The hulking teddy bear I met at a Christmas party last month is a bodyguard – a scorching hot single one – but I know better than to think he’d be interested in a curvy single mom like me.
It doesn’t matter that I can’t stop thinking about him. My only priority now is getting my life back on track after my ex. Even though said ex is determined to make things miserable for me…and when he crosses a line, suddenly *I* need a bodyguard.
Luckily, I know a guy. And he’s more than willing to whisk me away to safety. The only problem is, the longer we spend in this remote Kentucky cabin, the harder it is to imagine what life looks like after this.
I’m positive I can keep my head on straight…until Troy shows me all the ways he’s interested in me. All the parts of me that I see as broken, he sees as beautiful.
Something between us has me throwing logic out the window.
He’s a free-floating bachelor, and about to leave the country for a new assignment.
I’m a 1st grade teacher with a three-year-old.
In what universe does this make sense?
While it seems there’s no way forward for us, my heart is ready to do whatever it takes to make this fantasy become a reality.
Even though my ex is dead-set on the opposite.
Broken Bodyguard is a high heat, bodyguard romance and the first book in the Nightingales of Wall Street series. If you like poor boys turned good billionaires fighting to make their corner of the world a better place while falling for stubborn and sassy heroines, then you’ll love this series. Each book has a HEA and can be read as a standalone though there is cumulative drama throughout the series.
This was fine. Hunky bodyguard falls for a cute single mom with an abusive ex, you know the story. I was very disappointed in the lackluster comeuppance for the ex. I mean, a guy slashes my tires, comes for me with a bat and a couple friends, shows up uninvited to my home, texts unhinged threats and insinuates that he will take “his” daughter from me one way or the other, I’m going to look into Kentucky’s very lax concealed carry laws and not give him a chance to hurt us again. Ever. Absolutely get a restraining order and call the police, but when you can’t count on Justice I suppose we will have to make do with Vengeance, am I right ladies? Maybe it’s the peri-menopause but I have so much rage at the audacity and entitlement of weak men. I find I am less interested in grey sweatpants and abs than I am in seeing their stupid heads bashed in. Do with that what you will, FBI agent monitoring my Goodreads posts.
PS. liking weird cheese isn’t character development.
I’m not sure why the title of this book is called Broken Bodyguard. Yes, he didn’t have the best childhood. His dad suffers from a mental illness of paranoia which led him and his family to live as vagabonds. Maddie is the one who was broken. He protected her and helped her to see that she is worthy of being loved and cherished, to not tear herself down like her ex did to her.
The book should be titled Protective Bodyguard or Sweet Bodyguard or Knight and Shining Armor Bodyguard.
I did like the story but I also felt it was very generic and predictable. No parts in there make you laugh out loud or cringe from awkwardness, or cry from their heartbreak or just fill you with happiness over something very sweet. You can literally predict each coming chapter. I, personally, don’t think it was worth the $5+ to read but if you’re looking for something to read that’s simple, a HEA ending, a quick read, and don’t mind the price tag, this would be a good choice.
I devoured this book in one sitting. If you've read the bad boys of Wallstreet books, you'll absolutely adore Troy and Maddie. And if you haven't, uhm.. you're missing out. This book follows Troy (Trojan) and Maddie and Little Miss Grace (Maddie's 3 year old). Maddie is going through a sticky divorce, and Troy steps in as a bodyguard. The chemistry between these two is absolutely amazing. The bond between Troy and Grace is absolutely adorable. This book is truly everything I wanted and more. I can't wait to see where Ember takes this series!
Ohhhhh Troy… man oh man! I just knew he would be delicious after encountering him in Seven’s book but lord! This man is just unreal! Not only is he described as literal eye candy but he is a fierce protector, funny as heck, sooo good with kids and has a filthy mouth to boot?! Sign. Me. Up! Talk about book boyfriend material! Love this man! I also loved Maddie’s sassy little self too! Watch the trigger warnings for this one with regards to her ex, as that may be difficult for some readers, a sensitive topic that I felt was handled well by Ember! 😊 Fantastic read!!
You will be blown away when you read this book. I got all the feels reading it. Troy and Maddy are thrown into a situation where he is the bodyguard to her and her daughter. The chemistry between them is evident right from the start. And her daughter sure does take the cake with cuteness. Troy has to leave and brings his girls home. Can he just leave them? Ember Leigh does it again.
Great quick read! This is a perfect example of how you can't plan for love. You may not think you're ready for it, but when it happens, you'll do anything you can to make it work. Ember has a wonderful writing style that allows you to flow chapter to chapter, getting totally absorbed in the characters, visualizing each scene like you're there. I can't wait to read more from this series!
Ember Leigh has done it again. The first book of The Nightingales of Wall Street, tied into The Bad Boys of Wall Street perfectly, and sets the tone for another great series. Troy, and Maddie’s story is one of the sweetest love stories, and there was just enough spice sprinkled throughout that it enhances the overall story.
This was a very fun, witty, steamy, and entertaining story with a bodygaurd! Intrigue right from the start and each time you think you know the flow of the story you’re pleasantly surprised. Great bridge from the Fairchilds to the Nightingales. Definitely a stand a lone unless you want history on either family.
Ttojan thought he didn’t need roots. Troy, or Toy as Grace called him, found he needed to protect Maddie and Grace from Jericho her abusive ex and in the process finds maybe he can’t live without his girls. But how can this single mom and this world traveling bodyguard find a way to be together?
They met at a Christmas party and haven’t stopped thinking about each other. Maddie is married but she has filed for divorce from her ex, he is a total loser. Troy is a confirmed bachelor and doesn’t want to settle down. Thing change when Maddie needs a bodyguard.
Fall in love with Troy your new book boyfriend, he has it all, had a little girl, her mama, an ex from hell, you see the plot thickens, you won’t be able to put it down, it it is addictive.
This is a light, easy read. There's a lot of promise, but much is left to be desired depending on your reading goals. This is all quick, surface-level romance. Definitely chemistry between main characters, but very lacking in depth.
Broken Bodyguard was a quick read with that instant connection and playful banter that keeps you hooked. When Maddie and Grace needed protection, Troy was all too happy to help. Troy and Maddie keep this story light, playful, and romantic which will have you devouring it in one sitting.
Maddie & Troy's story was a wonderful read & you'll be drawn in from the start especially after we last saw them in Seven's story. There had been a connection that both of them were still feeling so Troy jumped at the chance to 'check-in' on Maddie when Mercedes asked him to. She was worried that her brother Jericho, Maddie's ex was causing her trouble so he found he had been trying to hurt her Troy made himself her very personal bodyguard taking them away. Whilst away they were away everything seemed natural between them as if they were a family which something he'd never wanted before. It was great to see not only the connection between Maddie & Troy get stronger but also the relationship that had developed with Grace you couldn't help but smile at the love they had. He ex was not going to leave her alone & things only got worse but Troy was determined to keep both her & Grace safe for as long as she wanted him. The little family they had become was so full of love & I just hoped her ex would get what he deserved so they could get their happy ever after. It was great how the wonderful characters from the Fairchild family stories all became one big family. Now I can't wait to read the next book in the Nightingale series.
