Big Sky First Responders
Book 1: Deadly Ranch Hideout Book 2: Witness Protection Ambush Book 3: Unsolved Montana Investigation Book 4: Dangerous Montana Inheritance
It was supposed to be a fresh start. But the moment Rose Balfour stepped onto the inherited property, everything changed. With danger rising and nowhere safe to run, Dangerous Montana Inheritance becomes a testimony of trust … the kind that grows when we finally fix our eyes on the One who holds it all.
Dangerous Montana Inheritance begins with an inheritance Rose Balfour never wanted — and almost didn’t survive. From the first pages, the story pulses with adrenaline, but what stayed with me wasn’t just the suspense… it was the thread of quiet, unshakeable faith that anchored every twist.
“Lord, our lives are always in Your loving hands…” Rose’s prayer is more than a moment. It becomes a turning point — a reminder that God isn’t absent in the chaos. He’s present. Pursuing. Protecting. And when Rose begins focusing on Him instead of her fears, the tension and danger doesn’t vanish… but peace begins to rise.
Henry Walsh, a former hostage negotiator with a past of his own, was a standout for me. He doesn’t demand Rose’s trust — he earns it. And through every ambush, every betrayal, every inch of uncertainty, he never stops pointing toward safety. Not just physical safety, but soul-deep security.
This story reminded me that the things we never asked for — the inheritances that feel like traps, the detours that feel too risky — might just be sacred ground. The kind of surrendered ground where God strips away what’s safe and reveals what’s true. Because sometimes the fight brings clarity. And sometimes the very things that shake us… are what God uses to shape us.
Faith doesn’t silence fear. It stands tall in the middle of it — because the hands holding us are stronger than whatever’s hunting us.

This is a Romantic Suspense, and this is the fourth book in the Big Sky First Responders series. I have not read the first three books in this series before picking up this book. I read this book by listening to the audiobook for this book, and I liked the audiobook. I liked the fast paced action in this book. I found there are some moments in this book that were a little too crazy for me or unbelievable. I did not connect to the characters. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.
Dangerous Montana Inheritance by Jenna Night, narrated by Emma Lysy. Very enjoyable narration. Apparently this is the fourth book in her Big Sky First Responders series. This is the only one I have read, maybe it would have been better to read the others first. This is a fast paced Romantic Suspense. I would have liked to see more of a build up before the characters decided they loved each other but that might be just me. Thank you to #NetGalley and #Harlequin Audio Fire this Arc. This is my honest review. Releases Sept 30, 2025
What happens when you are running for your life and the high school class clown is your rescuer? Can you depend on him to keep you alive? Dangerous Montana Inheritance by Jenna Night is fast-paced, page-turning action. Rose and Henry learn to trust each other as Rose's life is threatened over and over with no idea why. Releases Sept. 30th. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
"Dangerous Montana Inheritance" is a Christian romantic suspense. It's the 4th in a series but works as a standalone. Henry had a crush on Rose back in high school, but he knew that his parent's criminal reputation would always color how people in the town saw him. He left to join the military and later work at a private security firm. Now he's back to get his inherited ranch in shape to sell. Rose left for college, but she quit to return and constantly bail her parents out of their bad decisions, like taking a loan from an unscrupulous lender. That man has since been murdered, and she's a witness at the trial. Two men try to kidnap her so she can't testify, apparently worried she knew more than she did.
We're repeatedly told that Henry had no plans to live in his home town due to his parent's reputation, and he didn't have a job elsewhere. Rose wanted to leave to finish college. They could both leave and be together elsewhere, but they made it sound like the only real option was to live locally so Rose could continue to 'help' her parents. I was disappointed that, in the end, she still felt responsible to spend her resources on making her parents happy. Rose couldn't defend herself from attack, so she was grateful for Henry's free protection and that he always came to rescue her. Both Henry and Rose decided that they'd misjudged each other and that they were a good match.
The story had some realism issues. For example, multiple professionals had guns but they always tucked them into their waistband, like they'd never heard of a gun holster. And the professional hitmen never made any effort to hide their identities, which was the only reason that law enforcement finally figured out who they were. The police didn't look for fingerprints or other clues. Hopefully some of this will be fixed in the final version as I read an advanced reader's copy.
The main characters prayed for help. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this enjoyable story.
I received a free ebook review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.
Dangerous Montana Inheritance is the fourth title in the Big Sky First Responders series, featuring Rose and Henry. Former high school classmates, and at times, perhaps the bane of each other’s existence, both Rose and Henry have changed in many ways from the person they each once thought they knew.
Henry had joined the military, become a hostage negotiator, and had come home to inherit his grandmother’s ranch. He has no plans to stay in this town with the old memories and reminders of his childhood.
