In this life, blood doesn’t just sustain you, it defines you.
At ten years old, one drop changed my whole world, and not just because I lost my freedom, my parents, and my memories all in one night. My life is now bound to another. My blood kin, whose cursed fate is dependent upon my own.
After being held captive for over a decade to protect someone I’ve never met, I’m now thrown into a new world.
Trinity Falls Academy is an opportunity to secure my future. Like life’s cruel guillotine, the curse shatters at twenty-one years old, and only one kin can make it to twenty-two.
I have one year to navigate the murky path set before me. One filled with supernaturals I didn’t know existed. Hidden among the humans are vampires, wolves, and witches.
The chalice will determine my quadrant, just like everyone else from Florentines. The only issue is, quadrants don’t mix, unless it’s a full moon party… So why am I caught under their intense gaze in the dining hall, the secret garden, and the fighting cage too?
The Savage Six is a why choose romance series, with four books expected.
The fact that one of the werewolf MMC’s couldn’t recognize the MFC because she died her hair from silver to black and wore a tiny bit of makeup… 💀💀💀 (ohh and everyone else could tell it was her, just not him). Like bruh where are your wolfy senses at?! 👃
I picked up this book because I thought the idea of a blood kin curse sounded interesting. However, the plot didn't move. Like, at all. Once we made it to the academy, I think 1-2 weeks passed. I found myself skimming from 60% on due to the lack of plot and character development.
I think I have to toss in the towel with this author as her books are SO VERY formulaic and she takes A LOT of "inspiration" from other places.
For example, see if you can guess the original source material from these books elements: * Magical Academy * Four Houses * Magical grounds * A MC who had a poor upbringing and is full of wonder for the world * A sorting ceremony * The sorting ceremony has an enchanted goblet
The men were also very formulaic and it's getting predictable with the "bullying" in all of Kean's work.
Kean also doesn't listen to her editors as I am sure they have tried to correct how she types out terms of endearments, but she refuses to grow as a writer. There were A LOT of comma splices in this manuscript as well.
There is a note from the author in the back of her book that states that this is the first time she is writing a novel where the FMC doesn't start off as strong, and I was very confused by that statement. None of her FMC's are strong; they are all weak willed, physically deficient, and suffer from intense bouts of body betrayal syndrome.
Probably more of a 3 but gave it a bump for the creative start to the main storyline. Hoping there is more personal development in the upcoming books ☺️
DNF 28% I'm shelving this one for now. I *may* try it again one day, but right now I just really don't like anything about it. The FMC is so blah I can't even explain. She's withdrawn, depressed, anxious while also being completely rude and boring. The writing in the book is okay, but there are both typos and a serious lack of world building and descriptions. I honestly have no clue what this girl looks like beyond having silver hair. Nor do I know what her 'friend' S looks like, the boy T that she spent time kissing and touching looks like, nothing. The most descriptive she got was 'the most gorgeous face I've ever seen'. Great, that really helps, thanks.
The idea of the book is intriguing but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. So much so that I think I'll go find someone that can write a book properly executed, and maybe come back to this one when I'm desperate.
I really wanted to love this book but it just kind of fell short for me. The premise drew me in, but then characters and plot were just kinda meh for me. I wasn’t really a fan of Polaris or any of her potential guys and I didn’t really see a connection between them. I’m also just not personally a fan of the whole innocent, feeble fmc trope but that’s just me🤷♀️ I did enjoy the world that this takes place in, it’s very similar to Zodiac Academy which is one of my all time faves. The magic system was also fun and I liked how there were vampires, shifters and witches in it. Overall this was a good read but I was just really hoping it would be great because I loved the premise so much!
*Reverse Harem *Paranormal *Multi-1st-PoV *Academy Setting *Mixed Supes *Innocent FMC *Curses *Established Harem (3?) *Mid Burn *Book 1/4 Curses, challenges, and captivating characters! There’s a great balance in this book between an intriguing story and a variety of characters that draws you in and keeps you reading 😁 Polaris is our FMC, forced to be a loner and struggles to connect with others, but is desperate to find an element of hope! 🥺 She believes she is a human has her whole world awakened when she’s transported to Trinity Falls Academy. Upon discovering the supernatural world she has several things to unearth 1) what she is 2) how to awaken her powers 3) who can she actually trust and most importantly one question all that students need to uncover - is there a way to undo the blood curse?!?! She also seems to have garnered the attention of the alpha pack, they each feel some kind of connection to her - Lincoln just seems fascinated, with Tatum is a kindred spirit and with Wylder is a friends with more 🔥 as P finally lets her walls down she also makes her own friendships - however it appears these might all be in jeopardy after that cliffhanger 😮
Horrendous writing style in addition to the overly dramatic internal reactions, but it’s an interesting premise.
