Thunder Road

Rate this book
Simon and Vic are home from their honeymoon, just in time for a brand new case!

Mysterious missing person reports, a cursed motorcycle club, and an ancient entity add up to trouble. A bad bargain to stop a long-ago gang war requires a yearly sacrifice from a tightly-knit group of riders, and even their coven of witches hasn’t been able to stop the deaths.

Then the granddaughter of a former lighthouse keeper comes to Simon for help. When the lighthouses were automated, they lost their live-in guardians, who worked protective spells to shield the coast from killer storms and a murderous creature. Those protections are fading, and an old evil has gained power, growing stronger with every life it claims.

Can Simon and Vic end the deaths and disappearances, or have they finally found a foe too powerful to stop?

Thunder Road is an action-packed MM paranormal romance chock full of old magic, protective guardians, found family, an ancient monster, brave motorcyclists, helpful ghosts, loyal friends, psychic visions, hurt/comfort, supernatural suspense, and an evolving, established romantic relationship with all the feels.

I'm such a fan of this series, it manages to perfectly mix the paranormal elements into the narrative in ways that feel completely believable.

This is the first case that they've had since the wedding and their relationship is as solid as ever and this book is suitability steamy without overwhelming the rest of the story.

Here the plot draws from the old Norse and wider European mythology of trolls, those creatures who tend to dwell in dark places, but also pulls in a unique angle focusing on the magic of lighthouses.

The danger feels present as both Simon and Vic deal with different reports of missing people and call in help from their usual gang of magical helpers.

As always with this series, there's an increasing level of tension the closer to the end we get, and both men have some close shaves when the troll realises they're closing in.

I enjoyed every bit of this book and I'm hoping that we'll be back in Myrtle Beach pretty soon.

Simon and Vic are home from their honeymoon, just in time for a brand-new case! Mysterious missing person reports, a cursed motorcycle club, and an ancient entity add up to what could spell serious trouble.

Simon & Vic are married now but that certainly doesn't mean their paranormal adventures have come to an end. Throughout this thus far, 7-book series, we have seen the bonds form and strengthen for the Myrtle Beach police detective, Vic and the physic book-store owner, Simon. Their relationship has grown to be a strong defense against supernatural issues...and this time it's no different.

They have returned from their honeymoon in time for the Halloween season, and with that, they face another adversary; one that tests them and their paranormal friends, almost to their very limits. A troll is feeding on the residents in order to remain on this side of the physic plane and continue to carry out the ritual that keeps it alive. This was something that was put in place years ago between the creature and the area motorcycle club. Every year a club member would be sacrificed...but new members and a different "feel" has made the current club members say "enough"...they want the ritual to stop and be sent back to wherever it came from. All of Simon's witchy friends and all others with any physic abilities, join to help Simon to strength the bonds on the area lighthouses...bonds that will keep the troll from ever coming beyond those boundaries and will also cancel its pact for the yearly sacrifice with the club.

It seems that with each story that Simon & Vic's, bond deepens. It's beautiful to see how accepting Vic and all of Vic's co-workers at the police department have become of Simon's abilities. It enables Simon to have their support and their help whenever the need arises. With each story Morgan Brice gives us more history of South Carolina along with suspense/some chills, and lots of steamy scenes throughout.

I own nearly all of Morgan Brice's books, not just the ones in this series, but this one is my favorite, and I will always come back to this series as long she keeps this wonderful series going, which I am hoping that I will one day buy book #100 in the Badlands series.

Lighthouse magic! Psychic and ghost tour guide Simon Kincaide, my literary boyfriend, and his partner, homicide detective Vic D’Amato, got married in the last Badlands novel (Point Blank), and the romance continues in Thunder Road. So does the magic and mystery. This time, the automation of lighthouses along the Carolina coast causes problems because the lighthouse keepers had been working magic to keep an ancient enemy at bay. Simon brings together his "found family" of priests, root workers, and other practitioners of magic, and his detective husband Vic forms an unlikely alliance with a local biker gang. Together they work to renew the lighthouse wards and protections and keep the ancient threat subdued. Highly recommended for anyone who loves urban fantasy and paranormal M/M romance!

