When Jessica Sullivan’s K9 Teddy alerts on the scent of drugs in the plane of her high school friend, Logan Fletcher, her old suspicions of him rise to the surface. Eight years ago, Logan dated her best friend Ella, who died of a drug overdose. Logan has always maintained his innocence, but Jess isn’t entirely convinced. Until someone shoots at them while up on the mountain trail.
Charter Pilot Logan Fletcher abhors drugs as much as Jessica, but he does feel responsible for Ella’s death. Just not the way Jess believes. Still, when the shooter tries to shoot his plane from the sky, he realizes they’d stepped into something big and dangerous. And when Jessica is taken at gunpoint, he promises to do everything in his power to save the woman he loves.
First book I have read/listened to by this author, found it on audible for free. I liked the story of Sullivan family that do search and rescue with dogs.
This is a Christian romance suspense and has well done mystery, suspense, intrigue and action. There is romantic connection between the two MCs with kissing and growing closeness, they have a history as friends. Jessica Sullivan’s K9 Teddy is a real star in this book. He helps Jessica and Logan while they run from someone shooting at them. Lots of action and very fast paced, short book. Will definitely read more of this series.
Jam packed with action and super characters, especially the dogs!
Logan spots a piece of metal when he drops off a passenger for hunting and immediately thinks about the missing Sullivan parents' plane. So he flies out and gets Jess and her K-9 Teddy to hike in to see if it is part of the missing plane. But then Teddy indicates that drugs or a gun was used by a glove in Logan's plane! Shots are fired at them after they find the piece of tail from an airplane. They are constantly in danger while trying to figure out if this has something to do with the missing Sullivan parents or something else!
The pace is breakneck and the tone is intense with an action oriented storyline that has a few kisses. The characters are vivid and engaging. Teddy is a wonderful K-9 addition. The Christian ideals are woven into the story but not the main focus. This is a super addition to an exciting series that I recommend you read in order. You do meet Doug Bridges, a secondary character here, in Oath of Honor, another series by Laura Scott which is set in Milwaukee. There are many Milwaukee series. Here are those series in chronological order: SWAT Top Cop, Callahan Confidential, Finnegan First Responders, Oath of Honor and then this one set in Wyoming. The fun part of all of these is seeing familiar characters again! If you don't want to read all those, I would still recommend you read this series in order. Enjoy this romance with non-stop action, super K-9s and many wonderful characters.
Logan and Jessica have a history. They've known each other for years. Logan's high school girlfriend died of a drug overdose and Jessica felt, at the time, that Logan surely had some inkling that she was taking drugs even though he always maintained his innocence. She's held it against him all these years but mostly because she had a crush on him at the time! Now, years later, Logan helps out Jessica's family's business from time to time and they are somewhat friends. Logan has always loved Jessica but knows their past will always get in the way from taking things further than friends. However, he would love to help her find the airplane that crashed and killed her parents. He's a pilot and while dropping off a client, he spots a piece of wreckage so asks Jessica to go with him to check it out. That begins a nightmare as they are chased, shot at, pursued and have to camp out in the wilderness! I like these characters! I especially like the K-9s that belong to the Sullivan family and show their amazing talents! Teddy is Jessica's K-9 and he's a drug-sniffing dog although he does other great things! There is a lot of action in this story. I enjoy having the previous characters from the first books in the story continue to pop up in these books too!
Unfortunately, I’m finding an awful lot of repetition in this series. The same commands are repeated over and over again to the dogs, including multiple commands to defecate. Once in the book is fine but repeating the same things over and over again became irritating over time. I would have preferred to read more character development between the actual people in the story and not all about the dogs. The writing style is quite good but the plots in this series leave a lot to be desired. Since it was pretty much the same thing happening in all the books in the series so far I’ve decided not to continue reading the other books as I’m sure at this point they will all be the same. I’m disappointed because she really is a talented author but these were a miss for me.
Jess and Logan have had a strained relationship since Ella died, but these new threats and resulting case, force them to spend time together. Whilst I don't love them being in danger, I do love that this time allows them to discuss the history that sits between them and allows them to move forward....together! As always her K9 is the true hero, Teddy saves them time and again. We get fantastic news for the family at the end of the book and I look forward to joining the Sullivan's again soon.
I dived into he middle of this K-9 Search and Rescue series but I didn't feel lost. The Sullivan siblings are the heart of the series - as is their Search and Rescue Center but each book features a different sibling and their K-9 partner. In 'Scent of Peril', it's Jess and her 'good boy' Teddy who team up with pilot Logan for what turns into a lethal game of cat and mouse. Tons of action, plenty of danger and wilderness survival scenes made this romantic suspense and real page turner.
The story was enough to get me to the end of the book, but I feel like it was rather predictable. One small thing that bothered me was the misinformation that skin contact with fentanyl can kill. That's not true, but one use of it can be lethal. I'm not sure what facts were verified at the writing of this story. The narrator of this series misread pronouns and a few other blips that jarred me out of the story. Otherwise, it was a nice read to listen to while I worked.

Scent of Peril was a fast-paced read with suspense, danger, and romance. Jess and Logan's relationship has been strained after Ella's death. However, when they end up in danger, they use this time to not only try to elude the bad guys but also to clear the air between them in order to move forward. The plot was great, the characters were awesome, and I enjoyed the Sullivans' dogs
Logan finds the tail of a plane and flies to the Sullivan ranch! Do not get a chance to see if the plane could be part of the plane the Sullivan parents were on! Drug dealers attack and interfere with looking into the plane that went down! Does Teddy save the day?
Action packed Christian novel. So easy to fall in love with the Sullivan family especially the rescue dogs. The family all have a clear relationship with God but their relationship develops through the story. I love the way they all support each other The series is all inter linked but each can be read alone.
This is a very entertaining book with enjoyable characters who are smart, loyal, and intuitive, including the K-9s!! The book has suspense and action along with a clean romance. The story kept me involved and has a nice pace to it along with a happy ending.
Another excellent suspense novel from the Sullivan family. This one featured Jess , Logan and her K-9 Teddy. He is an expert dog that not only does search and rescue but is used to detect drugs, ammunition and guns.. Really well written. Enjoy!
Just finished this third book in the series. Enjoyed as I always do with her books. I am fascinated about the animals and what they can do. Can’t wait for the next book.
He is a very smart dog, doesn’t give up and loves to play with his ‘mama’. Jessica depended on Teddy nearly as much as he depended on her. Can you imagine meeting Teddy and then his owner/handler? And this is Logan’s story with these two. Enjoy it.
Yep. Loved it! Getting to know this amazing family of rescuers and their K9s is so much fun. Also helps challenge my faith as I read their life experiences and challenges. Teddy sounds so snugly, I just want to hug him!
This book is another great story by Laura Scott. She is rapidly becoming one of my favorite authors and I am already reading the next in this series. She really knows how to write a good story with engaging characters that you can relate to. Enjoy!!
A Christian Author but not over the top. She writes an excellent suspense story so worth a read and I'm a sucker for stories with dogs playing an important role in them.
Jessica Sullivan has always suspected Logan Fletcher had something to do with her best friend’s death from an overdose years earlier. After all, they were saying at the time. How could he not know Ella was doing drugs. When Jessica’s dog alerts on drugs found in Logan’s plane, Jessica is sure she’s for the proof she needs to nail him despite his insistence that he’s innocent in Ella’s death and in the case of the drugs found in his plane. Then someone shoots at them and Jessica starts to,wonder if she’s been wrong about Logan all along.
