Rate this book

If you are looking for a fun chick-lit or rom-com read, look no further. This is part of a new series called Return to Christmas Falls with each book written by different authors. I've read several books by Susan Hatler and have enjoyed them all. She never fails to deliver a fun, humorous, romantic and swoony read, usually with some emotional moments thrown in to make the characters real and relatable.

Morgan has finally done it, she's take that final step that will seal her fate in her mother's eyes. She's returned home, and not with the degree that her parents think she was completing. And she's leased a building for her business, not the bank that they planned on her working at. What's one more thing on her list of making her mom even more unhappy with her? Maybe a tall and very handsome stranger...wait, not a stranger but a childhood friend, her brother's best friend to be exact and her long time crush. The troubled boy of the town. The boy who has returned, is not a young boy anymore and he happens to be in her soon to be shop. Wait, what? How does he have a key? He's leased the building too for a furniture shop? No way! Double No Way!!!!!!! With the landlord out of the country these two will just have to go toe to toe to figure out who gets the lease and their dream shop. Or will they learn to share, compromise and work together? 'Cause, come on, furniture shops and salons go great together...don't they????

This is a great afternoon read, a weekend read or a curl up by the fire (or imaginary fire) with a hot cup of cocoa in the evening read. I have been in bed this weekend not feeling well at all. Trying to sleep but when your mind has a million and one things on it, the sleeping doesn't come easy. I had just downloaded this book yesterday and knew it was the perfect read for helping get my mind off of everything and hopefully rest. Unfortunately, no, I didn't fall asleep but I sure enjoyed my time snuggled up with my book. It only took me a couple hours to read through this one. And I was all smiles, maybe a few tears leaked out (not completely admitting to that one yet) and definitely some chuckles were heard coming from my mouth.

This story definitely has a lighthearted feel to it, but there's also a more somber side of it too. A second chance story. Second chance in life and love. Morgan has conformed to her mother's expectations for many years because she's trying to make up for a great tragedy that was suffered in her family. Yet no matter how hard she tries, she's not happy. Finally taking that leap and taking a chance at fulfilling her dreams of being a beautician and owning her own salon, she returns home and avoids her mom at all cost.

Morgan was a character who has many wounds she needs to let heal. I loved watching her character arc. There were a couple moments that I wasn't sure what decision she was going to make. Fingers were crossed hoping she would make the right one (or the right one according to me). I loved her family dynamics...yes even with her mom acting like she did. We don't see much of the dad until the end but her brother Connor is pretty awesome. I have a feeling he might be a main character in one of the other books in this series. The support Morgan receives from her friends and community was fun to read about. I love stories of smaller communities that rally around each other. I've lived in both big cities and very small communities and am just a little partial to the smaller communities. So I think after experiencing that way of life and loving it, I love reading about it too.

Dallas, well he's just wonderful! Definitely a favorite main male character for me. The chemistry is off the charts in this book. I loved how gentle Dallas was with Morgan. There's quite a lot of figuring out past hurts, Morgan and Dallas coming to understand more about their previous years together and telling each other the other side of the story. All in all, I loved their friendship turned love. Especially as they talked about childhood/teenage moments that they experienced together and how the other perceived it. Cute, fun and swoony!

There is a moment of peril, of course we have to have some angst in our characters' love story. The one that happens near the end of the story definitely was not what I was expecting to happen and the way the characters reacted had me on edge as I sat turning pages hoping it would all resolve happily ever after. I loved the ending, I should clarify and say the last 20 percent ending. LOL!!! Not to say I didn't love the other parts of the book, because I did! I enjoyed it all but was pleasantly surprised and pleased with how the author wrapped it all up together. *happy sigh*

Content: Clean. There are scenes where the characters make out, so a little bit more passionate kissing. Nothing more past kissing though. Some moments of the characters checking each other out. A moment of life threatening peril, drowning and talk about the death of a family member and a mother abandoning her family. I'd recommend for older YA and up.