A very good addition to an interesting series, with a new supernatural threat and utilising lighthouses (which do somehow fit extra well into a magical protection idea). I personally struggled a bit with the emphasis that being married is a different meaningful relationship, but then I'm aromantic, so maybe that is something others feel. The other characters were truly interesting, and I particularly liked how many people, dead as well as alive, worked together to counter the problem.

oh my, this book was the best one so far. first, i love the light house angle. i have always liked them and their mystique, and finding them to be the basis of this story was a pleasant surprise. as for Simon and Vic... i can't get enough f this couple and i am so glad this series isnt over becuase they are finally married. i can't get enough of them, lol. as a whole, this book read like it was a second season of a well loved show. for example, Ross is becoming a favorite character. and this is becuase now that Simon and Vic are established, the story can focus on other charaters and really get into the world. But the stories are still fresh, there is still so much to explore in this corner of the Morgan Brice universe. Really, this book just hit the spot.

Reviewed for Love Bytes – 4.5 Hearts.
Upon returning from their honeymoon, Vic D’Amato and Simon Kincaide find themselves embroiled in a reformed outlaw biker club mystery. Years ago, the bikers made a deal with a member of the paranormal, but something’s not right. Simon and Vic must determine whether the anomalies are the tip of the iceberg or something much bigger.
Thunder Road is book seven in the Badlands series, and while previous reading is of benefit, it is not essential. I have read many of Morgan Brice’s books, but Thunder Road is the first I’ve read of the Badlands – I will read more. Also, there were super overlaps with some characters that fans of any Brice Paranormal books will recognize. This is one of those stories where investigations get the reader's anticipation ramped up, and I was pleased to say that the finale didn’t disappoint. The phrase ‘Someone’s watching’ is in full force, and it’s not just the baddy. I love it when ghosts get involved, and an element of the clergy is badass. This story crept up on me, and by the end, I was hooked on all the characters.
The tale is told in the third person from the alternating viewpoints of Simon and Vic. Given that Vic is a homicide detective and Simon is a psychic who owns a ghost tour business that helps both living and dead as a sideline – worldbuilding is a compelling combination of cop and paranormal factfinding, with differing avenues of exploratory expertise. The situations presented, alongside the writing style, made this form of fiction believable. There was only one area where I got a bit confused: the timeline of the disappearance of James Hinton and how it related to his brother. Aside from that, I loved the inclusion of characters from other books, albeit in a background capacity.
Vic and Simon are delightful. The way Vic has embraced Simon’s world and supports him as much as possible is inspiring. Simon’s visions and other abilities take it out of him, and Vic is there to ensure Simon gets what he needs to recover.
As for the baddy, I won’t give you any info or spoil anything. However, he’s a being who intends to use his powers to stop Simon and his entourage from restricting him. Simon’s circle includes library personnel, ghosts, witches, nuns, and clergy. In comparison, Vic’s world involves cops, bikers, and individuals with firepower—the mix of investigation, events and paranormal elements made for an excellent sense of anticipation.

Thunder Road is another standout entry in Morgan’s thrilling series, bringing Simon, Vic, and their vibrant crew back for an unforgettable Halloween adventure. Fresh off their honeymoon, Simon and Vic face a new supernatural adversary that tests the limits of their strength and resolve. Fans will delight in the return of Father Anne, Gabrella, Miss Eppie, Ross, and Pete, whose dynamic interactions add depth and charm to the fast-paced narrative.

The relationships, especially the deepening bond between Simon and Vic, continue to be a standout aspect of the series. Each new book builds on the rich foundation laid by its predecessors, enhancing the dynamics and emotional resonance of the characters.

The story itself is fast-paced and gripping, beginning with an ominous reading that spirals into supernatural chaos. The detailed history and lore of South Carolina add an irresistible allure, immersing readers in a suspenseful narrative that culminates in an epic battle to contain a troll threatening Myrtle Beach. The combination of old allies and new faces makes for a compelling team effort to overcome the threat.

