In His Good The Story of the Church in Singapore 1819-2002 /// This is a great Christian product sourced from BIML- Bible In My Language, the leader in foreign language Bibles and outreach materials from Baltimore, Maryland in the USA. BIML stocks Bibles in more than 600 languages.
The story of Singapore isn’t just one of a great trading emporium for the British Empire.
Raffles was joined by Robert Morrison (who translated the Bible into the Chinese vernacular) in his quest to set up an educational institution in 1823. William Milne who was a scholar, Bible translator and educationist also lent his support to the setting up of education in Singapore. Rev Samuel Milton and Rev Claudius Thomsen both besides being preachers, started learning the local languages and started schools for the local children by teaching them about God. Benjamin Keasberry started a school for Malay boys that even the Malay rulers sent their children to.
The Christians in Singapore then set about to address problems like opium, secret societies and the abuse of women.
Reading this book in 2019, the year Singapore celebrates its bicentennial year. The book is aptly named "In His good time". I hope a 4th edition of the book would be written. "Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labour in vain" (Psalm 127:1). To God be the glory!
