The Viper’s Lady is second in a five-book series and ends on a cliffhanger. It is a slow burn, modern-day retelling, loosely based on the legend of King Arthur. Aspects of the lore will be layered throughout the series, but it is not a fantasy romance. The FMC will eventually end up with more than one love interest, and the ultimate goal is for all the characters to live and love without limits. This is a world of secrets. Nothing is as it seems, and book one asked readers "Pledge with Trust." To make it to the next phase of The Quest, one must Live with Honor…
~~~~~~~~~~
I thought it was a joke.
Twenty-five thousand dollars for thirty days at my school’s elite fraternity, belonging to a so-called Knight who betrayed my trust, while the King charmed me with the promise of answers. I returned to Camelot Court with an axe to grind and one card to play. Ready to face the next challenge before leaving with the grand prize. But then, fate pairs me with the one Match that fills me with dread.
Still, I joined The Quest to win it, And nothing—no one—will get in the way of that.
The Honor Challenge won’t be an easy feat. Resisting temptation tests my inner strength and my limits, turning everything I thought I knew on its head.
As hidden secrets slowly reveal themselves, dark threats and unseen enemies emerge from the shadows. And I’m forced to face the truth…
The biggest risk has always been honoring what my heart truly wants.
And The Quest is a dark, dangerous game that we can’t stand to lose.
In 2023, Elle began writing again while processing grief and giving voice to pain she’d repressed for a long time. She found she had a lot of stories inside her, all shaped by her experiences as a mother, Registered Nurse, and female with ADHD and—what she hopes is very lovable—anxiety.
Elle’s characters are flawed, tiny pieces of her soul, and her stories often involve unpacking trauma, finding her characters’ voices, and reclaiming the freest, truest versions of who they are. Elle’s writing journey has been very much the same for her own life. Her stories vary in genre, sub-genres, and tropes, because she couldn’t pick just one.
But luckily, 2023 was also the year Elle Parker learned she didn’t always have to choose.
“One day…when all this is over, I don’t think I’ll be able to do that, you know?” “Let me go?” “Yes.” “Good.” I pushed up on my tiptoes to kiss him. “Because I’m starting to think I don’t want you to, either.”
After this book, I have a hard time believing Kingston or Landon will take the number one spot away from Max, because he's a dream.
I was living for every single interaction he had with Quinn, they were perfect together. Like, if this wasn't a whychoose book, I'd pick Max so fast, there'd be no contest.
Which is interesting because I felt like all three were perfectly balanced in the first book, but Max definitely got his chance to shine in this one and he took it!!
We got to see a different (and incredibly sweet) side of him, and I'm afraid he's completely won me over.
That's not to say that Landon and Kingston didn't have their moments too, through I definitely held a little grudge against the former for what he did to Quinn for the majority of the book. I started to like him again during a very specific scene where he wasn't the only participant. You know which one.
But generally, I loved seeing how safe Quinn felt when he was around, showing us that she still trusted him deep down, despite what happened. And I do feel bad for him, because there's something very clearly eating him up inside and he can't share what it is.
As for Kingston, I feel like we've been waiting an eternity for that kiss, I require even more Kingston content!! He's the one we know the least about, and he keeps holding back. I'm sure there's a very good reason for it, probably something to do with the big bad on top of the food (Court) chain, hopefully we'll learn more about it in book three.
But he was present when it counted, which is really all that matters. I also liked the very subtle, but noticeable, hints at something going on between him and Landon, and likewise something brewing between Landon and Max. I know Quinn will have a field day when they all admit their feelings.
And of course our girl, Quinn, who's been dealing with so much stuff from the start of the series, that she deserves an all-inclusive paid vacation somewhere peaceful, WHEN she wins The Quest, which she will!!
She does a lot of growing in The Viper’s Lady, being allowed to process her emotions really does wonders for her. She knows what she wants is within reach and she's ready to grab it with both hands.
But it takes her a bit to get to that point, so Gia's encouragement throughout her journey (even if they couldn't communicate for several days) was needed.
As much as I hate to see Quinn suffer, I like that she didn't just brush off what Vivian and her minions did to her, no, she's reliving her trauma over and over in her dreams, showing us that you don't have to be strong all the time, and that it's okay to not be okay for a while after experiencing something like that.
It's a lot more realistic that way than having her pretend like nothing ever happened. Healing is a slow process, luckily Quinn now has a support system of four, (or maybe five if we count Izzy) individuals to help her get through it.
Story wise, this was even more captivating than The King's Maiden, we got a few answers here and there, but there's still so much left to be uncovered. It's one of the things I love most about this series, it keeps me guessing.
Like, there's something that happens to a certain character, and I have two suspects, but one of them feels too obvious, but it also might not be the second one either, it could be someone I haven't even considered.
That ending left me going "What? No, they can't do that???" but apparently they can!!! I hope it doesn't come to pass in the way I'm thinking, if it does I'm going to jump into the book to protect Quinn myself, I swear.
On a lighter note, Gia is getting her own novella!! Three cheers for Gia and her totally sane and mysterious beau!! I need that beau to be a Knight sooo bad, please let him be a Knight. I can't wait for that, or for book three, I'm so excited.
*Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*
Oh this series and Elle captured my heart from the very first chapter in the very first book.
