As a bonafide coffee lover, this book was so interesting. I learned terminology, the brewing process and so much more. I've known something about the coffee-like taste and brew strength. However, through this book, I learned so much more.
This book was very knowledgeable in explaining so many things about coffee. It truly is a coffee lover's dream book to read. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to learn more about where coffee comes from, how it is processed, and how to speak about coffee like you know it.
Recently my friend asked me “So you have been drinking coffee without knowing what is coffee?” Yeah it is a weird question actually. Anyway, I enjoyed reading this Pocket sized book. It is the same saiz as my smart Phone.
This book is a gist of what coffee is all about. I learned that it was called a Satan’s drink! I was also amazed on how the first coffee fruit was found. The coffee journey was also mentioned. I learned about many ways to brew coffee. So if you have zero knowledge about coffee, I recomend you read this pocket sized book.
Fun little book for a newbie like me to get acquainted with the world of coffee. Coffee lovers always seem to me like they're part of a cult, and now I know why. Coffee is complex, from the brewing methods, to bean varieties, to machines to make coffee, to the variables in the entire cherry to cup journey.
PS. Recently got gifted an aero press, so thought it's worth spending my time on this. If you want a freshly brewed cup of coffee, I can be your barista!
I LOVED this book!! Getting to read it (not-required but useful) when working as a barista was so fun!! I found the majority of the book is about the history of coffee/coffee in different cultures, different purposes, etc. But you also learn about the science, different brew methods (and how they actually work, pros, cons, etc.), and measurements for different drinks! I learned so much & I’m considering buying a copy for myself!
A short and sweet overview about the history of coffee and the most important terms related to it. Additionally, coffees from over the world were mentioned, as well as giving ideas on where to drink coffee in these countries.
A good place to start but certainly not where to finish. Thankfully, the book ends with suggesting further reading.
Fantastic pocket book of coffee history, fun facts, brewing methods and different ways to make coffee. If you’re a coffee lover and want to learn more about it, this is the book for you! Quick read packed with information that I didn’t know about my morning brew.
What a wonderful read! I couldn't fight the urge to get a cup of coffee every time time I picked up this book.
It's a brief summary of coffee history, different types, roasting, and brewing methods. I learned a lot of things I never thought of, and I'm pretty sure there's still a lot more to learn.
I absolutley, thoroughly enjoed Stuff Every Coffee Lover Should Know. This was a quick and fun read. I learned a lot about my favorite daytime drink: coffee. Beer is my favorite night time drink. This book is full of coffee history, different coffee styles and other awesome coffee talking points.
This book was so cute! Despite being a very quick read it was very informative and I loved how broad the context was between brewing instructions, types of brewing apparatuses and even the historical and cultural timeline of coffee.
One pivotal piece of feedback, double check your notes on the Finland section.
I studied abroad in Tampere in college and still visit friends to this day. Kaffeost is Swedish, not Finnish. It’s the literal translation of “coffee cheese” in Swedish. “Coffee Cheese” in Finnish is “kahvijuusto”. There is also mention of a Swedish business being advertised for Finland’s Lapland. They are different countries and there are many Finnish businesses that could have been used to annotate their cultural shoutout.
Found this gem of a book in a hole in the wall bookshop in a small town in Southern Ontario. Not only is it an easy and enjoyable read, if you (like myself), have any interest in coffee, this book is an eye opener in not only what makes our favorite drink, but the many different ways it can be made. It goes into well enough detail for each type of drink, finally making sense to some of us what the insanely long Starbucks menu and it's seemingly exotic names. Moreover, the process of making different types of coffee is well detailed and actually led me to create different types of drinks at home and be more adventurous the next time I stepped into a coffee shop.
Considering I drink coffee most days I didn't know much about it. Love that it was discovered by goats in Ethiopia. I now want to try coffee from Yemen although don't see that happening anytime soon. Enjoyed the quotes at the start especially the one about Irish coffee. "Only Irish coffee provides in a single glass all four essential food groups: alcohol, caffeine, sugar, and fat." Coffees I'm not convinced to try are Finnish coffee poured over cheese or the butter coffee with 2 tablespoons of butter and coconut oil, grims. Fun little book. 4.5 stars
Nice pocketbook that guides you through the waters of the coffee world. The book helps connect the terms that are common (washed, acidity, ...) and creates an understandable framework. Nice read - but I could imagine extracting the last pages of various coffee preparation - they seemed unnecessary to me. overall, an interesting read.
