A rather underwhelming follow up...

While the first volume in this series was rather good, this volume was very underwhelming. There were frequent moments where I was straight up bored. The story was okay but riddled with cliche over used sappy moments. The more they shoved Prince Em's obsessive and jealous love in the reader's face the more and the more obvious it became that his obsession was an unhealthy love.

I think really rubs me the wrong way when I read about possessive unhealthy love. Much like the story of the Twilight vampires, this character has a very unhealthy attachment to the lead heroin. While sometimes it comes off as sweet and charming, other times it's just downright creepy and sadistic.

As you reach the end of the story and the events are coming to a fold, you find Ally the target of three different royal suitors competing for her affection. As you get to the final chapter it feels like the author is setting up for the next book. I felt myself dreading the idea of reading another volume and dealing with another school year of her being targeted by two additional unwanted suitors fighting with her fiance. You just get enough is enough... But no, the author just has a time skip over the entire school year over the course of the epilogue. Now I don't know if the author intends to have a volume three or not. As for me it doesn't really matter, I don't think I have any interest in reading anymore after this volume. Of course, there's always room for me forgetting I don't want to read more and accidentally buying additional volumes. I read so much that sometimes I just can't keep serious apart anymore in my mind and forget.

I guess you could sum it up that way. This is a very forgettable volume to a mediocre series. If you like the genre, it's an okay addition to your library. You're not missing out on anything, there's nothing to write home about, and you'll probably forget it within hours of reading it.

While I found the first volume to be relatively interesting, all things considered, I can't recommend this book for the life of me.

Is this truly a YA book? I'm not one to judge other people's fetishes, but was that whole furry obsession really necessary? It brought absolutely nothing to the plot, not that there was much plot to begin with, and it just made me cringe.

I agree with previous reviews I read, this volume was a waste of time as it didn't really develop the characters or offered anything new from the previous volume.

This is an interesting addition to the story though it is slightly difficult to follow with the frequently changing point of views, even as those changes in view add additional insights and color to the story as a whole. While there isn't necessarily a lot of progress as far as the character's relationships, we do get to see how the formal engagement process all goes and meet some new character's in Julie's homeland. Poor Em might lose his mind at this rate though between how enamored he is of Ally and all of these other obstacles coming out of the woodwork.

Somehow I can't get into the book even though I've read up to half of it. Kind of a let down because I really enjoyed the first book.

Maybe I'll try re-read it again in the future but who knows.
