Phillipa lives just outside a beautiful town in country Victoria, Australia. She also lives in the many worlds of her imagination and stockpiles stories beside her laptop.
She writes from the heart about love, dreams, secrets, discovery, the sea, the world as she knows it… or wishes it could be. She loves happy endings, heart-pounding suspense, and characters who stay with you long after the final page.
With a passion for music, the ocean, nature, reading, and writing, she is often found in the vegetable garden pondering a new story.
In this second book in the series Charlotte and Rosie continue to run their book shop in Kingfisher Falls and also continue to annoy Sid, the local policeman, through no fault of their own. When a murder is committed he tries to put the blame on Charlotte and she is forced to clear her name.
Luckily Trevor is on the other end of the phone and, as a policeman himself, is able to offer sound advice - that is when she tells him what is going on which is not always! There are scary moments when Charlotte is being followed, and a nerve wracking scene at the top of the Falls. There are also some nice developments in our main characters' relationship.
I enjoyed it very much and look forward to seeing more of Charlotte and Trevor in future books.
Charlotte Dean loved Kingfisher Falls where she’d moved from River’s End, and she loved her job working for and with her friend Rosie in the local bookshop. Charlotte often walked up to the lookout at the falls, with the beautiful scenery and maybe spotting a kingfisher which would be a highlight. But the day Charlotte and Rosie heard one of the locals had died, was the beginning of strange occurrences, mysterious notes and creepy phone calls, and Charlotte couldn’t work out what was going on.
Charlotte was doing her own sleuthing, and someone didn’t like her doing it. When Rosie had her home broken into, but refused to let her son Trevor know, who was a policeman at River’s End, Charlotte wondered at the secrets Rosie was hiding. She knew she herself was hiding secrets, but her past wasn’t open for discussion. What would Charlotte discover and who could she trust?
Deadly Falls is the 2nd in the Charlotte Dean Mysteries by Aussie author Phillipa Nefri Clark, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Plenty of tension, twists and turns, and chilling danger kept me turning the pages and I was completely involved from start to finish. Charlotte is a great character and Rosie is a sweetheart. I’m looking forward to starting #3 sometime soon. Highly recommended.
I have been looking forward to this book since I finished book one and MS Clark has not disappointed me, things are getting a little more sinister in the small town of Kingfisher Falls, when a local is found dead, is it an accident or murder and Charlotte Dean is finding that working in the bookshop is not as peaceful as she thought it would be, as she puts her mind to work trying to find out the truth.
Charlotte is very much enjoying her job in the bookshop with Rosie, things have settled down after the thefts and problems around Christmas, she is still wary of a few of the locals who live there, including the local police officer, so when said police officer Sid Browne arrives urgently and needs her help to check on the health of Octavia Morris long time local, Charlotte is pulled into a web of mystery and lies where she is second guessing the motives of everyone in town.
Charlotte is very good at keeping secrets and with her past history finding out she is being watched puts her on edge and with threatening phones calls this brings out her detective side and she takes a few risks investigating, she has a few suspects and finally when some detectives arrive to investigate and her friend and Rosie’s police officer son Trevor arrives she is forced to give up her evidence to help solve the case.
I really did enjoy this installment in the series, a one sitting read, there is a lot going on and I didn’t guess the guilty party till the very end, MS Clark had me changing my mind a few times, this is a fast paced story, the characters are bought to life on the pages, and there is still a few people that I am sure will cause more problems for Charlotte in the next book. Then there is the relationship between Charlotte and Trevor that is warming up very nicely as Charlotte finally opens up more about her past. Yes this is one that I do highly recommend bring on the next one I say, thank you MS Clark another keeper I can’t wait to be back in beautiful Kingfisher Falls.
Charlotte's curiosity can get her in trouble, especially when she tries to investigate a murder. Items slipped under her door may be steering her wrong. Will Trev be coming back to his home town? Charlotte has things in her past that hold her back. Will she get past them? Looking forward to grabbing the next book in this series.
Although I am still slightly befuddled from the characters that enter this books from a previous series (River's End mysteries), I've gotten the gist enough to enjoy this, the second in the Charlotte Dean Mysteries. There is certainly the sense of a village emerging in this second book, with characters from the first book revisiting this one and a community building up. The mystery itself was very cosy, and if you followed the clues enough you could guess who it was going to be. I didn't guess until the last couple of chapters. Kingfisher Falls itself sounds beautiful, and I'm sure it will feature in further Charlotte Dean books. A good read.
I'm really liking Phillipa's style of writing, so much is going on but in an enjoyable way and it's not long before the next mystery is upsetting the settled life Charlotte was beginning to feel.
