Really great volume!

It sounds weird to say, but I enjoyed seeing Utage struggle with the idea of being friends with Tamon (even though I don't think she is misunderstanding anything in terms of how Tamon is acting) because it really shows how much she values Tamon as her fave. I was thankful, though, that she had people encouraging her TO befriend him because, as she's told, Tamon is a human too and has feelings just like she does.

This leads me to say that everything that comes from this new "friendship" was SO good! Oh my goodness! From Tamon going all out in one moment to them hanging out (and even one thing I don't want to say but had me squealing!), it was really fun, and I'm excited for Tamon to hopefully show her that what he feels for Utage is far more than the excitement of simply making a friend!

The last chapter was so fun and cute, but that last page!! AHHHHHHHH!!! I need to know what is going to happen because that was such a turn of events!! I'm almost scared to know, but at the same time NEED to know!

Genuinely, I wish the story was a little less b-side than it actually is. It’s definitely right up Yuki Shiwasu-san’s alley as far as manga goes, right down to pacing that I would consider a tad slow. I’d compare it to molasses, but this at least has things happening, although the latter is sweeter.

After all the ways that the older brother subplot could have gone, I have to admit my shock when it turns out that the answer is ‘absolutely nowhere’. I mean, it looked like we were setting up for something and that winds up being Utage and Tamon becoming friends.

It takes effort to pick the least interesting path forward, but I will give it some slack because it actually nudges the relationship side towards full-blown romance finally. Or at least skating around it more intensely.

I will give that the cute levels are mostly strong throughout, this is also something the mangaka is good at, but I don’t think the gags are funny enough in general, nor is the romance especially well realized. Given the reviews surrounding mine, I think I am the outlier; this just isn’t my jam.

It does finally get into the difficulty of Utage daring to maybe have the feels for Tamon and how that bumps up against her duty and obsession as an idol fan, at least. That said, I don’t think it does it with enough depth.

There are also only so many times I can see that head explosion gag before it loses its lustre, although this has one of the best/grossest barf jokes I’ve read in a while, for what that’s worth. And a pretty solid incest gag too.

Plus, that theme park date certainly has its moments, so it’s not awful, but I hardly ever come out of this series feeling like I would wholeheartedly recommend it. It lacks the something special and level of consistency that would make it a strong recommend.

Since I read Otaku Vampire’s Love Bite this same week, I will throw them both into the ring (both being comedic romances) and say that the vampire book trounces this one. It is just better written and I think that’s the thing - this is okay at what it’s doing, but it’s at a more basic level than I would prefer.

3 stars - mixed bag much? It scrapes by with some admittedly decent moments, but it doesn’t really sell either side of itself especially well. Inoffensive with a couple okay jokes and that’s about it.

Can we just take a moment and appreciate this cover!?!?!? Oh my gosh.

Utage you are PISSING ME OFF. Tamon, you're a precious bean who needs to be protected at all costs.

Recap: Utage attends their dance practice because Tamon says she helps him calm down, Utage goes to a F/ACE cafe event with her friends and Daiki shows up, shedding light on her connections. Tamon asks her to be his friend, she finally accepts and then they go to a theme park together before the end is a ferris wheel moment and a "what are we" cliffhanger!

4.5 stars. I love the humor and ridiculousness in this volume mixed with more poignant character and relationship development. The way the artist can use the medium of manga for humor is on another level. Great volume.

This one was so amazing!!!! I'm so glad that the series is progressing like this. I was a bit concerned that Utage would never allow a relationship to form between herself and Tamon, but I'm so happy that the dynamic is slowly shifting. With other perspectives giving her a chance to see the relationship in a different light, she is now able to progress to being able to call Tamon her friend! I also appreciate how Tamon's brother can see the strained relationship Tamon has between his peers. He truly doesn't have a friend and I'm glad his brother could identify that. I really hope that Tamon will be able to see himself more positively and his band mates can give him more grace considering his low self-esteem.

I do kind of wish that each volume was a little longer because sometimes I feel like there's just so much happening. But I do really enjoy the characters and watching them grow as the story progresses. I am a little frustrated with Kinoshita and her stubbornness about only seeing Tamon as an idol and not a real person. I am SO curious to see what's going to happen now that... well, no spoilers, but I'm curious to see what's going to happen next. I don't want to get my hopes up too high because I have a feeling something will come crashing down the middle of what's currently going on lol.

I love all of these characters so much. They are all just so dynamic and memorable. I love seeing how they grow and change and approach new problems as they grow closer. For as short as a manga volume is I really feel like we did a lot in this volume and I was so sad when I had finished it because now I'm back waiting for more. I may also have had an extra good time because I've been seeing clips of the anime version on my feed lately and that just made me happy.

This is a volume that you can definitely categorize as payoff lol. You watch the main characters struggling for many volumes and then finally he gets a sliver of confidence and happiness. This newfound motivation seems to center around our best girl and the budding friendship they have. I particularly enjoy the texts they share. The cliffhanger ending though is brutal, thinking that I'm going to have to wait and unknown amount of months to get the next installment just hurts! Lol

I loved this volume so much! Finally we’re seeing some progress between Tamon and Utage, I know that it has been a bit slow but they’re honestly so cute. Utage needed to pass her denial stage until she realized that she actually likes Tamon. Also, Tamon is starting to become less depressed, bit by bit until he understands that people actually like to be near him. I want to know what Tamon says to Utage!

I think im in the minority, I don't really care about the romance between Tamon and the girl. It is just unrealistic, she fan girling over everything he does. It is exhausting. Tamon is god is just cringe. Seriously. I actually more interested in the relationships with the band mates. But clearly this shojo manga so 🤷

We got back to our main couple and I’m glad, I’ve been wanting some cute things/movement to happen with them. I love when Tamon is so pathetic begging her to please look his way cause how can he exist otherwise. I love the little mushroom to represent him and I’m ready for them both to accept their feelings!

OMG! This volume was EVERYTHING! I was laughing so hard while reading this one. Shiwasu's art in the comedic panels are perfect. And that ending??! I read this at work and I had to silently scream into my volume to keep myself from exploding like Utage's head when encountering Hottiehara.

Un tome correct, avec quelques tentatives d’évolution, mais trop timides. Tamon reste très dur avec lui-même, Utage aussi, et après autant de tomes, ça devient frustrant. J’attends un vrai tournant.