This series is like serious edging for the mind but in the most perfect and pleasurably painful way. I absolutely love that we hardly get any answers yet because it makes you crave the story and connect to the characters on such a deep level. We were however able to peel back a curtain or two in this book to get a better understanding of who the guys were and what kind of pressures they had placed on them. We also get to witness Quinn moving through some heavy emotions and not being shamed for how her body is processing the trauma.
I felt so many big feels in this story and absolutely fell harder for Max. I will always be drawn to the broody MMC in the books but we got to see a completely different side to him this time and that just made him even more delicious.
I was so happy we got to see another layer Kingston as well and to see Landon start to lean into what he believes in. This whole story was a rollercoaster ride of self discovery, tension, suspense, and hard lessons and I cannot wait for the next piece of the puzzle to be shown to us. Elle has such a creative vision for these characters and this story line that just makes you crave more even when we have to patiently wait on a cliffhanger 😂. Absolutely loved this arc!
I love this series, and diving into the second book in this series was even better. Giving us more in depth looks at our characters we get to learn a more about their reasons and motives, as well all of our MMC’s get closer to Quinn.
We still have so many unanswered questions, and I can’t wait for the next book.
I completely fell in love with this series after reading The King’s Maiden, and book 2 - The Viper’s Lady - was so good!!! This is easily one of my favorite series this year!
If you love jaw dropping secrets, a badass FMC, morally gray characters (or are they?????) and steamy scenes, this is the book for you!!!!
The tension between the characters is so good - you get this sense of suspense wondering what is going to happen next. Yes, this is a slow burn but there are still some very steamy scenes!
I love Quinn - she is so damn smart and witty and a total badass. I also love her friendship with Gia!!
“Tell me I’m a bad b*tch and I’ve totally got this again?” “You’re the baddest b*tch. And you’ve absolutely totally got this.”
We really get to know Max Dread more, as well as Kingston and Landon - there are so many layers to these characters. This book is emotional and full of mystery and suspense…and a uh…special sandwich 😉
Ok, so no spoilers, but I THOUGHT I knew what was going on…I WAS SO WRONG!!! We start to get some answers but then so many more questions pop up.
This is one of those books where you will be thinking about the clues and the characters long after you are done!
I fell in love with this series with the first book, with Quinn, her knights, king and off course Gia but there is so much more to this series. Elle is like Kingston and always is a few steps ahead. There are hints hidden in the first book that I didn’t pick up on the first time but after doing the omega read for this book and now doing another reread of both I discovered a lot more and I will probably discover new things when the series is complete and I do another reread. I just love Quinn, she is dealing with a LOT and still stays strong and sassy and I love that about her. She had me laughing and crying and I can’t wait to see her relationships with the guys grow. Max Dread, the dark and brooding marshmallow that is a little burned on the outside but o so sweet and gooey on the inside. I hope he stays his snarky self while also being soft for not just Quinn in the upcoming books. He is fast becoming my favorite knight but thankfully it is a why choose because there are two more MC’s that are not just loved by Quinn; Landon, I loved him from the first moment we met him at the pharmacy and my heart broke a little for him and the way everyone else sees him as a traitor or even a killer. I NEED to know what the big secret is about his past and his history with Max Dread. I love how Quinn brings out his less serious side and gets him to feel again and let go. And then there is the mysterious Kingston.The King with the vague oneliners who claimed Quinn for himself, or did he? I didn’t really loved him in book one but just knew there had to be more to him and let’s just say I went from sympathy to dislike to hmm he is ok to I LOVE him in this book. Quinn, O Quinn, what have you gotten yourself into with these men and can we please switch places?? And last but definitely not least Gia, the ride or die bestie. She is funny, supportive and isn’t afraid to tell you the truth even if you don’t want to hear it. She is the best friend every girl needs and the girl who needs her own story. I think Elle is a genius who created a series with the best main characters, humor, banter, amazing slow burn, spice and love while also hiding little hints and secrets and no matter how many times you read it you will probably discover something new every time.
I can not wait to find out what is going to happen next and if our foursome is able to love and live without limits because I am so ready for more orgasm sandwiches!!! Some questions from book 1 were answered and I was satisfied with them and I love that there is still so much mystery left to explore in the rest of the series.
I AM SO CONFUSED!! I loved this book, but my brain is absolutely broken trying to process what just happened. I might need a full-on dissertation explaining everything because I swear I don’t know if it’s my sleep deprivation or if this book is just that mind-bending.
And I have no idea what happens in that last scene and I need it explained to me like I’m a child!! The only thing I understand is that it’s fucking huge, and I think that’s why my brain broke!
That being said, I loved the way this book focused on Max and Quinn’s relationship. Getting to see the real Max Dread was everything I hoped for. The soft moments between them? Perfection. The emotional depth? Incredible. I was completely hooked on their dynamic.
One thing that did throw me off, though, was how the boys’ POVs felt more like riddles than actual insights. I love a good mystery, but at times, their perspectives felt more like they were speaking in cryptic messages rather than actually revealing anything new. It almost made their POVs feel redundant because they were clearly holding back major plot points for future books. While I understand the need for suspense, it left me feeling like I was getting more questions than answers.
Overall, The Viper’s Lady was a wild ride. I’m obsessed, I’m confused, and I need answers ASAP. But most of all, I cannot wait for the next book because I know things are about to get even crazier!
