If it were any kind of real option, she’d never look at his stupid, handsome face again.
If only they didn’t create magic every time they worked together.
As head writer for WAWGs latest hit show - it’s not actually finished yet, but she’s pretty confident - Charlotte has earned the right to have more control over the finished product than ever before. It’s even written into her contract!
Not that Nolan gives a damn about that.
He carries the title of showrunner, and the network brought him on for reasons that have nothing to do with lusting after Ms. Fox - he’s supposed to be keeping her in line and under budget.
If only her name weren’t so unfortunately accurate.
With production in full swing and pressure mounting, can Nolan and Charlotte figure out their usual alchemy, or will they have to finally handle their pesky sexual tension?
Charlotte is sick of Nolan. Every time she turns around, the straightlaced showrunner is breathing down her neck about script changes or budget cuts. Charlotte just wants to make good TV and she’s over his constant nitpicking. Nolan knows Charlotte is not a fan of his but, my guy is just following orders from the network executives. But, what she doesn’t know is, Nolan is fightin’ the good fight in the background and goin’ to bat with the network for Charlotte to make sure her show remains just that. Her show and her vision. I liked this book but, I was not a fan of that HFN ending. These characters had too much chemistry to leave their relationship up in the air like that. Ending the book with a will they or won’t they question mark just pissed me off. 🤬
Charlotte and Nolan make magical stories come to life. They have worked on several successful shows together despite their estranged relationship. Charlotte can't stand his arrogance and he is always in the wings trying to cut her budget or push changes from the network. She doesn't realize that he is really her advocate behind the scenes and does his best to make sure the essence of her story is in tact.
Eventually all that tension leads to sexual attraction. These two frenemies end up starting a friends with benefits situationship. However, it's clear that Nolan cares about her, wants to get to know her, and support her. However, it just ends abruptly and we don't know where any of this goes.
The last few shorts I've read from CCJ unfortunately have been unfinished. Not sure why closure isn't a priority despite the length...
Oh this was soo good! Very sweet romance that ends with a HFN. Which I will say HFN romances aren’t my fave but I enjoyed this one! I can’t wait to catch up with these two in another story! If you are looking for a short romance to dive into this was a good one!
The short takes are good. They make me want read more about the characters and the inside stories. Nolan was a piece of work, but he came through in the clutch for Charlotte. I liked the couples in each story.
Initial reaction: Strong 4 stars. Charlotte and Nolan turned out well but story definitely ended earlier than I was expecting. So much on set drama. I appreciated seeing glimpses of their families too.
Full review:
"Beyond the Screen" is the third book in Christina C. Jones's WAWG Studios series. This one had me a little worried to begin with because I didn't think I'd like the hero (Nolan) at all. It has to do with the circumstances of this workplace romance. Most who know me know that I don't gravitate towards workplace romances, especially lending for potential conflicts of interest, but somehow CCJ seems to pull me in with the chemistry and personality of her leading characters. Nearly every single time (few exceptions).
I actually really liked Charlotte from the get go. She's running a successful series as its head writer, very popular among its audience. But to say she's facing challenges behind the screen is an understatement. Part of that push is from the direction of Nolan - showrunner who is acting under orders by his direct supervisors to implement certain changes that don't go over well with Charlotte. Charlotte fights Nolan with words, and when they clash - oof. I could definitely tell these two were on fighting terms, very messy. But when their sparks start to fly, it works out better than I thought it would for their respective chemistry.
Think I felt the abrupt ending of this one more than the first two books in this respective series, but I can still give it a strong 4 stars for the audiobook narration (Wesleigh and Sharif - excellent work) and for the fact it had me rooting for them and seeing their respective families aside from the main story.
3.5 stars It took me a second to get into this one, and then once I was invested it was over! I really appreciated the mature characters. I just wanted more!
With so many things going on in her life Charlotte doesn’t need the watchful eye and annoyance that is Nolan on her all day everyday. She is the writer and executive producer of her show and she is sensitive about her ish. Nolan is just doing his job, watching the shows numbers, budgets and keeping the studio execs satisfied while enjoying being the annoying but successful show runner that he is. It doesn’t hurt that he has to be around someone that he thinks has beauty, brains and booty as well as talent. This all contributes to a very stressful, sometimes contentious situationship between the two of them. But when annoyance takes a backseat and attraction drives the sexual tension is intense. It’s only a matter of time before lines are crossed, intentions are blurred, and the question is asked - so what are we? I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The back and forth, the build up, the story, the sexy moments, the vulnerability, and the believable characters. CCJ always has the right mix to make for an awesome read!
