Claimverse #4

Knot Sharing the Ice

Rate this book
Four pro hockey alphas, one driven figure skating omega, and an unexpected blizzard that turns up the heat…

After dumping the ex who saw my skating career as competition, all I want is some time to perfect my routine before my family sucks me into their quaint but corny Christmas traditions.

Instead, the rink I rented to have all to myself is invaded by the Reapers. A pack of four impossibly hot, competitive alphas that plays for the fiercest professional hockey team in the region.

Whatever. I've dealt with worse than sharing the ice for a few hours, even though I'm having to share with alphas who keep shooting hungry looks at me from across the rink. Alphas who keep calling me Cotton Candy.

And so what if they smell like the most decadent candles at the nesting shop? I'm a pro at getting into the zone and tuning out distractions.

At least until a blizzard gets us all stranded together, and my heat picks the worst possible time to kick in. Because I'm just lucky that way.

As the Reapers rally around me to turn our hometown community center into a halfway decent nest to help me ride out my heat with no strings attached, one thing becomes abundantly clear.

These alphas definitely don't mind sharing.

And they're playing for keeps.

This low-angst, high-heat WhyChoose OV romance has nesting, marking, scent matching, fated mates, four cocky hockey alphas, and an omega who doesn't have to choose between love and her dreams.

This is a sweet little omega-verse novella, and i quite liked it.
There is just one little picky thing that bugged me … like EVERY time i seen it. At the start of every chapter after the name of the chapter there is a drawing of a grim reaper. Like seriously WTF 🤣🤣🤣. Wrong book buddy 😳

Cute story. It was nice to see these all come together. The only complaint I have is that every time the story was just rolling along, Jayce would do something to pull me out of the story. What I'm sure was supposed to be playful and carefree came across more as immature with no impulse control that really only thought about one thing. He was just very one note and it wasn't a good one for me.

2.5 ⭐️

This one was definitely better than the previous book I read from this author, but simultaneously it was just okay. The only reason I'm giving it the 2.5 stars is because for a small town whirlwind romance it somewhat works. I definitely do have qualms with it though.

The first issue I have is that at the beginning when Ember is first able to scent the pack she says that Adder smells like bourbon and pine, then her heat starts and all throughout it she says he smells like mint and snow, and then by the last few chapters she once again says he smells like bourbon and pine. Last I checked mint (snow is a subjective scent so that's whatever) doesn't smell anything like bourbon or pine for it to even be used as a synonym for the original smell... so clearly there needs to be some editing done regarding that.

Secondly, we literally know nothing about the pack at all other than that they are hockey players, 2/4 of the guys last names, that Carter's hometown is the same as Ember's, that the guys usually spend a few days with each of their families in separate places for the holidays, and Jayce reads library books about omegas. That's it. There is literally nothing else we know about them. I was expecting that there would at least be more information where we actually got to know the characters, or that there were on page discussions between characters that tells us more about them, but that didn't happen even a little bit.
Also, I find it super strange how it's supposedly a small town the both Ember and Carter grew up in but she didn't know him at all. Then at one point her mother says "oh i bumped into Carter Thomas at the grocery store, he's in town for the holidays" with a familiarity towards him, with the clear undertone that he should've been something Ember should recognize (in general, outside of their scent match). Then, when the pack went over for Christmas Eve somehow the mother didn't have any familiarity towards Carter, and he had to introduce himself. So it just didn't make sense.

Additionally, there was definitely some sort of favourtism being shown in this book considering that she only ever had emotionally connected sexual situations with Carter (first to sleep with her, the shower situation, marking), and then the most regular romantic situations were mainly focused with Mason (bumping into in town, their group date). The only other romantic situation that happened was between Ember and Jayce, and Mason was also present. Although both Jayce and Adder may have been involved in them there was by no means as much representation or connection regarding them... especially with Adder, there was no connection or additional situation between him and Ember at all. Plus she did mostly gravitate towards Carter. All of which is not something that's indicative of a good pack dynamic, there's not supposed to be a preference for majority of things towards one pack member.

Overall between than the last book I read from this author, but by no means is a win.

Chances are, I'm going to love it.

I don't think I've ever read an omegaverse novella, and I was concerned about the pacing, but honestly this was decently paced.

