In the small town of Mystic Hollows, the firstborns of the most powerful witching families are doomed to bear a curse.

Ava’s curse is a cruel one. If she goes too long without seeing someone, they’ll forget her entirely. No matter how much she loves or how hard she tries to be remembered, she’ll eventually fade from their memories as if she never existed.

Bram is a brooding and powerful witch consumed by his own curse of darkness. It’s a battle that rages within his very soul. One that feeds on emotions and buries him in either rage or apathy. His curse is slowly eroding any humanity he has left.

When Ava is forced to work alongside Bram, everything begins to change. The two of them are thrust together to plan a masquerade ball for their coven. It’ll be a miracle if they can work through the bickering, pranks, and undeniable attraction without strangling each other.

The coven council, driven by hunger for power, has sinister plans in motion. Ava and Bram find themselves right in the middle of the coven’s schemes, all while trying to fight their attraction to each other. There’s no way either of them will walk away without getting hurt.

Hexes and Exes is a spellbinding paranormal romance filled with magic, curses, betrayal, and a love that may be the only thing strong enough to break a centuries-old curse.

4.5 rounded up.

These two had so much chemistry and the slow burn until the first kiss was killing me.
Bram was in denial like 95% of this book, which pissed me off, but I understood his reasons. He just needs a couple of sessions of therapy, that or an ass-whooping, but we forgive him for being so obsessed with Ava. He was so into her it was funny when he tried to lie to himself. I liked how he saw life differently with her by his side and how jealous he got.

Ava is a sweet girl with the worst parents and ex. He was such a pain in my ass, always popping up when less needed. I was so happy she stood up to him and didn't go back to her family too. She spoke up when needed but was so compassionate and understanding (couldn't be me). I didn't enjoy how her brother was acting about her relationship with Bram, but I can understand that given her track record, he was wary.

Also, the plot?? So interesting and intricate. I was here for the romance, but the plot did not disappoint. I also love that they are not teenagers, but older people with real jobs and lives.

Thank you so so much to Lizzy for the e-arc. Can't wait to read the rest of the couples!!

ARC REVIEW

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC for this book and I want to thank the author for entrusting me with her book.
I have already read the first book in the series and I loved the world of Mystic Hollows and everyone involved in it.
In this second installment we will read about Ava and Bram's story.

Ava is one of Josephine friends and she is cursed as well. She is destined to be forgotten if she isn't seen in a week by the people around her.

Bram is Roman’s brother and he also is cursed. He has this darkness inside of him which feeds on negative emotions.

They are complicated characters led by the curses that have always affected their lives and they had to grow up in difficult families led by power and not love.

With thier group of friends they are continuing to search for answers about the past and the origins of their curses. They will discover new truths but other questions will arise.

In the middle of all this we will see how the relationship between Ava and Bram develops and grows but not with some bumps on the road.

While it can be read as a standalone,I highly recommend to read the first one in the series first to have a clearer picture of the whole situation and dynamics of the Town and the Coven.

Thank once again to the author for the ARC.

This book was such a fun read! The banter between the two leads had me laughing and smiling from start to finish. The dual point of view made it easy to connect with both characters, adding depth to the story and making it even more engaging. I can’t wait for the next book in the series!

loved!!

Loved Ava and Bram! They had great chemistry from the start, the banter was great and the jokes they played on each other had me laughing so hard! I just loved this book so much. I’m invested in all the characters now and hope they all get their own story, I need to know more about Ambrose, and then there’s Odie too! Love all the investigative work the group of friends do to try to solve the mystery of their curses, it’s too bad their parents all are so horrible. You must read!

A witchy romance with spice and mystery.
I liked how Emma stayed positive despite her asshole parents and ex boyfriend. She was funny and the pranks between her and Bram were hilarious!
Like most I love a broody, grumpy mmc who is only soft for her. I get that for the story Bram had to be hot and cold because of his curse but I wanted to kick him sometimes for his timing.
Can’t wait to read the next story and see how the rest of the story for this coven unfolds.
Thanks for the opportunity to read this arc Lizzy.

I've been excited to read Ava & Bram's story since last book! Yet again trash toxic horrible families and poor Ava was treated so badly by everyone but her friends yikes. I really liked them together but wish we got time with them actually together rather than only at very end, that and the extreme back and forth hot & cold was why I took off a star because that was annoying. Am excited for next book too and glad I guessed correctly who's love story is next 😹

Book 2 of the Mystic Hollows series!
I like the lore, cursed first born children and lots of coven secrets.

