I would like to apologize for my inactivity on this platform- Pine Cove has utterly uprooted my desires to have any time at all to read this summer. I’ll be back in August✊

Probably the least original 1 John commentary I consulted, but still helpful. Akin seemed to like surveying a bunch of views. However, he never stayed far from the typical interpretations. He was 4th on my list of 1 John commentaries (behind Kruse, Yarbrough, and Hiebert), so I didn't consult him a ton, but I was still glad to have him.

Akin was the most accessible commentary I consulted. (Accessibility is often a strength in this series.) He would be a good step up from a Wiersbe, etc. to give to a Sunday school teacher or young preacher who wants a little more meat.

Concise and keen. There are times when Akin takes no position but allows the reader to decide for himself after having presented various sides to a passage. Overall, this is a commentary and a partial survey (with comparative and contrasting views).

Solid commentary that captures most of the critical challenges to these books. Readable style with sufficient interaction with the Greek.