Ember didn't immediately fall for the guys, this was a true they fall first story. The guys are instantly all in, but Ember is fresh off a breakup and has no interest in meeting any new alpha, let alone a whole pack. She has career aspirations that her ex did not care about and doesn't want another alpha to try and hold her back.

Overall, I enjoyed this book, however, originally Adder smells like bourbon and pine, and then like a chapter later he smells like mint? They had a whole conversation about him smelling like something only for it to immediately be different?  And then it's back to bourbon and pine at the end?

Cuatro estrellas ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was such a sweet and hot omegaverse story! The romance was seriously drool worthy and the book was a page turner. I could not put it down! I love an independent omega who doesn’t want any alphas telling her what to do and being cautious when she finds her scent matches. I loved watching the alphas prove to Ember that they were not like the other alphas she dated and were there to support her. Carter is my absolute favorite, it’s always the quiet ones that rope me in. Forced proximity, snowed in, surprise heat. This was such a cozy read for a snowy day!

How can I not appreciate a short but sweet omegaverse with a driven omega and four hockey alphas? This book was a very quick read and one that wasn’t drawn out. There wasn’t a lot of build up but there was enough that you felt you could connect with the characters. Even though there wasn’t a lot of time between when the MCs met, you were able to see their personalities through their actions. This was the perfect omegaverse to read when you don’t have days to get you’re your Alpha/Omega fix. Omegaverses being my favorite genre, I appreciated that I was able to quickly read this and get my fill of sweet alphas, a strong omega, and the spiciness of a heat out of nowhere. I definitely wouldn’t have minded a longer story with these characters, but it fit perfectly with the time I had to read it. There wasn’t a plethora of side characters, so we got the opportunity to focus on this scent matched group.

Ember was a more than appropriate name for the FMC. She was a spark, able to quickly burn down the world under the right circumstances. She had a bit of trauma from her ex that demanded her to choose him over her career. This attitude put her off all alphas because she was not meant to be the weak submissive omega. This belief that all alphas would hold her back got in the way of her connecting to these alphas at first, assuming that they would control her life. But what we saw was completely different. These men were so kind and wanted everything good for the omega that they immediately knew was their scent match. And even though they were sweet and caring, they each had their own personality. My favorite by far was Jayce. The fact that he continually put his foot in his mouth made me chuckle. But I adored each of the alphas and the way the cared for Ember.

This was the perfect short, sweet, omegaverse. It gave you all the things you crave in an omegaverse, but I was able to read it in a few hours. It was spicy and packed with swoon worthy alphas that were all sexy hockey players. Add on top of that the strong, determined, driven omega that refused to bow down to an alpha, and you got a great story that was a quick, fun read.

✔️MFMMM why choose novella
✔️sweet omegaverse
✔️hockey players x figure skater
✔️they fall first
✔️surprise heat
✔️fated mates, scent matches

I love sweet omegaverse stories, and I was very excited to dive into this one! In the end, it ended up just being okay, and I am a little disappointed with it if I am being honest. One major positive is that the Omega (FMC) is a strong, independent individual who knows what she wants out of life and won’t give up her dreams to fill the “perfect omega” role. When she finds her fated mates (scent matches) she is skeptical, so this is definitely a “they fall first” story, but she is open getting to know them and not let biology completely call the shots. I love that she learns that when you have the right partner(s) they’ll lift you up and stand beside you as you reach for your dreams and goals.

Now the negatives — there are a couple of continuity errors. A couple of times it seemed like the author wrote certain details but never went back to check what was already written before mentioning that thing again, so it was incorrect. The main negative, however, is the fact that only two of the four Alphas (MMCs) have distinct personalities. In every story, but especially polyamory stories, each person needs to have a distinct personality, or else they just get lost in the shuffle. When you have five main characters there is already a lot going on and my brain shouldn’t have to work so hard to keep the characters straight while I’m reading.

The overall story is cute, the spice is well written in my opinion, and it has all of the typical omegaverse tropes that you would expect, but I think the negatives overwhelm the positives in this case.

It's hard for me to find an omegaverse that I enjoy these days, especially one that's "cozy" or holiday-themed, but despite being both of these things, Knot Sharing the Ice really worked for me.

What won me over was the FMC. She was great. I like strong main characters in general, but I especially like reading about strong independent omegas because they're so rare.

