Everett Moran lives his life at a glass half-empty. It’s easier to hold people at arm’s length than to get attached and have them leave. It’s why he hides behind a mask—from the family that cut him out, from the friends he’s afraid to lose and from the reality he doesn’t want to face. He’s been doing a good job of it, too, until a class project forces him and the one-night-stand he hasn’t been able to forget to work together.
Wren Abbott is all too familiar with surviving troubled waters on her own. She’s only ever had herself to depend on, but with her future in Everett’s hands, she is forced to let her walls down. When he keeps showing up for her, she has to face the fact that the tangled mess of feelings between them might not be so complicated after all.
With their pride set aside and their hearts on the line, the choice is theirs to make. Do they run or do they stay and fight?

This book is such a delightful collage romance! While it has its sweet moments, the core theme revolves around healing. Both main characters have faced their fair share of tough times, and it adds depth to their story. Everett and Wren start off hating each other, but when they’re thrown together to work on a project, they have to set their differences aside. As they start to spend time together, they gradually learn more about one another and begin to help each other navigate their past traumas.
My heart just ached when I discovered what they had been through and how their experiences made them feel insecure and put up walls to protect themselves. Wren's relationship with her father truly tugged at my heartstrings. All she’s ever wanted is for him to love her, but sadly, he couldn't give her what she truly needed. Because of this, she fears letting anyone get too close, so she often chooses to leave before others can.
Everett is such a wonderful MMC! He’s aware of Wren's emotional wounds and is respectful of her space. I loved how patient and understanding he was. He remembers her feelings while reassuring her that he’s not going anywhere. Their project brings them closer together emotionally, and you can truly feel their connection growing with each page. Watching them communicate and start to lower their defenses was so beautiful.
Another thing I adored was the found family aspect of the book. Everett's friends are just fantastic! They know when he needs time alone and respect that, which is important. I found it heartwarming how they embraced Wren just because she made Everett happy. Overall, this book is a touching journey of healing, love, and wonderful friendships that make you fall in love with these characters.
“it’s like he’s embedded in my bones, sewn into my skin, and i never want to be free of him. i want every waking second he will give me.”
this is EASILY one of THE SWEETEST romance books i have ever read in my life. i don’t know what it was about it, but it was everything to me.
i connected so well with wren, especially where her abandonment issues are concerned. she was terrified, quite literally down to her bones, about people leaving, so she did what she knew how to do, and i totally understand where she was coming from. she is such a warrior for dealing with her dad and his wife that could literally be her sister…he is so weird for that, but to each their own i guess. wren’s vibes and her whole demeanor just spoke to me, and now she’s one of my favourite characters to date.
everett, that sweet, sweet man, was clearly so down bad for wren that he didn’t know how to handle his feelings. i mean, the man let her draw on him and then THE TATTOOS? let’s be real, he was never not in love with her. he wanted so badly to be there for her, to be the reason she stayed and didn’t run, and he SHOWED that. he didn’t just say it, his actions proved him right. they were both broken for a period of time, but ever so slowly, they put each other back together and mended their broken pieces one by one.
i was obsessed with their “you remembered?” moments, the way they tried so hard to connect with each other and did it effortlessly, the tattoos, the “adventures”, everything about them just made sense. they’re perfect.
i will most definitely be adding this book to my reread list, and i cannot wait to see what else this author comes out with!
thank you so much to luna literary management and the author for the e-arc! 🌙
❀ he falls first ❀ found family ❀ forced proximity ❀ hate to want you (again) ❀ artist mmc x sculptor fmc
Before I begin I want to thank the author, Ashley Kathleen, for giving me this ARC.
This was okay, and that's really all i can say about this. I just thought that it needed something extra. I really liked the art part of this, but the rest was a bit monotonous. It was cute but it didn't wow me. I was bored during half of the time.
Wow. I don’t really know what else to say. This book is emotional, at points heartbreaking, then heartwarming and overall so healing. It’s an emotional journey which has you gripped from the start.
𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲: The books starts with Wren & Everett being forced to work together for the semesters art protect. They hate each other after an emotional one night which left them both feeling a little raw. With so much trauma in their past, while Everett learned to push through and build walls to protect himself. Wren learned that running was safer. This caused them to spend two years hating each other. Now forced together for this project they are learning that maybe they aren’t so different and that their own trauma is holding them back from finding something beautiful not just with each other but the family they created around them.
𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬: Wren & Everett have my whole soul. The depth of their insecurities from past trauma was so deep and heartbreaking. But the emotional growth throughout the book was just so beautiful to read.
The found family element in this book. Oh I just love them so much. Each character is so needed and they just create the perfect group.
This book hit a bit close to home to read. I’ve never read a book which I related to soo much. It was like my inner thoughts and own trauma written on paper but it was so healing at the same time. I do admit I cried for like 90% of this book but it honestly is one of the best books I’ve ever read. It will forever be a heart book.
I’m soooo grateful to have been given an arc for this book. It’s my first read by this author and won’t be the last.
