Deal with the Devil

Rate this book
Amelia is an author crashing on her sister's couch in King's Fall. One fateful day, on the way back from a well earned break, she notices goons following her and her sister. As a struggling thriller/mystery author, she knows how this ends. So, naturally, they book it... only to run into Knox, the black market Devil of King's Fall. Knox runs the casino that Penny's, her sister, shitty husband looses all his money at, and Knox is ready for them to pay up.

Amelia demands she be taken in her sister's place. Knox doesn't deal in people, especially with the blue haired vixen threatening him with a rusty knife. But he likes her spunk, and so he strikes a deal: Twenty-four hours, she belongs to him. If she's a good girl and keeps her word, Penny's slate is wiped clean.

It was meant to be one torrid night of passion and she'd never see him again. A deal's a deal. But there are more villains in King's Fall than she knows. An old enemy of Knox's is after his head, making the woman he secretly pines for a target... and so Amelia might have to make a few deals with the devil to survive.

Deal with the Devil is a Dark Monster Romance. A King's Fall Romance, meaning it's set in the same King's Fall universe, but is a stand alone book.

Can we say morally gray? Knox was the crime boss demon that was only 5’7” with an average peen. I liked that he wasn’t as physically imposing but still had that BDE. Amelia had quite the temper and would (and did) give anything to protect her sister and nephew. She was reckless to a fault, but that worked in her favor because who wouldn’t want the sexy demon crime boss to fall in love with them? The plot was intense and intricate, and no punches were pulled when it came to the truly ugly sides of criminal enterprises.

Spice: 5/5

Triggers: dubcon, Murder, Flesh/blood eating(Vampires biting out peoples throats all up in this lich), blood, gore, criminal activity, horror kink, primal, Traumatic flash backs, Emesis (injesting rotten food by accident), chase scenes non-consensually, references and flashbacks to torture (both physical and magical), child endangerment, gaslighting (Not from the MMC), faustian bargains, exchange of autonomy. Eldritch/Lovecraftian horror, and physical fighting/assault (FMC is very punch first)

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again—monster romance is the best kind of romance. Deal with the Devil delivers exactly what I wanted: a dark, spicy, and surprisingly heartfelt story with compelling characters and an irresistible dynamic. This book blends a little bit of horror, a little bit of mafia romance, and a little bit of urban fantasy mystery, creating something that feels so incredibly unique while still hitting all the right beats for both monster and dark romance fans.

The chemistry between Amelia and Knox is electric. The spice comes fast and frequently—primal play aplenty—and emotional sparks flying all over the place. But what I loved most was how their personalities balanced each other out. Amelia is reckless and impulsive, always jumping before she thinks, while Knox is all about control, plans, and strategy. Their banter is top-tier, and despite their flaws (or maybe because of them), they make each other better. I’m always here for morally gray characters who actually grow together.

On top of the romance, the world-building is fantastic. You can see the little D&D influences woven in, and the way Strong structures her stories always keeps me guessing. The initial rush of spice settles into a solid, engaging plot, complete with family dynamics and a dangerous game of survival. The pacing works so well, making for an addictive read from start to finish.

Deal with the Devil is a monster romance done right—dark but not toxic, spicy but still rich in character development. It’s everything I love about the genre, and I already know I’ll be coming back for more. Love, love, love!

Thanks so much to the author for the complimentary copy. This review is voluntary and all opinions are my own.

The characters: Amelia is one of those main characters that you can't help but to love. She sacrifices herself for her sister, no matter what that may mean, spending 24 hours with Knox, to settle a debt. And, honestly, you would do the same too once you got to learn more about Knox. He was tantalizing and seductive in a way that made me feel unable to put the book down. So much so, that I read it in one sitting.

The plot: While the spice is a piece of the main plot, that's not all. I appreciate how this author can weave in the spice while making it not completely about that. Which, for some stories, is okay. But I liked the background of the characters that we got to know, as well as a little cameo from a previous story!

The romance: There is romance *with* spice. A lot of spice. But it is done tastefully and the development of Amelia and Knox's relationship following their initial attraction made me swoon for days.

Unlike most of his muscled employees, his strength didn't come from ripping iron at the gym. Just natural fiendish talent.