Even though I'm about as far away from an athlete as the moon is from the sun, I could totally relate with the FMC's professional fears and relationship insecurities.

Her characterization was done really well. She didn't come across as too stubborn or unappreciative of her guys - but her fears were valid and she wasn't going to sweep them under the rug without reason. I respected that.

This wasn't a long book, so I was also very impressed the author was able to pack in a good amount of relationship tension and angst, without making it an unnecessary angst fest. There was just enough tension to keep you interested while still staying within the "cozy" sweetverse genre.

The only thing that kept this from being a full 5 star read was that the guys weren't sufficiently developed.

I think maybe if Lennox wrote the male leads as a trio instead of a quad (perhaps mixing Adder and Mason into one guy instead of separate MMCs?) their characters would have stood out more. As it was, they were a little bit forgettable and at times, indistinguishable from each other.

Despite the cons, this was an enjoyable winter-themed book to close out the year with, so I'm happy.

📖 My Thoughts
I picked this book after promising to myself I wouldn't pick another hockey romance. The cover of this book drew me in, but don't let it fool you, the spice does not match the cover tone. The story is sweet and the alphas are kind Golden retrievers. When they find themselves having to share the ice with a figure skater, they treat her with respect even if she's a bit miffed. I loved all of this story except for one bit that took me out of the book (see spice rating). It was a palate cleanser after reading one-too-many feel good holiday books. I will read other books by this author.

The alphas are super respectful of the MFC. They take their cues from her. The spice is very hot and plentiful and includes nesting and knotting.

After reading another story by the author, I quickly picked this one up.

There was a lot to love about this story.

I adored how the males were committed to her from first smell. They are all about making her comfortable and not wanting to rush or scare her.

I loved how snappy Ember was with her comebacks. While surrounded by Alphas, this is one omega who holds her own.

I enjoyed getting to see them figure out how life will work for them after the heat. Ember gets time to figure out what she wants. Seeing them around her family helps a lot. They live in two different towns and have different travel demands for their careers. They find ways to make it work.

Ember's sister helps provide a sounding board and some comic relief as she both supports Ember, but also calls her out.

There were a few continuity issues with character descriptions and details. It just had me double checking who was whom while reading. Definitely think the story as a whole overcomes these moments.

Story was a fun ride that I could see myself reading again.

This was a very cute, feel-good read! The plot was simple and low-angst, revolving mostly around the guys hoping to be accepted by their scent match and overcoming her fears of being pressured to give up on her dreams. Given the FMC’s reluctance, this was a true he (they) fall first.

Ember is the kind of woman that knows what she wants, and is tired of Alphas dismissing her dreams. I loved how prickly and unwilling to deal with BS she was. Even when vulnerable and uncertain, she had a backbone. I enjoyed the MMCs because of how sweet and still flawed they were. With this being a fairly short novella, there wasn’t much time for a lot of character exploration between four MMCs. Their personalities were kind of distinguishable, but not by much.

The pacing was good for a novella. I enjoyed how it went right into the guys recognizing her, with none of that oblivious back and forth build up. And it was delightfully low angst. No third-act breakup.

And the spice was spicing! This was high-heat, without it being too much. We get threesome and group scenes, no crossed swords, and a nice variety of action.

Overall, this was a fun palate cleanser—Hallmark Chistmas movie vibes with sexy alphas. The spice was really good!

My biggest problem was that the guys were all very one-note for me, and I routinely mixed up Carter and Mason. A lot of RH books, especially novellas, fall into the "he's the [trope] one" trap, and this book had three "nice" ones, plus Jayce-the-flirty-one. I wish we spent more time getting to know what made each different, but that would have needed a hundred or so more pages, to be honest. This book may have worked better with three alphas instead of four.

Also, petty: I'm a former figure skater, and the fact that Ember lands a clean quad toe at the end with NO FANFARE makes me so mad. There are under 20 women alive who've done that irl. That's more-than-Olympic level talent and skill. Ember being a WORLD-CLASS figure skater didn't get enough love for me, even though her conflict was focused on not giving up her dreams—maybe the problem was that the writing fell victim to telling rather than showing pretty often.

