I've been dragged into the fae realm and given no choice but to pick a mate if I ever want to get back home.
Thankfully, the fae king has offered up some of his most trusted men in an attempt to find me someone to marry.
Unthankfully, he's sort of… possessive.
Which means I'm sleeping in his room.
In his bed.
With him.
While I'm trying to choose a mate from among a handful of candidates who barely seem interested in me.
There's enough chemistry between us to light a fire, but he's not an option. I despise him, and he needs to focus on putting an end to the eclipses that keep making his people beastly and insane.
We have to keep our hands to ourselves and deal with our own problems, to protect his kingdom.
But when the next eclipse sets in, everything goes to crap. Because wild, out of control fae kings?

❥ 𝑪𝒍𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒆 𝜗𝜚˚⋆ Really liked this woman. She is short and kinda fragile but not weak! She brings Kai to his knees and has him wrapped around her fingers.
❥ 𝑲𝒂𝒊 ࣪⋆✮ This man - omg. Every woman can be happy to have a partner like him. Adored him!
✥ 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒃𝒐𝒐𝒌 This series is just so funny and I can‘t take it serious but still love the idea and storyline. The plot in this one is kinda mysterious and we got a lot of crazy fae. Overall it was silly but I had a good time. The author is so creative and gave every character their own personality traits. I love the world building and the fact that not everything is cliché. Lola Glass created her own type of mates and gave each species a little special trait. Clementine and Kai have great tension. Their banter was funny and I enjoyed to follow their relationship path. The vines were unexpected but so hot (in the smut scenes) and gave the whole book a little kick. Kai is my new fav male in this series. He is precious and caring while the crown weights heavy on his shoulders. Clementine is his perfect match. This whole series is no literary masterpiece but I like these books regardless. I giggle a lot and have a fun time, so worth the 5 stars for me. All in all this was an entertaining and quick fantasy romcom and exactly what I was in the mood for.
𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐬 ᡣ𐭩ྀི₊ ⊹ possessive and protective hero, instant attraction, touch her and die, forced proximity, he falls first and harder, fae king x siren, mates, urban fantasy, romcom, fae realm, mates, biting, mystery, he has vines and uses them
2.5 but ill round up because I like the overall fantasy world Glass has created. for me, this was probably the weakest romance of the 3 so far - it was mainly sex with a sudden profession of love from the mmc near the end. until that point, I didn’t really feel their connection was particularly deep, although admittedly there were one or two sweeter moments. the mmc was pretty emotionally reserved, which I usually like in a character, but here it nearly tiptoed into being bland. the fmc meanwhile made a lot of stupid decisions at the start and I didn’t find her super consistent. that said, by the end of the book I was finally convinced they actually liked each other, but it came a bit too late.
the whole eclipse/finding the magical anchor sideplot that ran alongside the romance also could have been more developed. the mmc was just basically reading his Dad’s journals to find the answer, and then its the fmc who reads the last journal and figures out what the anchor is. so, not exactly Sherlock Holmes level of deduction… okay, maybe I’m being petty, but given how this was a MAJOR problem for the fae realm, you would think the mmc could have just recruited a few of his inner circle to help out with reading a few journals and sorted this problem way sooner?? I wanted the resolution to be more complex/involve more skill than simply being literate. why was it so easy after all that prior fuss? it just meant the climax at the end fell way flat for me.
all that said, this was still engaging and I enjoyed being back in the universe Glass has created. If you liked books 1 and 2, then you’ll probably also like this one as its got the same fluffy, low stakes vibe and sassy sisterhood of sirens.
Ok story, the inconsistencies abound- carried forward from the first book. I assume Vamps are not nocturnal and don't burn in the sun, but they still sleep in coffins? And they are warm and not freezing.
Its interesting what the author chose for her Vampires in this series where she keeps to the werewolves and fae pretty close (the vines thing is cool).
I don't like Clem very much, stomping around, naïve, immature and looking for story book love while sleeping around. Ok she likes sex. But it seemed a bit much, yucky actually. Considering the fae king went DECADES without sex. Just kinda off putting.
