Intermediate Graphic Novel
Copyright: 2014
Age: 8-12
Grade: 3 – 6
True graphic novel.

I really enjoyed the plot, text, and graphics of this book. There are up to six, very colorful, busy panels on each page. Some pages have a large background picture with smaller panels on it to give a different visual of how to see the story. It does not make the story hard to follow, but gives it a little variety to make it visually interesting. There are more text bubbles because there are more characters and this gives each character an individual presence.
This book will have a great appeal to those students who like the video game. Besides the intermediate level, some younger and older students may want to read it because of that appeal. It just depends on your reading level.
I would most definitely use this book for a book bundle and try to hook those reluctant readers with it. If students are knowledgeable and like the game, they may jump at the chance to read this book.
There are not any cautions for educators. It is well written book with a fast paced, adventurous plot. Add in the fact that there are beautiful graphics and you have a great book! Surprisingly, I really liked reading Skylanders.

Read this book for the son of a friend at a BBQ this weekend. Seems to be something the kids are really into. Happy to see that the art was done by Ron Marz; if you are not aware of his run on Green Lantern I would encourage you to look it up! But back to Skylanders, a book I really enjoyed reading, because it is always great to see small children get excited about reading!

*I received this comic as an eARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review*

So I know that the Skylanders video game was created with younger children in mind, but I'll confess that I loved the idea of the game and bought into it as soon as I could. We have most of the characters from the first game (Spyro's Adventures), and are always looking for the rest to complete our collection. Since then, there have been 3 new games, all complete with their own collection of characters and objects with their own special abilities and powers. As this can become an incredibly expensive game series, I haven't played any of the games since the first one. But I knew that I wanted to read the comic as soon as I saw that it existed!

This comic is pretty much what I expected it was going to be. It's cute and fun and exciting, and it brings all of the characters (or at least a good majority of them) into a different medium.I think Kaos is a hilarious villain, because he's just so bad at being bad. And he's just all around funny looking, so it was really fun to see him in this capacity.

I also enjoyed reading about the Skylanders and their new school and all of the little baby Skylanders - Weereuptor is so cute! I recognized most of the characters from the first game, but there were also new characters that made me interested in the newer games. Not enough to go buy them, of course, but I'm still interested in learning more about them!

I would definitely recommend this comic to anyone who has played any of the Skylanders games, and especially to any kids who are as obsessed with this game as I am! I think it would make the most sense if you've played the Trap Team game, but any knowledge of the Skylanders is good enough to enjoy this fun little story. The artwork is cute, the story is feel-good and exciting, and I thought it fun to see the characters in a new setting. I'd give this a 3/5 because I think it's a little young for me, but still good for kids just getting into comics!

'Skylanders: The Kaos Trap' is a spin-off comic based on the popular toys and video game. It's definitely aimed at a younger demographic than me, and I think it largely succeeds.

Being unfamiliar with the Skylanders, I was still able to jump in fairly quickly and determine that the Skylanders are the good guys and Kaos is their nemesis. He's out to stop them in any way possible. There are three issues in the graphic novel. The first story leads into the second one, but it's a bit of a rough transition. The second and third present a bigger story arc. Kaos is pretending to be one of the young Skylanders, so he can get into their Skylanders Academy and cause problems. Flynn is flying all the young students off to school, but gets his memory wiped when he runs into Kaos disguised as Weeruptor, Flynn walks off the plane and has to be rescued. Will Flynn be okay? Will Kaos' plan work?

Certainly, it's a commercial for toy and game products, but it's still mildly fun. If I knew the game at all, I could tell you if they get it right. I can tell you it's written by Ron Marz who has done work on Green Lantern and the Batman/Aliens series. Art by Mike Bowden and David Baldeon seems to be in keeping with the look of the product. If I were 8 or 9, I'd probably think this was pretty cool.

I was given a review copy of this graphic novel by Diamond Book Distributors, IDW Publishing and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

We received this book via NetGalley. K loves Skylanders it is like the best thing around, and I have to say I love the characters. They are all pretty cool so when I saw that this book was up for review I knew I had to get it to read to K.
Loved the story being as it is in comic book form this is our first comic book type story we have read together the illustrations were greatly done that they attract you to the book. The reason that this is getting 3 stars is because one it seemed to say end and then the story would continue. I didn't understand that. It was all one big comic story but why was the word "end" written after so many pages? Also it seemed to jump with the story. When it would say "end" there would be another story yes it all went together but it seemed that it is missing something to connect them.
Second, the writing it was really really hard to read on the nook color. I found myself squinting my eyes constantly and bringing the book up to my face. I think that the author needs to change the size of the font. Also the color of the text. When Master Eon would talk his text is in a bright blue which makes it hard to read.
If these things could be changed I can change my review up to a 4.

I received a copy of this book from the publishers via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I reasonably enjoyed this cartoon, having just read the new Angry Birds comic I felt a little disappointed though. The illustrations are gorgeous - really bright, interesting and fun. However, the story really lacked. It just felt too cyclical and it wasn't really that interesting either. There seemed to be too much interest in fighting and that's just not my cup of tea! It would entertain boys in particular, and I feel this was their intended target audience. I feel as though I may not appreciate this as much as others who may have played the games associated with the series but the story still just wasn't particularly interesting.

Skylanders are a HUGE DEAL in our house, so I was really excited to find this title on Netgalley! (Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this one!)

My six year old LOVED the comics, she was begging to just read the whole thing - and I'm glad it's something she can entertain herself with too! The illustrations are fun, the comic strips are great too! The book does feel a bit discombobulated as far as continuity between the different comics go, but it's obviously meant as a comic so I'm not going to complain too much!

All in all? If your house is Skylanders Obsessed like mine? This is a must read!

I received the copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

The artwork was great. But for me, it sorta a combination between X-Men (with the academy and the manor-school building) and Digimon Adventures (the creatures were adorable and powerfull, some of 'em looked like the digimons that I've ever know). The story itself was not interesting me, coz nothing new in it. But I can imagined how interesting for some battles to be played in the videogame. Maybe for some reasons, let a game be a game.. IMO.

The characters in the novel are great. The story line is straight forward. The illustrations are excellent! This story is related to the game but has a new story for those that play the video game. I think it would be a great way to get kids to become interested in reading. A fun, good book overall.

This was an amusing read; this is a book for children ages 4 to 10. The book is full of adventures for the Skylander heroes as they protect the Skylands and thwart the evil Kaos.

This is a great book for children learning how to read, the dialogue is simple and the graphics are colorful and captivating. The characters are very amusing; so I definitely recommend this book to parents who want to get their little ones into reading.

This may appeal to fans of the animations but it didn't to me, sorry! The comic format is brilliantly created and the overall story is clear but it does jump about a bit and I'm afraid it somehow just missed keeping my attention or interest, but that might be because I'm an adult and not a child!

Got this from NetGalley. It was my first foray into the world of Skylanders. The art was great and the concept was cool, but I was pretty bored with the plot and the mandatory backstory every few pages.

The inside story is much better then the cover would leave me to believe. I put it in front of the ultimate test (my nephew and my dad who are obsessed with Skylanders). They gave it a thumbs up.