This is a standalone novella for the winter months. Tropes include omegaverse, why choose, sports (hockey and figure skating), nesting, scent matches, fated mates and snowed in. There is a fair amount of spice so please review the content warnings. I received a review copy and my thoughts are my own.

Rating: 4/5 Stars: 3/5 Flames

I normally don’t read sports romances but I’ve enjoyed everything else I’ve read by this author so I was quick to snag a copy. This novella is perfect for the holidays and winter months as it takes place around Christmas, all the characters are involved in winter sports, and winter weather plays a big role. The story felt complete - longish even for a novella (in a good way). I would have liked to have seen the MMCs individualized a bit more - it was hard to keep straight which MMC was which. If you want a complete, HEA, winter novella with sports, cocky alphas and a stubborn omega, I think you would like this story.

This is the first book I have read from Harper Lennox. I truly enjoyed reading it.

Why Choose Omegaverse
Professional Skater Hockey Players
Scent Matches Fated Mates
Nesting Obsessive Alphas

Ember doesn't want mates right now due to her concentrating on her competition in two weeks. The guys were originally there to practice for their big games coming up. They realized the first day that Ember was their scent match. She didn't realize it that day, and only realized it when the power went out and the suppressants were no longer in the air.

Will they be able to convince Ember to accept them as her mates? Will they encourage her skating career? Will Ember be able to accept the guys while haunted by her past? Will she get over the way she was treated by her ex? So many questions that can only be answered by reading the book. So let's finish reading to answer them!

Ember is visiting her hometown after just breaking up with her boyfriend. Good news: she was able to reserve the rink in town to get some training in before her next big competition. Bad news: The rink manager double booked the rink with 4 alpha hockey players. Trying to fit in one last practice before the town Christmas festivities start, Ember finds herself stranded at the rink with the four alphas - Adder, Mason, Jayce and Carter just as her heat kicks in.

This book is the perfect sweet holiday omegaverse novella. I love that Ember realizes her worth and isn't willing to settle for less than she deserves. The guys didn't exactly give the best first impression but they definitely stepped it up and proved to Ember that not all alphas are jerks who expect the stay-at-home omega mate.

I received an ARC copy for Book Sirens.

Omegaverse is so new to me, and this is the second book I have completed of this concept. I really can't say I understand omegaverse, but I did enjoy reading. This is an easy read that is pure smut and very little plot. There are some content errors that need to be addressed. The main issue is the consistency with the scent. In this book, we learn more backgrounds about the FMC, Ember than any of our MCs. I'm ok with the lack of information of the MCs because even the Ember acknowledges that it's crazy that she's falling for them so hard and quickly, and she just met these men. If smut scene are spicy, it's crazy how they were able to become so entwine and intimate in a small amount of time. Omegaverses, knoting, and marking are new to me, and I still don't understand them. So I guess I need a good introduction to omegaverse .

This was such a great little omegaverse!
These characters were such a blast to read.
The FMC is a head strong and feisty omega figure skater, she has goals and will stop at nothin to reach them. She's been let down in the past and has no time for Alphas.
The MMCs are a pack of hockey gods that work hard on and off the ice....but what they really want is to find their missing piece to the puzzle...their omega.
Cue an overbooked small town ice rink and one big storm...to have these characters coming to their senses....literally their scent matches.
There's an unexpected heat...lots of spice with knots!
These characters are so entertaining...their banter will have you cracking up.
And their chemistry is so hawt ...they will have you fanning yourself.
And some of the sweetest moments...that will have you swooning.

Thoughts:
This was super cute. The vibes were vibing and i had a good time reading this one. The boys were so stinking sweet and caring, and Ember was so cute yet prickly, which i adored. The pace was a tad bit slow at times, but that honestly could just be me (I read this while being sick.) Its a really short book so there isnt much room to explore characters, but that's to be expected. I felt like the characters had a good presence with what little pages they had! The low stakes/low drama was really nice, it gave the book this cozy vibe. I would def recommend and I will be checking some of this author's other books out!

Spice:
There was quite a bit packed in here. This is only my second OV read and it had some stuff i'd never read before. knotting in her mouth and alpha barks. I enjoyed it, but I will say that despite the scenes all being a little different, the way it was describe felt very similar and repetitive. However, that doesnt make it bad. The chemistry between the characters was chefs kiss. They were so patient with her and attentive, Ember got the best care during her heat. It was a good mix of both sweet and rough at times.