Rose stayed, got a job that she’d worked her way up the ladder at. She’d tried to go off to college but was never able to stay long, as her parents’ inability to deal with their financial situation always meant that she had to bail them out, and put her own plans on hold.
Their paths are about to cross once again when Rose inherits a home from an unscrupulous moneylender, who was murdered, and she’s testifying at that trial. For reasons she suspects are related to that trial, she becomes a target for kidnapping and perhaps murder. Perhaps, but there are far more things afoot than either she or Henry realizes.
As Rose begins to go through the inherited house for clues as to why a criminal she didn’t know left her the house, she’ll come across information that might provide answers… if she survives, and if she doesn’t trust the wrong people.
Dangerous Montana Inheritance by Jenna Night is an intriguing, faith-based romantic suspense novel that is well-written, emotional, and is scattered with clues should the reader enjoy putting puzzles together. The action is furious, as Rose and Henry are under almost constant attack. Secrets will be revealed, and the attraction between them will be allowed to flourish… but first, they have to survive to get to that happy ending.

Dangerous Montana Inheritance by Jenna Night (Big Sky First Responders Book 4)
A shocking bequest could cost her life. Attacked on the property she unexpectedly inherited, Rose Balfour barely escapes with the help of former hostage negotiator Henry Walsh. Someone is determined to keep her from testifying at a loan shark’s murder trial. But when she does and the danger continues, Rose suspects there are answers in the house left to her. Teaming up with Henry, Rose uncovers surprising evidence and a powerful enemy determined to silence them. Not even Henry’s isolated ranch is a safe refuge. With their lives on the line and captors closing in, can Rose and Henry expose the web of secrets—before they vanish forever? This is Rose Balfour's Story. This is Henry Walsh's Story. My favorite quote is The woman fought against him and he didn’t blame her one bit.
“I’m here to help,” he whispered with his lips pressed to her ear.
She twisted a little more, and then finally turned to look up at him.
Henry found himself gazing into a face he hadn’t seen in years. Since high school graduation, in fact. “Rose?” he asked in astonishment.
She stared back at him, wild-eyed. After a moment he saw that her panic had subsided and he moved his hand from her mouth. “Henry Walsh?” she said, sounding equally astonished. “Where did you come from?” I recommend this book. Dangerous Montana Inheritance by Jenna Night is a 5 star book. I am looking forward to reading more books by Jenna Night. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions shared here in this review are my own.
This is the first book I have read by Jenna Night and will be keeping an eye out for more by the author. I didn't realise it was book for in a series and as other reviewers have mentioned it is a standalone read. Possibly if you have read the others you would notice characters from these books, but it works well on its own also. We are introduced to Rose Balfour at the beginning about to enter a house she has inherited when she overhears someone wanting to kidnap her. Henry Walsh is driving when he sees someone being chased and goes to help.
Rose and Henry went to school together although were in different circles and had their own issues with their home lives. This comes out as the book progresses. Henry has returned home to do up his grandmother's ranch which he has inherited and was a former hostage negotiator. He feels the need to protect Rose as they work to find out who wants her silenced.
This book has a lot of action and the sense of danger at every turn. I also like the interaction between Henry and Rose. It isn't an easy road for them, and they both have a lot of baggage from their pasts to deal with. As for the villains I was kept guessing although I did have some suspicions at different times.
This book the romance thread was there and probably more than some of the recent books I have read. It featured more so would be 50/50 with a few down times without major danger. Love Inspired Suspense books are becoming my favourite reads this year.
I love a good inheritance story and this one is fantastic! Such a great backdrop for a suspense and this one gives all those edgy vibes and a heap of mystery. The opening scene is all heart-stopping action and sets the stage for all the tension and drama to come. And, mercy, but the pursuits are relentless and the danger increasing. Makes for an unputdownable kind of read.
Henry and Rose knew each other in high school, though this isn’t a second chance romance. They both struggled with challenging family situations and coped quite differently which leads to some perception problems in their current situation. It takes a bit of time for barriers to be dropped and trust accepted. They make a great team…when Henry isn’t being overbearingly protective and Rose isn’t being stubborn! The push/pull of their relationship adds an extra zip to the developing romance.
Treachery, betrayal and rising danger create chaos and uncertainty, drawing Henry and Rose closer as they struggle to solve an impossible mystery. Love the way they draw on their faith in God during the toughest times. A poignant reminder that no matter what we face, He is right beside us all the way.
I listened to the audio edition of ‘Dangerous Montana Inheritance’ narrated by Emma Lysy and enjoyed the way her performance brought this story to life. Made for a compelling listening experience.
My thanks to Harlequin Audio and Net Galley for providing me with an audio copy of this book.
