Torrent Witches #10

Böse Hexe (Die Torrent-Hexen von Harlot Bay 10)

Rate this book

Great ending to surprisingly good series!

When this series began, it seemed like an ordinary rather light weight cozy with some rather odd occurrences. These odd things turned out to be part of a rather ingenious and intricate backstory. The main positive it had going for it then was the Slip Witch concept. This remains the unique element in the series and its greatest strength since it underlies the foundation of the backstory as well as its solution.

The story began in a light cozy manner and it ends with a bang --a great story from beginning to end. I am hoping for a spin off series someday; Kira would make a great protagonist, and her family story has possibilities as well. (Otherwise I'm going to miss everybody too much!) What do you think Ms. Lake? Congratulations on a great tale and I hope it isn't really completely done!

Well written fast paced series with a terrific conclusion

All the previous books have been building to this final Torrent Witch book. There were lots of unexpected twist and turns but the end does not disappoint. When I began this series with book one, I never could have predicted book ten. I absolutely loved the imagination and creativity that Tess Lake has created with the Torrent witches series. For a cozy series these books are especially deep and thoughtful in how the moral of the story translates the real life. The series also had its lighter fun moments that make the books not so heavy. Basically the series is not depressing but holds a deep message. Start with book #1 and enjoy .

I purchased the 10 books in the Torrent Witches series by Tess Lake on Audible. I binge listened to them. This is one of the best witch series I've listened to. It's a cozy witch mystery series led by Harlow, a slip witch, meaning she absorbs powers unexpectedly. Each book has its own mystery to be solved while also having an overarching mystery that threads throughout the books and resolves at the end.

The characters have become friends, and I'm sad to let them go. This is the only series that Tess Lake has written. I sincerely hope she continues to write. If you enjoy cats, there is a super cute cat named Adams who brings a little laughter and saves the day more than once.

WHAT A WAY TO END A SERIES!!!!! I'm obsessed with the Torrent witches and I think the overarching plot over the 10 books was so well done. I was screaming going "YOU NEED TO GET IT TOGETHER!!" because I knew things she purposely didn't know. This last book was thrilling and had a complex and interesting ending I NEVER would have seen coming. I would definitely recommend this light, easy, and cozy series to my friends.

3.5 stars - a fairly solid finale to this 10-book series. Cozy and engaging. Reading them all back-to-back was quite the trip!

Fantastic Conclusion

When I began this series it was just a fun little series to while away my evenings, not dissimilar to a series I’d read recently. Then the characters grew and I became invested in the story. I kept reading now fully engaged. It grew into a wonderful story of love and loss with a fabulous ending. I thoroughly enjoyed the series and like all good stories I’m sad that it’s ended.

I have no idea what I’ll do with my life without the Torrent witches ☹️
I’m sad to see it end, but I’m glad everyone can have a better life. It made me so sad that Harlow wasn’t there for the weddings or the pregnancy’s. I lost it when she watched the videos of John and Aunt Cass dancing at Luces wedding.

In this installment of the Torrent witches Harlow is kind of confused, she falls asleep, wakes up in other places and has vague thoughts of something hidden, things in the past, people situations.
But life is going on as normal until the "end of the world" brigade move onto Truer island and some old witch's bones are discovered and this triggers off a whole series of events for the Torrents, they have to fight a witch from the past for their very survival and all their futures.
I'm so sad to see the end of the torrents, I've laughed and enjoyed every adventure and got quite emotional now I've finished the series.
The author did in fact hint at the end of the novel of a scrap of an idea for MAYBE another book.
I sure hope so as it would be lovely to read more.
Totally enjoyed the series and the whole journey.
Adams is just a hoot and cracks me up.

The series ends with a bang, and a big step-up in writing. Where the previous books displayed little patience in main plotlines, often introducing a new twist situation only briefly before resolving it immediately, Wicked Witch picked up on the meta-plots hiding as background elements in the previous books. Not only this, but we're introduced to a new mystery at the start of this book based on events at the end of book 9, which leaves readers wondering, "Hey, what about X?" for quite a while before letting us in on the secret.

Tess Lake has shown she's capable of pacing her plots, letting the anxiety simmer, and ultimately paying off some long-term planning. I do wish there was more of it throughout the series, but even so this is a nice reward for those who stuck with the series for the whole run.

Amazing

I have read every book in this series since discovering it. I absolutely love how it draws me in. The love for these characters was a joyful surprise and very relatable to ones own family. I cried when I read that this was the last one. Thank you for being a truly captivating story teller

Happy and sad.