Fast paced page turner with descriptive writing and a really good mystery, more character development for Charlotte and lots of interesting characters to pave the way.
Deadly Falls by Phillipa Nefri Clark. Love this series. Charlotte is adjusting to life in Kingfisher Falls. She is enjoying her job and her new house. Things take a turn when a long time local is found dead and Charlotte is required to attend the scene as she is a doctor. Local police are treating it as an accident but Charlotte has her suspicion that that is not the case. She starts investigating and that’s when strange things start to happen. A great read and looking forward to the next instalment.
Book Club Murder in Kingfisher Falls is book two in the Charlotte Dean Mysteries series by Phillipa Nefri Clark. Psychiatrist Charlotte Dean needed a change and decided to work at Bookshops in Kingfisher Falls when an unexpected death of one of the residents of Kingfisher Falls, Charlotte Dead, decided to investigate the murder. The readers of Book Club Murder in Kingfisher Falls will continue to follow Charlotte Dean to discover what happens.
Book Club Murder in Kingfisher Falls was originally called Deadly Falls. Phillipa Nefri Clark's updated Deadly Falls was re-published with a new cover and title. I enjoyed reading Book Club Murder in Kingfisher Falls and had no trouble engaging with this book's plot. I love Phillipa Nefri Clark's portrayal of her characters and the way they interact with each other. Book Club Murder In Kingfisher Falls was well-written and researched by Phillipa Nefri Clark. I like Phillipa Nefris Clark's description of the setting of Book Club Murder in Kingfisher Falls, which allowed me to imagine being part of the book's plot.
The readers of Book Club Murder in Kingfisher Falls will understand the stress that can affect medical professionals during their working lives. Also, readers will learn about running a bookshop in small rural communities.
Love this cozy mystery series! Intelligent, interesting, great scenic discriptions, suitable for all ages. Each new book offers quality characters and a solid mystery. Really enjoyable!
I loved Phillipa Nefri Clark's book 2 of 3"Deadly Falls (Charlotte Dean Mysteries.)" This series should be read as a series as one book ties into the next in the story. In book 2 Charlotte's life is settling into a more normal pattern after the thefts that occurred around Christmas. Charlotte and Trevor's relationship also is taking a turn for the better as she opens up about things from her past. Looking forward to "Deadly Secret's - Book 3."
Deadly Falls Charlotte Dean Mysteries, Book 2 By: Phillipa Nefri Clark Narrated by: Carla Kissane
Charlotte Dean has moved to Kingfisher Falls for the peace and quiet the town could give her. Working in the bookshop seemed ideal! But what she finds in this second installment is things are never what they seem. After the first book, we knew life was going to be exciting, but now faced with with a murder, things are definitely taking a turn for the worse. With an untrustworthy police chief leading the bunch, Charlie is suspicious of everyone in town. And with her past, the threatening phone calls and feeling of being watched just adds to her nerves. Now her detective skills are in high gear, and what she finds is going to put her in more danger. Will she give up the evidence to solve the case? And who is stalking her and why? You will have to give this one a listen to find out!
Carla Kissane continues her amazing narration of this series with her many voices. I love the aussie accent and she makes the listen fly by. I enjoyed her performance.
Oh my, I couldn't put this book down! My 2nd book of 2021 already...
Charlie is still at the bookshop with Rosie, when one of the main thorns' in their side gets murdered, someone tries hard to point the finger at them, so Charlie goes sleuthing again to find out the truth, the trouble is, will she come out of it alive!
There are 2 new Detectives brought in to find the murderer, which Sid doesn't like at all, then there's the reason Trev (Rosie's Son) keeps turning up!
Lachie also makes an appearance in the book, the lovable 8 year old who is such a charmer.
This is a book set I have got to binge read, I read the 1st book, left it a few weeks then read this one, but now I've got to read the rest.
Best read in order as this book referred to the mystery in the 1st book, which is a follow on from another book in a different series by this author.
I discovered this author this year and really enjoy her books. Anything with a bookshop attracts my attention and this one is a very good murder mystery with romance included. Pleasant characters in a small town setting in Australia, this is a delightful cozy mystery. This is free on Kindle Unlimited this month.
You will fall in love with the characters. I have enjoyed reading this series. Author has the gift to make you feel like you are reliving the story. If you love mystery series - try this reading Charlotte Dean Mysteries.
Better than the first book but still filled with too much fluff and too many tears. For a psychiatrist she's absolutely terrible at dealing with her own issues and makes incredibly stupid decisions. Honestly not that likeable a character.
This is Book 2 in the Charlotte Dean mystery series. After reading book 1, I wanted to find out more about the lead character and was not disappointed. More of Charlie's past is revealed, which helps explain some of her quirks. The familiar characters are a little more developed and we get to see more of their interesting traits. The story is well paced with some twists and turns.