Wren Abbott was given life by two people who simply weren’t interested in being parents, which is a reality that weighs heavy on her heart. Due to her emotional needs not being met as a child, she’s very avoidant and has a tough time with having tough conversations.
She holds everyone at arms length and tries to do everything on her own. Thankfully, her roommate and best friend is there for her when she needs it. After running away, she realises, she deserves love and it’s right in front of her.
Everett Moran is an interesting character, he keeps to himself but has quite a few loyal and supportive friends. I love seeing this because clearly they see through his façade of the ‘loner’. He's the type of person who goes through life surviving but doesn't realise when survival mode ends because that's all he's ever known.
When he finally realised his bubble was full of supportive people, he grew as a person and became a better friend and partner.
Some chapters I felt like I was reading blocks and blocks of descriptions and I wish it had been broken up a bit more. I also noticed some of the descriptions about art stuff sometimes seemed messy and didn't always make sense. Over complicating descriptions isn’t helpful, let readers fill in the blanks. Trauma dumping has become an overused word that has lost all meaning. Everett doesn't trauma dump when he tries to talk to Wren.
Gen Z characters using Millennial references usually irk me.
This is a good story. There are a lot of metaphors weaved into the story which makes sense for the creative minds of these two artists but I wish the metaphors stayed on the same wavelength. If Wren had used glass metaphors and Everett used water metaphors. Ashley Kathleen knows their characters and what they’ve been through, I wish the readers were given even more about these two.
This book was so good! You can feel the tension between the two MCs from the very beginning and that feeling of ‘finally’ when they get together is everything!
The actions of both of the MCs from the start stem from a place of self preservation/protection. Coming from similar homelives of being neglected, albeit different types of neglect. The MMC wasn’t allowed to be who he wanted, his parents would only push him to eventually take over the family business; while the FMC had a father who was in and out of the picture for a few years then was gone until she went to college and her mother struggled with substance abuse so she had to learn to take care of herself. She was born to parents who didn’t care to be parents.
Even though they had neglectful parents their coping mechanisms are entirely different, she has learnt that when something scares her to run from it while he fights back a bit/fights for it. Their dislike for one another stemmed from a brief history between them two years prior to the current timeline, but they get paired for a project and so they are forced to spend time together due to a professor who likes to meddle a bit.
The MMC, Everett, is an artist, he paints and sketches while also working as a receptionist at a tattoo shop. Throughout his life he has only known everyone to leave eventually, that no one would ever pick him. So he is quiet and reserved but his roommates and friends are his chosen family and they are just the sweetest. He is actually covered in tattoos and one is for our FMC, Wren; she is a sculptor, with one best friend who she loves deeply. She got into the college for free because her father is a professor there and is trying to be a dad after disappearing from her life so many years ago.
Everett and Wren’s communication isn’t always perfect but I don’t think anyone has perfect communication 24/7.
Overall this was a great book and I really loved it.
Two Souls is an emotional and beautifully written college romance about love, healing, and self-discovery. Wren and Everett’s journey is filled with tension, longing, and the kind of slow-burn connection that makes every moment between them feel significant. From the very beginning, their complicated history is evident. Now, forced to work together on an art project, they have no choice but to face their past and the emotions that still linger.
What makes this story stand out is the depth of the characters. Wren is guarded, shaped by a lifetime of feeling unwanted, and her instinct is to run before she gets hurt. Everett, on the other hand, is patient, steady, and quietly determined to prove he’s not going anywhere. Their relationship isn’t just about romance—it’s about learning to trust again, about breaking down walls that have been up for too long.
One of my favorite aspects of this book is the found family element. Everett’s friends are more than just side characters—they’re supportive, protective, and provide the kind of unconditional love that both Wren and Everett desperately need. Their presence adds warmth to the story, reminding us that sometimes, family isn’t just the one you’re born into but the one you build for yourself.
This book takes readers on an emotional rollercoaster, with raw moments of vulnerability, beautifully written tension, and a love story that feels both fragile and powerful at the same time. If you love college romances with deep character growth, forced proximity, and a bit of angst, this is a book to add to your list.
this book was so sweet🥹 i wasnt sure what to expect going in because this author is a first for me, but i really enjoyed this book! i related heavily to Wren’s abandonment issues and family problems, and her fight or flight attacks were written really well in my opinion (as someone with anxiety, they actually made me uncomfortable. but thats a good thing!! means the author wrote them correctly lol). poor baby Everett, i just wanted to wrap him in a hug and tell him hes worth loving, him being sad hurt my heart.
i will say my one *very small* complaint was that i believe this was marketed as kinda enemies to lovers? and the enemies part just didnt work for me, there wasnt enough animosity & it wasnt enough of a slow burn to truly constitute them being “enemies.” id say more “holding a grudge-emies to lovers” lol. and that threw me off a little bit in the beginning, but once i got over that & just let myself enjoy the book? oh yeah😍
definitely going to grab book 1 immediately, i’m so curious about how that couple ended up where they are!! and im STOKED for the next book, i bet its Fitz👀 thank you so much for an arc!
