I came here for the orc porking. I just wanted to see the orc and his lil twink boyfriend. 🤭

That being said, this wasn’t great. And that’s okay. Sometimes you just need a filler read that’s distracting and moderately enjoyable.
I’m still curious about the others in the series and wouldn’t mind some more sexy orcs, so even if this was overall pretty meh, I’ll count it as a win.

I really liked the dynamic between these two but I do wish it was longer. With that, I know that there is another book coming that will likely heavily feature these two MCs just given the context and plot arc.
These two were sweet as honey and so hot together. I loved that they just admitted their feelings instantly and there wasn’t this “will they/wont they” pull and push before they made a decision. This is very low angst for the most part with most of the standing conflict being external (imo).
I will say, I do wish we got a bit more focus on the fact that he just kinda….disappeared. Iykyk. I’d be so worried but for them I know it all works out.
Overall, I love a good size difference romance and this definitely hit 🖤

Oh, this one did not disappoint! I went in expecting heat and it definitely delivered but what caught me off guard was how soft and emotional it turned out to be. Rainn and Axum have such natural chemistry, and the way their connection deepens had me completely hooked. There’s a quiet tenderness between them that balances the steam so well. I’m already so invested in this friend group, and now I need to know what’s in store for Kai 🤭😆

This was a first for me. I can honestly say I have never read a book about an orc before and I have to say I didn’t hate it.
Yes it was a little strange but Rainn and Axum seemed like a cute mix species couple. The fact that Rainn had been practicing before knowing that orc’s are real.

This was such a fun and fluffy novella! I loved the premise and the execution was great. I loved the idea of a portal letting humans through into the orcs world only if their fated mates were there.
Axum and Rainn were cute together and I loved their instant connection. I loved how they helped each other with aspects on their lives they needed help with. Axum was so attentive with Rainn, and Rainn turned out to be a great advisor to Axum.
I really enjoyed Axum's world and I'm excited to read more of it.

This is a sweet fluffy high heat opposites attract size difference fantasy romance. I have never read about Orcs before (and honestly I am not familiar with the lore at all) so I wasnt sure of what to expect but I really enjoyed this low angst high heat read. I didn’t entirely connect with the characters but I found the writing to be easy and smooth and the world building was a good balance of new and exciting but simple and not detracting from the romantic plot. I liked that the MC was a romance author (fantasy romance ) it made it very meta but still sweet😄

This was... sweet? But ultimately boring. I think if this was a single-author series, I'd stop here because while there was nothing at all problematic about this book, there also wasn't much to the plot to keep me interested. It was basically boy fantasizes about orcs, boy goes through a portal and meets his fated orc mate, zero conflict ensues, and there's some fucking 🥱
But I'm going to pick up the next book anyway, and see if that author did anything more interesting with this world 🤞🤞🤞

What happens when portal romance meets isakai-ed into a book tropes? You get this quirky story of a monster romance author living out his own feral fantasies when he accidentally finds a portal to a fantastical world while hiking.
The dynamic between the to MLs is so healthy. There is no forced-by-fate or dub-con. Rainn and Axum communicate, try to bear each other's burdens, and take the time to really get to know one another before jumping headlong into an eternal commitment. Not that either of them is perfect. (That would be boring.) Axum is plagued by self-doubt and Rainn is relationship shy. But they come together to help one another with their shortcomings.
The settings in the story are so important, particularly because Rainn craves being outdoors in the wild. Fortunately, the descriptions are so vivid and well written you can practically feel the cold drops of water on your face when Rainn gets caught in a storm. The pacing of the story is strong but not rushed.
Rainn is a bit too crass for my taste, but he is also a character that knows what he likes and isn't shy about it. There also seemed to be large holes on the story when it came to Axum's brothers, but that is most likely because they both will have their own stories and the author didn't want to box in or step on the other series contributors' toes.
Ala & all, it is a very fun read. Hopefully there isn't too much of a wait before the other two books are released.