The president of the local book club is dead - not a nice woman - was it and accident or murder? Charlie & Rosie had an unpleasant interaction with her at the bookshop before her death and suspicion is thrown on them as possibly being responsible.
Charlie tries her hand at being a sleuth to find the truth and clear her name, and of course has some close calls with danger. Sid, the local police constable is useless and can't be trusted, hence doing her own investigation.
She is being targeted with threatening phone calls and incriminating photos left under her door. Sid seems to have it in for Charlie since the day she arrived in Kingfisher Falls.
I really enjoyed this book, having to read "just one more chapter" that ended up several more chapters each time. At times I did get a little annoyed at Charlie's stubbornness, going it alone and putting herself in dangerous situations, when she should have confided in Rosie's police officer son Trev a lot sooner.
Looking forward to the next book in the series and further development of the relationship between Charlie and Trev.
Wow, this tale "bookends" right with Deadly Start, aka The Christmas Tree Thief (bk#1), and really, all the questions I had at the end of bk1 are answered in Deadly Falls! All of the excess baggage, the secrets Charlotte brought with her when she moved into her new digs in Kingfisher Falls, why she left her life as a practicing doctor of physiology and started working as a clerk in a bookshop, and why the effing hell is the local policeman (Sid Browne) out to get Charlotte, as she's only been in town since just before Christmas a month or so ago?!?? Oh, and why isn't Charlotte trusting her own instincts? Things really heat-up when one of the bookclub ladies is found dead! So yeah, you're gonna NEED this book to find out what happens next, and why it happened 🤔!
The book was an absolute delight, captivating me from start to finish. The narrative unfolded with precision, offering unexpected and compelling plot developments that kept me thoroughly engaged. The author's skillful character development brought each persona to life with remarkable depth and authenticity. The intricate storytelling and nuanced character arcs created a rich, immersive reading experience that left me eagerly anticipating the next installment in the series. The writing was so compelling that I found myself completely absorbed, unable to put the book down until I had devoured every last page. I am genuinely excited to see what the author will deliver in the upcoming book, confident that it will be equally, if not more, enthralling.
This small town of Kingfisher Falls certainly has had its moments. For a quiet town, there is drama that takes place and Charlotte being the curious, amateur sleuth can't help but find the answers. Poor Octavia is found dead and no one suspects it's murder but Charlotte. Love the characters of Charlotte Dean Mysteries and how Rivers End is still mentioned, gives you the community feels with their long lasting friendships. Phillipa has been very clever with this series, hinting other mysteries among her storytelling which makes me want to keep reading until I found out everything about Kingfisher Falls and its residents.
So, not being a true mystery fan, I valued this book more for its characters and their relationships. Ms. Clark does a wonderful job with her characters... Always a nice variety of semi quirky individuals in her books, and the really good ones get to move on to the next book. In this one, there were lots of nasty types that hopefully won't make the cut. Glad Charlie is moving ahead with her life, albeit too slowly and with very little confidence but to see Trev again, I'll wait her out. Hoping she gets help turning into a normal person in the next book.
When I don't keep a book on my kindle I dock 1/2 star but Clark delivers a clean, fast-paced, intriguing cosy for teens and adults. This is a stand alone book even though many from Charlotte's first mystery at Kingfisher Falls appear here again. The plot is fresh and a couple of the characters from the Christmas tree episode in the first book that readers loved to hate show up here to keep the reader guessing. Clark does a good job entertaining her readers so enjoy your book!
Another great crime/ mystery that Charlotte Dean gets herself involved in again. This one once again had me not wanting to put the book down at bedtime. There are some pretty shady characters in this small town, I'm kind of glad I don't live there. I do love Lachie and his family he's such a cute kid. I'm also glad Charlotte is ready to start sorting herself out and things might be moving forward for her in other areas of her life. I am looking forward to picking up book 3.
audible:Another good book with Charlotte Dean as our ever, suffering ,hero.'Sid' asks for her help, then accuses her of doing the deed. Will someone please ,throw this man off the falls?! Carla Kissane was a fine narrator. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Deadly Falls is not your ordinary cozy. It is set in a small Australian town with the requisite number of peculiar townspeople. The amateur detective, Charlotte, has many layers of problems and secrets. This makes her a good detective, but the compelling force for the entire series.
Another interesting and at times unexpected revelation and insight into the lives of those living in this delightful town. Seems Charlotte cannot stay out of trouble for long but she seems to be toning it down a bit as her relationship with Trev develops. Loving the way Phillipa interweaves the lives of the characters. Book 3 please.
