CAIN, the biblical Cain, just arrived in Hell and already he is struggling to come to terms with the abuse that he suffered. Mazi is a wandering soul, not sure of who she really is. The day she met Cain set course a chain of events that led her down an unexpected path. When she realizes how hurt Cain is, she wants to help him, heal him but he has to let her and she's willing to wait a lifetime if it means that she is his safety net. When he finally opens up, she realizes that he is incredibly strong, and nothing will deter the protective nature she has for him and his secrets. That and the truth of her past, finally collides with Cain's own chaos, leading them both to self-discovery that they both didn't see coming.

How refreshing is it to read a book that deals with abuse from a man's perspective! Cain, in this amazing retelling of the biblical story, suffers a whole life of sexual, physical and emotional torture and through this story he recovers through finding his fated lover (happens early on so not much of a spoiler!) And the last showdown with the FMC HELL YEAAAAAAAH!
Alex Upchurch has a phenomenal amount of knowledge in mythology and religion and combines it with an amazing amount of creativity and plot twists, even adds in a smidge of humour, particularly loved her mention of ice cream and cookies in a supposed pre-mankind era! Loved it!

Cain by Alex UpChurch is the second book in the Warped Beginning Series. Cain is beautifully written and highlights men's mental health. Readers follow the story of Cain and Mazi and their quest for truth, love, and healing.
