friendship, blossoming romance, healing, and forgiveness and reconciliation.

The things Quick and Quinn suffer are awful and unspeakable. In fact, no one in Quick’s new school knows what he went through, the grief, anguish, and guilt that plagues him on a daily basis. And Quinn works on finding healing through a medium that is different from what I am used to. She finds healing in crystals, zen gardens, and meditation.
While I do respect those who use crystals, I don’t really believe in them.
I do believe that one can find peace and solace in spending time in God’s creations, which I thought was beautifully demonstrated throughout the book. I also loved how meditation was used. I do believe that being still and meditating can bring inner peace.
Another aspect I loved was that they both also found healing through creative outlets. I think finding a creative way to express oneself can be part of their healing journey. It has been for me.
I also love that Quick and Quinn find healing in their friendship, their mutual curiousity, and similar grief.

Their friendship really is my favorite part of the book. It’s beautiful, but also imperfect at times. I love that they are so supportive of each other. Erica does a phenomenal job at creating two different characters that are actually similar in many ways. The way their friendship just strengthens through time and hardship was the most lovely thing to read in a book. I also loved how Erica shows what a healthy relationship can look like—one of mutual understanding and empathy, forgiveness and apologies.

At first I wasn’t sure of the different format this book is written in, but once I started and the more I read it, I came to love getting both perspectives through texts, journaling, and letter writing. There is also forum writing and texts we see between other side characters.

I loved the themes of forgiveness and reconciliation and healing of broken families.
I nearly cried tears of joy when Quick and Quinn finally healed their relationships with their parents.

I really loved the career path that Quick chose. I thought it was amazing he decided to help society in that way.

I felt very satisfied in the ending, though I was worried for a bit that it wouldn’t have the ending I wanted. And I was so relieved when it did.

I definitely recommend this beauty story, especially if you are grieving or know someone who is grieving.

This was the simplest, most heartfelt, deeply emotional book ever! Quick and Quinn's story might not be out of the ordinary, but it's packed with fun times, deep moments and thought-provoking scenes. I loved seeing their friendship grow into a beautiful bond and then blossom into love.❤️ I totally wish I could meet these two, they're that lovable.😆 The "Seek and Speak" parts were also a highlight for me, I loved anticipating the next topic and getting to read about it! Overall I really enjoyed this book and I can’t wait to see what Erica does next!🥰

Note that Quinn uses meditation and other practices like crystals, smudging, and sound frequencies to cope with grief,(she also picks up yoga towards the end of the book) this is the reason it is not a five star read for me, and though I chose to not dwell on it, I fully understand if it impacts your decision of reading it.

You know... I wasn’t sure what to expect from the book’s format at first. The mix of journal entries, texts, and forum posts felt pretty different from what I usually read, and I was honestly a little worried it might be confusing. But I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly I adjusted. It actually made the story feel more personal and immersive.

Quick and Quinn are both coming of age while wrestling with personal struggles, each shaped by the weight of grief. Feeling unseen and misunderstood by the world around them, everything begins to change the moment they meet. It's in that unexpected connection that the journey toward healing truly begins. At its core, this is a story of two lonely souls who, in finding each other, discover the kind of friendship that feels like finding your missing half...one you'll want to read about just to experience it for yourself.

What really stuck with me in this story was the powerful connection between Quick and Quinn. Their shared grief, their sense of being misunderstood and isolated, and the way they slowly grew and healed together was raw, emotional, and deeply meaningful. Erica had me practically biting my nails toward the end, wondering how everything would come together, and I absolutely loved how it all wrapped up.

I also appreciated how the book explored different paths to healing. Some came through creativity, others through stillness and nature, and a lot through the difficult but necessary work of rebuilding broken family relationships. While I may not fully connect with some of the methods Quinn used, like crystals, I could still see how meditation and other practices played a part in her healing process. Her journey felt layered and real. Watching both characters confront the pain of unspoken words, misunderstandings, and long held guilt, especially Quick, was genuinely emotional. It was such a strong reminder of how grief can shape us if left unaddressed.

