In college, this was a textbook for my very first preaching class. I remember my professor saying he read it every year to keep reminding himself of the basics, so I thought I’d give it a re-read too. Great little book. Simple and clear in encouraging the preacher to be simple and clear.
Excellent comments and tips for all who prepare sermons. Cuts all the bullsh_t that infiltrates what one hears today from behind the sacred desk; as the speaker shows no study, reading of the Scripture under focus in the sermon, really seeking to find where the hearers are and then scratch their backs rather than feeding the people of the Lord from the Scriptures. (John 21.1 - 19).
This is a book I should have read a few years ago. It is a short yet vital instruction manual that is an easy read for someone like me who preaches occasionally to fill in for our pastor in a small church.
Great simple little book! It can be read in one short sitting. The book has some valuable ideas for preaching. In my case, I was substituting the "preaching" for "writing Christian books". Awesome ideas to remember. I gave it a 4 star only because I wish it were longer with a few more pointers.
The master of preaching himself shares many principles of how to preach, and how not to preach. This book does not teach you “how to prepare a sermon” but rather once the sermon is prepared, here are some principles to consider.
Great for anybody who teaches God’s Word - both novices and experienced.
Short, simple, and helpful principles on how to be a good preacher. Nothing mind-blowing, but helpful reminders that have hopefully pushed me to improve in some areas.