I received a review copy from the publisher, Hatco Publishing, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

I always enjoy Susan Hatler's books. She writes charming contemporary romances that are usually low-angst, sweet, not too heavy on sexual content, and charming. I figured with her name, a second chance romance (my favorite!), and a Christmas story I couldn't go wrong.

26-year-old Morgan Reed has just finished beauty school and is ready to return to her charming little home town Christmas Falls and open her own beauty salon. When she arrives however, she realizes that her landlady has leased the space to two people, her and her childhood crush, Dallas Parker. This story is all about them reconnecting and making things work in spite of some issues (her family, insecurities on both sides, and some stuff both have to let go in order to move forward).

I really enjoyed this for the most time. It was a bit on the cheesy side, but surprisingly, that didn't bother me. It was a sweet story about starting over and deciding what to hold on to and what to let go, and I enjoyed the characters' journey. Up until the last 20-something percent. I did not really care for all the drama crammed into the ending . It was just all a bit too much for me. Add to that that the heroine didn't grow a spine until the very end , and I was not really convinced. For me, if the book is about the journey to her independence, I would like to see her assert herself somewhere in the middle and deal with the fall-out, not let her mother walk all over her for almost the entire story. But that's just me :)

All in all, this was a nice, sweet, and clean holiday romance for me. 2.5 stars!

December 2017:

Oh how I still LOVE Forever Yours in Christmas Falls! It's SO good! If you haven't read it or the other books in the Return to Christmas Falls series then you are missing out! Add it to your list! You can thank me later.. ;) Hehe.

October 2017:

Morgan Reed's life is not her own. Everything she has ever done, has been for her parents. And she is miserable! She does not want to get her MBA and she does not want to work in her parents bank. Ever since she was a little girl, the only thing she ever wanted to do was be a beautician. So with the money from the trust her grandparents set up for her, she goes to school to become an esthetician. And now she is moving back to Christmas Falls to open up her very own beauty salon.

But there seems to be a problem with the building she's leased. She's not the only person the landlady has leased the spaced to. Who might the other person be? Dallas Parker. THE Dallas Parker. Her older brother's best friend. The boy she fell in love with when she was a young girl. The boy who, according to her mother, has caused their family a lot of pain and heartache. The boy the whole town thinks is a menace.

Oh why is this happening to her?! How will she get her parents to understand this is what she was meant to do? Especially when they find out who she'll be sharing a space with. There's only one solution. She has got to get him out of her space. She'll sabotage him. She'll turn the space into the most girly place you have ever seen. He'll want to leave for sure.

But the more time they spend together, the more old feelings start to resurface. And Morgan will discover that she wasn't alone in her feelings. Dallas felt the same way. But with all the rumors going around about him, he had to make something of himself before anything could happen between them. He had to make himself worthy of her.

And now that she is back in his life, he will fight to keep her in it. He will fight to keep her dreams alive. He will fight to make her life her own. Tragedy or no tragedy, Dallas will NOT let her slip through his hands. They are meant to be together and he will do everything in his power to make sure they finally get their HEA!

*dreamy sigh* Oh my gosh! You guys! This book. This one right here is absolutely amazing! I loved it! I was sucked in from the very beginning and instantly fell in love with Morgan and Dallas! The feels were definitely real my friends! I laughed out loud, got teary eyed, growled in frustration, had a goofy smile on my face and let out quite a few little dreamy sighs. Loved it!

Guys! I am seriously loving Christmas Falls! I can tell you right now that this will be a series I will be reading over and over and over again! It's amazing! I can't wait to finish the rest of the books!

It's been awhile since I have read any books by Ms. Hatler and I forgot what I have been missing out on! It's about time to pick up more of her books! She definitely knows how to write a swoony romance!

And these two! *dreamy sigh* I think they make the perfect Morgan and Dallas! <3

This was a sweet coming home story! Morgan has always done what her mother wants, but she’s had enough. Moving back home after eight years away, she’s decided to open her own beauty salon. (Wasn’t sure how her parents didn’t realize she never got an MBA, surely they would have wondered about her graduation, classes, etc). Only snag, the building owner mistakenly leased on the same building to Dallas Parker! Her high school crush and town bad boy. Neither is willing to budge and end up opening a Salon-Furniture Store!