So, I have to confess that Orcs are one of my favorite paranormal creatures, and when I heard that some of my favorite authors were writing a collaboration of Orc stories, well ... Sign me up! I was not disappointed. Claimed by the Orc Emperor is an absolutely enchanting tale of fated mates, exotic new worlds, and finding the one soul that completes yours.
Rainn is utterly adorable as the human who stumbles into a world, not unlike the books that he writes, and finds his own Orc mate (it's a good thing he's a bit of a size queen because 😲🍆). I loved Emperor Axum, as well. He's really got a soft heart and an incredible desire to rule his people to the best of his ability, and his devotion to Rainn is the stuff that makes you sigh and smile. There is a bit of insta-love and insta-lust but it absolutely works. When you meet your fated mate it's completely understandable and logical to feel that instant connection and it doesn't feel forced or trite.
R.S. McKenzie is well known for writing dark and gritty romances but they can now add writing heartwarming fantasy to their resume. I honestly loved this story so much. It made me smile and feel happy and I think that's about the highest praise any book can garner.
I highly recommend this book and I can't wait to dive into the next one.

He's really got a soft heart and an incredible desire to rule his people to the best of his ability, and his devotion to Rainn is the stuff that makes you sigh and smile. There is a bit of insta-love and insta-lust but it absolutely works. When you meet your fated mate it's completely understandable and logical to feel that instant connection and it doesn't feel forced or trite.
R.S. McKenzie is well known for writing dark and gritty romances but they can now add writing heartwarming fantasy to their resume. I honestly loved this story so much. It made me smile and feel happy and I think that's about the highest praise any book can garner.
I highly recommend this book and I can't wait to dive into the next one.

'Ive never had anyone tell me I was their dream before.'
I enjoyed the initial setup to this story, the introductions to Rain & Axum was great in showing who they're. The emperor aspect, writing, hiking, nature, friendship and each of their histories with their families was interesting.
The world building was stunning too, all of the little details of the other world coming to life and how the portals work. I adored the action scenes, along with elements of the politics and life as the emperor.
In terms of the romance it's very much insta attraction and love comes quickly as the fated mates aspect. However it was fitting and I enjoyed these two together, the spice is heated and they're rather sweet in how they look after each other in their own ways.
I did start to get bored somewhere along the way, as felt like lots of telling not showing in areas. The pacing was slight off and didn't flow for me at times with the changing of povs each chapter felt disconnected in places.
Overall I was still entertained though and intrigued by this world, the rest of the cast introduced were interesting. So I'm excited to try more in the series and see their stories. Axum & Rain get their happy ending 💚

An over-sweet bed time story...
Like something Disney got his grubby hands on, deleting all the nasty (¡ Educational!) bits, but forgetting to remove the sex...
Because; I was born in 1957, I am Swedish, and before I knew that Walt did more than Donald Duck, I had had the Grimm brothers' versions read to me many times.
Snowwhite's step mother is invited to the wedding. They put red hot iron shoes on her feet, and force her to dance until she falls down dead.
Cinderella's step sisters cut off parts of their feet to fit in the shoe, but as they ride away, the little birds sing to the Prince, warning him that the bride is leaving a blood trail...
In a 14th century, Italian version of Sleeping Beauty, a King finds her sleeping, but doesn't wake her with a kiss – he leaves her pregnant, with twins, no less! The rest of the story is about how they get justice for their mother and themselves.
Alright, I didn't read that one as a child.
And these were the cleaned-up versions of much older, Proto-Indoeurpean tales.
Forgive the rant. This is a sweet, sweet tale. Still, I really can't see an Emperor's consort doing dishes.
If there is an everafter, Walt D is still getting his well-deserved beating.

I love me a MM monster romance! Surprisingly, this was my first orc story. Gotta say, big fan! Lol. The author is very clear that this is a fluffy romance, so keep that in mind doing into this story. I really loved Rainn from the very beginning, such a free-spirited sweetheart. Rainn is an author who writes monster smut with a preference for ocs. I think this played a role in Rainn accepting that he is the fated mate to the orc emperor fairly quickly when he happens to stumble into this new world. I really enjoyed the dynamic between Rainn and Axum and how they were really equal partners. Axum may be the emperor, but he leans on Rainn for support when needed with some reassurances from Rainn.
This is a short and fluffy monster romance that is full of fun, sweet moments, and doesn’t lack in the spice department. I recommend giving this one a try if you are looking for a short and spicy monster romance. I needed a palate cleanser after reading a lot of dark romances and this is exactly what I needed!