The school forum posts were a fun touch, and the texting and journal entries added depth and a sense of closeness. Watching Quick and Quinn’s growing love, admiration, and respect for each other was honestly the highlight of the story.

By the end, I felt satisfied, but I also wouldn’t have minded a few more chapters. I just didn’t want to leave these characters behind. You really do grieve with them, grow with them, and by the end, you feel a sense of healing, too.

I’d definitely recommend this book to anyone dealing with loss or anyone looking for a heartfelt story about friendship, growth, and second chances. It’s the perfect friends to more romance with so much depth and heart.

I rated this a 4.5 star read, rounded to a 5!

This is a just kisses romance, contains some language and tougher subjects like addiction, child abduction, child neglect, SIDS, and death, as well as use of crystals, yoga, and zen gardens for healing.

I received a complimentary copy. This review reflects my honest opinion.

As a former middle school teacher, this story of two teens dealing with grief and childhood trauma definitely hit home. Erica really brought both Quick and Quinn to life through their journal entries, and I found it so easy to cheer for them. Her writing just made me want to reach through the page and give them a hug! I loved watching their friendship grow into something more, a sweet romance based on connection and healing. There are some heavy topics in this book, and even though it's labeled as YA, I think it opens up some great discussion for both teens and adults. Erica has even created a curriculum for TQAQ that I hope will someday be used in schools!

Quick and Quinn will live in my head for a long time.

Two teens. Two trauma-filled pasts. Two closed-off people who desperately need a friend—and a way to heal. Through Quick and Quinn was an absolute delight to read. Their realness, honesty, and the friendship that blossomed throughout this story were so fulfilling.

They question the narrative. They search for the truth. They get uncomfortable—stepping outside their boundaries to feel, deal, and heal from the tragedies of their past.

This is a beautifully told story about the hard things—during one of the hardest seasons in a person's life. If you know a teen who’s struggling (or even if they’re not), get them this book. I have no doubt it will inspire them in some way.

I just finished reading Through Quick and Quinn by Erica Mimran Sherlock.
I “quickly” fell in love with Quick and Quinn! Their tragic pasts, life struggles, and moments of bravery, were so much deeper than I expected. There were moments that made me smile and moments that made me shed a tear.
Erica has a way of writing about life… how messy it is, how healing it can be, and how sometimes the right people find each other exactly when they need it most.
If you’re looking for a story that will make you “feel”, please pick this one up! Honestly? I didn’t want it to end! 💛

My favorite part of this book was how it challenges us to rethink our education system, giving students ways to be more proactive and curious in their learning journeys. I think everyone, not just enrolled students, can learn from Quick and Quinn by doing more than just the bare minimum simply by making the decision to be committed to learning. To anyone who reads it, I would advise applying the same tools of critical thinking and discernment to the book itself (which I think is part of the point anyway, to never take anything at face value). I’m so proud of my middle school teacher for writing this; it’s an honor to see her create her own legacy in real time!

This book is as refreshing as Quick & Quinn's waterfall!

This is not your typical leisure fiction. Through Quick and Quinn is a finely woven masterpiece of raw, adolescent healing, the ebb and flow of families, and so much insight it could put Yoda to shame. Quick and Quinn's relationship transcends societal norms and is the purest form of human connection. Combine that with the whirlwind of past trauma, passing time, and the pressures of high school and you have yourself a multi-faceted story that will leave you pondering for weeks to come. I finished this story feeling inspired, empowered, and most importantly---curious about the world and its many layers.

Thank you, Erica, for the privilege to experience the story of Quick and Quinn.

This was one of the best young adult books I’ve read in a long time. There is something for everyone here, not just teens! As a young mom, a lot of the plot and lessons also resonated with me. Some of the family problems in Quick & Quinn’s lives hit close to home, but the book left me hopeful.