“Beyond The Screen: WAWG Studios” was the better read of this series. Yet, this book as well as the series was still just mediocre. More so, it wasn’t the storyline I expected from a veteran Author 🤷🏾♀️‼️…Nonetheless, because this series had been on my TBR list for at least two years but was unavailable via my kindle unlimited subscription until recently. I indulged in the journey of three novellas uninspired & unfulfilled. Consequently, this experience was a bitter sweet🧐 revelation I’ve considered contemplated for a couple of years. …My expectation & acuity exceeds the CCJ’s 💐literary catalogue. It’s time, farewell ‼️
I enjoyed this novella and seeing Charlottes and Nolan give in to their attraction to one another. It made me laugh at how Nolan intentionally pushed Charlotte’s buttons to annoy her and with her always being on the defensive with him until that kiss and him helping her with her nephew got her to see him in a different light. I liked their push and pull and they left me wanting to know how things will continue to progress between them in the future. Will they fall in love or will they find out they truly don’t like each other outside the bedroom?
Okay so i had higher hopes for this series and i hate to say im glad im finished with it. I didn’t hate it but it wasn’t as great as everything else by CCJ. I love her and ima stick beside her, i just wanted more. I love/hate how this one ended but i do enjoy a nice “enemies” (subjective) to lovers trope. Even though they didn’t end up as lovers per se. Still an okay read.
I enjoyed getting an older couple in this installment. Nolan really did it for me. He seemed so masculine and sure of himself. I loved the way he stepped in and took care of things any time he saw that Charlotte had a need. While I did like revisiting the WAWG Studios, this book made me feel like we’ve run out of characters to feature. I think it’s a good time to put this series to rest.
The annoyance and banter are why I deemed this book my favorite. Charlotte Fox is passionate about her work which includes her latest work the tv show Kinfolks.. She defines she’s an artist and sensitive about her art. Nolan Brinkley is the show runner who’s responsible for ensuring the show Kinfolks is a network success.
Charlotte despises Nolan, but as time progresses does she still feels the same towards him. Good quick read.
*Tropes* Age gap Enemies to Lovers Unexpected surprise
The sexual tension between Charlotte & Nolan was inevitable. They didn’t like each other, more so her not liking him more, but you can sense the tension from the very beginning. Literally as I was reading I was like, “Girl quick playing with that man & just give it up!” lol it was a good short read, I feel like there should be more to the story but it was good. 3.75/5⭐️ 3/5🌶️
Definitely loved the banter between Charolette and Nolan. It was too cute! But all in all he really had her back even though he would have been considered her sugar daddy lol. I normally don’t like quick endings, but I actually liked the way Christina ended this. I think it was perfect for this type of story.
CCJ never disappoints. I loved the chemistry between Nolan and Charlotte. Nolan gave off zaddy vibes and I wasn’t mad about it considering the 8 yr age gap between my husband and I. This was a short cute read on my drive out of state and the ending was perfect enough to tease for the possibility of a longer book or to just leave it right there.
I did not like how this book ended. It was kinda of abrupt, but with the filming of the show ending, there was no need to prolong the non relationship of Nolan and Charlotte. I’m sure we will visit with them again.
Short but sweet. Love the “Hate-Love” stories. The writing flowed perfectly and anticipation of what will come in the future is exciting. Hopefully we’ll see more of Charlotte & Nolan in the future.
Charlotte and Nolan can definitely carry an entire book but this novella was short and cute. And let's be honest, its by one of my favorite authors so you knew it was going to eat!! Loved seeing how she was taking care of her nephew and wouldnt stand down to the executives.
This was good from beginning to end. I love my things progressed with them and was sad when it ended. I feel like their story could’ve continued. Overall, great addition to the series.
I mean it is Christina C Jones you already know when she publishes something it’s gonna be amazing. It’s gonna be a five star. This one was perfect short and cute. Quick read. I enjoyed it.
Wish we had a definite answer about their relationship. Also, what is an everything shower? Points off for inserting something that's not relevant to the culture.
Excellent read, I enjoyed the characters and storyline. Charlotte and Nolan’s journey was a short sweet. Their attraction growing attraction was fun and sexy.
