I have this unyielding belief that love can conquer just about all. My goal is to provide a form of entertainment that allows readers to transcend their current situation if only for a moment, to be pleasantly entertained and emotionally moved.
My characters are flawed yet constantly strive to overcome as most of us do... their story, however, is enhanced with a dose of sexiness.
This book is a total page-turner! I couldn't put it down. It follows Patricia, a passionate director of a community center, and she's fighting to save it from being shut down by a certain company who needs that building space to expand their business. But that determination to save the centre is challenged when she begins to have feelings for Mac Carter, the CEO of the very company demanding her centre's evacuation! The book explores some really interesting themes, like the clash between ambition and community, loyalty anc romance, and how our values can change when we're faced with tough choices. Patricia's emotional journey of self-discovery is super relatable, and I found myself cheering her on every step of the way. The supporting characters truly shone in this story! They were incredibly relatable, and their individual arcs brought added depth and richness to the narrative. I absolutely adored Patricia's mom. The highlight of the book was definitively the romance between Patricia and Mac. It has everything – the chemistry, the excitement, the intense passion, and even the tension. Their chemistry is so off the charts that it significantly affects their personal lives, both in good and challenging ways. You can't help but eagerly anticipate the times when they get together and those nail-biting moments when it seems like they will never be able to overcome their differences. While I felt that Mac's viewpoint was somewhat underexplored compared to Patricia's, "Whispers in the Night" is a touching romance that will make you appreciate strong female characters and leave you pondering long after you finish reading. Buckle up; it's an exhilarating journey!
Dorothy Elizabeth Love’s "Whispers in the Night" is a gripping tale of passion, purpose, and the power of human connection. Set against the backdrop of a high-stakes battle for the DuBois Community Center, the story intricately weaves themes of advocacy, community, and unexpected romance.

The tension between these two characters is electric, driven by their opposing goals yet complicated by a magnetic chemistry that leaps off the page.
Love masterfully captures the intensity of their confrontations, layering professional rivalry with personal vulnerability. Patricia and Mac’s dynamic is as much a battle of wills as it is a journey of self-discovery. Patricia’s struggle to reconcile her dedication to the community with her growing feelings for Mac adds depth to her character, making her relatable and profoundly human. Similarly, Mac’s transformation from an adversary to a complex, multi-dimensional character keeps readers intrigued.
The heart of "Whispers in the Night" lies in its exploration of moral dilemmas and emotional conflicts. Love’s writing is vivid and engaging, painting a picture of a community fighting to preserve its identity while two individuals navigate the messy intersection of ambition and love. While the central romance is compelling, the novel also shines in its portrayal of the DuBois Community Center as a symbol of hope and resilience. It serves as a reminder of the importance of standing up for what matters, even when the odds are daunting.
"Whispers in the Night" is a must-read for those who love stories about strong-willed characters, slow-burn romance, and the complexities of love and duty. Dorothy Elizabeth Love delivers a story that is as emotionally resonant as it is entertaining, leaving readers both satisfied and deeply moved.
This was a cute story filled with lots of misunderstandings and jealous bitter women. What ever became of Mac's relationship with his older daughter? Did he just forget about her is he in their lives?