I sped through this book because the characters were so compelling. Quick and Quinn’s voices were unique to their characters, yet they also sounded like real teens. As a librarian, teacher, and youth minister I could imagine having these characters in class or yourh group. Yet at the same time, due to childhood trauma, they both were wise beyond their years in some ways. Their budding friendship and romance was so sweet, and built on a history of deep conncetion, communication, search for truth, and healing from their own pasts. I also loved the side characters such as their parents and Mr. Erickson, the teacher we all wished we had!

I loved the hopefulness of this book, which promises that healing is possible, reconciliation is possible, and forming deep connections with others is possible. It’s a “quick” read but at the same time you come away feeling like you just went on a journey with two incredible souls.

Erica knocked this beautiful story out of the park. She created characters I truly cared for, thought provoking scenes, and a memorable dialogue. The story introduces topics desperately needed by this generation- encouraging free thinkers! The beautiful, slow burn love story between the characters was honestly icing on the cake! Through Quick and Quinn will stick with readers long after they read the last page.

A Story That Gripped My Heart and Refused to Let Go
.
Quick and Quinn is not just a love story—it’s a story about survival, vulnerability, and the slow, careful rebuilding of trust in the aftermath of trauma. Erica Sherlock delivers a narrative that’s as tender as it is unflinching, immersing you in two lives that feel heartbreakingly real.
.
Quick is a character I won’t forget. Hardened by a past filled with hurt, he’s used to hiding—behind silence, behind sharp comebacks, behind the safety of solitude. Watching him navigate his world, carefully avoiding closeness, was both painful and deeply moving. And then Quinn enters—gentle, patient, persistent. But she’s not here to fix Quick. She’s just there, and that’s what makes the story so powerful.
.
The pacing of their connection is exquisite—slow, believable, and emotionally rich. There’s no rush to romance here. Instead, Sherlock lets us witness the beauty in small moments: a shared glance, a conversation that almost goes too deep, the hesitation before choosing to stay. The tension isn’t built through melodrama—it’s built through earned trust and the terrifying courage it takes to be seen.
.
What truly sets this book apart is how it respects the journey of healing. Quick’s growth never feels forced. Quinn’s care never feels like saviorism. This is a story where love doesn’t solve everything, but it offers space for someone to feel safe enough to begin. And that… that’s what broke me open.
.
By the final chapters, I was in tears—not because the story was sad, but because it was so honest. I felt every wall Quick tried to keep up, every moment Quinn chose to lean in anyway. It’s a story that feels earned, not written. And that makes it unforgettable.
.
If you want a story that feels like truth—messy, quiet, brave, and beautiful—Quick and Quinn will stay with you long after the last page.
.

4.5⭐️ This book honestly took me by surprise in the best way. It’s raw and emotional, but also so thoughtful and real. I went in expecting it to be heavy and it is but it’s also filled with so much hope. Quick and Quinn both carry so much pain, but the way their stories unfold through journal entries makes it feel deeply personal, like you’re being trusted with something sacred.

Quinn’s self awareness and healing practices were so grounding, while Quick’s story just broke my heart in the beginning and slowly put it back together. You can feel how much both characters are trying just to survive, to make sense of everything, and eventually, to grow.

This book doesn’t shy away from the hard stuff. It sits in the mess of grief, guilt, trauma, and healing and it really makes you think. As a mom, it had me reflecting on the way we show up for our kids. And honestly, even as an adult, there were so many moments where I felt like this book was reminding me to sit with my own feelings too.

The author is the sweetest person and you can feel her heart in every word. I’m so grateful she sent me a physical copy I’ll be holding onto it for a long time.

If you’re someone who appreciates honest storytelling, emotional growth, and characters that feel real, you need to pick this up.

