Sadie Hawkins thought her toughest challenge was keeping her small freight business afloat—until her best friend, Tanya Woods, is arrested for murder. With the police convinced Tanya is guilty, Sadie attempts to prove her friend's innocence before it’s too late. As Sadie launches her own investigation with her crew, they use their special skills and step outside the law to uncover dark secrets tied to StreetSmart; Tanya’s workplace that provides a support system for rehabilitated young adult offenders. While her search for the truth intensifies, Sadie and her associates find themselves in a dangerous web of betrayal, lies, hidden motives, and vengeance. With her business at risk, her trust tested and best friend on the line, Sadie must rely on both her instincts and the loyalty of those around her as she strives to find the killer. However, in a world full of secrets, even friends can become enemies and the truth might be more than she can handle.

My stories are filled with wit, intrigue, and unexpected turns — whether it’s the Sadie Hawkins Mysteries, where entrepreneurial spirit meets murder, or my Daughters of the Crescent Moon series, where ancient worlds collide with modern hearts.

Determined Sadie and this mystery grabbed my attention from the beginning. While I was a little disappointed that the opening situation which grabbed me was never resolved in this installment, the main mystery revolving around Sadie's best friend being arrested for murder was wrapped up nicely.
I felt the pacing of the story was excellent. The characters were interesting. A few situations felt somewhat unrealistic but nothing completely over-the-top. It is a difficult to provide specifics without also giving spoilers, however Sadie's method of obtaining an enormous amount of bond money for her friend's jail release was just one instance.
Although events from the first book in series are mentioned here and there in this second book, it wasn't often, nor did it make me feel lost that I read book two of the series without reading book one first. I received an advance review copy of Idle, book two in the series, for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. I plan to go back and read the earlier installment simply because I really enjoyed this mystery.
This was a new author for me . And I am glad i took the time to read this mystery. I enjoyed this book and liked Sadie's character. She's extremely loyal to her friends and she goes the extra mile for truth and justice. This story had one surprise after another for me and i enjoyed the roller-coaster ride. While I was a little disappointed that the opening situation which grabbed me was never resolved in this installment, the main mystery revolving around Sadie's best friend being arrested for murder was wrapped up nicely.I look forward to reading more from this author and series. This is a connected book to the authors first book in the series, First Gear but this defintly be read as a stand a lone book. Enjoy Lisa
I liked Sadie's character. She's extremely loyal to her friends and she has the tenacity of a pit bull terrier. She goes the extra mile for truth and justice. This story had one surprise after another for me. The twists kept coming ready or not. When the whole ball of wax started to melt and unwind and the secrets started falling out, I was aghast!!
I didn't see it coming, and it was a doozy. What an adventure! I voluntarily read a free copy of this book provided by book sirens and am giving an honest opinion.
This was such a fun read! It takes place in Houston and I lived south of Houston for a while and I always enjoy reading stories that take place where I've lived. The characters are fun and colorful and definitely left me wanting more of them! Trying to cast the characters has been difficult but I think the more I read, the more I'll figure them out!