The mystery was a helpful plot point, yes the instant Clem mentions the "xxx" you KNOW it is important so its kind of a give away. There were humorous moments.
I will keep with the next 2 books- invested in Bane and Talon now, they seem really interesting...
Highlights & Spoilers: Fear swelled in my chest. “Is it going to kill you?” “I’m not five feet tall, so no.” --------------- I grabbed a piece of meat off the tray, and her eyes narrowed in on it. “I thought you were a vegetarian.” “I lied.” -------------- He pulled away after a few minutes. We were both struggling for breath, our foreheads pressed together again as he held me firmly to his chest. “Shit,” he mumbled. “Shit?” My voice raised. “Shit,” he agreed. There was an edge to the words that I couldn’t identify. “You can’t say that after mating with me,” I shot back, pulling my forehead away from his. “Obviously, that’s going to stress me out.”
And surprising insight I NEVER thought of: I stepped up closer to him and swatted his arm as I teased, “What happened to Prince Charming?” “Even Prince Charming wants to screw Cinderella. He wouldn’t go to all the hassle of hunting her down just to give her a shoe.”
Out of the three books I read, this one has a more likable FMC. 😄
Clementine is sunshine personified, kind, and a hopeless romantic. But she can be stubborn too when she wants—I think that's the common factor in all the women in this series.😶
I ended up liking her the most because of her personality and she's more understanding compared to her other sisters. She didn't come off as bratty, immature, or too stubborn. She knows when to back down and to speak up. Basically, all I'm saying is she didn't piss me off. 😂
When it comes to Kai, he's the MMC who did a helluva pushing away, which made him my least favorite (by far). Then when he finally got his act together, he just dropped the ILY bomb out of nowhere, and it really shook me up. I couldn't wrap my head around how he ended up falling for her. But apparently he did, so I suppose there's not much I can do about it now. 🤷♀️
Anyway, there's also another thing that made me like this, but it's obviously a double standard. 🫣😂
Between these two, it seems like Clem is the more experienced, and I think it's been years for Kai since he got some action. So when they went to the vampire manor where Clem used to live, they ran into two guys with whom she had hooked up with. 😅 I know, I know, I'm a hypocrite because if the roles were reversed, I'd be pissed. 🫠
But it's rare to have this situation around the FMC because usually it's the MMC and his past hookups who are being flaunted all the time. So when this happened, I couldn't help but laugh because Kai was freaking jealous and nearly unalive the other one. 🤣
Moving past that, I think this book was pretty okay overall. It wasn't as annoying as the previous ones because the FMC here was actually likable and had a sweet personality. And when the MMC embraced his feelings, they were honestly cute together. Also, this book feels a lot lighter than the last two. There’s no villain, and the characters are just trying to fix things to get everything back to how it was before.
This was still fun enough to read, but a disappointing third book in the series. The short spoiler-free review is that it's a bit of a rinse and repeat of certain relationship dynamics, has some questionable plotting and worldbuilding, and sets up the fourth book in a way that makes me REALLY unexcited.
Clementine is horny and has slept with everyone around her and is still lonely. So, in the middle of the night, she sneaks away (even though she's the one who had been in danger originally to kick off this series so she should know better) and gets kidnapped into the fae realm.
She's told that she's basically poison to all the fae and no one wants her. Oh, nice! Love that for her👎🏻. The fae king decides to set her up with one of his buddies and at the same time can't help but give her orgasms which she accepts (see horny, above).
Eventually, the fae king declares she is his and starts their mate bond. She's upset for a little and won't have sex (or maybe she will, I'm confused) because she knows better than to let some dude get away with being mean to her.
The fae king is a jerk until the very end where he declares his love and she realizes she's loved him all along too so isn't that nice. Oh, and in the meantime, she solves a mystery that has taken him decades.
Then, they all go to a party where one of her unmated sisters decides to go ride a monster 🍆 but gets stopped because, little did she realize, monsters don't do one night stands. They're in it to win it... and she's not cool with that. She just wanted some no strings sexy times.
