Aspiring plus-sized actress Ella has been having a rotten week. She's a month behind in her rent, and her agent is convinced that there are no roles out there for bigger girls. To make some money, she picks up a catering shift at designer apparel Dash De Maio's Easter weekend extravaganza.
Dash is everything Ella has ever wanted in a man — he's gorgeous and powerful, a billionaire who actually seems nice. But then there's the not-so-small matter of his recent, disparaging public comments about apparel for plus-sized women.
And then there's Ella's on-and-off fling with reputed mobster Carlo Catelli, and her quest to win the lap dance contest in her stripper dance class. What's a girl to do? Is it possible that one Easter weekend can change everything?
Standalone story. Approximately 23,000 words. Contains mature content, sex between consenting adults.
On the one hand, it's refreshing to have a heroine that's mostly body positive. While Ella did struggle with some insecurities regarding her weight, she overall made no apologies for her full figure, and even attended one of those stripper exercise classes with her fellow BBW, Daniela. Also, Dash and Ella definitely had some chemistry going on, though I would've preferred more scenes with them together, even if they're just flirting and getting to know each other. As for the romantic scenes, they were nice and spicy...at least, up until Dash insisted on pulling out every. single. damn. time. Like, just use a condom at that point, dude, sheesh.
Which brings me to the bad news: The story started off so slowly. I mean, I'm glad Ella was fleshed out before she met Mr. Right, but the author took just a bit too much time for my liking setting up the stakes and getting Ella and Dash to meet. Also, what was with that mafia guy Carlo?? I'll give the author points for originality, but Carlo and his casual on/off fling with Ella added nothing to the story. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy he didn't come between Dash and Ella, but there was just no point to him. Especially since Ella was worried about Dash seeing some super-skinny supermodel at the same time she was seeing both Dash and Carlo. Hypocrite, much?
4⭐ 3🌶️ I have to say, I'm really shocked about the definition of plus-size. Ella's friend is a size 8, what's a European 38. And that's in Germany definitely NO plus-size. Plus-size in Germany starts at 44, that's 14 in US. And that's only where they start, not the general definition. Luckily they mention that 14 is the average of an American woman.
I enjoyed reading this book. I liked Ella's character. She was so spunky, flirty, and independent. I also liked Dash's character, once we actually "meet" him in person. The only downside was that it was kind of a slow start in the beginning, but it quickly picked up pace after the first chapter.