Some thoughts I had while reading;

💔 My heart is breaking for Quick
🌿 Quinn is basically my emotional support crystal girl
📝 Journal entries hit different
😔 Wow… this really doesn’t shy away from the hard stuff
🧘‍♀️ Okay, I need to start meditating like Quinn
👫 Their friendship feels so real and necessary
🧃 YA? Sure. But every parent should read this too
🪞 Am I crying and self-reflecting at the same time?
🫶 Feel. Deal. Heal. Repeat.
❤️‍🔥 This story says the quiet parts out loud and I’m grateful for it

This book didn’t just take me on a journey but was an entire experience in itself. While I am mostly a fantasy reader I have been trying to venture out of that and into different kinds of books, and this book was definitely different. This book pushes you to pay attention and to think about some things that are considered heavy topics.

We are told this story mainly through Deck (Quick) and Quinn’s different POVs, sometimes through text messages, sometimes through diary or journal entries, and sometimes as just little notes they leave.

Deck loves to digg, he loves learning new information and seeking the truth. Due to his family's tragedy of losing his brother through kidnapping, Deck suffers from nightmares, self-blame, and isolating himself from the majority of his peers. This stays true until a High School teacher attempts to start a club that is right up Decks alley.

Quinn’s brother died of SIDS, and while her family struggled at first they didn’t fully fall apart like Deck’s family did. They learned faster how to deal with their grief and how to celebrate together again.

“I will be understood by the right people at the right times throughout my journey. I trust in that, and it gives me comfort.”

While I normally devour and finish books in no time, this book took me on such an emotional journey that I took longer than normal to finish it. Not because it didn’t have me hooked but because of how hooked I was. This book tackles some heavy topics through the eyes of teenagers. Even though I haven’t suffered in the way that Deck or Quinn has, this entire book felt like a healing journey not just for our MC’s but also for me as a reader. I especially loved that we got to meet and get to know our MC’s well before they meet each other.

I absolutely LOVED this book!
It is such a beautiful story of loss, love, and overcoming life’s challenges.

I liked the way the author told to story between the letters and a P.O.V. of the characters. The characters were likeable and seemed mature for them only being in high school.

Quinn was a bit annoying at first with the healing and crystal stuff but the more I read the more I understood her. Everyone deals with death in their own way, I may not understand it but I can respect it. Quick and his family had such an unhealthy way of coping with the disappearance of his brother.

My favorite thing about this book is how they both helped each other in so many ways. The love they found though a mutual loss was told so beautifully.

The sad subject matters being turned in a wonderful story about love was such a good read!

**Side note** The author is one of the sweetest people I have had the pleasure of meeting! Thank you so much for letting me read this amazing book! I can not wait to try bacon wrapped dates!

I honestly am struggling to come up words that will fully explain my deep love for this book. This book will stay with me forever. The story, the characters, the writing - it's all so incredibly beautiful. Our MCs are some of the most incredible characters I've ever read about. The emotional maturity of Quinn is something I will forever strive for, and seeing Quick's journey encouraged and pushed me to work towards that emotional maturity. I truly feel as though this book was a window into the beautiful heart and soul of Erica and I feel incredibly lucky and fortunate to have been able to read this book. There is just so much depth into this book and I truly believe there's something in here for everyone. There are so many deep and difficult topics in here but they're written in such a respectful and thought provoking way. The relationships and family dynamics in this book, I think, is just so relatable. I laughed, I cried (more like bawled), I fell in love. I absolutely love this book and it's easily the best book I've ever read. This book will forever be cherished and hold a special place in my heart.

Beautiful story. Fantastically real characters. Thought-provoking and at times uncomfortable, if you’re someone who has dealt with loss, pain, trauma…but uncomfortable in a way that heals.

I’ve seen this book all over Instagram and knew I wanted to read it from the first couple of reviews I heard, and now I know exactly why it’s being talked about. This is one of those rare important books that you want to share with everyone you know. Lessons you want your kids to learn early. Ask questions. Be kind. Connect with each other. Think critically. Let your emotions work for you rather than against you. Enjoy the journey. There’s a lot of truth in these pages.

There’s so much more I could say about this book but it speaks for itself better than I ever could. Bottom line: I don’t care who you are, you need to read it!