Mixed emotions at the end of the Torrent Witch series. I'm so happy that everyone ended up with their loves, but also sad that loves and lifetimes were lost. I'm going to miss Harlow, Aunt Cass and the rest of the cast. Maybe a peek into their lives now and again in the form of a short story or two or ten??????? Wonderful writing.

I am so sad to see this series end. It had a bit of a rough start but the end wrapped it all into a neat package. The writing definitely gained skill and nuance as the series progressed. I’m amazed that she wrote all 10 of these books in 2 years! I hope she does a side series about some of the other characters, especially the Sterns!

I just finished the Torrent Witches ten-book box set, and I absolutely loved it! From the very first chapter, I was hooked, and by the end, I was completely invested in these characters and their world. Aunt Cass was a standout for me, and Addams the cat cracked me up every time he appeared. What makes this series shine is its brilliantly balanced mix of murder, mystery, magic, romance, humor, family bonds, and even a touch of historical significance. Unlike many cozy mystery series that read like separate stand-alone whodunnits, Tess Lake weaves each book seamlessly into the next. We’re not just solving mysteries—we’re following the ongoing story of a cursed family of witches as they face their pasts, battle literal monsters, survive spells and saboteurs, deal with slipping powers and overprotective moms, and navigate blossoming love. And of course, all of this builds toward an epic, satisfying showdown that delivers on every promise. I laughed, I gasped, and I never wanted it to end. The Torrent Witches series is a gem, and I’m so glad I took my friend’s recommendation to dive in. If you love cozy mysteries with heart, humor, and a touch of magic, this series is a must-read.

It’s not often you get to see a series come to a satisfying ending, but that’s exactly what Wicked Witch brings you for the Torrent witches. Harlow Torrent is still struggling with her slip witch problems. She keeps waking up miles away from the comfy bed she went to sleep in. All the characters woven through the stories in books 1-9 have all their And in a lovely twist of fate, the circle of life closed with a happy ending. Destiny Daychannel has come to Harlot Bay with her prophecies and hoards of followers. Her predictions seem to fall into place easily, though the Torrent witches keep feeling Destiny is simply a con artist. Rolling underneath all of this is a darkness that makes the witches believe a battle is imminent. I have thoroughly enjoyed this series and appreciate the tapestry woven through the ten books. I’ll be looking for more from Tess Lake.

I really enjoyed this series. The twists and turns of a small town community filled with intrigue. I loved the comedic dialogue between the character and Adams, oh, and of course his girlfriend!

I did find there was a lot of exposition in this last book - things that hadn’t necessarily been covered in previous books, but which finally explained the overarching mystery plot.

I think my absolute favourite part of the book was the authors note at the end. It was so lovely to hear how the story had come to be, and the scene that didn’t fit into the books left me wanting to read on!

I’ll kinda miss the Torrent family. Aunt Cass with her sass, the moms and their meddling, and of course Harlow, Molly and Luce and their fellows. It would be so cool for the author to publish shorts from time to time with updates of their lives!!

Thanks for an awesome read :)

Loved the series, hated the last book

The last book in the series seemed disjointed, weird, not as great as all the other books, as if it was written by someone else, yet I would definitely recommend this series. The characters become your friends and their lives as "shift" witches become a fascination you must keep reading about.

Overall, this series is 2/5 stars. I downloaded all ten books for one credit on audible and I’m so happy it’s done. Some aspects of the book were cute and funny but overall I feel like it was rushed and spaced out to make ten books. A lot of things that happened didn’t seem relevant at all and was pretty annoying. Also lol Luce and molly had such minimal roles.

Considering how easy going the rest of this series has been with only tiny hints or progress to the ongoing story around their powers, what happened to Gran, the relationship which Hattie Stern, John Smith looking for his identity, why men don’t seem to stick around etc. the whole plot is actually soooo complex and so clever. All the questions were answered!

Loved this final instalment of the Torrent Saga. That actually Harlow was behind all of it, unknowingly, working to break the curse. The usual shenanigans ensued - glamouring their appearance to go undercover in a hippy ‘end of the world’ festival, the Moms continuing to play match maker for Harlow, a beauty spell going super wrong at a dinner party and it wouldn’t be a torrent mystery without some breaking and entering 😅

I’m going to miss reading about the family crowbar, aunt Cass’s many ventures, Stephan the coffee machine and of course Adams constant “starvation” and attempts at bribery for cheese and tuna. I’m not a cat person and I def don’t have faves, but he’s def top of the list!