We learn that the world building has it that monsters imprint on the first person they're attracted to and that's it for them... and if she wants to get away from this one night stand, she has to get someone to KILL HIM!!!??
Uh, what!? Poor guy is infatuated with her and she's like "nah, let me find someone else cause I don't really like you like that". And THAT's the story we're going to get in book 4!?
Reasons why this book didn't work. 1. Replay of domineering man locking his "female" up and she reciprocates by setting boundaries and telling him how that's not cool. He realizes, "oh, that's not cool. I should treat you like a partner" and they live happily ever after. It was a fun story line in books 1 and 2, but didn't work for book 3.
2. This woman solves a mystery in one week that the king couldn't solve in DECADES. He's been reading through his dad's journals looking for a clue but somehow misses it. She finds it after a few days of reading! Let's not even address the idea that the "clue" was written in plain english and was super obvious. Let's just mention that the king has had the journal with the clue FOREVER and didn't find it!
3. The worldbuilding where the fae realm is 7X as fast, everything's bigger, there are weird things happening... but going back and forth between that and the human world is no biggie.
Enh... this book was still fun enough, but not great.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I'll be the first to admit I wasn't thrilled about this one going in. Kai was the least interesting king, and Clem wasn't my favorite siren. The story set up was mildly interesting but that's really all. I read this story to get to Bane and Talon's.
So I'm not exactly surprised that I wasn't crazy about this book in general.
But there are things in here that do not help this story's case at all.
Clem and Kai's nicknames for each other (Five and Seven) are because of their heights. Because apparently she's 5 feet tall ... and he's 7 feet tall.
First of all, gross. Just the logistics of that make me wanna cry. I'm praying for that man's back and knees. 🙏🙏
Add to this the fact that every time someone asks we have to hear Clem explain it...eugh.
Second - how utterly unoriginal. There were a million more names one could have chosen. Instead we get numbers. NUMBERS! At this point, "Kitten" would have been preferable.
The names of most of the Fae are ludicrous. Steve. Josh. Austin. Jordan. Paul. Rocky. Is this the Fae realm or a frat house? Actually don't answer that - there's cum on every available surface, apparently. It literally IS a frat house. 😒
Clem read very young in the previous 2 books. I don't know if it was entirely intentional, or because she was the one who got the ladies in to trouble in the first place (entirely against her will), but she came off as the wild kid sister that nobody could control who courted trouble every chance she got.
And this book, at least, is consistent in her characterization.
The trouble with that is that she read like she was just a teenager. And I really don't enjoy reading smutty books when teens are involved.
It also doesn't help that, by the end, she's still not really given any responsibility as Kai's queen the way her sisters were made partners to their mates in the previous 2 books. She's treated to dance clubs and masquerade balls instead.
And the glitter - let's not forget the glitter. This shit's getting old as hell. It was funny in book 1, mildly interesting in book 2, considering it was potentially a threat against the FMC's life.
But now I'm just over it.
The setup for Zora's book didn't thrill me. It sounded much too close to what happened in this book for me to be excited and knowing she's going to end up with Bane - it feels like I'm just going to be reading the same book twice. I hope that's not the case. (I swear, all of this just to get to Talon's story, when his is the one I've wanted since book 1.)
This story isn't terrible. But the characters don't really have any substance. Their romance is shallow and entirely sex-based - which is really doubly disappointing because Clem is the hopeless romantic of the siren pod and was actively searching for a love-match.