The way I was so stressed and frustrated with this book 😂 the way I CRAVED for her to cave to Max, the way I craved for her to confront Landon and make him explain, to the way I wanted to punch Merle (Max’s dad) in the got damn face 😂; I can’t STAND that f**ker and he’s sooo creepy lol
This one ended on a cliffhanger just like the first one but instead of ending it with “what the f**k” it ended with a “oooooooh sh*t 🫣”
This book to me felt way less chaotic and more streamlined with a lot of “f**k yeah Quinn, you show them!” I couldn’t put it down once I started. It is still fast pace but the baseline is set and you can enjoy watching Quinn be a total badass.
I put this one off as long as I could cuz I KNEW of the cliffy and that book 3 isn’t out yet. Now I have to mournfully sit and wait for book 3🥺
*Why Choose *Contemporary *Multi-1st-PoV *Arthurian Retelling *Academia *Secret Society *Billionaire MMCs *V’rg!n FMC *Slow Burn *Building Harem (3) *Book 2/4 Who can be trusted?! Ooo our fiesty FMC is back and she’s coming for those who’ve wronged her! Not necessarily out of revenge but to prove her worth and that she can win these quests 💪 She isn’t afraid to be clear about what she wants and hold those in her way accountable- there’s also character development in her admitting her role and accountability for her part 👑 It’s clear there is more going on with Landon’s betrayal and that it’s cutting him up, but can Quinn see past her rage for him? Kingston has the without of it all on his shoulders and is juggling various outcomes, he’s a great manipulator but is it all for our girl? I feel so sorry for Max Dread in this one, definitely feel he’s the misunderstood party here, been labelled a certain way and yet he’s got a heart of gold and will willingly put Princess first 😍 Her relationship with each completely differ and then add in the building of spice in this book and 🔥🔥 There’s a few twists in this one and things thrown out there to make you think what is this actually all about and who is running this show making it an engaging and enjoyable read 😄 looking forward to the next book and what quests will arise next!
i knew after finishing The King’s Maiden in January i was going to be in for a great time with The Viper’s Lady, and i absolutely was not disappointed! i actually think i finished this book within 48 hours like i did with The King’s Maiden! and that ending?! i need book three now!!
answering a lot of the questions i was left with at the end of the first book, The Viper’s Lady also gave me so many new ones! filled with a bit of mystery and so much tension, this was a phenomenal second book to the series. i love that we got to see Landon, Max and Kingston interact a bit more while protecting Quinn. it showcases their relationships quite well! Max will always be my favourite and idc what you say. 😘
and Quinn, ugh. i love her! i felt she had so much growth in this book and is really honouring who she is and what she wants! we love a girl who goes after what (or multiple whos) she wants. 😏
if you’re a fan of why choose romances and you believe in the idea of trusting the process, i highly recommend the four book Camelot Court series! The King’s Maiden is out now, The Viper’s Lady out on April 29, 2025, and (hopefully) book three before the end of the year!
The Viper’s Lady – I had the chance to read an ARC of this book and wow… I’m hooked! I love how different this story is! The blend of archaic traditions mixed with modern day wealth and real world dynamics is done so well. It’s twisted, yet weirdly relatable.
This is the second book in the Camelot Court series and it dives right back into the heartbreak, trust, healing and secrets that defines this world. The FMC goes through so much but she handles it all with strength and grit, she’s a total badass. I’m loving her journey as she comes into who she is and finds her voice.
I found myself falling for all of the MMCs (especially Max.. and Kingston.. Landon already had me). The way the author builds these layered protective MMCs is perfection! There’s a constant sense of mystery and danger throughout with lots of twists and turns—I couldn’t stop turning the page.
I still don’t know what the endgame is or what’s truly at stake and honestly that’s what makes this series so addictive. Elle Parker knows how to keep you guessing and I need book 3 immediately!
Quinn didn't come to play when it came to getting back into Camelot Court.
I'm just a torn between the guys as she is!
The Viper's Lady done played with me, in the best way possible.
I love a good Dark Knight that makes me question his motivates and actions, Max Dread did that. Showing sides that took me by surprise and had me waiting for the other shoe to drop, and kept me waiting. Landon, sweet Landon, he has many more questions, that moment he stands up for what he wants and shows Quinn exactly that, loved it.
This was a chess game being played from the beginning. You saw moves that answered questions and moves that brought more on. I loved that Quinn was her true self through out it all even when things got rough and had to rely on trust.
The Viper's Lady doesn't leave you on a crazy cliffhanger as the first book, don't get me wrong it still does its a actions have consequences type ending. There is still a whole game and quest to be played!
Can't wait to see how Quinn and her guys story plays out in the next one!
To say that I am obsessed with this series is an understatement. Quinn Everly is literally such a badass bitch that I wish I could be her. She knows what she wants and is not afraid to go after it with everything that she has.
I am still a Max Dread stan. Like, he is my number one book boyfriend currently, I can’t get enough of his broody attitude. Landon, at the end of this book was thrilling, honestly, he is finally remembering his past, and I can’t wait to read more about that. And finally, Kingston, I was coming around to him more in this book because he was more present as well. You can finally see the wheels turning and what is causing all of his secrecy.
The Viper’s Lady has so much mystery that goes along with the romance (if that’s what you want to call it), and the why choose theme is literal perfection. I mean it when I say that I can’t get enough, and I need both books 3 and 4 to be out now so I can devour them over and over again.
The Viper’s Lady by indie author Elle Parker is the second book in the Camelot Court series and I 👏 ATE 👏 IT 👏 UP!
