An adequate commentary. Aune is clearly an expert on the relevant social and cultural context and on apocalyptic literature in general, but it, unfortunately, gets in the way of actual commentary. This 3-volume set could easily have been done in 2 by removing pages upon pages or irrelevant and unhelpful material. His critical methodology is also unsettling, even when helpful in analyzing key texts. I will be keeping it as a reference work, but it definitely could have been better.

This is the height of commentaries on Revelation in that its main purpose is to bring forth all the scholarly information about Revelation at the time of its writing. Unfortunately I did not get the feel for what Revelation is all about.
