The Old Fox: A Tom Miller Spy Thriller

The year is 1982. Nearly three years after the American Embassy in Tehran was overrun by government-backed protestors, and fifty-two American hostages were taken, student protestors in Iran once again attack a Western embassy. Forty years after the events in Tehran and West Berlin, ex-SAS officer Tom Miller, now working in MI7’s Black Ops unit, receives a call from an Iranian terrorist group about an impending terror attack. The call changes everything the British Government and its security services thought they knew about Russian and Iranian efforts to infiltrate and destabilise British society through disinformation, cyber warfare, and state-sponsored terrorism. It also forces Tom to confront events from forty years ago that changed his life in ways that he could never have imagined.
Soon Tom Miller finds himself battling not only Russia’s infamous foreign and military intelligence services, the SVR and GRU, and Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, but also those who were responsible for what happened in Tehran and West Berlin in 1982 and who will stop at nothing to avenge the actions of the Old Fox.

I enjoyed this story which i would describe as an espionage mystery thriller. Tom Miller was a very likable character and I was really invested in the his life and solving the mystery of his origins. (side note I loved how devoted he was to his girlfriend)
the narration was really good for all the characters. im glad I listened because many several key characters in the storyline had Arabic or Persian names that trip me up when reading in print.

Not a genre that I would usually like but I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed this book! It’s up to date, brilliantly written as to keep you guessing, I was completely hooked and hopeful of a follow up! I would highly recommend this book even if you think it’s not for you. Trust me it is well worth a read!

Wow the author packed in as much action as I normally encounter in two novels. The action was realistic and plausible. The locations varied widely and the loose affiliation of adversaries was credible. I listened to the audio book version and it was excellent. Highly recommended.