In the first book I struggled to reconcile the logistics and maintenance of the established yet mysterious secret society. By book two I was completely indoctrinated. I let go of needing to make sense of the practical function behind everything and just lived for the drama.
Did I grow as a person? No. But it fed some other part of me that grew up loving Real World and reality tv.
Camelot Court is a modern day why-choose college romance series that’s loosely inspired by King Arthur. Parker does a great job weaving elements of Camelot’s lore throughout the story and I’m very much looking forward to reading the rest of the series, which is slated for rapid release!
This was such a good book, and I got more of Daddy Max! 😱🫠 There were so many plot twists in this and I can not wait to read the next one, because that plot twist boo! 🤯
🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ - I’m living for this spice! The mystery is top tier but the romance and smut are legendary!!
This book is the second in the Camelot Court series, and wow… it built beautifully on everything I loved in the first one.
I love that we got more of Max freaking Dread in this book! His parts were just 🤌🏻. That ending with the hint of some ⚔️! WHAT!!! 10/10, would sell my soul to get book three early.
I still really love the concept of this series, but this book was slow and really confusing. I lost the plot. I couldn't wait to be done with it.
FMC is no longer a Maiden, but is now a Lady in the next phase of the Quest, but I'm not sure what any of that means. And MMC Landon has amnesia about something and MMC Kingston has all of the secrets but his favorite line through the whole book is "You'll see," when it isn't "I can't tell you that." Well, I'll tell you what I CAN, Kingston - YOU are ANNOYING. MMC Max doesn't like Kingston or Landon, but OMG WEIRD, he can't say why. Seriously, the secrets are exhausting and honestly a big reason why I was so confused through the entire book.
And IDK, but Quinn is just really spineless and irritating in this book. I enjoyed her in the first one, but she's so whiny here. She started out with some real fire and I wish that carried through the rest of the book. It didn't.
Also, a couple of phrases I could do without hearing ever again in this series:
- climb him like a tree - inner sex goddess
I *think* the storyline is leading to Kingston and Landon having been lovers and that's part of what Landon doesn't remember, but I'm not sure. I hope that's the case, because I love that for them and I love an MMFM. I also suspect that Quinn isn't actually a virgin, that she also has a secret sexual past somehow linked to the Camelot Court, either from her past (the memory whispers) or more recently during the Quest.
I get that this is basically a middle book and it's job is not to find resolution but to move the plot along, but it didn't need to be so slow. Speaking of slow, this takes slow burn to a whole new level. There is very little spice (I would say 2 out of 5 stars), although the FMC finally loses her virginity in this book. It's reverse harem, but b.a.r.e.l.y. We'll see how that evolves in future books.
I still have so much hope for this series and I plan to stick it out and see how they all turn out, but I significantly lost interest with this one. There was simply too much stick and not enough carrot. Readers need a payoff to keep them hooked.
The letter from Quinn at the end was pretty clever, though. I'll give her that.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
So first off thank you to the author for letting me read this book and receive an ARC copy. I was lucky enough to ARC read the first book and absolutely devoured it!! That cliffhanger was insane, so I’ve been looking forward to the second book so I can have answers to my question because I was confused. This book picks up right where book one leaves off. I feel like there’s more drama this time around. I love it!! We also get a better understanding of all the boys so Max, Landon and Kingston because they’re all going through things. They all have different motives but at the end of the day they all really care for Quinn. Quinn is trying to figure some stuff out and I mean she originally signed up for this to just get some money, do what was best for her and then she kinda ended up in this crazy little love square. I do love how at the start of the book she came in and meant business and handled it. She did what she had to do to get back in the games but also with that being said she had her guards up, especially against Landon, but also Kingston. Then Max was kind of just there, but I loved how she opened up to Max and they developed a really sweet relationship. She got that one on one time with him because I feel like in book one Landon had a lot of the shine and time with her and then there was Kingston. So newfound appreciation for Max after this book. I’m still trying to figure out what the drama is going on with Kingston‘s dad. I’m intrigued, but I’m like what’s going on what does this mean? I wanna know what his big secret is and while I don’t feel like this book ended on a cliffhanger I still have questions that need answer so I need book 3 ASAP!! I just need to know and then side note, Gia is getting her own book so that’s really nice. I love her, she’s such a lighthearted and funny character. Glad to hear that she’s getting her own book.
Tropes: 🖤 Why Choose 👑 King Arthur Retelling 🖤 Dark Academia - College 👑 Secret Society 🖤 Enemies to Lovers 👑 Spicy Slow Burn 🖤 Broke College Girl 👑 Billionaire Heirs 🖤 Burnt Marshmallow MMC 👑 Orgasm Sandwich (MFM) 🖤 Cliffhanger
Main Characters: Quinn, Max, Landon and Kingston
Stand out lines/quotes: “Now, I wish I could openly show you how much I’ve been longing to touch you.”
My Thoughts: My mistake was reading the first chapter without reading book 1, a mistake that I quickly resolved and boy am I glad I did. Book 1 was great but book 2… I think I might in love with Quinn. Or maybe Max… no definitely Landon, oh but Kingston. Screw it, I love all of them!