I am not exaggerating when I say this book brought me to TEARS 😭
I have never loved an ending so much. I have never felt so deeply for the characters in a book the way Through Quick and Quinn brought me to feel. Empathy. Compassion. Grace. Forgiveness. Hope. Patience.
This masterpiece is the very essence of what grief can do to not just one singular person, but an entire family. And it pulled on my heart in ways that I didn’t even know were possible — even as someone who experiences similar grief. This is hard topic to write about, but Erica has gently encompassed and executed it perfectly. She has a gift and I cannot believe this is her debut novel.
It is a bright and beautiful reminder that hope is real. Healing is real. Connection in the heart of pain is real. Forgiveness is real. This is a must read for the summer. This is easily my favorite book of 2025. It felt like a warm hug filled with the deepest kind of comfort and compassion.

This is such a compelling young adult read. The budding romance that grows from friendship is so sweet and beautifully written. I love how Mimran Sherlock wove in trauma, real-life challenges, and emotional struggles while keeping the dialogue so authentic—it truly sounds like real teens talking.

The emotional depth in this story is something I haven’t read in a while, and I absolutely loved it. Watching the romance blossom through communication, respect, and love felt refreshing—something every teen should read. Too often YA romances rely on “insta-love,” but this book offers a realistic portrayal of falling in love through life’s ups and downs.

As a teacher, Sherlock perfectly captures the teenage voice without ever sounding preachy or like a guidance counselor. The result is a story that feels genuine, heartfelt, and deeply relatable.

This powerful and thought-provoking novel goes beyond just storytelling—it opens the door to meaningful conversations about important life topics. The author even created an amazing curriculum that breaks down into eight units, guiding readers through key themes such as coping with loss, recognizing healthy relationships, navigating difficult or controversial issues, and planning for the future. I highly recommend this book and its companion curriculum for parents and educators of middle school students and above—it’s an incredible resource for fostering understanding, empathy, and growth.

These characters stay with you long after the final page. The story is beautiful, emotional, and full of heart. Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of Through Quick and Quinn—you won’t regret it.

Through Quick and Quinn is a sweet, yet emotionally charged, coming of age story following two high school students, who found comfort in each others friendship while navigating life after tragic loss. It showcases the importance of finding someone who sees you, understands you and is there for you. Although the topics discussed are typically tough to talk about, Erica was able to beautifully convey the importance of the them and how it deeply affects the loved ones grieving their loss.
I found myself both smiling and tearing up while reading this amazing book.
“Feel.Deal.Heal.” Was the mantra throughout the book and it will be my life mantra now as well.

I recently finished Through Quick and Quinn. I absolutely love this book!
Recommend!! It's a true YA book and offers something for everyone!

Loss has a way of reshaping the world, making familiar places feel foreign and turning even the simplest joys into something fragile.

Grief settles in the corners of life, it's sometimes quiet, it's sometimes overwhelming. "Through Quick and Quinn" understands this and it doesn't just tell a story, it feels like a conversation with someone who truly knows what it means to carry pain and still find a way forward.

Quick and Quinn aren’t just characters.. they become companions on the journey through healing. Quick's constant search for understanding resonated with me in a way I didn’t expect, as did Quinn’s ability to embrace the unknown and trust in the power of something greater. Their friendship is raw and real, and a reminder that we don’t have to navigate pain alone.

This book doesn’t offer a quick fix or easy answers. It offers something much more precious- connection, hope, and a quiet reassurance that healing comes in many forms. It’s a story that lingers, that holds space for sorrow while gently nudging you toward the light.

For anyone who has lost someone, "Through Quick and Quinn" is not just a novel- it’s a hand reaching out, reminding us that we are never truly alone in our grief.

I am so thankful I was introduced to this book and feel it was perfect timing for me to read it.

I knew in advance that this was a story about two teenagers, but what I didn’t expect was the depth of emotions and intelligence of the main characters. Sometimes, as adults, I think we don’t appreciate the level of emotions that a young person may have. This story was a reminder that we never know what a person is going through, that we should all be kind and patient with each other. Great read for young adults and adults alike, though be prepared for some gut wrenching moments throughout the book. Your heart will break, but it will also double in size.

