Oh No! There's an Incubus in my Hot Spring

Rate this book
My boyfriend cheated on me, so I bought a possibly haunted hot spring in BFE, Colorado. Oops.

To make matters worse, the owner of my competition seems determined to crush my fledgling business at every turn. Oh, and the rumors are true…there’s an incubus demon trapped in my hot spring.

Just when I thought my life might get started, I find out my rival is blocking my contractor requests, making it impossible to get this dump running again. So, in a bid to save my business, I reluctantly negotiate with the demon: his infernal magic for my business's success. The catch? I have to let him get me hotter than the steaming waters to fuel his power and promise him freedom when my business has legs.

But what started as a purely pragmatic arrangement soon blurs into something dangerously sensual. I yearn for our charged encounters and ache for his touch. As our arrangement nears its end, and the deadline to free him looms, I face an impossible choice: protect my budding business or risk it all for the demon who has captured my heart.

Ember loves all things with heat! A glass of wine, a comfy, oversized sweater, and a spicy book next to a fireplace is her ideal night. She likes to read about powerful heroines and protective heroes, and write about them, too.

When she’s not writing, Ember is a fox in the henhouse, causing all kinds of hell. She enjoys making pasta while listening to big brass bands, taking long walks with her favorite audio books, playing D&D, and painting—but not very well.

Some of Ember’s favorite authors include Laura Thalassa, Shannon Mayer, and Raven Kennedy. Their powerful heroines inspire her daily to get out of bed and to do her best (or stay in it to keep reading!)

Need an escape from reality? Oh No! There’s an Incubus in My Hot Spring is the perfect escape. Holt delivers a cozy paranormal romantasy with small-town charm, hilarious moments, magic, found family, a rubber duck familiar and plenty of spice.

We meet Sylvia after she breaks up with her boyfriend. She impulsively bids on and wins a hot spring in BFE, Colorado. Rumored to be haunted, Sylvia is excited to begin afresh. Things become complicated quickly. The only competition in town wants to destroy her business before she even opens. The resort is in terrible shape and did I mention the incubus in her hot springs? Strap in for a hilarious, heart-warming, toe-curling tale with plenty of magic.

I enjoy reading Holt’s series and knew she’d bring unique, likeable characters I could connect with. She weaved in magic as Sylvia discovers her latent witchy abilities and we learn Apollo’s history. The romance was a mix of steamy, sweet and adorkable. I loved their interactions as they worked to renovate the resort and build trust.

Holt mixed in small-town drama, new friends and found family while adding tension when her ex shows up. You’ll also chuckle with a rubber duck! Oh No! There’s an Incubus in My Hot Spring, hit all the marks!

I laughed, swooned and completely lost myself in their story. I am looking forward to the next book! Grab a cup of coffee and curl up with this enchanted tale. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer

I REALLY want to be nice.....but....

the nice things I can say?
Apollo is fun if not a little flat. Sylvia is an abuser's dream come true.

but really....
The first 30%-ish was fun. the middle 30% was fine. the last 40% felt like a punishment for trying to finish the book. The twist? stupid and quickly brushed aside despite the repercussions. the ending was usher, hollow, and scraped that last of my good will away. the worst part is that it COULD have been a good story. it could have been about recovering from betrayal and family that belittles you. if they just extended the first 50% of the book and ended at the emotional reveal it would have been at least slightly meaningful. it's like this book started as one thing and ended as something entirely different. I am almost angry at myself for being emotionally bought in to some of Sylvia's challenges.

also!! if a RAV4, sleep token, or another SHITTY millennial joke ends up in my monster smut?? I'm calling in a bomb threat

edit: I forgot to mention the absolutely HEINOUS fanfiction writing style. (no shade to y'all who do write, some of the most beautiful stories I have read were fanfics.) but holy outfit descriptions batman!! I don't NEED to know about her snake leggings or sweaters. I don't NEED (or want) a 3+ page description about a workday or spa layout where nothing happens. why are we getting story filler posts in a NOVEL?? was it against the law to have a single editor look through this???

I am actually so angry at this book the more I think about it 😆

🎉HAPPY RELEASE DAY! 🎉

I'm so stoked to be sharing this cozy little smutty book with the world. It was a love letter to myself honestly. The main character, Sylvia, works so hard for everyone around her, her businesses, and forgets to take care of herself. Writing this was a little bit of therapy for me. "Slow down! Enjoy the ride! Take a hot bath! Eat a slice of cheesecake!" It was also a reminder to stop labeling myself in strange ways... as Sylvia does with her "Professional Hair." Curly or straight, she's a business woman, and a professional.