This series has me in the BIGGEST CHOKEHOLD! Book 2 picks up right where book 1 left off which I LOVED! We start off strong with Quinn being the absolute baddie that she is and using the court’s own rules against them to get herself back into The Quest. From book 1 I’ve been obsessed with Max Dread and we get SO MUCH MORE of him in this book! My obsession with this man truly knows no bounds. I was obsessed that we got more of Max, Landon and Kingston’s POVs in this book. It made me fall for each of them even harder. Quinn is everything to me. I’m girl crushing hard for this woman. She was so real in this book. Coming to terms with her wants, needs and desires and learning to voice them?! I was so freaking proud! I’m loving the growth we’re seeing from each of the characters. So much is revealed, yet there’s so many more questions at the same time! I have a full on list of theories and guesses to where I think things are going haha. Elle’s writing is magic and I’m patiently (impatiently) waiting for book 3!
ARC Review - The Viper’s Lady by Elle Parker. Why choose romance. Modern day King Arthur retelling.
The second book in the why choose series. I loved the enemies to lovers in this one.
I’m glad that Quinn remained true and still stuck to her guns about winning The Quest, no matter who or what got it the way.
This was a sad, funny and exciting book all in one. I loved the banter and I do have a secret favorite who I do hope Quinn will end up with.
Girl bestie is a must! The part where the red flags all look beige?! I had such a laugh at that scene.
Generally I’m not a huge fan of why choose tropes but Elle did it right from the first chapter of the first book. I can’t wait for the rest of the series!
If I thought The King’s Maiden had me hooked, The Viper’s Lady completely sealed the deal. Elle Parker has created something truly addictive with the Camelot Court series—a world brimming with mystery, tension, chemistry, and characters who are as beautifully flawed as they are compelling.
With book two, we dive even deeper into the secret society lore, masterfully blending modern stakes with old-world traditions. The Quest's layers continue to unfold in ways that feel fresh, surprising, increasingly dangerous—and RED HOT—and I was glued to every twist. Every clue, every challenge, every threat pulled me further under. The world Parker has built feels immersive and alive, a place where hidden agendas, coded challenges, ruthless ambition, and emotional warfare collide. It’s unquestionably riveting.
What truly sets this series apart for me is how thoroughly Parker explores her characters. Every interaction, every decision, feels intentional and rich with subtext. You feel the weight of their choices and the burn of their mistakes. Quinn’s growth shines in this installment—she’s still fierce, still stubborn, still her gloriously independent self—but we also see her vulnerable edges as she grapples with trust, betrayal, and her own evolving desires. Watching her open herself up, not just physically but emotionally, adds a whole new layer of depth to the story.
The Quinn who showed up for the Honor Challenge is not the same girl whose utter devastation at the Knights’ Quorum was so deeply felt. Before I began reading The Viper’s Lady, I re-read The King’s Maiden, and doing so proved incredibly beneficial. I picked up whole new nuances I hadn’t caught the first time—and it made the emotional payoff hit even harder.
And the men of Camelot Court? Max, Kingston, and Landon each bring a different emotional pull to Quinn’s journey—and Parker masterfully layers in the slow-burn, crackling tension between them. Max is a broody burnt marshmallow; the snark that intrigued me in book one continues, but a sexy, sinful softness where Quinn is concerned emerges—and I was so here for it. As the story continues, Max blooms the more we get to know him. He doesn’t back down for anyone. But he recognizes that Quinn is his, and ugh, my heart!!! I legit cannot get over Max.
Then there’s Kingston—quieter, more distant, and far harder to read. He carries the weight of old loyalties and impossible choices, and it shows in every tense moment between him and Quinn. While he keeps his distance, he still manages to offer her a sliver of hope through small gestures, choice words, subtle clues that hint he might be preparing her for what’s ahead. It's never enough to fully trust, but just enough to make her wonder. His restraint is palpable, and the strain it puts on his bond with Landon adds an extra layer of tension to an already fractured dynamic. Why Kingston holds back, why his help is so limited, remains a mystery, but one thing is clear: whatever is keeping him from acting more openly is tearing him up too. Whether Quinn can truly trust him? Only time will tell.
And Landon? He’s obviously miserable, fraught with righteous indignation and outright anger over the request he followed for his best friend, his king, while still trying to maintain his loyalty. Each man challenges Quinn and yet they also protect her. Their possession is deliciously dangerous and achingly real. Watching the push and pull between them is half the delicious torture, and Parker makes every charged moment count.
Speaking of slow burn—The King’s Maiden gave us a masterclass in exquisite tension, but The Viper’s Ladyleveled up. Parker promised us a spicy series, and she delivered in the most satisfying way. I’m so glad I trusted the process because as the saying goes, good things come to those who wait—and this payoff? 1000% fire.
The pacing is fantastic. Parker hits all the right story beats to keep the tension simmering, the stakes high, and the intrigue climbing higher with every chapter. I was fully entertained the entire way through, torn between devouring it and savoring every page because I didn’t want it to end. The momentum never lags, and every scene feels purposeful, driving the story toward bigger reveals and even higher emotional stakes.
The cliffhanger feels a little softer compared to the first book, but it’s still devastating knowing I’ll be waiting months for the next chapter. I’m desperate to know where this twisted, captivating journey will take us next. The final scenes hit like a punch to the chest, and I closed the book, already counting down to the next challenge. But Elle Parker threw readers a boon though: Gia, Quinn’s ride-or-die, is getting her own book and I cannot wait!!
The Viper’s Lady cements this series as a must-read for fans of extra spicy slow-burn, secret society romances with fierce heroines, complicated heroes, and plots that keep you guessing. Elle Parker has built a world I never want to leave—and trust me, you’ll be just as desperate for book three as I am.