The plot isn't really carrying its weight either. So far this is easily the most generic and forgettable of the entire series.
i cannot tell you how much i LOVE clementine, she’s so chaotic and unfiltered, she had me cackling like an old witch. her and kai were the perfect match. that man was suffering before my girl clem came barrelling into his life / realm. 😂 and phew kai and vines were HOT. i was sweating. 😅 *new kink unlocked*
i truly love how clem always stood her ground and never let kai being her mate, get away with treating her badly. but when kai did upset clem i wanted to jump into the book and shake him. 😂 i think i relate to clem on a level because as much as i hate to admit it, i’m a bit of hopeless romantic. 🙄 *gags* i’m just glad she finally got her love story and her mate that she was longing for.
i know it’s not funny but the ending of the book had me giggling, these sisters are always getting themselves into situations. chaos just follows them everywhere. 😂
My least fav so far. The “nOBoDy WaNtS mE” sads that hit midway.. and from a bubbly, outgoing and popular siren for that matter… that annoyed me. ⭐️ The PRO’s are the world building, the vines (obviously 👀 ) and how she made changes to herself that SHE wanted by the end to better reflect her personality.. love love that, get it girl. ❌ The biggest con? It just wasn’t believable for the riddle that has plagued the king for literal centuries to be solved by Clem in a matter of weeks. THAT pissed me well off. It would have been so easy to have the anchor so deep underwater that only a siren could get it.
This one is spicy, and Kai is an adorable grump of a king, it’s really unfortunate that Clementine spends so much time being annoying. This is a case of “they need to sit down have a conversation” but there no actual miscommunication trope. I enjoyed their bond and I liked the glimpse into the Fae realm and how it differs from vampires and werewolves.
I would say this is probably my second fav of the bunch. The first book is still def my favourite, but Clem & Kai’s storyline was super cute! Super fun and easy read! 3.5⭐️
These two. Ugh. The stubbornness. The frustration. The teasing! The VINES!! loved reading their story. Loved the jokes and how everyone in the fae realm knew Kai was not going to let her go to another suitor.
The best one in the series so far hands down. This novel hit everything that I expect from a supernatural romance. Setting aside the fact that Fae are my favorite supernatural beings, it provided an exciting romance full to the brim with risk, whimsy, and a certain level of creative thinking.
We start off with Clementine sneaking out of Vampire Manor. Which to be honest is completely her MO. She was the reason her sisters and her ended up there in the first place. Curtis marking Clementine at the beginning of the first book. Clementine is just a woman who constantly acts first and thinks about the consequences later. To be fair though what happens is only half her fault. The other half rest squarely on her sister Izzy's lack of thinking as well. Anyways, Clementine convinces the guards at Vamp Manor to let her out. Saying she was just going to spend the full moon with the wolves. It was supposed to be fun, and Clementine has been dying for some fun outside the vampires. She loved playing around with them, but she was beginning to want a mate. Seeing her other two sisters mated has triggered Clementine's hopeless romantic side. Thinking that maybe she could find a mate amongst her sisters pack, she wanders around looking for wolves. Everything is strangely quiet, with not a shifter in site. I assumed they were off either running, or screwing. Clementine thinks that going to her sisters lake would be a good idea, and she finds some Fae swimming in the lake. A handful of them dancing and frolicking in the nature. She goes into the water, and starts dancing with two men she found. It immediately turns bad though when one of the men realizes that she is a siren. He immediately steals her away to the Fae realm with the intention of mating her. Scared Clementine takes off away from the Fae into a dark jungle. Finding a tree to climb, she hides amongst its branches hoping the Fae wont find her. He calls out, but doesn't get much into his search before he is being suffocated by the King of the Fae. Kai.
Kai takes care of the Fae, and then goes searching for Clementine. Calling out to her, and asking her to come with him. Saying it isn't safe. Clementine debates, but when she spots a VERY large centipede she screams and falls out of the tree. Stumbling right into Kai in her panic over the bug. He is annoyed at her for being here, and says they need to get back to the castle. Clementine starts to argue when Kai seems to panic and tells her to run.
Clementine runs towards the castle, and gets to the doors without anything serious happening. When she enters Clementine is shocked to find Kai sitting on his throne. He had teleported through the realms to beat her to the palace. This annoys Clementine.
