The writing just didn’t feel right. There was a lot of telling rather than showing and when that happens very early on in the story it’s hard not to watch out or be conscious about it throughout the read.

I reckon it needs more polishing and revising.

Infuriating on many levels.

There are so many things wrong here. The premise was great.
The character development needed a little work. But that wasn't what ruined this.
I do not recommend reading this book.
Spoiler ahead.

Okay, so a fifteen year old, the younger sister of one of the main characters, is assaulted, becomes pregnant, has a baby she does not want raise. The only support person in her life who's not a dying old woman pressures her into keeping and raising the baby, despite her flat-out refusing. Then, instead of putting a perfectly healthy white baby up for adoption for any one of hundreds if not thousands of waiting families and rallying around the traumatized child she already abandoned in an abusive situation once, the older sister guilts the victim/survivor, then chooses to raise the baby over showing up for her sister, despite not even particularly wanting a baby at that point in her life, and the 15 year old not having any other options for a place to go.
So, quite reasonably, the 15 year old kid with no support system runs away.
When she resurfaces, she's treated like a pariah.

The other main character is an adult film star. She's proud of her career, then not proud of it alternatly. Okay, i can buy that. She decides she wants out. Okay, fine. She gets, seemingly out of the blue, an offer for the lead role in a normal non xxx indie film. Steamy scenes, but not xxx stuff, like, its going to be in film festivals. For some unknown reason she's conflicted about this, and when she tells her recently rekindled love interest, she doesnt tell her its a normal movie. At any point. Then she bails in the middle of film as if its some sort of grand gesture for her gf who doesn't seem to care?
And telling the kid instead of just introducing his bio mom as the aunt is stupid. Hes ten. Why put him through all that????

This was horrible. Katie wasn't very smart, and couldnt tell the difference between a fake steamy scene in a normal movie and porn. Sarah was a trash sister and behaved irredeemably.
I didnt want anyone to get a happy ending except the young get sister. Everyone else was stupid and shallow. I guess Cathy (the bff) was fine.