I hope this silly little story can bring you "giggles and awws," and maybe remind you to slow down if you're going too fast and working too hard. I know it can seem impossible to take a breather, but if you prioritize yourself, put you and your health as #1, you can do it.

This has been a motivational PSA from Ember Holt 😂😂 I HOPE YOU GUYS LOVE THE BOOK AS MUCH AS I DO! <3

Meh. For a book about finding an incubus in a hot tub there is a significant lack of smut. I didn’t pick this up to read what ended up being a very involved and magical redemption story for the plot. I was really hoping that it would be loaded with spice. Since ya know, incubus demon and all. They feed off of pleasure! There was a lot of seemingly complex magical explanations for different events that didn’t really make a lot of sense. So to sum up, plot was very involved and the smut fell short. What is there is pretty hot, but nothing that felt worthwhile.

Didn’t hold my attention and was very predictable. Also the FMC was super annoying lol. (Why do I always fall for the pretty covers? 😫)

A fun read with a little bit of third act weakness in my opinion. The ending felt rushed and wrapped up in a way that was a little hard to swallow. The rest of the book was a delight though :)

I enjoyed the characters, and especially the snark and nerdiness threaded throughout the narrative. The female and male leads had a good rapport going, and the rest of the cast were also great additions.

Overall, this was a fun and easy popcorn read

This book really grew on me the more I read. A demon, Apollo and a newbie witch with latent powers, Sylvia, fated mates romance. A magical so called haunted hot springs. Loved sentient Charlie duck. Great new friends, especially Irene. Wish I had dust bunnies too. Besides plenty of smut to heat up the pages, good lol moments plus the commotions her cheating ex, Jason, caused. I'd say the book is packed.

Such a fun and endearing story. A strong, business-minded woman gets a new start—with plenty of hiccups along the way. Throw in a pleasure-giving cinnamon-roll demon MMC and a talking rubber duck, and suddenly we’re rebuilding a magical hot spring resort. Read this in one sitting.

- Small town
- Strangers to lovers
- He falls first
- Fated mates

Loved it so much!

This was my first Ember Holt book and I loved it so freaking much. It was the perfect mix of paranormal, witchy, and cozy romance. The PERFECT mix, I cannot express it. And the spice? It was SO good. What made it even better was the communication leading up to said spice, uhhh just *chef’s kiss*. I cannot wait to read more from her and continue on my journey with her writing!

I highly recommend this book, happy reading all!

My Rating: ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

In Short: Cute, cozy fantasy perfection. I don't read a lot of cozy fantasy, but this book makes me want to read more.

General Thoughts: Ember Holt is an author I love to read, so when I saw there was a chance to read this arc, I jumped at the chance. I was looking for a cute, easy, uncomplicated read to get lost in, and this one fit the bill perfectly. It was such a delightfully charming, fun read. I loved the characters and the writing style and the story. It was cozy fantasy at its best--made me feel like I was snuggled in my favorite blanket with a nice warm beverage.

Is it overly complicated? No. Is the plot overly complex? No. But it was cute, and fun. And refreshing. If you want a cozy fantasy read, this one has you covered. Want a darker shadow daddy? Try her other books. Both genres work for Ember.

Spice Meter: ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥 Spicy in all the best ways.

disclaimer: I did receive this as an ARC in return for leaving a voluntarily.

Getting cozy indeed. While I do read a lot of different books. Cozy romances always hold a special place in my heart and this book delivers. This was a great way to start the new year reading journey. The holidays are stressful and this was just what the doctor ordered. I am also a sucker for fated mates and found family.

If you are looking for cute, fun, and smut that smuts then look no further. There were points that I chuckled.

But look I need a Charlie the rubber ducky. That is the most disappoint thing for me is I don't have a Charlie as a cheerleader/confidant.

Also I loved that the MFC was closer to my age. That was soooo nice.

Tropes:

Small Town
Cinnamon Roll MMC (in the best of ways)
Incubus aka demon

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for the chapter titles, it brings back all the nostalgia.
Okay this book has everything, references to my favourite movies, the same foul mouth I was blessed with and is well seasoned with spice.
What I definitely didn‘t expect was that even my overorganised-not-diagnosed-OCD would be pleased.

