Quick morning read/listen !! I haven’t had the pleasure to read an Alexa Riley book in a hot minute and it was soo worth it !! Everyone said he was a predator but y’all knew what type of book this was going to be!! You knew he was an alpha hole when all this started. Remember when he started slapping a computer like Zoolander to get the information out of it. This was absolutely insane but it was entertaining to see the least. The only thing I didn’t like was that she told him he had to pull out, girl you are on top slap him and jump up !! I realize everyone believes he’s a predator because he made her exchange her body for “essentials” but she agreed !! By no means was he in the right and he was manipulative but not a predator!! The scenes were smoking hot, the narrators were sexy and the pacing was great!!

December 25, 2024This has spoilers in terms of the intimacy between the characters, with quotes, so I remember the story and what I thought of it. SPOILERS AHEAD! If you don't want to read ahead, I say avoid the first short story, but read the second short story!
I wish AR separated these two short stories. I hated the first one, but I loved the second one. I won't give it a general star rating.
Story 1: "Snow Much Plowing"

No history on H (but in story 2 his sister, who is the heroine in the second story, says that he is like her, in that he doesn't date anyone, but the way he talks about 'a man having needs', suggests to me when he needs to fuck he does. So I hated that.)

No stupid third act break up
No HEA (no epilogue written, they just get ready to get married)
This is the story of Mia and Nolan. Nolan owns a successful snow plowing business. The whole thing was mostly one sex scene after another, all through his POV. I did not like how he treated her at first as it felt gross. Her car was stuck under snow, she could not get in her home, she was freezing, had no money, was hungry and he used that to his advantage. Instead of seeing her state and being helpful, he instead got a hard on and figured out a way to sate his need to fuck. He convinced her to pay via sex. The whole paying for sex as a kink is not my thing but she felt that she needed to settle her debt via sex as he instructed. She didn't have a choice but to accept. I hated it.

“But,” I say as I take a step in her direction, “you’ve got a way to make
a payment.”
My cock aches as her brows pull together in confusion. This is wrong,
but I’m a man, and I’ve got needs. Plus, no one has to know. I’m not sure

The way he talked to her was demeaning, mean, rude, harsh, brash and none of it sexy. Their first encounter in his truck felt so sleezy, like how he would treat a 2 bit whore. It was all through his POV too which did not help. He orders her to take her pants off, he attacks by sucking her clit and making her cum, only to pull her on his dick impaling her with it.

Later he fucks her some more when he is at his house, and it was very dub/non con, (and normally I can get behind dubcon noncon play, when written in a way where both enjoy the role play), but this was not that. Since it is all his point of view, he tells her that he wants her forever, wants to breed her and have her babies (which I love that normally), but the whole time she thought that he used her for sex as currency, until he tells her he never meant it, and that he wanted her for keeps. The "romance" and sudden warmth of his feelings for her feel shoe horned in. The sex felt gross.

“That’s where you’re wrong.” I brush my lips over hers and then look

The ending doesn't jive with how all this started. There is no epilogue, but none is needed since I don't think anyone would believe this would ever end in a HEA. I don't believe it. I don't recommend this first short story, but I HIGHLY recommend the second!!
Story 2: "Accidentally Blackmailed"

He had his account which he used to chat with her and dummy accounts, so that no other men would chat with her. When he and his dummy account personas asked for her number or pics, she would not give them out. I am so glad, (and so was he), because it meant that she was not interested in any way in who she thought were other men she chatted with. It was simply curiosity that they both joined this site being what they can only describe as asexual, but when he met Lucy and dug into who she is, he fell in love and lust FAST. Turns out they are asexual towards everyone except each other, where they are a fiery ball of passion, lust, heat needed to be sated ONLY with each other. With this newfound discovery, he turned into a stalker and studied her. He finds himself in her living room and they have all their firsts in person.
THIS WAS FANTASTIC! What a little gem!!! EVERYTHING I love about DV is in here. I love that they are LITERALLY each other's first EVERYTHNG! That includes getting turned on for the first time and cumming for the first time! The fantasy for me in DV, is that the heroine gets ALL of her man's firsts, knowing there are no other women before or after her. She alone lights his heart, his soul, his body and his cock ablaze with passion. Only SHE is the one to get him hard, SHE is the only one to make him want to fuck her into oblivion because only SHE can inspire him to want sex and intimacy. And of course, same with her. No man turns her on, and she only ever wants intimacy with Hollis. That is so rare, and so special, I wish we got more couples like Lucy and Hollis in the romance world. This is one of AR's best and already on top of my favorites list. I will be reading this short story very often. I really wish Alexa Riley would write more couples like Hollis and Lucy, I wish every couple were like them. This was a little gem for sure and made my Christmas morning a happy one! I HIGHLY recommend it. I would skip the first short story and just read this second one.