We just don’t need ten paragraphs of panic over getting tripped. Get up.
There are a lot of repetitive things like ‘rubbing her lips together’ being mentioned fifteen whole times. It doesn’t sound like a lot, but it sure felt like it. ‘Lips’ alone are mentioned 160 times. Seriously. I checked.
The pacing and structure of sentences make them a hard read. Speaking of a hard read, Disney World smut? Really? I’ll never look at log flume seats the same.
It gets to the point where you know that both you and the author have completely lost the plot but decided to stick it out anyway.
It’s so funny to me when a curse needs broken and the glaringly obvious solution is one that an interspecies think tank, that defied their prejudice to collaborate, somehow hasn’t deduced in 400 years.
If you want something similar to ZA this is it! Now it didn’t capture me as fast as ZA but I’m intrigued. It did leave off on a cliffhanger so I want to dive into the next. The FMC is a bit soft but I feel she’s going to be a badass. Also I think second book will hit more than the first.
I have a love hate relationship with reading a book where im like “yeah im not gonna continue this series” then the book gets me at the end and now i gotta pick up the next book to see what happens… 😭 that’s what happened here
3 stars only because I wasn’t emotionally invested until about the 70-80% point. But now? -Love Wylder -Love Tatum -Love Bryony (but also confused by the name?) -Love the idea of her and the wolves -Excited by her potential power -Intrigued by Blake. Ain’t no way he’s tall, dark and handsome for no reason.
ok ... so the story was really pretty good, probably a 4 stars, however, the writing and MFC were just FRUSTRATING.
as I'm writing this, I remember commenting something similar with the last Kean series I read. I think it's the way Kean dispenses information. She teased you with something, but then it's not followed up on immediately, as if it wasn't a super important piece of information.
Furthermore, the MFC is so unsure of herself. She's always looking down, blushing, not being able to answer questions or defend herself. It was beyond frustrating.
The storyline though leaves me wanting more. Kids are kidnapped because they had the misfortune to be blood tied to someone more powerful than them. (only one will survive after they turn 21) They are then sent to live out their days in a padded room until it is time for them to die. well, the laws changed and these institutions were forced to give them a year to try to prove themselves the better bloodkin, even though they've been totally disadvantaged. This book is Polaris trying to release her magic and prepare for something (I'm pretty sure the reader is never told what that is) in hopes she will survive and her bloodkin will be the one to succumb to the curse.
This is a new world by a much loved by me author and this first book in the series did not disappoint!
P was taken from her bed at 10 year old, right after doing the test to know who her blood kin was. She then spends the following 10 years in a grey prison, where the memories from her past are stripped from her and she knows only cruelty.
But when a girl in her year group has her birthday everything changes and she gets transported to Trinity Falls Academy, where she finds out that magic is real and she's actually a witch, a werewolf, a vampire or a human descendent from magic beings...
But when her trust keeps getting broken by the few people she dares to trust, will she actually be ablet to survive the blook kin curse?
Loved P and loved her strenght, even in the midst of insecurities! And by now I should really know that the author knows how to make us suffer with a cliffhanger! I mean, did anyone actually see that coming????!
I mean, it's been days since I've finished the book and I still find myself thinking I need to pick it up so I know what happens next!
I wish I could have liked this book more, the premise is genuinely interesting with the blood kin curses, but where oh where was the plot? It barely moved! There was some real ridiculous miscommunication /misunderstanding moments like the fact one of the leading men couldn’t recognise her with different coloured hair when everyone else clearly could. It was hard to root for anyone when it came to relationships, there was just insta-lust everywhere. Don’t even get me started on the coven stuff, I’m not even sure what was so bad about what they were doing, maybe I missed something. This is just my opinion and I imagine there are people that loved this book, it definitely has an audience, but that just wasn’t me. Maybe the intended age is a little off. The spiciness would dictate an older audience but it feels very young in its storyline (a bit too middle school drama). However the prose was decent and the premise has potential.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
SNOOZE. This was a fab premise, which was never fleshed out. All the lore was just a vague notion that semi impacted the story, but never actually seemed to matter. I couldn't stop seeing this as a cross over of Harry Potter (sorting hat and dinner hall) with divergent (factions that don't mix but ofc the FMC is the one they mix with!!). This has been done before 10000% better, and there's no reason it was over 500 pages long when nothing happened!