*Info to make things faster....The only beings that can traverse between the Fae lands and Earth are Fae and there mates. Clementine being unmated, means her only way back to her sisters is to mate with someone. First issue...The Fae do not like taking mates. They live a long time, and tend to prefer to unencumbered lifestyle. Some do, but it comes with things that no Fae wants to have to deal with. One such thing being a vine that keeps the mates tethered together, they don't go anywhere alone. Another would be the vines that seem to have minds of there own, and react to both of their emotions. Intense. The other glaring issue is that the Fae have been going through frequent eclipse's that send their magic into chaos. Returning the Fae to there most carnal needs for sex and violence. Last piece of info, time moves differently in the Fae realm. A few hours in our world can be a week there.*
Kai immediately starts demanding that his subjects mate with Clementine or find someone to mate with her. Unfortunately Clementine's magic is basically poison to a Fae during the eclipse. It provides them with more life magic that sends them further into there carnal nature. Its actually very intricate story telling and I appreciated it deeply.
Clementine, determined to make the best of a bad situation decides to make a list of things she wants to talk to a mate with. Making sure that whoever she ends up with is someone she could one day fall in love with, and someone who was willing to share there life with her. She learned quickly that the men she spoke to either wanted her for her magic, or didn't want her at all. It depressed her beyond measure, and it didn't help that she was sleeping in a bed with a man who also didn't seem to want her. Although I have to point out the glaringly obvious thing she didn't see. Kai MADE her sleep in his room, MADE her wear HIS clothes, and ended up yielding to her in the throne room. Kai wanted Clementine before he was willing to say it out loud, and she was too busy moping over her situation to see that Kai was already having issue's keeping his hands to himself. They narrowed the candidates/suitors down to Kai's four closest men. People he claims not to be friends with. Kai says that they now have to wait till an eclipse to see how they are affected by her magic. Saying they have to be sure that her new mate isn't going to harm her while under the affects of the eclipse.
Soon enough the eclipse comes, and Clementine is awoken by Kai's vines that are....well lets just say they are exploring some personal places. She wakes him up noticing his red eyes. He yanks the vines back but Clementine continues playing with herself and letting Kai watch. Once she finished he puts clothes on her and says they need to go and see her candidates/suitors, who happen to be right outside their door. Clementine steps into the first male standing there, and just before her lips can touch his Kai yanks her back. He presses her to the wall, and claims her starting a mating bond right there and then. Clementine is shocked and confused steps into the room and locks the door behind her. She needed a minute to herself. Kai bangs on the door demanding she open it, that they talk about what is going on. She manages to get him to agree to a minute, and he teleported away. Clementine does some quick thinking. She didn't want any of the other man, and she could do worse than the King of the Fae. Thinking maybe she could make something with him. Kai teleports into the room, and the two talk, Kai continues to force the bond convincing Clementine in the end to seal it.
They teleport Earthside and immediately Kai leaves Clementine to deal with issues going on in the Manor. Clementine is beyond hurt by being left to figure out things on her own. Kai is struggling with how much he wants Clementine and is doing everything he can to stay sane. To keep his head so that he can deal with the affects of the eclipse. Kai and one of his subordinates get things contained into the pool on one of the upper floors, trying to calm the Fae at least a little bit.
Clementine finds Kai in the pool, shocked and surprised by the chaotic display. She offers to purify the water in order to help, but tells Kai everyone needs to leave. Her magic will pull them in if they don't and then they will have more issues. Kai gets his men to escort the Fae out of the pool, and pins Clementine to a wall to hide her from his subjects. He doesn't want anyone seeing his mate and wanting to have sex with her. When everyone is gone, they get into the pool. Clementine hesitates worried that Kai is going to have sex with her. After ditching her when the sealed there bond Clementine wasn't willing to forgive him for it. Kai says they wont have sex, but to allow him to touch her. She takes the compromise and starts purifying. Kai pleasures her the entire time, and when they finally finish Clementine is exhausted.
After that they leave to visit Clementine's sisters, Hale, Porter, and guests for thanksgiving dinner. Its awkward at first because the sirens do not look at Kai with very much favor. Porter does welcome him to the family, but no one else seems to treat him very well. Clementine still offers her the chair next to her, and tries her best to get her sisters to be nicer. Despite being extremely upset at Kai for treating her so poorly.