With book one, readers were asked to "Pledge with Trust." With book two, we were asked to "Live with Honor..." And I’ve absolutely done both.
Bring on book three and its challenge—I am ready to risk it all.
I had the chance to read this book as an early ARC, and I want to thank Elle once again for the opportunity.
This is book two in the Camelot Court series—a story set in college, though it feels more like a brotherhood—with a deliciously slow-burn "why choose" romance and plenty of mystery.
And yep, if you're looking for immediate answers, this is not the book for you.
But let me tell you who will love it: readers who enjoy the wait. Those who want to share the characters' frustration—and excitement—as they piece things together, patiently holding on until everything becomes crystal clear.
Elle Parker did an incredible job building tension—not only through the reader’s questions and theories but also through the characters’ own uncertainty. Because guess what? They don’t know much more than we do!
The main characters each hold their own story—and their own secrets—and nothing is quite as it seems. We uncover fragments of the bigger picture only when they let bits of information slip past their defenses… or when they don’t. Some truths are hidden behind silent oaths, and breaking them isn’t easy.
If I had to describe this book with one word, it would be: Promise. Another? Probably Share. And not just in a sexual way—though, yes, that too.
I mean share as in giving something of yourself to someone else and receiving something just as meaningful in return. Words. Actions. Trust. Love.
This book is the perfect bridge between what we discovered in book one (The King’s Maiden) and what I’m sure is coming next.
Because eventually, we will get the answers. And I know it’ll be so worth it.
Anything I say could be a spoiler, so I’ll stick to some objective, totally random facts like:
You’ll be seeing a lot more of Max Dread compared to the first book—and it’s going to be epic. Prepare to fall in love with the Dark Knight. Or just fall to your knees.
Landon doesn’t get as much time in the spotlight, but both his presence and his absence leave a mark. And before you know it, you’ll be screaming at Quinn to just go for it already.
As for Kingston… the secrets he’s hiding? Way heavier than we could have imagined. You’ll see a version of him that’s more human, more reachable. And the moment he opens his mouth? You’ll want to follow him. Anywhere. Right now. Take us, Kingston.
Gia might be my spirit animal. Or spirit person? Either way, she’s a hilarious, supportive, ridiculously smart badass. And I can’t wait to see what’s next for her.
Elle has this incredible way of telling a story that feels so natural. Her writing flows effortlessly, packed with action—not the physical kind only, but the kind where you never know what her characters will do or say next. She often saves us from the classic “if-only-they-talked” tropes, giving us something more raw, more real, less literary cliché.
Quinn? Quinn is literally any of us. Us readers, dreaming of a why choose life while still trying to keep our feet on the ground.
And her men? Three twisted, dangerously attractive, secretive forces of nature that, one way or another, will make you believe you deserve more. More of them. Literarily speaking—unless you're open to a little polylove.
So here’s my take on this second book: I literally can’t wait for the third. Now tell me—what did you think of The Viper’s Lady? I’ll share mine, if you share yours…
The Viper’s Lady by Elle Parker ✨🔥 (aka: the moment Max Dread claimed my soul and I cheered for every angsty, slow-burn second of it 😮💨)
Let’s be clear: if you aren’t already obsessed with The Quest, what exactly are you doing with your life??
Because book two—The Viper’s Lady—took everything I loved from The King's Maiden and turned the dial all the way up. Secrets? Spilled. Tension? OFF THE CHARTS. Steam? Let's just say... there’s a sandwich and it ain’t from the deli, babe.
👑 Modern-day King Arthur retelling meets dark academia with a sprinkle of soul-snatching slow burn and a whole buffet of emotionally complex, dangerously hot, loyalty-torn men.
Oh, and Quinn? She’s that baddest b*tch we’d all swear our lives to. “Tell me I’m a bad b*tch and I’ve totally got this again?” “You’re the baddest b*tch. And you’ve absolutely totally got this.”
🎯 Let’s talk Max Dread—our grumpy, gooey-centered marshmallow who rose from intriguing to top-tier fantasy. If this weren’t a why choose book, I’d be eloping with Max in a heartbeat. Every moment he shared with Quinn had me kicking my feet like a schoolgirl on caffeine. He sees her. Protects her. Challenges her. And holy hell, he shines.
💔 Meanwhile Landon’s carrying a secret that’s eating him alive, Kingston is still King-ing in mystery and silent angst (but OMG that kiss?! finallyyyy 😭), and Quinn? She’s clawing her way through trauma, betrayal, desire, and a game that might just destroy her. She’s fierce, vulnerable, and finally realizing what she wants—and she’s ready to take it.
And don’t even get me started on Gia—ride-or-die bestie, truth-teller, and queen of chaotic encouragement. I need her and her totally mysterious maybe-Knight situationship to be canon IMMEDIATELY.
🕵️♀️ The plot?? Think you know what's going on? You don't. Elle Parker leaves breadcrumbs, drops bombshells, and ends this thing with a cliffhanger that had me SCREAMING. You will need therapy. Or a support group. Or maybe just book three… ASAP.
What You’re Signing Up For: ❤️🔥 Why Choose 👑 King Arthur Lore (with a twist) 🎓 College + Secret Society Shenanigans 💋 Enemies to Lovers 🔐 Forced Proximity 🥪 Special Sandwich (you’ve been warned) 🖤 Burnt Marshmallow MMCs 💔 Mental Health Rep 🔥 Spicy Slow Burn 😱 Clues, Twists, Cliffhangers & Chaos
If you love morally gray men who fall hard, heroines who fight harder, and a plot that peels back layers like a sexy, twisty onion—you need this book. And the next. And probably a reread to catch all the Easter eggs Elle sprinkled in like a literary goddess.