As always, the book is mysterious, a bit frightening, and brimming with intricate details that pull you in. The only downside is reaching the end and being left wanting more. This series just keeps getting better, and Thunder Road is a must-read for fans of supernatural thrillers with rich character development and history-driven storytelling. Highly recommended!

This story proves that it doesn’t have to be Halloween to enjoy a good spooky story set during that time of year. I am so glad that we are getting more books in the Badlands series. The previous book, Point Blank, featured Vic and Simon’s wedding and I wondered if we would get more stories in the series. I was so happy to learn that Vic and Simon would be returning in Thunder Road.

Vic and Simon are back from their honeymoon and are quickly faced with a new threat. I think I say this nearly every time I write a review for a Morgan Brice book: I love how you can read and enjoy this book even if you haven’t read the others in the series. Morgan always gives you the information you need to know about the characters so that you don’t feel lost. You might enjoy the book more if you’ve read at least book one but IMHO it isn’t necessary to enjoy this one. I have to say, though, that this really is a fantastic series and I highly recommend all of the books.

Thunder Road brings together many of the characters who have helped Vic and Simon in their previous adventures and it was great having them around to help solve this mystery. There were many nail-biting moments in this story and help from a few surprising sources. I hope we haven’t heard the last of Simon and Vic.

Ms. Bryce continues her winning streak with the Badlands Series. Her latest story shows us a mystic slice of life with newlyweds Vic and Simon. It would really help to have read the previous work since this is an established couple. They have come a long way from Vic being a skeptical cop concerning Simon’s paranormal skills.

Simon continues to run his business, the Grand Strand Ghost Tours, on the Myrtle Beach boardwalk. Vic is a local police officer, and they often join forces to battle creatures that go bump in the night.

Returning from their honeymoon, they are quickly made aware of odd disappearances. Members from a motorcycle gang and numerous homeless people have literally vanished without a trace.

An evil force had made a deal years ago, and it appears to be cheating. The monster feeds on these disappearances, and his power has grown. Simon reaches out to a supernatural network, and the two men race the clock, trying to contain this ancient force.

The novel moved quickly, and Ms. Brice has her usual flair in her descriptions of the unknown terrors that plague the innocent.

I heartily recommend this book, which is full of adrenaline and has a softer side of a couple deeply in love. Happy reading.

Morgan Brice delivers another thrilling installment in the Badlands series with Thunder Road, seamlessly blending MM romance and urban fantasy—a mix she masters like no other.

One of the most exciting aspects of this book is how Brice brings in characters from her other series, creating a richly interconnected world that longtime fans will love. It’s always a treat to see familiar faces pop up, and it adds extra depth to the supernatural universe she’s crafted.

In Thunder Road, Simon Kincaide and Vic D’Amato are just back from their honeymoon at the Castle, barely having time to settle in before being thrown into their next supernatural mystery. This time, they face a Troll terrorizing Myrtle Beach, and Brice’s signature attention to cultural lore and meticulous research makes the hunt for the creature feel real and immersive. The way Simon and Vic dig into legends, piecing together clues while balancing their relationship, keeps the tension high and the stakes even higher.

The romance remains just as compelling as the supernatural mystery. Simon and Vic’s bond continues to deepen, offering heartfelt moments amidst the danger. Their dynamic is protective and passionate, making them one of my favorite paranormal couples.

Brice once again proves why she’s my favorite author, expertly weaving together magic, mythology, and romance in a way that keeps me hooked from start to finish. Thunder Road is an absolute must-read for fans of MM urban fantasy, and I can’t wait to see what she conjures up next!

