The world is awed when a glowing city drops from the sky, blocking out the sun. Dubbed the Heavenly Citadel, it’s thought to be a good omen. A blessing upon humanity.
For Elisheba, though, it brings a transformation — and a hunger — that she can’t explain.
Branded a witch, hunted by her husband, and abandoned by everyone she knows, she flees to the Black Woods. It’s not a host of angels she finds in the Heavenly Citadel’s shadow, though. It’s a camp of devils.
The devil’s commander knows Elisheba has been transformed into an immortal… something. Something irresistible, and when he claims her for himself, she’s dragged into a reality she never could have imagined.
Elisheba used to be human, but she’s not anymore. It’s not clear what she is now, but one thing she knows for She’s hungry, and the commander smells a lot like dinner.
Succubae is the first book in Queens of the Underworld, a RH sci-fi romantasy series. Featuring powerful demons, playful angels, tricksy vampires, a deceptively sweet incubi, a very hungry succubae, and a couple cats, just for fun. Why Choose, slow burn with high heat, forced proximity, touch her & die, besties before the resties, found family. Recommended for 18+. CW/ violence, gore, graphic injuries, and death, domestic violence/sexual assault.
A huge thank you to Adrienne Steele for the ARC of Succubae! This book is a thrilling ride through Elisheba's centuries-long transformation from mortal to powerful succubus. This book was also my first book that was Sci-fi read and Steele masterfully weaves multiple POVs and timelines, immersing the reader in Elisheba's journey of self-discovery as she grapples with her newfound powers and burgeoning desires.
Elisheba is an endearing and relatable character, even across centuries. Her journey is one of growth, as she learns to understand and control her abilities, ultimately embracing her true nature. The "why choose" romance aspect of this book is scorching hot, featuring a diverse cast of love interests: a grumpy and powerful demon (Lucifer himself!), a flirty and fiery angel named Xander, a suave vampire senator, and a sweet and devoted incubus. And that's just in book one!
The connections Elisheba forges with each of these men are unique and compelling, with varying degrees of burn. Steele expertly balances the romantic entanglements with the overarching plot, leaving the reader craving more. The playful banter and sizzling chemistry kept me hooked, and the elevator scenes? Pure fire! 🔥
While the initial setup was a tad confusing, with some sci-fi elements that weren't fully explained, the overall story quickly grabbed me. Perhaps a second read will clarify those points. Regardless, Succubae is an immersive and deliciously steamy read. If you love supernatural romance with a strong heroine, a harem of intriguing love interests, and plenty of spice, this book is a must-read. The cliffhanger ending has me on pins and needles for the next installment!
ARC Book Review 😇Succubae 😈 Book 1 of the Queens of the Underworld Series Written By: Adrienne Steele
Overall: 3.5/5 Overall plot: 4/5 Character development: 3.75/5 Pace: 3/5 World building: 3.5/5 Spice 🌶️: 3/5
Thank you Adrienne for letting me read this book ahead of the release date!
This is a multi POV and timelines of Elisheba where we follow her transformation from a mortal to succubae. She was human and over centuries, she still retains her humanity but learns to understand what her powers are, how to control them, and learn who she is and takes ownership of her desires
Her love interests span from a grumpy demon, Lucifer himself, a flirty fiery angel named Xander, a suave vampire who’s also a senator and a sweet and giving incubi and this is just book 1, which by the way leaves off in a cliffhanger!
The beginning of the read was a little confusing as to where it was set. There were sci-fi elements that I wasn’t sure if it had to do with setting up the storyline or not and by the end, I wasn’t sure if maybe I didn’t grasp it and it wasn’t really referenced back to. Maybe this is a me thing.
Overall, I’d recommend this book if you like to read about a “why choose” supernatural romance with angels, demons, vampires and lots of spice. 🌶️

✨𝓐𝓡𝓒 𝓡𝓮𝓿𝓲𝓮𝔀✨ 📖: Succubae: Queens of the Underworld, Book 1
I was lucky enough to beta read this last year and was blown away by the unique world building and blending of sci-Fi and paranormal fantasy elements wrapped up in a spicy why choose.
Will Elisheba find balance for her insatiable appetite and desires while finding her place in the world at last?

This story is told through multiple POVs and timelines and chronicles Elisheba’s evolution from mortal to succubae and her life at present day. Liz is such an endearing and self-deprecating character. Throughout the centuries, she’s come to understand her powers but never fully purses her desires.