They go back to the Fae realm and Kai gets a coffin lid for Clementine to sleep under. They go about this way for a bit. The two keeping a weird distance between each other. Then one night Clementine complains that sirens need to cuddle, and Kai offers himself. Clementine thinks about it, and given her lack of choices she ends up sleeping in bed with him. They go on that for a while with Kai vines waking her up in the middle of the night to pleasure Clementine. She enjoys it too much for it to stop, and for the first time it seems that she is getting something she wants out of her forced mate.
They share a moment in a tub as well where Kai shares that he is looking for the anchor that keeps the Fae realm and the Earth realm connected. He explains that his father was horrible and had done something to make the eclipse happen more often. Its technially only supposed to happen once a year. Its the first time the two share anything about each other, and it happens in the tub. Adorable!
After that the two go on for a few weeks with Kai and Clementine sleeping together at night. Clementine starts to get upset though. Feeling as if Kai is using her and doesn't have the balls to sleep with her during the day. She refuses to talk to him about it though, not until he has cornered her and forces the conversation. Clementine finally confesses her full feelings to Kai, letting him know that she doesn't just want someone to treat her like a night time toy. She wants some kind of romance and happiness. Instead she got stuck with a man who doesn't respect her.
Kai clearly hears this, because the two go at it by the end of the conversation. Things start to melt together, and a few more weeks pass where Clementine begins to help Kai run things at the Manor and in the Fair kingdom.
They are suddenly called to a Kings meeting to talk about the Christmas masquerade, and just before they get there the eclipse they had been waiting for comes, and Kai can barely keep it together. They arrive at the meeting and Talon freaks out once again about not being able to have a siren, despite continued requests to have access to one himself. He is told by Bane AGAIN that if he wants one he is going to have to tell people why. AGAIN Talon refuses to say more and leaves before the meeting is out. They talk about the masquerade and Clementine warns that there is an eclipse and things are bad right now. They leave, and rush back to there room, but they don't make it. Kai stops down the hall and his eyes are a deep red. Clementine runs, causing Kai to chase her. In amongst Kai's hands being on her skin when he catches her, Clementine comes up with a plan. Its time for Kai to trust other people starting with Clementine. She tells him to cut there connecting vine, take her to the Fae realm, and leave her in there room with the diaries and some food. Kai argues at first, but when Clementine uses her magic to force the issue Kai complies. Telling her not to leave there room for any reason while he is gone dealing with the chaos at the Manor. Clementine spends a week and a half looking through Kai's father diaries until she finds the entry she needs in the last book. Kai's father had taken a plant from the garden and kept it in his room. A plant she had noticed earlier in the book, residing in there room Earthside. Happy she found what they were looking for she waits a few more days for Kai to arrive. When he gets back Clementine is curled up shaking in the bathtub. She tells him what she found, and the two race back to Earth to replant the poisonous berry bush back where it belongs. The eclipse ends.
Kai takes care of Clementine and the two profess there love. Beautiful!
A week later they celebrate Christmas with the masquerade and for a moment all seem okay and peaceful. That is until Clementine spots Zora flirting with a monster...a demon to be exact. She points it out to Bane, and he immediately freaks out. The person she was with is named Oscar and he is apparently hasn't imprinted on anyone yet (A monster thing). Oscar tries to take Zora from the ball and is stopped by the kings. Once they have Oscar separated from Zora they talk in the hallway. Bane offers to protect Zora with the rest of the monster woman. Zora refuses to put the very rare woman at risk, since Oscar seems to be tech genius. Zora decides to stay at the vampire Manor. For now.
The epilogue is from Kai perspective a year later. The two are laying in bed together talking about having kids, and eventually agree that it is the next step for them. Clementine is happy, and Kai is as well.
It was exciting, romantic, exciting, and interesting. I can not imagine the next one being as good, but we shall see. For now this one is well worth the read if your looking for a solidly good romance.