Vic and Simon are back in the seventh book of the Badlands Series. The two men have returned from their amazing honeymoon and are surprised that nothing has really changed. They are immediately thrown into a new mystery involving a cursed motorcycle club, lighthouses, missing persons, and an ancient entity. It seems the motorcycle club made deal fifty years ago to stop the fighting. That deal required one sacrifice every year. No method has been found that can break the curse. At the same time, a lighthouse keeper’s granddaughter comes to Simon for help in re-establishing the protective spells that shields the coast from an old entity as well as bad storms. Simon and Vic realize the two requests are connected, but to be successful, they will need a great deal more help.

These are amazing stories, filled with surprises and a few twists. Vic and Simon know this may be a tough one and enlist the aid of friends both near and far. Individuals from other books also appear and provide lots of help. This story builds and builds in intensity until the climactic ending. It captures you on page one and keeps you reading until the last page. I hope there will be many more.

**********Contains Spoilers**********

I rated this book 4.5 stars, so I rounded it up to 5 stars, This is the first book that I’ve read by Morgan Brice and I’m definitely going to be reading more. This is also the first book that I’ve read in the Badlands Series and I think I would’ve enjoyed this book even more so if I’d read the rest of the series first, as I would’ve felt more of a connection to the characters but that’s my issue, not any fault of the author or book.

There was enough information to understand this world and the characters. I really enjoyed this book. Simon and Vic make an amazing team, they love each other unconditionally, they’re very supportive of each other and aren’t afraid to ask for help when needed.I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the Badlands Series, as well as more books by Morgan Brice in the future. I’d recommend this book, series and author to others.

******I received a complimentary copy of this book through GRR. I would still happily review this book even if I purchased it myself. My thoughts and feelings about this book are completely unbiased******

Newlyweds Simon and Vic return to Myrtle Beach from their honeymoon and fall headfirst into biker gangs, mysterious disappearances, and of course another big bad who just happens to be a troll. Only Simon and Vic would see this as just another day in their supernatural journey together. Simon must use all his usual connections and a couple of new ones he was surprised about to solve this latest deadly mystery.

This series continues to provide new lore and challenges for Simon and Vic. I like that their love story hasn’t gotten stale and the spark that brought them together continues to burn hotter than ever. The supporting characters list lengthens with each new book and this influx keeps the stories flowing. The action doesn’t seem to get old and I applaud the author for being able to keep the story fresh from book to book.

It’s difficult to review a book and not to give away the storyline. I’ll just say I enjoyed the writing and the authors latest endeavor to keep me entertained.

Simon and Vic return from their honeymoon and straight into a new mystery.

Their relationship is still strong, being married hasn’t changed them (not even their names), not even for the better. They both decide to keep information from the other to protect them and stop them from worrying. Guys, it’s book 6, don’t you know by now that keeping secrets about woo woo stuff never goes well.

There are what appears to be two separate issues that vie for Simon’s attention but it is quickly discovered that the two cases are intertwined.

I liked that the big bad wasn’t a ghost this time and that the monster came from a different thread of folklore. The ghosts were an addition to Simon’s team, although I did wonder where his sea faring ghost relative had disappeared to. He would have been a great help.

I wondered if Vic and Simon’s marriage would have put an end to this series but I think it will continue as long as Morgan Brice has the ideas of monsters for the boys to come up against.

Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Sixth in series (Badlands), best if read in order. Paranormal. Established couple. Quick read. Dual POV.

Married, but certainly not boring, Simon and Vic return from their honeymoon and are instantly embroiled in another paranormal investigation. How does a decades long bargain with a motorcycle club tie in to the waning protection of several local lighthouses?

There is something about Simon and Vic that is so enjoyable to return to, they are unwavering in their love, still have plenty of steamy times, and are equally protective of each other in the face of the many dangers they face together. With the support of their friends they easily solve the mystery and address the risk while trying to save lives, just another day of secretly saving the world for these two. Another great addition to the Badlands series, I hope I never have to stop reading about Simon and Vic. 4.5 rounded up

Brice does it again in this latest installment of her "Badlands" series. This time, Simon and Vic face a new kind of foe, an ancient evil that has brokered a deal with a local biker gang for a yearly sacrifice of one of their members. However, Simon and Vic find signs that the entity is not abiding by the deal, made stronger by the lapse in protections along the coast from the lighthouses.

