Sophie & Maxim: an intriguing mafia romance
I liked this second standalone story in the New York Russian Mafia series. Maxim is the Bratva boss. Cold, calculating, seemingly uncaring in anything but money. But his Italian rival, Federico, threatens his empire. Sophie is a gifted, super-competent cybersecurity expert with a heart of gold and with a spine made of steel. I loved her strength, determination and sass. She is ready to marry her fiancé, Evan, when she catches him red-handed with her best friend. It turns out that he just wanted to exploit her skills. He has a file with a tremendous amount of stolen money from Maxim, encrypted in a complicated code – a code that Sophie helped created without knowing its purpose. There is a timer on that file – if the time ends, all the money are gone. Sophie ends up in Maxim’s arms. Action, a (seemingly) marriage of convenience, shrewd enemies from within and outside, an unexpected pregnancy, a ticking clock and much, much more compound a rollercoaster of a story. I loved every page. 5 stars.

This book grabbed my attention from the start. The dynamic between the emotionally reserved Maxim and the expressive Sophie is compelling, and their relationship intertwined with action kept me on the edge of my seat.

Wow! What a great story. My heart broke for Sophie. I was literally on an emotional roller coaster with this book. Love these characters and the dynamic of this story. I can’t wait to read the next book

Maria Frost’s mafia romances are always great reads and this one was no exception! The FMC Sophie is a computer genius and it’s a nice change to see an be FMC with a STEM background.