This book takes you through all the emotions. Quick and Quinn are teenagers going through hard times. Normal teenage emotions are bad enough before throwing in tragedy. I was on a roller coaster of heart ache, and I enjoyed every minute. I really felt for both characters. I’ve never quite experienced what they went through, but similar scenarios and their stories were quite personal. It was a hard read but worth every page. I won’t spoil what the tragedies were but I was not mentally prepared for one of them especially. Their healing journey was so good. Feel, deal, and heal.

Feel. Deal. Heal.

This book is so powerful! No words can properly describe this book. This book changed me. Two people with unspeakable tragedies intertwine and learn to how to feel, deal, and heal. Together, they slowly unravel who they are and allowing themselves to properly feel overtime with each other by sharing and opening up about it. Together they learn how to deal with it and that it’s okay to be happy again.
Together they heal with trust, laughter, and friendship. Together they have healed themselves, healed their families, and have an everlasting friendship.

Through Quick and Quinn by Erica Sherlock is a heartfelt, beautifully written debut. Quick and Quinn are lovable, complex characters you’ll root for from start to finish, surrounded by a cast that feels real and relatable. Each character faces hardship in their own way, some with strength, others with endurance. The ending is perfectly satisfying. Erica ties it all up with a ribbon. A touching and fulfilling read that lingers long after the final page.

It's A Journey!

🌷This book will make you feel everything. Quick and Quinn's separate stories are full of emotional turmoil and growth and when they finally meet it takes on a whole new journey of friendship and love.

🌷I absolutely adored how their grief was portrayed as well as the effect it had on their families. This was truly a full journey of healing and finding yourself in the midst of the pain.

🌷Please be aware that it does deal with heavy topics not only of grief but the heartbreaking situations that caused it. There is also heavy use of crystals, meditation, and new age topics.

I was instantly drawn into this book. The book is written in mainly journal entries between two teenagers who have both experienced trauma in their childhood. This book discusses hard topics that focus on working on ourself. Feeling the hard feelings. Dealing with the feelings, and then healing. Feel. Deal. Heal. Which is something we all could apply to our own lives.

Quinn is a very self aware teenager who is authentic to her true self. Quinn becomes best friends with a healing Quick. I absolutely loved Quick’s story and the journey he went on in this book ❤️

This is labeled a YA book, but I think parents and teens can both enjoy this book! As parents, we can think about what we are teaching our children and how we are encouraging them. And as teens, they can be encouraged to be themselves and not get caught up in the drama high school can bring.

This book was five stars for me, because I love a book that makes me feel all the feelings. I cannot wait to see what Erica writes next!

Special thanks to the lovely author Erica for gifting me this book. You are one of the kindest people in the world and you are a light in the long dark of this world. Now, onto the review:

The motto, so to speak of this book is what the story revolves around. Feel. Deal. Heal. We have our two tortured souls, Quick and Quinn, both having dealt with unimaginable tragedies. Quinn is able to complete the trifecta but Quick, well, he struggles to start. I relate. This book is unique in that the trials and tribulations are never the result of some antagonistic force, save the occasional petty character. The opposition exists within the characters themselves. Their reactions and responses to events is the barrier they need to bypass or overcome. I can’t quite put into words how this made me feel. It broke my heart, it challenged me, and most importantly, made me think. I think as a society, we have forgotten to think at all, much less for ourselves. We let petty tyrannical wannabes think for us, or oligarchs, or church leaders who ignore the tenets of their own faith to preach hate. Do some thinking of your own. Before I mount the soap box again, I’ll conclude here. This book had it all: sorrow and despair, balanced out by healthy optimism and the power of love. Not only that, it makes you think even if you’d rather not. And that’s important in the world we live in today. I only hope that more people can learn to feel, deal, and heal.