It's a fast-moving tale and brings along a lot of the recurring characters from the series, including some of my favorites like Mrs Eppie and Father Anne. And of course, the tale wouldn't be complete without the acerbic observations of Ross, Vic's faithful police partner.

Their foe is an intriguing one and a nice change from the usual diet of ghosts to be found in Myrtle Beach. It's nice to see Brice able to keep the series fresh, in this case with the couple having just returned from their honeymoon.

“Thunder Road” by Morgan Brice is part of the ‘Badlands’ series and features homicide detective Vic D’Amato and his husband, Simon, who are just back from their honeymoon, and immediately become embroiled in a case that requires Simon’s special abilities.

This adult gay paranormal romance continues the adventure of a charismatic couple who have definitely learned to let their respective abilities complement each other. I always enjoy cameos by other folks from the various series that this author writes, and I applaud Simon’s willingness to consult with others to keep from being in over his head. I love lighthouses and was intrigued by the concept of them acting as foci for a paranormal protection system even as I questioned how the effects of automation could be compensated for in terms of guardians. This author deftly blends fact and fiction, and this was another entertaining quick read in a fascinating series.

Just because Simon & Vic are married doesn't mean their adventures have ended, and I'm thankful for it! Throughout the series, we see the bonds form of the Myrtle Beach grow to be a strong defense against supernatural issues. This book is no different. Simon & Vic have returned from their honeymoon in time for spooky season, and with thst, they face another advesry that tests the whole crew to their limits.
Usually, I get bored with the same couple over a longer series, and yet with Simon & Vic, their bond just deepens with each adventure. It's a beautiful thing to see how accepting Vic and the MPD have become in Simon's abilities to make it possible to work harmoniously. With each story enjoying, Morgan gives us more history from South Carolina along with a suspense throughout. Will always keep coming back to this series, for however long it may last.

Poor Simon and Vic are never going to be free from ectoplasmic bad guys and various people who need their help. Morgan Brice really puts them through the wringer with this book seven of this series and the guys have hardly unpacked before strange things start to happen. One of the things that I enjoy about this series is Ms. Brice’s ability to make the unnatural seem realistic and a big part of this is how she has obviously looked into the supernatural in various cultures and in history and how she feeds that into her story. The solid characters of Vic and Simon anchor the whole story and there are lots of interesting characters, both good and bad, around them that add more depth to the book. This is definitely one of my favorite paranormal detective series.

If there is one thing that is not lacking in these stories, it is the situations that frighten even those who fight daily with evil, and here Simon and Vic must constantly look over their shoulders. I am struck by the way in which sometimes the descriptive narratives capture my attention and give me a little anxiety. I like research and how things are documented, giving meaning to the reading and leading me to think. Scary! Lots of suspense with the threat that has come to light and clearly proved to be more powerful than expected. I like how the author presents the characters of Vic and Simon, both capable, well committed to each other and surrounded by resources. Action, suspense, an ancient powerful evil creature, lore, many allies, mystery, magic, violence, romance and passion.

Exciting! Vic and Simon return from their honeymoon expecting a magical feeling of being 'married'. They just feel comfortably in love. Just to shake things up a little, they encounter and ancient evil that made a deal with a biker gang. If the gang sacrificed a person each year, the entity would keep the coast and the town safe. It's been at least 40 years and most folks didn't notice the pattern. Vic and Simon realized all is not as it should be and their world may be out of whack and going to go through some things. Morgan, gives us another fun mystery that keeps us glued to our kindles and absolutely invested. Nice cover art! Nicely done. I received an aRC and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Afun and creepy Halloween themed story

Not much of a break for Simon and Vic as they return from their honeymoon. First day Simon is back a leader of a biker gang comes in wanting to contact a creature the gang made a deal with. When the biker just vanishes in public view as his motorcycle crashes into a car Simon and Vic are drawn into a hunt for a killer creature that has been making people disappear for years. The book does a great job of combining local history, folklore, interesting secondary characters and suspense to make for an enthralling read. Simon and Vic are my favorite characters in this authors vast universe. (Although Erik and Ben from the Treasure Trail series are a really close second!) I look forward to what comes next.