This was a lovely clean read with a wonderful HEA. Patricia and Mac had to work through some very tough times. Between the Center and his company there was a lot of strife and with both of them having the history with love that they did a happy ending was hard to find for them.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily
Patricia almost let the love of her life leave. It's always some possible life altering interaction that quickly have people put their pride and insecurities aside when it comes to love. It really prevails above all.
Whispers in the Night: Black Love Series (Book 1) by Dorothy Elizabeth Love is a sultry and emotionally intense tale of romance, ambition, and self-discovery. The themes expressed in the book include romantic and emotional complexity, community and legacy, and healing and discovery. I recommend this book for fans of contemporary romance.
Whispers in the Night: Black Love series (book 1) by Dorothy Elizabeth Love is the story of Patricia Ryan (Patty), advertising director during the day, and a volunteer board member of DuBois Center in the evening. And her meeting with Mac Carter, the owner of Mckenzy-Duran Company, the company that wants to buy the land for the center.
A meeting that began with stumbling, chemistry, and attraction. But with her knowing that he was her opponent in the most important case for her, the atmosphere in Florida heated up between Mac and Patty.
Between trying to maintain the center and the feelings she has for Mac. Feelings they couldn't immerse themselves in because of a painful past, arduous work, misunderstandings and misinterpretations.
The story takes us inside a community that tries to keep its most important elements from deviating, the kids, by providing them with a place to release their energy.
Back and forth between what Mac thinks and how Patty feels. Between duty and upholding a promise, work and keeping love. What happens as the events continue? Will Patty succeed in protecting the center while maintaining her relationship? I'll leave that until you read the book.
The author successfully integrates love and work relationships, showing the barriers that can arise due to different perspectives and failure to set priorities. Besides introducing the supporting characters, such as friends like Barbara or community members like Hattie, smoothly fitting with their roles.
Although the book is the first in the series, the author didn't burden the story with details but rather succeeded in weaving the events and drawing my attention to know what would happen.
Presenting an image of a society with the presence of people who volunteer and raise awareness to protect children and create a better future for them is a wonderful point.
The language used is easy and modern, and the author has been creative in drawing the threads of the story that will please many. Although the nature of the story is more suitable for a mature audience.
Two things I think improving would make for a better reading experience. First, my copy has a white background, and that is comfy, but I would have preferred a larger or bolder font, as I needed to zoom in most of the time.
Secondly, the flower and the prominent thorns at the beginning of each chapter are a wonderful touch, but coloring them would have highlighted their impact.
However, what I mentioned previously didn't negatively affect my belief in the integration of the story’s elements.
The story is romantic, full of intrigue of love and the thrill of finding it. However, the storyline raises other topics such as family, friendship, the absence of a father, and solidarity. It carries many meanings of love, the value of promise, adherence to principles, and love.
Whispers in the Night is an enjoyable read with exciting events in a well-written romantic drama.
"Society carved a place out for people who didn’t have choices." And when someone is trying to destroy that society, it is the job of right-thinking members of the society to prevent such destruction, right-thinking members like Patricia Ryan.
The DuBois Center for the Arts, which has been the sole hope for the underprivileged children and youths of the community, is now under threat as the Mackenzy-Duran Company wants to acquire the center and tear it down for their own business expansion. Patricia, as the president of the volunteer Board of Directors for the DuBois Center, knows she has to fight and oppose the acquisition, knowing well enough that the fate of the poor children depends on her. No obstacle will prevent her from carrying out this humanity mandate, but when she ran into Mac Carter, the owner of the Mackenzy-Duran Company, she knew the fire his gaze and touch are igniting in her soul may be the start of her dilemma.
On the flip side, it wasn't easy for Mac Carter either; the survival of the business he had built from scratch is now dependent on the expansion. Love over business or business over love? None is surely an easy way out!
“Whispers in the Night: Book One of the Ryan Family Series” by Dorothy Elizabeth Love is a captivating blend of exotic romance, corporate politics, and family life in a new age America. Although the novel is centered around a conflict of interest between love and career needs, the book also examines critical topics including parenting and the consequences of parental absenteeism from the lives of their children, child education, and the consequences of not providing sufficient education for children in society as it leads to an increase in the crime rate.
Also, the flow of the plot is surprisingly smooth, raising tension, eroticism, suspense, anger, and comic relief where necessary. The book also presents a diverse cast of characters, including Patricia, a hardworking lady and passionate humanist; Mac Carter, a business guru and dedicated lover; and Barbara, an ever-trusted friend.
While the pacing is occasionally slow, and some dialogue could be tightened, these minor issues do not detract from the book's overall impact. The author has woven a complex and engaging narrative that explores real-world issues and relationships.
On the whole, “Whispers in the Night” is an engaging and thought-provoking read. It will be a suitable addition to the library of fans of romance, drama, and family sagas. It is also a good choice for those who want to learn about the unavoidable storms in a relationship and how to weather them.
Come on and join me to meet Patricia Ryan, a fierce and passionate woman totally dedicated to saving the DuBois Center for the Arts. For Patricia, the center is not just a building; it is a lifeline for her community, a hub of creativity, and a piece of her soul. But there is a big problem, Mac Carter. He's a smooth-talking, devilishly charming businessman with his sights set on something that clashes with everything Patricia stands for.
When these two collide, the sparks begin to fly—and not all of them are good. Mac's easy confidence and undeniable charisma push all of Patricia's buttons in ways she never expected. Drawn closer together, their opposing goals create a whirlwind of tension, chemistry, and unspoken feelings. In other words, Patricia no longer fights for the center but seeks to find out if she can balance her heart and mission without losing either.
It's honestly what makes Mac Carter so captivating and interesting to me: a complete and utter masterclass in transformation. First, he is that classic high-powered businessman: sharp, ambitious, and laser-focused on growing his company. Then, boom—Patricia comes along, and suddenly, Mac's world starts to tilt.
It is not just about the business anymore. You see a crack in his armor, especially with those raw moments with Patricia. You feel him pining for something real, something he has been so caught up chasing after. And then there is the way Patricia challenges him not with lectures but with her passion and purpose. It is as if she holds up a mirror, and Mac finally sees who he could be.
I guess what really gets to me is how the author crafted his internal battle. He is torn between this relentless drive that has brought him success and this new pull toward love and connection. And when he starts thinking about the company's plans, standing by Patricia's side is not just about the big gestures; it's about watching a man rediscover his heart.
This is a gem of a book for any reader who enjoys a tale of opposites attracting and character growth that seems so real and poignant. But what really makes this a 5-star read is how seamlessly romance, personal growth, and community values are incorporated. It's a deep story, full of poignant moments that linger on and on in the mind after one has finished reading the book.