DNF at 44% Stop «gaping» every other page. Please. Please edit. Also, who rubs their dry lips together. Pretty sure I do that exclusively when I put on lipstick or lipbalm. Cannot tell if the story would be bad or good, I’m too annoyed. The FMC seems extremely traumatized. I just don’t want to read this. And that’s really annoying, cause the whole ‘blood kin’-thing seems interesting.
From page one, the story pulls you in. At no point do we know who to trust, what bigger elements are at play or where things are going. The entire story is riveting.
Just when you think someone is trustworthy, something makes you question everything. Just when you think you know where the story is going or what someone’s intentions are, the script is flipped but in the very best way.
Polaris is a character that you really root for. She is somehow clueless but also not, helpless, yet strong, cold but so warm and empathetic. She is as complex as the plot and is definitely a bigger player than I think we are originally led to believe. I’m not sure if her parents are even actually dead - I’m convinced it’s a lie.
Tatum is honestly just the most perfect thing on earth. Broody, artistic, quiet and withdrawn yet so warm and endearing. I feel like we haven’t even seen the top of the iceberg here.
Wylder is chefs kiss, he’s giving the same vibe as Torrin from lies of Lena who is amazing. He gives strong protector vibes, is kind, funny and strong. He seems super sweet and his little bits of sarcasm and wit really add some comedic relief.
Lincoln is a wild card. One minute you like him, the next he’s acting like it’s his first time PMSing and he cannot control himself at all from being the ultimate jerkwad. When he’s great, he’s great but when he’s being an ass, he reaches the maximum asshole spectrum levels and quickly.
I think we like Bryony, she does seem like she has good intentions and is for the most part a pretty good friend to Polaris.
I cannot wait to continue this series and will probably inhale it like it’s oxygen sooo…
Before writing my review for "Savage Hope" I did a quick scan of previously written reviews. And while I understand what some of them led to giving a lower rating, I can't help but say I truly loved this book. The whole concept of a blood curse fascinates me; knowing two people are connected from birth even though they know nothing about each other is an interesting premise. Especially if you realize the death of one of them ultimately leads to the death of the other before a certain age, while they need to ultimately destroy one to live themselves... I'm fascinated, no matter how many logistical issues you can come up with. There is a psychological component involved that isn't explored (much) in this first book, but I honestly hope we will meet some parents in the next book(s) to learn more about how it is for them to know their child might die at the age of 22. With every side and main character we meet in this first book I can't help but wonder: who will ultimately have to face our leading lady?
The plot development isn't the fastest, that's true, but I quite love the suspense and the lingering questions that just seem to become more pressing with every new chapter. This is the kind of book that gives you time to construct your own ideas about what's going on, or what might still happen. Details are revealed very slowly, and can either confirm your original idea or force you to take a different path. I love that! Maybe not always, but this book definitely kept my attention, and there is no doubt I'm immediately starting book two. I'm even tempted to check out the final book to see how it all ends (blasphemy, I know, but the temptation is real)...
HOLYFRIGGINMOLY I am OBSESSED. My mind is racing, and eeek the intensity of the unknown in this opening book of the Savage Six is intoxicating and mesmerising. I found myself desperate to get back to reading but also for it not to end!
I can feel deep in my bones this is going to be a series I can not get enough of!
That ending, damn that is a mind field. I am so invested in this series. I just need the rest of the series in my hand. KC Kean is a friggin queen when it comes to these worlds and cliffys she creates, and im allfrigginforit.
Polaris is savage, a badass, a queen in a crown who knows what she wants, and yet the depth of character is still unknown. I LOVEEEE the intensity that has her gravitating to the wolves, and I need to know MORE!
The Wolves are a force to be wreckened with. Their personalities, charm, beautifulness, and yet air of arrogance has me swooning and fanning myself over here.
There is some brilliant banter and commentary lacing the book that connects you to the characters so well.
There are so many questions in this opening book that has the mystery growing. Bring on book 2
