Bliss Peak #2

Seeing Red

Rate this book
I was only in Bliss Peak to do two

See about my grandmother.WriteI wasn’t supposed to get to this town and show my behind. Literally.

But I could explain. There was a bat. In my shower. And the threat of rabies was enough to have me sprinting out of my cabin to my only neighbor’s house, with just my towel and suds covering my body.

My neighbor watched me run circles around his house before I could tell him what was wrong.

He was even nice enough to let me wait in his house with a change of his clothes while he took care of my bat problem.

Thankfully, it wasn’t even a bat.

But I still had a problem.

I’d come to these woods to write and now I was distracted. Because my neighbor had a roommate, and they invited me to dinner every night. Took care of me when I didn’t know I needed it.

And loved me through my grief.

I wasn’t supposed to fall in love with them. But I was learning that not everything went according to plan

Can someone please tell me how to get to Bliss Peak, apparently there is something in the water and I want a sip. Shon has really done her thing with this trope and this was another very tastefully and well written MMF why-choose novel.

True St. James is grieving the loss of her twin. She feels like her family is smothering/hovering over her. She flees to Bliss Peak for a reprieve and to write through her grief. Meeting her new neighbors becomes a life changing event for all parties involved. True is no stranger to unconventional relationships but can she endure her own? I really loved the dynamic and chemistry between the three.

Shon with another "why-choose" novel. After mourning the loss of her sister a year ago, True is in Bliss Peak to rediscover herself and her passion. To concentrate on her art, she needs solitude and tranquility. But how can she do it when Noah and Greyson, live next door?

Despite their problems, Noah, Grey, and True found happiness and solitude in their trio. Seeing Red depicts the family conflict and the three characters' sexual discovery. I will admit that I thought the conclusion was rushed, and I wanted more details about True and how she dealt with the death of her twin. It seemed to be a bit surface-level; you had to read between the lines.

I usually prefer one partner over the other when it comes to MMF, but Shon did her BIG one.

Blissfully in love

Damn, Shon knows how to write these why choose books!!

Listen I'm packing my bags and headed to Bliss Peak baby, because something clearly is in the water and I'm drinking some 🤭

True was grieving, losing her other half was just too much to bare. Over a year later she is trying to find herself and she finds so much more. Greyson was smitten with True at first sight. He was the buttoned up finer than wine professional. While Noah was a jack of all trades, good with his hands building and fixing pretty much anything. I love the care and detail that was put in their relationship. Shon paced it perfectly, allowing them to build a friendship, a bond that was so beautiful and strong that when they finally became "more" it was consuming. I loved how each man gave her something different, but both insisted on taking care of her. She was submissive for Grey and dominant for Noah. Sis was out here living her best life and I loved that for her. I loved how protective they were with each other and how understanding Grey and True's families were. Excellent read.

SN: I need a Greyson and a Noah ASAP!  Both of them added to the bookbae list expeditiously.

3.5 rounded up again!

cute but needs an editor! there’s a lot of spelling/grammar mistakes or places there should’ve been punctuation but wasn’t.
the covers for this series remain beautiful 🙏

Another Hug with Words

Reading about things I can relate to within my culture while also having a well-developed storyline is so soothing. The musical references, hairstyles, and the text exchanges, especially with True’s mom, were elite. The plot did drag a tiny bit towards the middle of the book for me, but it was easy to move past and get back into the story. I love how Shon gives us characters with such distinct personalities; it’s like you can just picture these people clearly along with the things they would say. The spice was amazing, but I do wish we could’ve seen the secondary romance evolve a bit more, maybe in the epilogue. I wish we also could’ve gotten more interaction between Greyson’s parents. Overall, I am so happy with this book; it was a perfect holiday read.

Returning to Bliss Peak to meet True, Noah, and Greyson. True seeks refuge in Bliss Peak to write and finish her newest novel; little does she know her next-door neighbors are going to be just what she needs to complete the book and her.

Shon gives us not only another why choose in the same quaint town of Bliss Peak as Just Right, but also a story centering on grief. True has lost her other half, and Noah, to a certain extent, has lost his family. How they deal with each of these losses is shown on page. That was really a highlight for me in this one because I wasn’t expecting it at all. It made the characters more complex as a result.

On to the romance, they were all head over heels in love with each other and made sure to tell each other every chance they got. The yearning the three of them had for one another was there from the very beginning. They treated True like the queen she was and had her tapping into things she had never done (specifically Grey). I do wish we got more throuple scenes, though, that involved Greyson and Noah partaking in one another, if you catch my drift.

One of the things I wish was done more in this one was not only a penetrating sex scene between Grey and Noah but also more elements to this retelling. The book was long enough to give me more of the essence of Little Red Riding Hood; somewhere along the way, I feel that got lost. In comparison to the previous novel in the Bliss Peak series, where you could see the elements all throughout.