Book one introduced fated bonds and united the light and dark covens but there are still secrets to be reveled. This time it’s Ava and Bram working together. Forced proximity, fated mates, banter, friends with benefits, and curses!!

I enjoy this world and I’m eager for more! Piper and Ambrose??? Maybe Stellen and Odie?

I received this as an ARC and I couldn’t resist downloading and starting reading this straight away.

I love Ava as a character - lots of sass and snark and Bram is all broody and bad-boy vibes, but not as tough as he makes out! Such a fun and easy read and I was quickly invested in the main characters again and definitely more so than last time. They’re a group of friends that I wish I could hang out with! A satisfying ending too 🥰

I can’t wait for Book #3! 💛

Listen, once again we have outrageously villainous parents, now we've added god-awful bosses. We also have a little reconning of the first book. I'm annoyed that instead of leaning into the witchy-ness, it's still basically included as an afterthought (oh yeah it's a full moon and we all have to go out at midnight even though it's freezing and subject ourselves to a ritual we don't understand). Also, why are the kids such dicks to the elders? I really wanted to like this more. The premise is great, but the book is just ok. I feel like there’s so much more that could be done to fill in the world.

I just read The Ex Hex, which made me realize that's the type of book I wanted this to be - magic use in everyday life, a witchy community, and pluckiness that overcomes adversity. Instead I just can't help picturing every single person in our MC's generation needing therapy for parental abuse.

What the book gets right:
Witty banter - oh I loved the banter. I have so many highlights of it.

What the book gets wrong:
Deeper characterizations, a plot you don't have to suspend logic for

Was so excited to be able to ARC read Hexes and Exes. This book follows Ava and Bram who both suffer from their own family curses. Ava had me laughing the entire book. Although she had to suffer from her parents and ex boyfriend being negative (aka A-holes) towards her, she still was a bundle of light when her friends needed her. Her and Brams chemistry was perfect and I loved all the pranks they pulled on each other (The Doll). Both had to face their own struggles during the book and the dreaded coven council. Can't wait for the others in the group to get their stories!

4.25 ⭐

Witty and fun, with relatable characters. It was so easy to find myself immersed in this world and it's people. So much so that I found myself wanting to jump into the pages and throw hands on behalf of the MCs, or to shake sense into them.

This was my first foray into this series, but the author made it easy to get the gist of previous events. I do recommend reading them in order for the full effect though.

Looking forward to reading the first book and the rest of the series as it's released.

Loved it!

OMG, what is wrong with these people's parents?
All the families are horrible and treat their kids like vessels for the curse... Which they are, but can you at least love them a bit?! Apparently no!
I think I liked the first book better. The chemistry of the MCs felt more natural and they were not just together for the sake of the story.
Bram was delicious and I enjoyed his moods a bit too much. Ava, on the other hand, was a bit forgettable, pun not intended.
It was a fun read and I love that the dark witches are once again the good guys!

The CONSTANT recapping of book 1 really brought this book down. Some little snippets tying back to the first book are great - but every. Single. Character from the first book had an introduction and almost full recap of what happened in the first book. I wish Ava and Bram fully got their own story….hopefully book 3 isn’t as bad…

Solid sequel to Curses and Cauldrons. As usual, Lizzy's engaging banter and clean writing are entertaining. I didn't connect with the FMC in this book like I have her others, but loved Bram in all his dark moodiness. Although I did want to smack him a few times!

Two curses. What seems to be wanting to keep them apart, something continues to draw them in. This book was so cute and well-written. I couldn't stop reading and finished the book in two days. It is a really good book with such an adorable plotline. I recommend reading it.

This booked added to the lore built in the previous one. It also explains somewhat why so many of the parents in this town are despicable, so hateful of their children whilst also being very meddling. Ava and Bram were a good combo.

good

I feel that this book has gotten better than the previous book. I don’t feel like everybody is in as much of an orgy state as they were in the first book. However, parts of this book seem to have a lot of high school drama, even though these characters are supposed to be in their late 20s. I do like the fact that even though Ava and Bram are the main characters in this book, the rest of their friends are talked about as well. I did feel that Ava acted like a doormat and let people walk all over her. I know that she didn’t want people to forget her because of her curse, but that didn’t mean she still needed to let people walk on her and treat her like crap. I think it’s kind of pathetic that the women in these books need to have a man tell them they’re worth instead of them figuring it out on their own. I will read the next book in the series.
