It’s 1923—four years after the last in a series of grisly killings in Floodwood Station, Ohio. The residents of the small coal mining town are unaware their peace is about to come to a brutal end.
Following the mutilation of several local victims, Nathaniel Holt, an ambitious Dayton Daily News reporter, doesn’t just cover the story; he begins his own investigation.
Nate welcomes the distraction. He finds his new acquaintance, Julianne Babcock, every bit as stubborn and argumentative as she is attractive and bright. Despite the friction between them, he thinks about her more than he wants to admit.
With newspaper photographer Gordon Driscoll in tow, Nate tracks down accounts of largely unpublicized animal attacks going back years across Ohio. The information leads them to Floodwood Station—the site of the first horrific attack.
The town may hold the answer to the monstrous killer’s identity, but the residents have a secret they guard with a vengeance.
Nate seeks help from a reluctant Julianne Babcock. Floodwood Station’s favorite former schoolteacher has returned to her hometown to care for her estranged father.
In the midst of Nate’s newspaper-sponsored investigation, the nightmarish killings begin again.
The fiction was very old fashioned and fit well with the times of the new time culture. But having a flare to be wrote like it was made for Black and White TV.
I hope there’s another book. I liked the ending being open. I wasn’t fond of the quickness of a few “loose ends” so to speak and how the antagonist became a werewolf was missing. Otherwise a good read, just as good as the first installment.
Very impressive sequel to The Horror Within, and I am picky about my werewolf stories. My favorite scary moment was Julie and Emily getting the car stuck on a lonely road after dark. Gives me the chills! Certainly hope we hear more from all these characters, pleeaasse!