Cute idea for a story, not sure realistically if those two businesses would ever go together (the smell from the hair salon wouldn’t be great for people shopping for furniture. But for the book, I thought it was fun. I liked Morgan and thought Dallas had some swoony moments. I would have loved to know what happened to Dallas’s mom.

I loved the small-town setting and Christmas charm. A sweet story.

(4.5 Stars) Morgan and Dallas have a connection from the past and when they both move back to their hometown and are leased the same building for their businesses, sparks start flying once again.

I love the small town romances and this one is no exception. Morgan is a contradiction--she's feisty, smart, and strong, yet she just cannot stand up to her overbearing and controlling mother. Dallas is persistent and patient and has worked so hard to become who was meant to be after his rebellious and wild youth. I loved the way the characters fell into a swoony relationship without meaning to, but it's impossible to fight what is meant to be.

Sometimes misunderstandings can stress a person out. Those stressors can last for years that it's a difficult thing to deal with, as Morgan well comprehends. I love the way old wrongs were mended and the way new beginnings emerge. What a sweet escape!

Content: mild+ romance; mild violence/death

(4.5 Stars) I love a hilarious first meet, but what makes this one even better is that it's actually a re-meet. Dallas was one of Morgan's older brother's best friends and although her mother blames him for a tragedy in the family, Morgan has always had a little crush. And that meet was a great way to start the story.

Although this story had some sizzling chemistry, there are some deeper issues that both Dallas and Morgan have to work through and some of them are seriously intimidating. I grew up in a small town and I've always felt that if I were to move back, expectations would be high and I've grown and changed since then. Morgan has worked hard to develop into the woman she is, but it's hard to break the mold of what's expected of her, especially with a lack of communication. Dallas has to deal with breaking the idea that he's not a troublemaker anymore.

I love how each girl is tied to their high school mentor, Miss Anna Cate, and loved watching the advice and interactions with her. I wish this story would have showed more of Morgan's friendships with the other girls, or even one girl, to really give the reader an idea of how strong the bond was. So far, I'm loving who these girls have grown up to be--so giving and generous.

This is sure to be a story that will warm your heart and give you a few butterflies in the process.

Content: mild+ romance (steamy clean kissing); mild violence/moments of peril.

Morgan is returning to Christmas Falls - not to work at the bank like her parents think, but to open her own hair salon. Morgan has done everything in her life to please her parents until she secretly used her trust money to go to cosmetology school instead of pursuing an MBA.

Morgan is surprised when she goes to check out her rental property for her salon, and discovers Dallas Parker - her brother's best friend. She is not happy to find out that he thinks he is renting the same property for his custom furniture store.

I loved that Morgan and Dallas have both grown up and matured over the 8 years they haven't seen each other. Dallas knew he was immature and reckless and he joined the Marines and made a conscious effort to become a man deserving of a woman like Morgan. Morgan is learning to be her own person instead of being who others think she should be.

The story goes thus; Morgan comes home to Christmas Falls to open a salon and finds herself co-leasing the place with her childhood crush, Dallas and sparks literally fly…

A second book in the Christmas Falls series and written by Susan Hatler, this is far better than the first book. Susan Hatler has made her main character Morgan feel the helplessness of being stuck between family and love. She has made Morgan a strong character who is loyal to both her family and Dallas.

Morgan is a cosmetologist, and her parents are unaware of her choice of career. They expect her to work in their bank. And the mom hates Dallas and blames him for family tragedy. So Morgan is caught between living her own life and wanting to keep her parents happy.

At 164 pages, it is a short book, but Susan Hatler packs it with so much flavor. I liked seeing Morgan and Dallas fall in love, I liked seeing Morgan and her brother banter, and I liked seeing Morgan becoming independent.