An expected inheritance has given Rose Balfour more questions than answers. She cannot quite figure out why this house was gifted to her. She has a lot on her plate these days as she awaits giving her testimony at a loan shark's murder trial. After arriving at the home, she realizes her life is in danger to add to her problems. That is until Henry Walsh steps in saves her. That first scene was awesome.
Henry Walsh is a former hostage negotiator. Rose only remembers him as the class clown, but those days are behind him now.
Someone wants the secrets of the past to stay buried forever, and Rose cannot figure out why or who is so determined to keep them hidden.
There is plenty of action and suspense. Nowhere is safe for Rose because someone with a score to settle is determined to keep the past where it belongs.
I enjoyed this book, but there was just something that I could not put my finger on that bothered me about it. I liked Henry, but Rose was not my favorite character. I guess it was her personality as a numbers gal, but she was almost unapproachable. The mystery was well written and kept my interest throughout the story. I partially solved the mystery early on, but I was still a little shocked to learn the full story. If you enjoy suspense, mystery and a whole lot of dangerous action, you will enjoy this one.
Thank you to Harlequin and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is the fourth book in the Big Sky First Responders series, but in my opinion, it works well as a standalone. I haven’t read any of the previous books in the series, yet I didn’t have any trouble following the plot or connecting with the main characters. The author does a good job of weaving in enough context to keep new readers grounded.
That said, I do feel like I may have missed out on some backstory when it comes to a few of the secondary characters. There were moments where their relationships or past experiences seemed to carry emotional weight that likely stems from earlier books. It made me curious about their journeys and, honestly, made me want to go back and read the previous book, I have a feeling those stories are just as good.
This story is full of mystery, suspense, drama, friendships, and more. It’s the kind of book that keeps you turning the pages, wondering what’s going to happen next, while also pulling at your heart with strong emotional moments and character bonds.
The characters were engaging, and the plot kept me interested. Fans of romantic suspense or small-town first responder stories will likely find a lot to love here, whether they’re long-time followers of the series or just jumping in for the first time.
I was given a copy of this book for my honest opinion.
I was immediately intrigued by this premise: Rose suddenly inherits a house that once belonged to a loan shark-no one knows why it was left to her. When she goes to claim it, her life is targeted, and just as things get desperate, a passerby, Henry, helps her. Twist: he's a former classmate who also happens to be a former Army ranger (I'm married to one, so brownie points for that).☺️
The story follows Rose and Henry as they try to escape the criminals and figure out why someone wants her dead. The pacing is excellent, the characters are likable (except the mafia, of course &), and the slow-burn romance between Rose and Henry is done so well. I also appreciated the Christian themes, which added depth without feeling preachy.
The only reason I'm giving this book 3.5 stars instead of 4 or 5 is that, while I really enjoyed the main characters, I felt that Rose and Henry's romance wasn't fully developed. There was something missing, and I couldn't completely connect with it. The multiple attempts on Rose's life also felt a little over the top and unrealistic at times. That being said, the book was still a solid, entertaining read with suspense, romance, and faith woven throughout.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing the ARC.
Dangerous Montana Inheritance by Jenna Night is a fast-moving romantic suspense novel. I enjoyed the swift pace and constant action, as Rose and Henry faced ongoing attacks. Rose and Henry are strong characters who must learn to trust each other to survive. I enjoyed the mystery. I collected the clues as I read, arranged the pieces, and arrived at a conclusion. I was eager to see if I had correctly identified the culprit (I love solving whodunits) and if they would get their just desserts. There is chemistry between Rose and Henry, but they need to survive if they are going to let the romance between them bloom. I liked how faith was woven into the story. Dangerous Montana Inheritance is the fourth book in the Big Sky First Responders series. I have not read the other books in the series, and I had no problem reading Dangerous Montana Inheritance as a standalone. Dangerous Montana Inheritance is the first book that I have read by Jenna Night, but it will definitely not be the last.
Dangerous Montana Inheritance is a fantastic, fast-paced, page-turner of a story.
When Rose and Henry reconnect under some dangerous circumstances, they're not exactly overjoyed. Memories of the past, along with the baggage they each carry, make their initial reconnect somewhat rocky. However, as one dangerous and unexpected happening after another keeps them together, things change. This results in a story of mystery and intrigue with a dose of romance that kept me glued to the pages, as I tried to figure everything out while watching the effects on Rose and Henry's relationship.
The characters are strong, and the storyline is engaging and captivating. The twists, turns, and romance, along with the themes of trust, second chances, and faith, make this fantastic story an absolute must-read.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book. All comments and opinions are entirely my own and voluntary.