Overall, I would recommend this one. It kept my attention, and all the characters were likable except Noah’s horrid parents. I also loved how True found her sister's letter, my heart 🥹.

Gotdamn this was just so wholesome and sexy and heartfelt and nasty.

Each character is so well developed and we're able to see their evolution through the story. It's often so easy to pick a fav partner but with Shon, she makes it hard to pick a fav when each character is relatable in some way.

Shon is killing it with these why choose romances.

3.6⭐️’s

I wish there had been more moments with Greyson and Noah after they got together that weren’t solely focused on sex. Their relationship felt a bit lackluster when they finally became a couple, as it lacked deeper, non-physical connection on the page. Additionally, I wish True had shared the story about her sister with Greyson. That was a significant plot point for her character, and only discussing it with Noah felt a little off. That said, the book had strong emotional moments and delivered really well when it came to the spice. Overall, it was an enjoyable read.

Great Book

I THOROUGHLY enjoyed this book. I don’t know which I enjoyed more, Seeing Red or Just Right; either way, I loved everything about this. We got a taste of Rome’s bi-awakening at the tail end of Book 1, but with Greyson, it was covered so much more in depth and I really appreciated that. Greyson and Noah’s feelings for each other went from being purely platonic to purely romantic and it was such a joy to read.

Speaking of Greyson, *fans self* I love how dominate he is. He gave very much BDE. He was the rock that kept Noah and True grounded. The way that he poured into his two loves was, muah, chef’s kiss.

I also loved True. She was just so different from Goldyn. She was headstrong, confident, but somehow unsure of herself at the same time. I especially loved how she turned the heat up with Noah. She was the more dominate of the two personalities, so it was refreshing to see the FMC take the lead. Also, as someone who has lost their sister, her writing to her twin brought tears to my eyes. It was raw and honest but allowed True to get some much needed feelings out.

Finally, Noah was such a teddy bear. He was emotional and sensitive and just right for Grey and Red. Whereas Grey was a rock, Noah was more clay. He molded and took shape over the course of this book. He stopped allowing his parents to manipulate him and loved how he wanted to be loved.

Overall, this was a really adorable read.

Bliss

The intensity of emotions in the book was the star of the star. I loved how everyone felt so much and so hard. It was like a bunch of Pisces falling in love lol. Now me personally I would have liked a little more action on the MM side of things and there were a few aspects that felt not incomplete but not fully explored or fleshed out? I can’t put my finger on it but it left me just a bit unsatisfied. Otherwise this was a really sweet story. And the way everyone was basically a switch was a nice touch. Really good read overall.

Ooohweee. This one was a little deeper than book 1 with the topics of dealing with grief and cutting off toxic family members but I sure did enjoy True, Noah and Greyson together.
Acts of service & quality time being the biggest features here 😮‍💨😮‍💨

Things to know: Black Romance, MFM turned to MMF/polyamory, no 3rd act break up, ADHD rep, Dyslexia rep, mentions of loss due to suicide and grief, toxic parents

10/10 do recommend!

I swear I can't get enough of this series or this book. Shon has such a way with words. Got me falling for the characters and the world she built.

I could have read this in one sitting but I tried not too because I didn't want it to end. That's how good this book was!

I would read bonus scenes and epilogues of this book and series forever. I am obsessed!!!

Seeing Red by Shon was a beautifully written Why Choose romance novel. All the characters were lovable and relatable. To watch both Greyson and Noah fall for True had me kicking my feet. Noah and Greyson discovering their feels for each other had me all in my feels. Noah is such a cinnamon roll and Greyson had the silent provider role down pat. I absolutely loved this novel.

Loved this small town why choose. It was nice seeing the characters from the first book in here. It was long but worth it.

I felt for True loss is hard to deal with and she had to do it in her own time. Noah and Grey loved her down and vice versa.

Noah’s parents got on my nerves but I was glad when he stood up for himself.

Seeing Red

I really enjoyed this novel from beginning to end. These three were the perfect match for each other. I loved that they developed a friendship before ever taking things to a physical level. I enjoyed Greyson’s self discovery about his sexuality. I enjoyed the way they just loved on and supported each other. I also love the way the author writes these taboo relationships and I think the intimate scenes are very tastefully done. If you love a poly romance and don’t mind swords crossing, I think you will enjoy this read.

the last spicy scene with Greyson, Noah & True, is that actually possible?… let me do my Googles 🧐 nasty with deep themes which left me wanting less backstory & more human centipede-ing. the spice made me squeamish at times? & my mind pictured Greyson as Steve Urkel. suspenders everyday?? I guess

good read

Well written. I love that this wasn’t the only unconventional couple we got see in the book. It took me far too long to figure out what fairytale this was. The guys were just so thoughtful and providing. “It’s always been whatever you want. You just had to ask.” Amen ! The grief aspect was so real. I love that True willingly spent Grey’s money. It was great to see the guys relationship blossom from a friendship to more.