The connections she forms with the love interests are unique and with varied burn speeds. Expect entanglements with a power hungry demon, flirty fiery angel, suave vampire, sweet incubi and who knows if any more are in store 👀. I cannot wait to see what happens next!
Succubae is an immersive and deliciously steamy why choose filled with intriguing characters, playful banter, and some of the most fun elevator scenes 🛗 I’ve ever read.
Huge thanks to the author for the ARC opportunity. This is my honest and voluntary review.
Wow this book, I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it. Just because I’m dyslexic, my brain was very confused and struggling to pronounce things. But then i got to where it tells you how everything is pronounced and my thoughts changed. Before I knew it i was at the end.
A small village has come to an end when aliens come to earth. But it’s not just aliens, they are angels and demons in a war. So what happens when Elisheba is caught in the middle of it. When her body changes and her husband wants her to burn for it.
liz (Elisheba) is one lucky woman. Who goes through a lot of change. But she is one lucky lady let me tell you. I would love to have the eye of an Angel and a devil.
luce is described deliciously. I was pitcureing just how he would look standing in front of me.
then Zander oof he is even more appetizing. Like good lord why are all these characters so sexy.
the ending of this book though. What a freaking cliffhanger. It can’t just stop there.
I am very thankful to Adrienne for giving me this book to read in return for my honest review
Intriguing start to a new paranormal romance series
I would give 4 ⭐️ for this book. It’s not the absolute best - especially the time jumps during the first quarter really detracted from my reading experience- but I really like the new take on all those paranormal species and how they came to be. As our FMC is the first succubae, she is part of all those important events and it really forms her character. I also like how different the MMCs are and how they can change their flaws. I am definitely looking forward to the next book as I need to see how the relationships continue to develop and, of course, due to the cliffy.
A glowing city falls from the sky blocking out the sun and the world looks on in awe at what they think is the heavenly citadel. Elisheba goes through transformation where she is hunted by her husband she flees to the black woods where she is expecting angels but what greets her is a camp of devils.
The commander knows she has transformed into an immortal to him she is irresistible and he claims her. Elisheba was once human. She is hungry and he smells like dinner.
This has demons, angels, vampires and a sweet incubus
It’s also the first in the Queen of the underworld
Well dang this took a wild and very good turn very. Elisheba was turned against due to being branded a witch but lil did anyone know she was far from that, she was something way better! She was a succubas. After going to the supposable omen and finding devils instead of angels her life took an amazing turn. Elisheba turn from mortal to immortal in this book was just WOW!! Adrienne Steele did an amazing job writing this book. She kept my attention the whole way through and I could not be happier. I am like a kid at Christmas over here waiting for book 2!!!
This was a unique spin in the tales and insight I know, and what is already written, of angels, demons, and other species aside from human. It brought so many interesting elements and worlds together while making me beg for what was going to happen next. I felt the frustration of the growth, but the journey is definitely worth it. The twists and turns, ups and downs, had me on the edge of my seat the entire time.
This story was not a genre I would typically read. However, when I read the blurb, I was intrigued. When I started to read, I struggled with the first few pages, but that was on me and not the author. By the time I had finished the 1st chapter, I was captivated. The story is so well written and contains intense characters. I definitely think this is worth a read if you get the chance.
This is my first book I've ready by this author and I didn't know what to expect but was quite pleased. It was a unique mix of different worlds and species combined. I always adore a strong mfc and loved ours in this story! I can't wait to read more in this series!
Arc review! Not normally my go to genre but I thoroughly enjoyed this!! Obsessed with the FMC! Can’t wait to read more of this series when it comes out!!!
Succubae Queens of the Underworld is a darkly captivating tale that blends rich, evocative writing with an intense character driven narrative. The imaginative use of language immerses the reader in a world both seductive and brutal, where words pulse with energy and atmosphere.
At the heart of the story is Elisheba, a formidable yet deeply conflicted FMC whose struggle both against external forces and her own nature makes for a gripping read. Her journey is fraught with tension, power plays, and moments of raw vulnerability, making her an easy character to root for. Steele crafts her story masterfully, ensuring that every triumph and setback resonates.
This is a richly written, compelling read that lingers long after you close the book. Highly recommended for those who enjoy dark romantasy with strong, complex heroines.