A new-to-me author, Jenna Night drew me in with this engrossing suspense novel. Rose Balfour has inherited a house from a loan shark who was murdered. And interestingly enough - she is testifying at his murder trial! When she is accosted at the house, she escapes with the help of Henry Walsh, former hostage negotiator. Rose and Henry were classmates back in the day and have an interesting history. Henry is determined to protect Rose, but she has her own ideas! When attacks against her escalate, can they work together to find out who wants her silenced? After testifying, she believes the danger is in the rearview mirror, but things only intensify. Uncovering more evidence leads to a sinister plot and there doesn't seem to be safe refuge anywhere! Grab this next installment in the Big Sky series for an intriguing read!
I was gifted a copy of this novel by the publisher through NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions expressed are entirely my own.
Just finished this! It was a fantastic read! Wow! Action on every page turned. I loved every minute of it. A new to me author that I very much enjoyed. I loved the characters Rose and Henry. I thought they made a cute couple the minute I met them. They do have a few things in common. The inheritance part is what had me turning the pages. Lots of guessing and sleuthing. You'll be surprised at who it actually is! Wow! I really like that Rose asked the Lord God to help her and Henry through the mess they found themselves in. Why did the loan shark leave Rose his house? Well y'all will just have to pick this book up and read it for yourselves. 5 stars for a job well done and for making me feel like I was was a part of this story. I highly recommend My thanks for a copy of this book. I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine.
Attacked on the property she unexpectedly inherited, Rose Balfour barely escapes with the help of former hostage negotiator Henry Walsh. Rose is not sure why the local loan shark left her his home and now someone wants her dead. Henry is only in town getting his grandparents ranch fixed up for him to sell. Rose and Henry went to school together before he went into the military. Rose is supposed to testify in the loan sharks' trial and now her life is in danger. Henry and Rose are both attracted to each other, but she is planning to sell the house and move out of town and Henry is not staying here either.
Now that my heart has finished its excessive pounding from excessive danger, let me tell you about this marvelous Christian novel! Rose is confused as to why she has been chosen to inherit a deceased loan shark's home and is even more confused when the danger to her life starts immediately! Henry, a seasoned negotiator, come to her assistance, and she notices that he has changed, knowing him from their going to school together. Can the pair stay alive, to grow and discover if they each have something to offer the other? How the suspenseful plot continues and is resolves is yours to enjoy! I read this book compliments of the publishers. The thoughts expressed are my own.
This was a really good, interesting and quick read. This is part of the Love Inspired Suspense series, so it is more like a novella. Rose has inherited some property from a loan shark and she has no idea why. Her and Henry, a former hostage negotiator, team up to try to find the answer, and he also keeps her safe. Talk about action! There was lots of action in this novella! I loved the chemistry between Rose and Henry.
I received this book from the publisher through NetGalley for my honest opinion.
I just really enjoyed this book there was just so much going on. From the moment this book even starts there's something we are dropped in the middle of and to be fair it was hard to put down because you just kind of don't want to stop. So it appears when Rose inherited a house unexpectedly she inherited more than just that and the trouble seems to want to come after her thankfully she runs into Henry Walsh who was able to help her out in her time of need. Overall it's a really good book very fast-paced I really enjoyed it.
Dangerous Montana Inheritance by Jenna Night who was a new author for me. The 4th book in the Big Sky First Responders series, although I found this to be a good read I never really could get invested in the main characters of the story line. I would still recommend this book to others, because I realize not everyone enjoys the same books.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and publisher and I am leaving my review voluntarily.
This was my first experience with this series. Page-turning romantic suspense. Many exciting, nail-biting moments. A sweet second-chance romance. Many interesting characters. Had I read the prior books in the series it would have been a delight to revisit them. A delightfully quick read. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.
I speed read through this one and just could not connect. The setup had potential with danger, inheritance, and suspense but it never fully grabbed me. The pacing felt slow, the twists did not land, and I never felt invested in the characters. A few moments of action helped, but overall this book just did not hold my interest.
Henry and Rose's story is a clean read that is full of action, suspense, drama, mystery and romance. This book has a wonderful cast of characters and a well written plot that keeps you turning the pages and guessing until the end. I received a complimentary copy from Harlequin - Romance via NetGalley and was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Dangerous Montana Inheritance was a great page-turning story. It's about Rose Balfour and her weird inheritance from a loan shark, whose murder she witnesses and is set to testify in. Henry Walsh is a former negotiator who is determined to protect her. Even after testifying someone is still after her. But who?
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. This was an enjoyable romance and suspense book. I've never read this author before and I will look for more by her.
I enjoyed this book by a new to me, author. Old friends reunite when one of them is targeted. Someone is either trying to kill or capture Rose, but no one seems to know why. I was given a complementary copy of this book and the opinions are my own.