What I didn’t like is this series is based on friendship between 7 friends who have all separated, written by 7 authors. But those friends are mentioned only in passing, and there is not a single chapter or page, based on that friendship. If there is a poem on friendship, the book ought to have that friendship as a base too. Sometimes I found Morgan behaving like a stupid teenager, like climbing on a slippery rock and falling off.

The story, the plot line, the secrets, the love, and the funny moments were really good and I find Susan Hatler to be a really good author who can spin a beautiful yarn even in 164 pages. That’s pure talent.

P.S. There is nothing much Christmassy about this book but it was a fun, quick read. It blows away the stresses and is a great way to end the day.

I received an ARC from NetGalley and publisher Hatco Publishing, and this is my honest and unbiased opinion.

Susan Hatler proves yet again with this book just why I love her! Her books always give me butterflies and swoony feelings with flirty banter and fun characters. And Dallas? Um, hello. Morgan and I may have a crush on him together. He's just full of strong manly traits that are so attractive!

It's always satisfying to see a character find the strength to follow their dreams and Morgan definitely does that in this book. She has tried to fit the mold her mother has for her but it's never been what she wants. When Morgan finally finds the courage to step into her own path and find her own happiness, my heart did a little song of joy. She owned her decisions and I felt that strength.

I love the added depth of emotion and connection a shared tragedy brings to Morgan and Dallas's relationship. Their history has many good moments and couple not so good. It gives the story a good balance with all the reconnecting chemistry that is flying around.

This book is part of a series but can stand all on it's own. I've been reading the series and I am absolutely loving it. Each book is by a different author but the books intertwine with location and a common character of Miss Anna Cate. This is the perfect series to get into with the holiday season fast approaching!

If you are looking for a fun chick-lit or rom-com read, look no further. This is book one of the new Christmas Mountain series. It was previously released as Forever Yours in Christmas Falls but has had a little update to it. The books are all written by other authors. This was my second reading of this book and I still loved it just as much! I’m looking forward to book #4 in the series which will be coming out later this month! Yay! I’m looking forward to it!

when i tell you i was FRUSTRATED
the first half was fast and happy, i should’ve known…
i liked the deepness of it but the drama was a lot to handle, i just wanted a happy read :,)

i liked Dallas (not the name tho) he was sweet, reassuring and caring; Morgan was a nice yet conflicted person that made things a bit more difficult than it should be

the problem of this book could’ve been solved easily if Morgan LEANED all the way into being a rebel by doing what she wants or being a people pleaser to awful, awful people, her only problem was choosing the middle
which putting it in simpler words i guess it actually is a bit difficult for some people and is understandable, but frustrating to read

why does this have the argument of ‘your mom may be controlling and a massive pain in the ass (at best), but, hey, it’s because she loves you and at least you have one’??? the mom is so frustrating I just wanted her off the picture asap and the father i thought was going to balanced her, but he is almost the same
also excusing her mother’s actions by saying she’s trying to ‘protect’ Morgan, i mean that’s obvious, but her ways were wronggg and frustrating!!! ugh

sweet ending <3

A Christmas Mix-Up

Morgan Reed comes back to her hometown, Christmas Falls, Tennessee, to open her own beauty salon. Somehow there is a mix-up and an old friend, Dallas Parker, also has a lease on the building for his furniture store.

I loved watching Morgan and Dallas work through this problem. It was immature, but also funny to watch Morgan hiding from her overbearing mother who doesn’t know that Morgan is a beautician. There were plenty of awkward and laugh out loud moments.

I loved how Dallas and Morgan supported and encouraged one another. Their return to friendship, and shift to romance was sweet.

I am loving this series, and Morgan and Dallas did not disappoint!

This was a quick, easy read and a decent way to pass time. However, I didn’t really connect to either of the main characters and didn’t really care for the drama that ensued towards the end. I would have loved to see more growth for Morgan throughout the book rather than her finally standing up for herself at the very end.

I really enjoy reading Susan Hatler and, even though this wasn’t a favorite of mine, I will continue to read her in the future.