This is my first time reading a book by Harper Lennox. This book is related to the Claimverse series and I cannot wait to check that series out! I fell in love with this sweet and beautiful story. I have been reading a lot of dark and depraved books (that I love!) but it is nice to read something sweet as well from time to time.
This book has Alphas, Omegas, packs, heats, nesting, scent matches and fated mates, what’s not to love! I love the Omegaverse for one specific reason, scent matches and fated mates. Who doesn’t want to find the one person or pack who is only theirs?! This is everybody’s dream, to find their prince/s without having to kill all the frogs first!
Thank you, Harper Lennox for introducing me to a whole new world and I cannot wait to dive in!

This was my first attempt at an alpha/omega book and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I was immediately in love with the omega character as she was smart, strong, and independent. Then throw in some hot alphas with a protective streak and hot steamy scenes and boom I'm all in.

I loved that the characters had some depth, that there was some internal struggle, and that the alphas were kind and supportive while being 100% male. This book tick off all the boxes to keep me interested.

I enjoyed the storyline, the spice was perfection and I got my happily ever after. All in all the perfect read.

Who said you can't have heat on ice!? This book is practically steaming from the amount of heat that is generating between these ice lovers.

You'll love this book if you're looking for an easy-read, with a fiercely independent woman that manages to ensnare her own pack all by looking adorable and smelling sweet. It's a low-angst book, with all the feels and emotions, that will have you grinning, blushing, and laughing!

It was a super fun light read, but a bit repetitive at times. But overall enjoyed it and recommend!

Though all Omegaverse stories are inherently sexual, this one also had a lot of heart. Ember is dedicated to her figure skating career and has had bad experiences with past alphas. They expected her to give up her dreams and her athletic career to become a homemaker. The Reaper pack - Carter, Mason, Adder and Jayce - being professional hockey players, both understood and supported her need to compete and achieve. They were really sweet and patient, allowing her space to be sure of her feelings. A sweet, HOT read!

I had moderate expectations based on the blurb - a Hallmark movie style story in the Omegaverse, sweet, not too taxing. But the writing surprised me - it's pretty great. Lennox makes the main character sound like a reasonable, smart, driven, but fallible young woman who is so relatable. There's a great balance of dialogue, inner monologue, and description. I didn't feel like I was drowning in angst or plot mechanisms or excessive world building. Instead, I felt immersed in Ember's head, in the storyline, and in the setting of small town Americana in an OV world. I'll be scarfing up the rest of her books asap!

Really good fluffy read

The author has some consistency/continuity issues (for example Adder's scent goes from bourbon and pine to minty snow within pages and then randomly switches back late in the book). Despite these weird wrinkles, the story and characters are really good. There's really no melodrama or major antagonist so the entire read is pretty sweet and soothing. At around 170 pages the author gives us decent backgrounds and details without anything feeling forced or repetitive, so the length is pretty perfect as well.

Liked that it tackled the friction of omega expectations vs. a high-demanding dream/career. Ember (black cat FC) got depth because of that. What hurt the story for me is having 4 MCs. It was nice for the spice, but overall, it stumped my connection with the rest of the characters. And given it's short, I think it didn't give enough time to flesh out the alphas.

It's your potato chip read with cookie cutter characters, including the parents and sister. Easy read with repetitive descriptions that I kind of found annoying.

Is there such a thing as cozy smut? Low/no stakes, low/no angst, no/low plot… there’s repeated text, copy-paste style, throughout the book. There’s a suspicious lack of supporting staff for theses professional athletes; where are the coaches, trainers, PR teams, owner (for the hockey players), and nutritionist/equipment managers/managers in general! And the agents! The parents! The entourage? It’s borderline lazy but it’s also self-pub Omegaverse and only 177 pages long.

Until Next Time,

Ember is an ice skater who really does well in competitions. She rented her hometown's ice skating rink out so she could practice for her up coming competition after Christmas. She is skating when these 4 alphas come in and tell her they rented the skating rink out. They must share. The guys, Adder, Mason, Carter and Jayce are getting ready for the hockey game they are playing next week. During the ice time a blizzard starts and they are stuck together for a couple of days. You can only guess what happens with one omega and four alphas altogether snowed in.
