Marylyn wasn't Marylyn. And Myles wasn't Myles. Greta had a car accident and everything changed. Marylyn was cheerful and good natured. And she also had insights to people lives that were sometimes profound and could have only been arrived at through long observation. Marylyn helped people see their lives from new perspectives and she saw something remarkable in a Celeste who was an expert at managing attempts at friendship by flicking them off like a bug. She had been on the streets and was hardened to life but Marylyn showed her she was something exceptional. However Marylyn was secretly troubled that she remembered nothing of her history. People respected and admired Marylyn and she was sought after as a friend and confidant. Would they feel the same about Greta?

Name Confusion

Liam could do without this. There were other cases that demanded his attention. But he had to get Greta to realise what was going on and leave it for her to sink in so he could deal with it in the morning when he could call a neurologist friend of his. ‘Greta. My name is Liam. But you’re calling me Karl.’

She looked confused. ‘Are you sure you’re alright Karl. What time is it, midnight. How do you work these long hours? But what would we do without people like you Karl. People who…’

‘No Greta I have to keep moving, I want you to realise something. You’re…confusing names. What’s your name.’

‘Marylyn.’

‘So when I say Greta. You hear Marylyn.’

She looked confused. ‘When you say Marylyn I hear Marylyn. Are you sure you’re okay Karl?’

He had to put a temporary patch on this. ‘Marylyn… I mean Greta, you’re suffering from a condition called… ‘Name Confusion’.’ Liam made that up. ‘Myles is not Jacob’s name.’

‘Myles isn’t Myles’s name?’

‘Greta. You may have sustained some mild concussion yourself. So no one is going to ask you to leave. You can stay here as long as you want, and we may want to run some tests tomorrow for what I’m sure is only a temporary condition. So until then let people know you’re mixing names up a bit and it might get confusing for them, but not to worry.’

‘So if they call me Marylyn, I’ll tell them I’m not Marylyn, I’m Maryl…are you sure you’re okay Karl?’

Lentils

Cameron was loving this. Celeste was never disoriented. Ever. ‘Better get to work. We gotta do the right thing by…Maitland is it?’

‘Yeah. I should have let you know about that. I’m going to call Maitland Maitland for a while. It’s temporary though. Of course now I’ve figured out what I’d call a baby girl if I was ever lucky enough to have one. And if I'm not able to have a child I'll be ready with a name for my granddaughter. But like you say. Time to get to work. I’ve got to get some serious bread won here.’

They went to box of lentils and Celeste handed Marylyn a box cutter. ‘Be careful while you cut the tape with the blade. Not deep and off to the side until you get the hang of it, or you’ll cut into the stock.’ Marylyn cut into a bag of lentils. ‘Like you did then.’

Marylyn opened the box. ‘Oh. S word.’ She reached in.

‘And then don’t take them out or…just like you did then…the lentils will spill out everywhere on the floor.