Snow Much Plowing - 2 stars.
I realise that there are lot of problematic themes in the romances I read, but this one felt too predatory — probably because the MMC almost immediately offers the stranded/cold/hungry FMC a sex-for-food/shelter deal, and the story is entirely from his POV. This would have benefited from the FMC’s POV.
Accidentally Blackmailed - 3 stars.
This was more fun! The FMC gets stranded with her hot blackmailer/stalker, cue dubcon galore — but it’s ok because she’s into it! There was also a surprising amount of story (not a lot, just a surprising amount), because we got some flashbacks to how they first met and an epilogue as well.

Let me start off by saying that I HATED the first of the two books. Snow much plowing was barely a 2 star. I save 1 star reviews for books that I can’t make myself finish. Had this been any longer it’s a good chance it would have been a 1 star DNF. The book was completely from the male’s pov and it was disgusting. She’s poor, desperate, in a freezing house with no food and is out of options. The man (I normally use an H for the male in these reviews but I can’t because he is no hero) has barely met her, sees she’s in a desperate situation and immediately goes into “you can pay me with sex”, takes her virginity in his truck, pressures her into unprotected sex, uses the word titties…I could go on but I need to start forgetting this book. The second book, Accidentally Blackmailed was much more palatable. The guy was a total stalker but somehow was still likable. I didn’t hate it.

Snow Much Plowing features two short, steamy stories set during a snowstorm. While both stories are quick reads, they didn’t quite hit the mark for me.
Book 1 – Snow Much Plowing
Nolan Pruitt, a successful but bored bachelor, picks up a call from a woman in distress during the storm. He rushes to help her, but when she can’t pay for his services, he offers her an alternative form of payment. This was my first smut book, and I quickly realized they might not be my genre. The story is told entirely from Nolan’s POV, leaving the woman’s character feeling underdeveloped and one-dimensional. There was no backstory or depth to her, and overall, the story felt rushed and off. I listened to this via Read Me Romance and only pushed through to finish it.
Book 2 – Accidentally Blackmailed
Lucy gets blackmailed by a tech billionaire who becomes obsessed with her after discovering her on a Reddit/Discord-like platform. He shows up at her house randomly - because he is a stalker - to take what he wants. While this story was less graphic than the first and a bit easier to tolerate, it still had too many plot holes to fully enjoy.
Epilogue: Seeing them end up together was a satisfying conclusion, though their dynamics and behaviors throughout the story were undeniably unconventional (and borderline crazy). It was a wild ride, but one that left me with mixed feelings.

The story is told entirely from Nolan’s POV, leaving the woman’s character feeling underdeveloped and one-dimensional. There was no backstory or depth to her, and overall, the story felt rushed and off. I listened to this via Read Me Romance and only pushed through to finish it.
Book 2 – Accidentally Blackmailed
Lucy gets blackmailed by a tech billionaire who becomes obsessed with her after discovering her on a Reddit/Discord-like platform. He shows up at her house randomly - because he is a stalker - to take what he wants. While this story was less graphic than the first and a bit easier to tolerate, it still had too many plot holes to fully enjoy.
Epilogue: Seeing them end up together was a satisfying conclusion, though their dynamics and behaviors throughout the story were undeniably unconventional (and borderline crazy). It was a wild ride, but one that left me with mixed feelings.

-the hero was not my favorite- the heroine needed help getting her car out of the snow, the hero noticed that her car was the least of her problems, she was ill prepared to survive the winter so he told her that he could keep her safe, he knew she didn't have any money so being the "stand up" guy that he was he persuaded her to pay him with sex... I wouldn't have had a problem with that if the hero had acted differently, I just didn't like the way he treated her and the way he spoke to her, maybe having her POV would've helped...

-HFN/no epilogue (the last chapter ends with them getting ready to get married)

I had such mixed feelings about these stories. The first one felt icky to me. The whole story was in his POV which I didn't mind but he would say some very derogatory comments that made me think maybe they were roleplaying. No such luck. The first story I would give it 1 Star.
The second story was a lot better. Hollis really was obsessed with Lucy and would do things that Lucy fantasized about. The man knew everything about her. They were explosive together. That story I would give 4 stars.

DNF both stories. Nolan is a rapist, and I can't be bothered to care about his sister and whatever her story was gonna be about. Man told that literal poor girl to use her body in exchange for shelter and food during a terrible blizzard, where her only other option is to die in the elements. Then, came in her by force after she begging him not to. Jail isn’t enough! YUCK.

Two spicy short stories. Not a fan of the first - little to no info about the heroine other than the hero falls into insta-lust/love and takes advantage of her being in a bad situation and lots of dubious consent. Second story gives a little more development to the two leads, and the relationship feels less questionable.

Hard no. I enjoy taboo romance but this was way too far for me. This was told in the MMC’s POV and I just kept thinking that this is why most women choose the bear.