Simon and Vic are back, and they’re investigating some mysterious disappearances affecting a local biker gang. The mystery deepens when it seems that very old magic is involved, which is causing dangerous repercussions for the wider community.

When a road trip confirms this is all tied into the breakdown of the ancient magical guardianship of the coast, they have to get inventive and call on both the local magical and biker communities to restore the balance.

With a mix of creative and interesting storylines, coupled with the author’s extensive magical knowledge, life for Simon and Vic is never dull! It also keeps things fresh and interesting for us readers and I can’t wait to find out what’s next for our psychic tour guide and his detective hubby!

Warning: Do not start reading this amazing book late at night unless you plan to read all night. You simply won’t be able to put it down…I was still reading when the sun came up! The storyline is absolutely amazing; the characters were so incredible—both main and secondary—I felt like I was in the presence of greatness; the plot twists and turns literally take your breath away; and the love shared by the characters truly makes this story come to life. You really need to add this book to your TBR list today…and grab a copy as quickly as possible! (I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and was totally mesmerized by it. Thunder Road is the 7th book in the Badlands series. I feel this series is best read in order as it follows an established couple. We are back with Simon and Vic for another adventure. I love supernatural stories and I love how well Morgan Brice does them. This was a great book with an interesting plot. I love how sweet Simon and Vic are together. I'm happy the series will continue even after the guys have married and returned from the honeymoon. I loved all the history and lore of South Carolina. This book pulls you in from the start and I couldn't put it down until I finished it. I can't wait for the next book in the series. I would definitely recommend this book and series.

Black Hayabusa, runes & sigils, get poofed, bishop’s crozier, goofer dust, eight-foot-tall dragon, Flying Spaghetti Monster (all phrases from "Thunder Road" by Morgan Brice)

Wow, what a thrilling book! It's been a long while since I read a mystery, supernatural MM romance book. It's an amazing, dynamic, and excellent book and storyline. The writing is spot-on without hubris. The imagery is stunning and vividly painted. I can't find any negative thing to mention.

We first see Simon and Vic returning home from their honeymoon. It isn't long before the intrigue begins. I was hooked and couldn't stop reading! I hope I convinced to read this.

I was a little worried that the previous book might be the last with the wedding of Simon and Vic, so I was excited to see that there was going to be another Badlands book. This series (and the others set in this world) have become favorites and they are often reread or relistened to.

“Thunder Road" is another great addition to the series and the world. The relationship between Simon and Vic is as solid as ever, the mystery and supernatural elements are exciting and add more information to the world. I hope that this series continues and I recommend reading it and all of the spin-off series as well.

I received a copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.

Engaging and fast-paced psychic detective adventure.  Simon and Vic face an unusual 'bad guy' who is a very old evil entity.  The story starts us on a compelling journey to uncover what is going on with the deal that a local biker gang made that requires a yearly sacrifice.

The story is well written and we get to see some of our favorite characters of this series.

This is book seven of the Badlands Psychic Detective series and i strongly recommend reading the previous books in the series to really appreciate this story and the characters.

I was gifted this book from Gay Romance Reviews and i freely give my honest opinion and review.

I skimmed much of this paranormal MM romance adventure. It's just more of the same for this series. This time the villain is a troll who eats people. He had been held at bay by the lighthouse keepers, but that ended when they were all automated. The good guys and women band together to fix things. Meanwhile, Simon and Vic have lots of graphic sex with each other. TMI.
Typos that I caught while skimming: Sentence fragment ("No! He cried out..."), missing comma or extra word ("They all looked stunned anguished..."), "hoards" used for "hordes" ("The hoards of candy-seekers..."). [Almost every time I see these two similar word in a book, the wrong one is used.]
