The Sorcerer’s Apprentice: (Book 2, Merlin Chronicles) is a terrific fantasy by Daniel Diehl. Her Evilness, Morgana le Fey, believes Merlin and archaeologist Jason Carpenter perished in her trap, but they are using an ointment to stay invisible from her scrying mirror. They watch Morgana and her minions go to her secret lair, the Hellfire caves. The caves have a hidden gate Morgana intends to open, unleashing the demon dragons she made a deal with to destroy humankind. Merlin and Beverley, Jason’s girlfriend, return to the caves to locate the gate, but they become entangled in Morgana’s deadly vines. Meanwhile, Jason travels to Ethiopia to visit the Coptic Church where valuable artefacts needed for their mission are stored in the Ark of the Covenant, which is forbidden to the public. Unfortunately, his luggage containing the invisible ointment is lost and furious Morgana spots him in her mirror.

Readers who have not yet read the first book in the series will get the chance to catch up because Daniel Diehl includes a well-informed prologue in The Sorcerer’s Apprentice: (Book 2, Merlin Chronicles.) The story is a fascinating one. I liked the trip Jason took to Ethiopia and think the information about the Hellfire caves and the drama that takes place there is very good. Morgana never ceases to astound me with her heartless, selfish personality, which the author obviously spent time developing to devious perfection. Witty Merlin cannot resist performing cool, questionable tricks while he adjusts to modern times. The conclusion was unexpected but quite impressive.

Jason and Merlin are back and boy are they in for a whirlwind adventure...........again!

Just when we think these two unlikely friends have faced the worst things you could imagine, Morgana LaFay rears her ugly head yet again! Except she has revenge on her mind and will stop at nothing to achieve it.

Merlin is one touch old cookie and in this instalment the poor man is put through the wringer. Saying that, Jason has his fair share if trouble in this book too. I like the fact that Beverley has a bigger part to play, she finally gets to see a bit of action, although she probably regrets it at points.

The story keeps you on your toes throughout the whole story. From Jason and Beverley searching what felt like the whole of Central Africa looking for a legendary gem that could be the answers to theirs, if not the worlds, prayers. To Merlin having the bravery of a lion to face Morgana and her minions alone, but we know Merlin can look after himself and kick ass!

There's twists and turns galore and just when you think you know where the story is going, Daniel, throws a spanner into the story and turns you 360! You're pulled from pillar to post but it keeps you turning those pages, even when you tell yourself it's the last page :)

I'm hoping there's more to come from Merlin, Jason and Beverley.......... You know I will be asking very soon Daniel!

This is the second book in the Merlin Chronicles series and I have to wait till spring of 2015 to read the 3rd. The story continues in this book with a lot more focus on Jason Carpenter, the archeology student who met "the" Merlin of once thought to be mythology in book one. Merlin, Jason and Beverly go on yet another action filled adventure on their continuing quest to stop Morgana Le Fey from succeeding in her designs to destroy mankind and be the ruler of what is left after the Dragons of old are given passage back to Earth. I won't go into any further details that might spoil the story but once again a very well written story mixing historical fact and real places with fantasy and other mythological artifacts to create a story that captivates. Another story I found it hard to put down. Needed to know what happened next. Once again I will be waiting for the 3rd book and reading that as soon as it is out.

Merlin and Jason are back but this time Beverley gets to come along too, although at times I bet she wishes she hadn't!

As usual, Daniel, likes to throw you off the plot..... but in a good way! Just when you think you know where the story is going he spins it and has you guessing all over again.

And Morgana rears her ugly little head with her "I want to rule the world" ideas (I still want to slap her)

The story, like the last, is fast paced, gripping and at times had you askng yourself how in the world are they going to get out of this?!

I hoping for a third book as i could see these 2 unlikely friends getting themselves into more sticky situations.

I received a free ecopy of this book for an honest review.

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice starts out right where Revelations ends. Merlin and Jason are returning to York to figure out how to stop Morgana le Fay once and for all.

I really liked Revelations so I was glad I had The Sorcerer’s Apprentice to start right away and it did not disappoint. It contains as much action, mystery, history, and humor as the first book.

The thing I don’t like about this book is that I have to wait to read the third one. Again, I think any fantasy lover will enjoy this book.

This is the third book I’ve read by Daniel Diehl. His writing is more detailed than I normally like but he presents the detail in such a way that it is very interesting. I’m looking forward to reading more of his books (especially book number 3 in this series).