Forever Yours in Christmas Falls
Return to Christmas Falls, Book 5

I Picked Up This Book Because: Wanted a quick read

The Characters:

Morgan Reed:
Dallas Parker:
Ruby, Conner, Mr & Mrs Reed, Ms Anna Cate

The Story:

The set up was ideal to me. Morgan is moving home to Christmas Falls to open a salon. Through an accident her salon space is rented to both her and her childhood crush Dallas Parker. This is right up my alley however the things I didn’t count on were the spectre of Morgan’s sister Grace and Morgan’s unending need to please her mother no matter how miserable it makes her. Seriously I could have kicked Morgan. It took her way too long to realize she needs to live her life for herself and shame on her mother for making her think any different. I know my thoughts are harsh as I couldn’t tell anyone how to act after losing a child or sister but I found it so annoying.

Overall it wasn’t a terrible story, just a frustrating one.

Romance, clean
Cute fun romance, with some twists. Morgan and Dallas' coming together in the shop they each think they have full rights too is a cute compromise and a fall that was fun to read. Their pasts, linked together by a tragedy in Morgan's family that Dallas is connected too, made this all the more poignant and real.
Fun chemistry, lovely setting with small town character and charm, the teacher who they come back to support, just altogether a fun read. I always love reading characters that are honest, real, and with hurting pasts that get healing and find love in the course of the novel.

-‘A furniture store and a beauty salon don’t mix.”-‘

This is Morgan’s story. Morgan returns to Christmas Falls to open her beauty salon. The problem is, when she arrives, she discovers that her landlady has rented the space to her brother’s best friend - as well as to Morgan. How will they possibly work things out? A furniture store and a beauty salon can’t possibly share the same space... or can they?

Mmm... Dallas was so sexy! Loved the romance in this story.

This is book five of seven, and has Morgan Reed coming home to Christmas falls. She is wanting to open a hair salon and the building she rented turns is also rented by the person she has had a crush on forever, Dallas Parker. The problem is her mother does not like Dallas, she also does not know that she used her inheritance to go to cosmetology school and not finish her MBA. She does not want to work in the family banking business. Now after eight years she must deal with family, the letter from her choir teacher and if any of the girls are around seeing them especially Ash her best friend. A very moving story form both Morgan and Dallas. Her mother can and is a pain in the caboose, but like the first book you do get some closer and you do see a little bit of work towards saving the community center from the first as well. Overall a good story. All of these books are written by different authors but at least the two books I have read seem to be following from the first book as far as the story of the town. I got this book from Netgalley.com I gave it 4 stars. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com

Everytime I pick up a book from this author I know, I am going to enjoy it. I love Christmas theme stories, especially if they are written in the first person point of view. This is a deal breaker for me. This was another sweet, quick read from this author that did not disappoint.

Juvenile, unlikeable main character. First person. Plot built on sand and desperately in need of editing. Dnf at the end of chapter 1

The 26-year-old heroine returns to her hometown at Christmas time after 8 years away following the tragic death of her sister. This is a G-rated, small-town, family-drama romance.

Absolutely adorable. That’s what you need to know. I re-read this book this weekend because I was looking for something holiday-ish to take my mind off the heat. I didn’t remember how touching, sweet, and just plain loving this story was.

Morgan Reed and Dallas Parker have much to (personally) work thru in order to, at first, have their combined businesses – in the same store front! I won’t go into details however Morgan has just returned to her hometown, carrying tons of emotional family baggage and is going to set up her new salon business. Her family has, let’s call ‘em higher expectations for her however this is what she wants to do with her life AND she is very good at it. Dallas has been back in town for a bit longer and he has, let’s call it a reputation to live down before folks will trust him. He is starting a store to sell his handmade furniture…in the same store front as Morgan. Trust that it is much funnier when the author tells the story but these are highlights.