The only reason I would have reduced a star, was the sacrilegious act of putting pineapple on pizza, which I gracefully overlooked thanks to the choice of fall drink.

This was a 4.5 for me. This book was a lot of fun to read. You have this girl boss FMC who takes on this major project after buying a new business after selling her own and is looking at this as a fresh start after finding her BF in bed with her assistant. I always appreciate that in an FMC who has the courage to do something like that even if it took a stiff drink or two and an emotional support rubber duck to give her the courage to do so. I just loved it. I also adored the rubber duck who you think is just an emotional support object but come to find out Sylvia with unknown latent magic had actually made him sentient. So, all the time she thought she was just talking to herself as her rubber duck she was actually having a conversation with her rubber duck. With Apollo i just loved how respectful he was when it came to Sylvia and letting her set the pace and let her get acclimated to everything, he was throwing at her and at the same time doing everything he could magically and physically to help her and her business. He was just a sweetheart.
Overall, this book def lived up to the cozy fantasy with spice and was a good time read that had me smiling throughout it. I could have probably finished it in one day if I had started it earlier in the day bc I was just zooming through it.

This book is about Sylvia who when she got home to Suprise her boyfriend with news of selling her business found him cheating on her with her assistant who she thought of as a friend. While processing her thoughts with the help of some strong spirits and her emotional support rubber duck she decides since she has to buy a new business for tax reasons let's do it in a new place where she can start fresh. Well, the next morning wakes up to find that she had bought a hot spring in Colorado which sounds like just the adventure she was looking for with the bonus of a relaxing hot springs. So, she packs up and sets out on this new adventure but when she gets to the town, she doesn't quite get the warm welcome she was hoping for when her biggest competitor basically threatens to run her out of town long before she can open her doors for business. And if him messing with her business wasn't bad enough it turns out her hot springs is rumored to be haunted something she thought to be a joke... that is until she finds an incubus winged demon who claims to be trapped in her hot spring. After getting over her shock she comes to an agreement with the Demon where he will have to use his magic to help her get fix up this place since her rival seems to be blocking all the contractors in town from doing the job. The catch she has to let him make her hotter than any of her springs in order to fuel his magic and eventually help him get free of the curse keeping him there. But soon this pragmatic arrangement starts to become sensually charged encounters that leave her aching for his touch so much that she starts to dread the deadline where she will have to choose either the success of her business or take a chance on a demon who has captured her heart.

I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

“Oh no! There’s an Incubus in My Hot Spring” by Emma Holt is a spicy supernatural cozy romance between Incubus Apollo and Sylvia, a witch and powerhouse business woman. It is book one in the series, “Getting Cozy with Demons.” This story is enchanting, gasp-inducing, heart fluttering, and belly warming.
After finding her boyfriend (now ex) cheating, Sylvia buys a run-down hot spring in the middle-of-nowhere, Colorado, at the advice of her sentient Struggle Ducky, Charlie. When she arrives, she is immediately stonewalled by Mark, the other Hot Spring resort owner in town. She meets the Incubus, Apollo, who is tied to the mountain and the resort after being cursed. Agreeing to bind herself to him in exchange for the power to save her business, all he requests is her. Will she be able to stop Mark from ruining her business, or will she lose her business and Apollo in the process?
“Incubus in my Hot Spring” is a 🌶🌶🌶 spiced romance. It is and also isn’t (hard to explain, you’ll have to read) a slow-burn romance. It’s a 🌊 mist daddy 🌊, he falls first and harder, and fated mates delight. There is a sentient Struggle Ducky named Charlie in this story, and he is a pure delight who must be protected at all costs. While he isn’t necessarily a comic relief character, he serves as a sounding board character. It actually works. It isn’t odd, random, or out of place. It genuinely works for the story.
The characters fit the story and they blend seamlessly to only better the book. Apollo is an endearing Incubus; he is attentive, protective, and kind. His care for the found family he has with Sylvia and Charlie are noteworthy. Sylvia is a hispanic woman with a strong can-do attitude and unwavering conviction. Despite her mother’s remarks, Mark’s obstacles, and personal doubts, she is driven to be successful.
Apollo’s origins are a mystery and ambiguous and I found that notable. It makes this story one of a kind. Who is his “Maker”? Why is he different from his siblings? Why was there goal only to learn and understand humankind? This idea is bolstered by the conversation Sylvia and her mother have that almost suggests there is more than we think.
I liked that this was a genuine, cozy romance. There were no major miscommunications, breakups, or (major/troublesome) internal conflicts. All drama that occurs comes from outside sources, and while there are shocking revelations, it doesn’t intrude on the relationship between Apollo and Sylvia.