I think all dreams, thoughts and flashbacks should be italicized. The book was a tad bit long but I also think the ending was kind of rushed. I would’ve liked to see the author lean more into the MM aspect. It was kind of light.

Red, Grey and Noah

I’ve had this book on my TBR for a while now and I don’t know what took me so long to actually read it. This book gave you all the spice you’ll ever need but also gave a good plot. I love how Noah finally was able to stand up to his parents and actually know he’s good enough to accept love. I finished this book in on sitting because it kept me intrigued.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 🌶🌶🌶/5

TW - grief (throughout), terminal cancer diagnosis (FMC’s sister), suicide (FMC’s twin, past, mentioned, suicide note on page), sleep disorders (insomnia), sleep disturbances, sleep walking, sleep medication, strained family dynamics incl emotional abuse and going no contact, alcohol consumption, smoking (sc), hip injury (grandparent, fall, past, mentioned), familial death (great aunt, mentioned), panic attack (past, mentioned), night terrors, food poisoning (past, mentioned)

CW - DVP, primal play (chasing), CNC, toys, power dynamics + switching, hand necklace, angel wings

Tropes - *they were roommates*, possessive, why choose, autumn / winter setting, rich MMCs, writer FMC, found family, small town, found family, close proximity, friends to lovers + strangers to lovers

Representation - queer rep, bi rep, bi awakening, neurodivergent / ADHD rep, dyslexia rep, mid/plus size FMC, Black MCs, polyam rep incl MMF, anxiety

I was excited to be back in Bliss Peak having read Just Right and it was so nice to be back. These books are low stakes and cozy and honestly, just a vibe.

Noah (MMC) and Greyson (MMC) live together and have for a while. True (FMC) has come to town so she can get back into writing and the MMCs are enamoured by her and, luckily for them, she’s their new neighbour. They hit it off quickly, both as a group and in pairs and it was nice to see them all start falling for each other.

They had a lot of tender moments together and, of course, some hot ones 🔥 and I enjoyed it. The book is set in autumn / winter time so felt quite timely to read it now.

Scale:
⭐️ - would've DNF'ed / continued out of spite
⭐️⭐️ - shit, but whatever
⭐️⭐️⭐️ - meh, could've been better
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - lit 👅
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - loved it, inject this shit into my veins 🤪

🫑 - no smut
🌶 - no point
🌶🌶 - mediocre at best
🌶🌶🌶 - standard smut, hot
🌶🌶🌶🌶 - 🥵 okay, some CW
🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶 - fuck me 🥵🥵 CWs / filthy with a side of filth - see Poison / Room Twenty-Two: Hide and Seek/ The Naughty List / The Naughtier List

Ehh disappointing. No where near as good as Goldyn’s story in Just Right (Bliss Peak Book 1). I wanted to like this, but DNF at 89%. I loved the first book, but this one was 90% spice and Greyson was all this book gave me!! He is the only reason I kept reading cause that man was everything 🥵 quiet, mysterious, commanding and possessive! After he messed up he bought her a bunch of books and like 4 coffees to make sure it was right, I swoon 😍 now that’s an apology!

It was similar to the first book, where the FMC Goldyn from book 1 is asked to be in a poly relationship with a gay married couple for the summer. Their relationship being framed as temporary created the tension for most the of the book and caused a lot of conflict between characters -who deep down didn’t want a temporary bond. In this one, Shon seems to follow a similar format. Instead, the relationship is temporary because the FMC is only in Bliss Peaks to write a book in a cabin and then dip.

Except the plot is all over the place, there’s a random resort and a cat named Duchess that was another plot device to bring the character together. And True was a boring FMC.

What really got to me is despite True being a romance author and in Bliss Peak to write a book, after the loss of her sister, we literally learn nothing about her books or writing until the last act of the book! We only know that she likes to be shared by men, chased to the point she’s terrified, her parents are poly and that she adores her grandparents 😂

We also don’t learn much about her twin sister at all, aside from the fact that she unalived herself even though that’s supposed to be like central to True’s origin story. We see True have night terrors but that’s like it. We learn nothing of her past relationships either. Any of the characters really… well I think Noah had a bad breakup mentioned at the beginning but that’s it.

Then Noah’s parents’ drama was very predictable and drawn out.. forced homophobia for the sake of the plot 😒 his parents took up way too much of this book especially considering they don’t even live in Bliss Peaks!
