Heroes Kneel by Alex W. Foley unpacks God's concept of a hero and what it takes to live like one. Foley puts famous Old Testament characters under the microscope to reveal the poison of selfishness, the power of servanthood, and how Jesus has been the Way from the beginning.

The first half of this book is an enjoyable read that brings deeper context to the most prominent persons in the Old Testament. The second half takes a deep dive into Hosea and completely opened my eyes. What once was a confusing story has now become one of the most impactful books of the Old Testament. Heroes Kneel is a well-written, multipurpose book that can be read cover to cover, studied in a small group, or used to dive deeper into the Word. The author does an incredible job of flooding the pages with relevant scripture whilst organizing it in a way that’s simple and effective. Whether you’re a lifelong Christian or questioning the truth of the Bible, this book is a profound and transformative read.
Great book for a deep study of God in the Old Testament with a focus on the book of Hosea. This is not a quick read, but encourages doing some digging. The book is filled with lots of interesting footnotes and some fun trivia thrown in. Part 1 is filled with stories of the Old Testament leaders who were called “My servant” by God Himself. Part 2 focuses on the book of Hosea and how we see God’s example of servant love and see Jesus in this story. In the author’s words this book, “is a down-to-earth quest to better know Jesus and cheerfully serve just like Him. Because the closer we draw to Him, the less selfish we become.”
