I'm trying to think of something positive about this book, and all I can think is that the writer is a kind person, because the book feels like kindness itself.
But the story's pacing is awful, and you have to read more than 20% to get to a mention of the protagonist. And then he, Zane, is not such a great hero because he basically did nothing for most of the book, even while Lauren is captured and held by the evil enemy.
It's a terrible story (structurally, creatively and basically on every level) but I can't bear to give it a 1 because I can tell the writer is genuine. Maybe he just needs a better translator. And a good book on story writing.

My main complaint with this book is that it is ‘told’ instead of ‘shown.’ Very few characters have proper names. Zane comes across as almost emotionless, especially in the battle scenes. What redeems this book is Zane finding the courage to rebel against a seemingly superior foe.