Add to the mix that Dallas was best friends with Morgan’s older brother, growing up, and she had a major school girl crush on him. There is bad blood between Dallas and Morgan’s family – romantic trauma and tension ahead! – and reading about them growing closer was fun. Then we can add in Morgan’s family and old friends. Oh boy. Loved her brother and her friends, but her parents were tough to take. All in all, it made for a great story and I loved the holiday slant to the read.

I felt for Morgan and the things she had to get “right” within herself and I loved Dallas. He, too, had to come to terms with his younger self. And the two of them together? Explosive! Turns out Dallas is a standup guy and always there for Morgan. Really good story and thoroughly enjoyed re-reading!

Compromise between friends-
Morgan Reed has returned to Christmas Mountain, Montana to open up her salon. What she doesn’t expect is to find Dallas Parker in her shop. The one boy now man she had a crush on for the longest time.

Dallas can’t believe Morgan Reed is back home and in his shop he’s going to open as a furniture store. What they both discover is the landlady has rented the space to the both of them. What to do?

They both have a dilemma now. It seems they need to come to some comprise.

What a sweet story, heartwarming. A little sad a times..

Highly recommend.

I am in love with this series and I want to inhale each one. I seriously can't read them fast enough. This story is just good. It makes me forget how stressful this holiday season is already getting. I get to sit back for a little bit and walk in someone else's shoes.

Thank you, NetGalley for letting me read this book.

This was a cute and fluffy romance with a sweet heroine and adorable moments, but i would have liked it more if the drama wasn't resolved so close to the end of the book. Overall a sweet story.

Forever Yours in Christmas Falls is an emotionally packed romance that touches on so much more than the growing love between Morgan and Dallas. There is a family dynamic here that may not precisely fit every family, but I feel most of us can relate. For years now Morgan has, on the surface, conformed to her mother’s demands of her life. She dressed the part, associated with the right people, and lived a life that wasn’t truly her own. Her rebellions were her circle of best friends in school, a crush on her brother’s best friend and dreams that were far different from her mother’s expectations. Morgan was living or being pushed to live another person’s life… her sister Grace who had died in a tragic accident that haunts people still. Her mother couldn’t see that Morgan wanted something very different, so Morgan did the only thing she could do. She left home, went to school for what she wanted to do and stayed away from home so her parents wouldn’t know what she was really up to. But now it’s time to come home. For herself. For Miss Anna Cate. And perhaps, finally, for the right reasons. It was time to face down her mother – and it wasn’t going to be easy.

A mix-up with the lease of the property that Morgan wanted for her new salon… and the property that Dallas planned on for his handmade furniture store would spark the beginning of their relationship. Two people who had always been attracted to each other, each had their secret crush might now as adults see each other in a different light. There may be a future growing for them… but there are so many roadblocks that they’ll have to navigate. Her past and family. His past and the town’s perception of him. And most of all… Morgan’s mother.

It’s very easy to view Ivy, Morgan’s mother, as the villain in this romance. The truth is that she really isn’t. Oh, she’s stubborn, opinionated, demanding and strict… but she’s also a mom, a fact that Miss Anna Cate makes clear to us and Morgan late in this story. Hey, I’m a mom and I didn’t see Miss Anna Cate’s viewpoint until it was brought to my attention – so it’s easy to see her as the bad guy in this romance.

Both Dallas and Morgan are holding secrets close to their hearts, secrets that have shaped them and need to come out into the open to be healed. Funny how love can do that. There were moments when it looked like they couldn’t possibly find their future, and the emotional feel of those moments flows from the page to the reader so poignantly.

I have always loved Susan Hatler’s romances… but this one goes to another level. I picked up this story from NetGalley and within minutes went and pre-ordered the entire series.and I’m so glad I did for this has been a wonderful journey with friends reuniting, families changing, and futures being forged – and it’s not over yet for there are more stories to come. I was touched by Morgan and Dallas’ romance, by their lives and I would highly recommend this story and the entire series to any Romance reader, no matter the genre. It’s that good.

I purchased this entire series to keep final editions in my own personal Kindle library.