This one was intense! Both Wren and Everett are carrying so much emotional baggage—family issues, past trauma—but watching them grow and heal throughout the book was honestly beautiful. The college setting, the Two Souls project, and the whole artistic angle? Loved it! Everett stole my heart with how patient and understanding he was toward Wren. No matter what he’s been through, he never lets it make him cold. And Wren? She’s been through so much, but her growth was one of my favorite parts of the book. Also, their friend group? Absolute gems. The way they became family to each other just made everything even better.
The story kicks off with Wren and Everett meeting at a college party, and let’s just say—sparks fly fast. They have a one-night stand, but it’s clear from the start that it’s more than just that. What follows? Full-on sworn enemies mode. But fate (and their art project) forces them to work together. With their pride set aside and their hearts on the line, they have to decide: run from it or stay and fight for something real.
I really enjoyed this book! Some of the intense moments were a lot for me, but overall, it was such a gripping read. And can we talk about how Everett kept the secret tattoo? Obsessed! If you love intense romances, college settings, hate-to-want-you, and he falls first tropes, you need to pick this one up.
A very sweet college romance. That focuses more on communication then the physical connection. However with that being said there is a few scenes that is steamy.
It's about healing, finding each other again. Everett and Wren are perfect for each other but they need to figure that out for themselves,n they hate each other, haven't spoken for two years because of one night in the past. They are forced to work together on a art project.
Wren is used to being alone, taking care of herself. Her father wasn't around and her mother was when she wasn't drunk. She has family issues, and if she would let herself let Everett in she would see he went thru similar but built walls around him to push people out.
Can they work together and create the best art project, and at the same time heal each other, Everett wants to protect her and take care of her.
Beautiful emotional journey of two lost souls finding their one!
I sure hope the next book will tell Fitz and Becca's story.
(ARC Review) I loved every second of this!! This book was literally so beautiful. I love how it was written and I literally fell in love with Everett and Wren (especially Everett, I need that man to be real) And omg. They are so relatable it was like having one's soul right in front of them. The relationship they have is just so beautiful I can't get over it. The way the Everett's friends were so loving of Everett and so accepting of Wren and Wren's best friend truly loving her literally brought tears to my eyes. The way the project not only forced Everett and Wren to be in each other's presence but brought them together in such a beautiful manner and make them communicate with one another is everything to me. It was so good to see them be scared to let each other in because of their pasts but they still did it and loved each other so wholly. So excited for everyone to read this!!
Solid 3.5 star read. Those stars are mainly for Everett though because I am obsessed.
1. I love that both MCs have names that could be for a male or female main character. Love the names Everett and Wren. 2. Love love love the nickname Wildflower and the reason behind the nickname. 3. Love the Tatted up MMC and I wish we had character art.
There was just something missing in this for me but I can't pinpoint it.
Would recommend though and I desperately want a Beks and Fitz book 💛
Two Souls was a beautiful college romance story about two souls coming together and healing from their insecurities due to parental abandonment. Wren and Everett who dislike each other are paired to be partners for a semester art project. As time goes on they start to rebuild a friendship and help each other navigate their past traumas. It was beautiful to watch them break down their walls and let each other in. Wren and Everett were absolutely perfect for each other! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Two Souls is Now Available!
Thank You Ashley and Luna Literary for allowing me to read and review!
This read can both break your heart, as well as fill it with so much warmth and joy. Wren's abandonment issues and Everett's fear of people not wanting him felt all too real. This is a beautiful story of finding your person and healing together. However, even though this book can be read as a standalone, I think it's way better to read it as a part of series. I didn't and it made me feel like I was lost sometimes. With quite a few side characters and their found family relationship.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Two Souls was such an easy and enjoyable read! 📚 It had the perfect balance of cuteness and just the right amount of spice 🌶️. College romance is one of my favourite genres, and this book absolutely did not disappoint ❤️. The chemistry between Everett and Wren was undeniable, and their journey together was truly perfect 😍. I loved every moment of it! I'll definitely be going back to read the rest of the series 📖✨.
Books that have tension and build on that are my jam, and that is what you will get with Two Souls!! As you read Two Souls, you get see how Everett and Wren fight their feelings for one until they give into their feelings. Thy both have things they need to work through and when they learn to trust in each other and their love, it’s beautiful!! So glad I got to read this and will definitely read more from this author!!
College romance they’re forced to work with each other on a school project. They can’t stand each other enemies to lovers after self healing they both find love in one another. Thank you for this ARC
The emotional trauma that the characters in this book overcome is absolutely heartbreaking, but also keeps you hooked throughout the entire book. I loved Wren and Everett’s love story so much! The found family aspect of this book had me crying so much. This was a beautiful read and I can’t wait to read more from Ashley!! Thank you so much Luna and Ashley for the early copy of this one!
Two Souls was so darling! This was my first Ashley Kathleen book, but it had me hooked! I loved the dynamic and second-chance between the two main characters, Everett (Evy) and Wren. The vulnerabilities that they allowed, as they navigated a very complex situation, was superbly written. The support systems were all there in the book, and again, so well written. Every character brought their own 'thing' to the family table. It was a very sweet romance book and I will happily follow more of Ashley's writing in the future!