Final Verdict: Max is mine, Quinn is queen, and The Quest owns my entire life now. Bring on book three. I’m so not ready... and I love that for me. 💀📚🔥
Quinn feels betrayed by Landon’s decision, it wasn’t what she expected, but there is more at play than they both realised.
She will not accept defeat, by invoking a by-law, and outing those that hurt her, she remains in The Quest.
The next challenge pairs her with Max. These two, the tension was palpable, the attraction undeniable, but before they can accept what is between them they must learn about the other, test limits, boundaries, accept that they both have flaws, and in a perfect world they both live by a set of expectations that will either in their favour of be their downfall.
Because this challenge poses dangers and threats that Quinn, Landon, Max and Kingston didn’t expect. Someone is out to get Quinn. She knows that she doesn’t belong in there world, but she will not be pushed out, she is determined to make it through.
Quinn doesn’t give trust easily, yet the expectation between Landon, Max and Kingston is very high. They expect her to give them everything without giving back in return, for Quinn this is unacceptable, that despite what she feels for them, things are changing.
Pieces are moving on the chessboard, shifting. Kingston carries many heavy burdens, but so do Quinn, Max and Landon, and when all comes to a head, they’re forced to accept some startling truths, truths of Kingston and Landon’s relationship, but Landon’s love for Quinn and her acceptance, but more so the development between Quinn and Max, and their acceptance of their feelings for each other.
Quinn has accepted the inevitable - Kingston, Landon and Max are hers. They have all laid claim to her in their own way, they now all have to learn to navigate this new dynamic for the sake of the woman they love. But if that cliffhanger was any indication, Kingston may have likely bitten off more than he can chew and in doing so put Quinn, Landon and Max in the firing line, which may result in one or all getting hurt.
Here’s to anticipating book three and how it all unfolds for our illustrious characters.
Looking forward to Quinn’s relationship developing more with Kingston, but more so how it will evolve with Max. Landon has made his feelings pretty clear with how he feels for Quinn, making her first time perfect. The spice was spicy, hot, steamy and on point!
Recommend both the author and the book.
I received an ARC. Therefore, I am submitting a voluntary review.
I will attempt to keep this review as spoiler free as possible, but the names of the MMC’s will be included, so if you don’t want to know that information and you haven’t read The King’s Maiden, please stop now. I would hate to ruin any aspect of this story for anyone. Just know it’s amazing and you all should go read it! I always go into a why choose book knowing at the very least, I will have fun with some new sexy book boyfriends. I know there will be some top tier tension and banter, but a why choose retelling of King Arthur’s Camelot with a secret society and sexy trials? Say less! I came looking for the book boyfriends, but I stayed for the insanely strong and complex FMC, her funny, scene stealing best friend and a mystery that I simply cannot wait to unravel. The Viper’s Lady is book 2 in Elle Parker’s modern day Camelot retelling. This book picks back up with Quinn, our freshly betrayed FMC, trying to salvage the pieces of her broken heart. After surviving the first trial of the quest, and fending off multiple attacks, Quinn thought Landon had her back and she was sailing through to the next challenge. At the last minute, Kingston orders Landon to make a devastating decision, that will erase all of the progress he and Quinn just made. This decision will challenge all of the thoughts Quinn has about the men she thought she could trust and may lead her into the arms of their enemy. The mysteries around the history and trajectory of Camelot will only increase in this book, but the developing relationships between Quinn and her men will keep you reading and wanting more. Through it all, Quinn will start to deal with her past trauma and learn to trust herself. She will take hold her choices and own what she truly wants, no matter how impossible it may seem. She will not let miscommunication or secrets undermine what she knows about the men she cares for. Kingston, Landon and Max will stop at nothing to keep her safe and come to the realization that sharing Quinn may be their only option. The queen is ready to take her throne and she will need all her men to get her happy ending. The story of this series is really just beginning. I know there are going to be some jaw dropping revelations to come. In the meantime, I am enjoying the ride and I think you will too!
Finishing this book feels like I just drank a bottle of potion with all the ecstasy in the world. We were left with jaw-dropping cliffhanger at the end of Book One so from the start, The Viper's Lady already picked up on the anger we all brought from the previous story.
Quinn's anger is well-represented. I'm angry alongside her & her attitude where she basically gives no fuck to mostly Kingston and Landon satisfies me. I like how she carries herself with honor & how she gives no shit and puts all the guys in place after what they've done to her. It's like a reverse card; she forces them to play by her rule. So badass in a way. Plus her friendship with Gia is excellent; a true image of healthy & uplifting fellowship between girls. And may I say the way Landon manhandles Elaine at the party is jus so. Well. Done? Poor Barbie cannot have the Ken of her dream.
There's so many things going on in this book. Cards being revealed and the characters are developing as the story progresses. Here, we get to see a more sensitive side to Landon and Kingston. There's something about them that's just intriguing. It keeps me on my toes and whenever they interract I cannot help but feel "do they have something?". They give me this vibe that just makes me want to shove them into a closet to just kiss and make up. Golden Boy and the King? The appeal is everywhere, please don't blame me.