If you like cozy romances, enchanting love interests, and found families, this book is for you!

Honestly I didn't know where this one would take me but the cover alone was my vibe for the weekend 😅

Syliva, the FMC, has all the great qualities of a MC I love, she's confident, determined, and relentless. But upon buying a run down hot spring her life changes forever. Enter, Apollo, the smexy MMC, he is literally the epitome of the perfect boyfriend.

While this is definitely a cozy romance it still holds to some real deal life issues, meddling family, crazy ex's, and so much more. BUT, the side characters are all wonderful (I'd want them as my own friends tbh) and the sweetest HEA was the cherry on top.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone who loves sweet yet spicy romance, witchy vibes, or magic in their books!

I will definitely be checking out Holt's other books and series!

Obligatory “I got this as an advanced Copy for free” message
No spoilers
Let me start off by saying monster romance is not my usual trope. Shifter romance sure, but this is only my second ever monster romance.
And I LOVED it!
My best friend and I decided to both read it and I thought I’d have to push through and force myself to read it. Once I caved and finally started it, I couldn’t put it down. I’m talking trying to discretely finish a chapter while at my desk at work. The chapters are fairly short so it moves quickly, I’m unfortunately just a slow reader lol.
Highly recommend this to everyone, but especially to those who enjoy romance with monsters, witches, fates mates, and of course a couple bad guys thrown in.

This was such a fun book to read. I’m so glad to have received this as an ARC.  The sexual tension between Sylvia and Apollo was so well written as well as the backstories which provided to give context to Apollos’ long life. The added pressures with Mark, Jason and Mom added just enough of annoyance to make me root for Syl and Apollo the whole time. This book is a one and done with a great epilogue. Side note, Sylvia definitely deserves the happy ending and all the “blueberry pancakes” she wants.

Such a fun, cosy, and spicy read. I'm such a sucker for anything monster romance related. But wow, I had such a good time with this, watching the hot spring come to life and seeing Sylvie discover the magic surrounding the place was so cute and whimsical.

Apollo was also an amazing mmc, very respectful and demure we love that. But also, being an incubus, those spicy scenes were so good! Their chemistry was amazing. I'd love to see some cameos with them in the future books!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I got an ARC copy of it and read it within a few days. It was the kind of book that I would read not only at my usual reading times, but also when I had like 10 min free at work. All of the characters are fully fleshed out, and I found the main character, Sylvia, to be very relatable. Her mom hit a little too close to home for me, very real. The first 2/3 or so of the book was pretty predictable, but the end definitely took some unexpected turns! It is definitely spicy in a great way.

This was a cute story and I enjoyed how cozy it was. Apollo was the perfect manic pixie dream boy, and I really enjoyed the setting of the hot springs.

I think if there was just a few more chapters buildup to the ending, it would have been more believable. As it was, there were some character changes that happened a bit too rapidly, otherwise it probably would have been 5 stars.

Steamy, cozy and all sorts of fun! Who wouldn't want an incubus to lavish attention on them?

Sylvia and Apollo were perfect for each other but then you add in their back stories and complexities and it only gets better. My only complaint is that the story wrapped up a little too fast but I will certainly be looking for more books by this author in the future.

This was just cute.

I wish I read this as a young adult instead of watching porn from crappy videos taken on a 2MP camera phone in 2003. Had I 29.6mL of Sylvia's common sense I could have reno'd my bedroom to start a friendship bracelet business on MySpace and probably wouldn't have let that guy suck my toe in his studio apartment.

Ah well, the lessons we learn.
Over all 4/5 for enjoyment
Charlie gets 7/5 alone. Once this Labubu craze dies down a bit I'm starting a struggle duck business

✨ 3.5/5 stars ✨

This was a fun (and spicy 🌶️ ) monster romance story. The plot was fun but predictable, and the story did drag some at about 60%. The world building and magic was easy to understand, without being overly complex. I enjoyed the character development of both of the main characters (although I was frustrated how quick the FMC was willing to forgive the “enemies”). But it was a fun read that didn’t require a lot of brain power, so this was just what I needed!