This story is essentially the first title in Its Series by Dorothy Elizabeth Love. At the heart of it is Patricia Ryan, a powerhouse of a woman running the DuBois Center for the Arts, who puts her heart and soul into trying to stop its sale. Of course, If you thought life was going to make things any easy for her, then you must be joking. Enter Mac Carter, the man working with the company trying to buy the center's land. Cue sparks flying and complications.
As Patricia struggles to protect the center, she is equally challenged by a budding attraction for Mac. It is a love story as much about passion for community and art as it is about romance. The push and pull between her commitment to the center and her growing feelings for Mac create a potent brew of tension, heartache and hope.
What really makes this book special is Patricia herself. She is a fighter, leader, and believer in something far greater than herself, not just your typical romance heroine. Her drive is not just one plot point but seems like a love letter to the art and education world. It honestly feels so insatiable while watching her make fiery speeches across the city council, balance her schedule in crazy times, and just put everything into that cause. She is that kind of character who lives on far after the last page is read.
And of course, then there is the romance. Mac Carter is no mere love interest; he is a challenge, a connection, and motivation for Patricia to change her mind about what she really wants from life. The romance that comes into their relationship gives dimensions to the story, making it far more than some fight to save a building.
Honestly, if you are someone who believes in strong, multidimensional women or just loves a story about fighting for what matters, Patricia Ryan is your girl. She is a feminist icon in her own right, and this book is a gem, earning five stars from me, no questions asked.

I could not find a single flaw in this delightful book! It starts off by introducing us to Patricia Ryan, who is on a mission to save the DuBois Center for the Arts from being gobbled up by Mac Carter’s big-shot company. As president of the center's board, Patricia is all about giving underprivileged kids a shot at a good life and at something special. But here is the twist, though: she starts catching feelings for Mac. Yep, heard me, the very guy whose business could crush her dreams. The story is packed with heart and drama as Patricia has to fight with her principles, her growing connection to Mac, and the tough decisions she has to make.
If I could pick anyone to have in my life, it would be Hattie Mathison, no question. She is the powerhouse executive director of the DuBois Center and honestly feels like the kind of person who could move mountains with just her determination. Hattie’s got this incredible energy; she is always juggling strategic plans, hosting community events, and finding creative ways to rally support for the center’s mission. Her passion is extremely contagious, and she is the basically the glue that holds everything (and everyone) together.
But Hattie is not all business; she has this rich, personal side too. Her bond with Alvin Mills, who is a local police officer, adds some sort of warmth to her story, showing how she balances her heart with her hustle. And the way she connects with Patricia and Barbara? Pure magic. She is not just leading; she’s mentoring, supporting, and genuinely lifting others up.
Hattie believes with her whole heart that the DuBois Center can transform lives, and she is willing to fight tooth and nail for it. She is not just inspiring but proof that strength and resilience can create real change. Having someone like her in your corner? That is the dream, and I so love how the author gave us such a beautiful character; because of Hattie alone, I have this book 5 stars.

Patricia's compassionate nature and commitment to helping others stem from her supportive upbringing, while Mac struggles with the greed and cutthroat environment of his corporate background. Their differing perspectives create tension and growth opportunities as they learn to value each other's strengths beyond financial gain.

Whispers in the Night by Dorothy Elizabeth Love is the first book in the Black Love Series that hooks the reader to the story and feelings and passion. It is up and praising, very effective when introducing a woman named Patricia Ryan, who is a determined woman trying to save an important center for at-risk families. But one unexpected meeting with a charming stranger changes everything for her.
Everyone can find something worth reading here, and the author narrates distinctively and rather pleasantly, which makes the novel appropriate for those who are more into romances as well as for those who just want to read something good.
The emotional aspect is the major strength of the novel. But a person can relate to Patricia’s obstinacy and Mackenzy’s attempt to sort out his pride with affection. I liked their story, and it was easy for me to identify with them, especially when they made a wrong decision and when they reduced their defenses.
There are lessons regarding relationships that readers benefit from: the importance of effective communication, the need to fight for one’s principles, and the importance of being kind even when one is angry.
The author is creative and provides detail; you can easily picture everything and actually feel the emotions.

Patricia Ryan is the president of the volunteer Board of Directors for DuBois Centre, a centre that has been a shelter for 'At-Risk' families. The Mackenzy-Duran company, a company owned by Mackenzy Carter, is trying to purchase the land that the centre is on, and Patricia vows to do all it takes to make sure that does not happen. On her way to City Hall for a meeting concerning the fate of the centre, Patricia bumps into a man she is immediately captivated by. She is soon to find out that the man she felt an instant attraction to and is close to giving her number to is the competitor she swore to bring down no matter what. How will their love story unfold?
I absolutely enjoyed this story, as it is a very sweet and unpredictable romance. I like how confident Max is and how, despite the fact that he knew Patricia was who he was going up against, he still pursued her actively. How unpredictable he is is also very fun to read about. Showing up unexpectedly at her doorstep with two yellow roses and her wallet after she refused to give him her number was definitely a fun scene.
I would recommend this book to lovers of romance, as I am confident they would enjoy the book as much as I did. It has a simple writing style and an amazing plot. I have no criticism about the book whatsoever; I only have good things to say about it. I would definitely enjoy reading another book by the author.