But talking about character development and appeal, of course we cannot miss our burnt marshmallow MMC. Max Dread? Sold. Oh my God, love him in this book. Love his smartass comments and dirty humor. I think one of the selling attributes of this book is how Elle Parker writes Max so well. For me, he doesn't make me fall in love with him through all those sexy remaks (which tingles me in the right spot, no doubt) but how he adresses his vulnerability and spits out truths. Because in the first book, we saw him as a villain who hated everyone including Quinn and now he's here admitting stuffs we didn't expect. He's so eloquent with his words too! How else am I not supposed to swoon?
There's also briliance in the way she writes the thank-you letter. Personally, I've never seen anything like it. We've heard of "them" speaking to the authors but not with us in the same scene. It gives a more personal reading experience and connection. Genius!
𝑨𝒖𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒓: Elle Parker 𝑩𝒐𝒐𝒌 𝒕𝒊𝒕𝒍𝒆: The Viper's Lady 𝑹𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈: 5 stars
𝑴𝒚 𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒔: I’ve been eagerly awaiting the second book in the Camlet Court series, and it just keeps getting better with each installment.
I really appreciated the character development of Max and Quinn. Quinn is strong-willed and ambitious, with one goal in mind: to win. Her determination was admirable; it helped her through the various missions, and I was rooting for her from the very beginning. Despite everything she faced, she held her ground.
We learned a lot about Max and how he was soft only for her and him as a person. I appreciated that while still waiting to learn more about his past. Their growing closeness, even while Quinn maintained her emotional walls, was a joy to witness. Their conversations, especially the line, “I’ll share mine if you’ll share yours,” were heartwarming and added to the overall enjoyment of the reading experience.
The rare moments between Kingston and Quinn felt refreshing. Even though they were brief, they left a lasting impact and added an exciting element to the story.
As for Landon, the chemistry between Quinn and him was undeniable Even when Landon hurt her, broke her heart into pieces, I think he's the only one who can put the broken pieces back together.
Overall, the second book was a delightful read and well worth the wait. It was a satisfying continuation of the series, and I found myself enjoying it even more than the first book.
I'm grateful for the opportunity to read this book in advance. Thank you for the ARC.
The second book in a fabulous series set at D’Arthur University where the elite are part of the secret society known as the Brotherhood of Knights, that’s loosely based on the Knights of Arthurian legend. The Knights have chosen their maidens to advance to the next stage of the quest with the heroine Quinn, finding a loophole in the rules that will allow her to continue despite her Knight’s rejection. Now, for this next stage all the feisty Quinn must do face the honour challenge and resist the advances of another knight whose task is to seduce her.
Picking up the story from where the previous book left off, The Viper’s Lady sees Quinn more determined than ever to win the quest no matter what it takes and she’s got a lot of opposition, not only the requisite mean girls but senior members of the society and she faces attacks from all quarters but are they intended to kill her or merely scare her? And if all that wasn’t enough, for the latest challenge she’s been paired with Max Dread, the one Knight outside Landon and Kingston she’s felt more than a little attraction for.
The banter between Quinn and Dread and pretty much everyone she comes into contact with was fantastic and she definitely didn’t let anyone get to her at least in public and the steam factor was off the scales albeit this was a relatively slow burn romance, the foreplay was still sizzling, building the tension especially when Dredd and Landon put aside their mutual hatred for Quinn’s sake. I’m loving all the characters even if it seems chivalry was left at the round table when it comes to these Knights.
Once again, the overall story was complex and intricate, laden with so many twists and turns, it was like a game of chess but not the standard version, more the 3-dimensional version with more than one board in play adding layers of strategic depth to the plot. Everyone seemed to have their own agenda and right now Quinn appears to be at the centre but why? And after finishing this book more than ever I’m firmly on the side of Team Dread, gotta love the bad boy, Landon and Kingston are coming across as being weak, and they are both really going to have to up their game if they’re going to stand a chance of winning their fair lady.
This book infiltrated my mind, woven its way down into my soul and is now holding me captive. Do not negotiate for my return I’m never coming back!
You think you know what’s going on in the book with Landon, Kingston, and of course Max… but you’d be wrong… I’m still trying to puzzle it out and I love mysteries I have so many thoughts and ideas of what I think is going on! I can’t wait for my interview with Elle in a few days!
I love Quinn talk about Queen Bee 🐝 energy she is chefs kiss. All the moments with her and esp Max in this book were so good. But then with Landon the tension, pain, and passion whoa! 🤯 Kingston we know so little but there is something so gentle and sweet about the moments with him! I love that we really get to see more of each of them and then all together.
This book enthralled me, captivated me, and left me begging for more. I literally wrote Elle once I finished to ask when and if the next book would really be September or hopefully sooner… I need the next book after the cliff I’m hanging off of!
One day…when all this is over, I don’t think I’ll be able to do that, you know?” “Let me go?” “Yes.” “Good.” I pushed up on my tiptoes to kiss him. “Because I’m starting to think I don’t want you to, either.”
“You’re way too fucking beautiful for any of the stupid pricks at this party tonight.”
“F$ck my life. F$ck Max Dread and his stupid d$&!-measuring contest. F$ck Kingston for not stepping in. And f$ck Camelot Court for making this moment possible. And for good measure, let’s throw in one for Landon Scott. I didn’t know what exactly he’d done in this scenario, but I had plenty of reasons to shout out a fuck you to him, too. Everybody gets a f$ck you. I was basically Oprah.“