This series was a bit of a random “I’ll give this a go” type of read for me but I have to say, I’ve really, really enjoyed it.

They all got their “happily ever after” - exactly what I hoped would happen.

And I’m going to say it again, I think it would make an amazing tv series!

When I first started this quirky zany series, I didn't know what I was in for, but I quickly learned that it was a really good way to pass the time with the torrent family. The long, winding storyline throughout the whole series was really well done and kept me very intrigued. I loved the ending and the parts about the Two Jacks and the three boyfriends, I thought Addams was an endearing character considering he was a product of the owner's furry friend. I especially enjoyed the constant history is and the family pulling together to figure it out. I loved tagging along their journies of self-discovery, friendship, family and love. I wouldn't say I was disappointed in the series, and I'm happy to have an able to listen to all of them. I don't think I'll ever find a series with so much love and heart, I applaud the author.

Alrighty folks. I finished all 10 books and here's my synopsis of them all together as a series.

They were cozy to a point and the over -arching plot and storylines were interesting and I think the writing was pretty good.

That being said. . .the pretty constant fat phobia, body shaming and undertone of diet culture and "fat=bad" really took away a large chunk of the enjoyment for me . I have not read this authors other books but if I pick up another one of their books and it's rife with fat phobia, they will be going on my "do not read" list. . . . which. . Is really sad because I really enjoyed the world and writing style beyond the under-current of body shaming.

Also, I think it is worth pointing out that the body shaming was casual, it was background and fluff. Added nothing to the depth of the characters or the arc of the story.

After I finished listening to Lost Witch and it left off on a cliff hanger I had to finish the next book. Btw listened to this story on audible app.

Wowza! Such a story!!! It tied up all the loose ends and questions I had. Harlow and the gang had such character growth and I liked how the story progressed. It did feel like it was long at some parts but I felt that helped sorta set the tone. I’m sort of sad that it’s over. I really enjoyed this series.

The ending credits did kind of tease off a possible book but i don’t know if it’ll be. But I definitely enjoyed this book. It’s definitely bitter sweet because it’s the finale and I just wish it could keep going. Harlow and Jack, Aunt Cass and the gang. Just loved this book through and through.

"Me" Loved This Series!

First, let me say I loved this series. Love Harlow, Jack and the cousins, moms, boyfriends, Aunt Cass, Grandma, Kira and especially Adams, the talking black cat! I am again amazes thar any author can write 10 books and keep the interest up, maintain a cohesive story and fun going throughout. The 10th was my favorite but you need to read the others first. My pet peeve, though, is the modern but gramatically incorrect use of "me" instead of "i". "Me, Molly and Luce doing something..." Fingernails across a blackboard! Other than that showing up way too often, these books are a real treat!

Wow, wow, wow! I took the chance on the torrent witches cozy mystery series on audible, I’m not normally a cozy mystery reader, I also don’t normally read modern day stories but it was a fun and lighthearted read that all lead up to this, the big showdown all the mysteries being revealed. This series made me laugh and cry and honestly I’m actually feeling a book hangover from finishing it. I’m going to miss harlot bay and all the wonderful characters who live there. It feels like I actually visited this fun mysterious little town. I have a feeling that I’m definitely going to be doing many rereads I don’t think I’ll ever be ready to say goodbye to this place.

The epic conclusion to the Torrent Witch series. And the best book in the series. Things are finally coming to a head and the unresolved threads spread over the previous novels as satisfyingly resolved.

So much for the book itself, but what of the series as a whole. Tess Lake wrote those 10 novels over a time span of 2 years. And I'm afraid it shows. While the overall story is satisfying, and an improvement is seen over time. the individual stories are very thin. If I hadn't bought the whole 10 books as audiobook for less than 5 Dollar. I would not have bothered picking up a single one of those books after the pretty poor Butter Witch.

I started this series out, feeling kind of "meh" about the first book. When that's the case, I usually won't pick up the next book in the series, but something told me to keep going. Sure enough, book 2 was better, and so on and so on, and I was hooked. Now I have reached the end, and I am a little sad, like saying goodbye to someone you've known awhile. At the same time, I'm pleased that the author did not choose to drag a series out far more than it needed to go, and gave this one proper closure.

I hope that we will be seeing a new cast of characters in a new series in the near future.