What can you expect from this book? Typical Lizzie shenanigans but with a darker side of King's Fall. I knew to expect the unexpected but she still caught me off guard. Just me sitting there enjoying the romance and the banter and BAM. And once the action really gets going it doesn't stop! Lizzie had me on the edge of the seat and always guessing right up to the end.

I'm not usually a fan of mob or crime boss romances but this one was a fun time. Knox is such a swoony mmc. Will chase me, has a library, buys book trophies, lives in a farmhouse? Put a ring on that fiend!

One part I wasn't a huge fan of was the two younger kid characters. They were described as being preteen age, but they made some very sexual comments to adults that sort of shocked me and was a bit uncomfortable for me.

I love how much this world is growing! I can't wait to see what else comes from this wild world.

Am I a fan of mob boss romances? Not in the slightest. I will, however, read literally anything written by Lizzie Strong. And I’m beyond glad that I did because Knox & Amelia are the bloodthirsty murder gremlins I didn’t know I needed in my life. Their love story summed drew me in and I couldn’t put it down.

I have previously read Jockstraps and Newspapers from Lizzie Strong, which is set in the same world as this novel. I found that book to be sweet with a good amount of spice and interesting world building. When I read the synopsis for Deal With The Devil I thought it sounded fun - I am not exaggerating when I say I was blown away by this story! It is dark, adventurous and challenging but also sweet and heartfelt at points. The combination of fun, spice, horror and sweetness is beautifully woven around our main characters Amelia and Knox.

Knox is my new favourite book boyfriend! He is the perfect shade of morally grey while being a super cinnamon roll for his girl. He’s smart, sassy, powerful and protective of his people, caused by past trauma that has shaped him into the layered character we find in this book. Amelia also has so much to give, she loves her family fiercely, but sometimes she doesn’t know what to do with that fierceness. She is such a relatable character, and she’s an author and bookworm to boot! Both characters are well written and draw you into the story. I was rooting for them from the beginning and the pace and build up of their relationship was perfect. The side characters are equally enthralling - Penny, Brayden, Gael, Hellen, Maevin and Denver all caught my attention - they could each have a side book of their own.

I’ve come to completely fall in love with King’s Fall because of this book. The mixture of types of creature within this world is engaging and I love that they all live and work together, basically in harmony. At least, it’s not their magical or species differences that cause conflict. I need to read more books in this world now.

The story itself is a good pace with enough twists to keep you engaged and guessing. Do check the triggers in this book as there is some stuff that might unsettle some, but they are noted. I love how dark this book is compared to Jockstraps and Newspapers, the contrast shows a well thought out world that Lizzie Strong is pulling exciting stories from.

This book just made me want more! It kept me reading with every page turn and I was sad when it was finished I want more Knox, I want to read Amelia’s books and I want to hear about the side characters. This story is magical, dark, spicy and beautiful, in a way that only darkness and morally grey pairings can be. It was a great read!

Amelia lives with her twin sister Penny on her couch trying to write a mystery horror novel that would become a hit.

One evening they are attacked by strangers with a leader that has plum colored skin and horns who states Penny’s husband Rick owes him money, and Rick offered his wife as payment.

Amelia instead begs him to take her instead and makes a deal literally with the devil to be with him for twenty four hours and he’ll leave her sister alone. Now Amelia has to somehow get through the next twenty four hours with someone who is a villain and someone she should NOT be attracted to.

This was a much darker read than the other ones I’ve read by Lizzie. This to me was a true horror with gruesome events and although to be expected, took me by surprise at times. It also has a mystery mixed into it which I always love a good murder mystery mixed into a fantasy.

The romance is fast and also sweet. Two people who don’t see themselves as worthy of someone else, who come together and are worthy of each other and who see the worth in the other. Not to mention very…hot 🥵

I didn’t enjoy the story as much in this one as the others and I think it’s because I’m not a fan of dark mafia romances 😅 please don’t hate me lol. It’s just not my vibe, but I still enjoyed this book with the hilarious banter between Knox and Amelia, along with all the other horrifying things that occurred. It was such an odd and interesting mix of genres that I can’t help but love it 😂

Definitely worth a read, especially if you enjoy monster romances or just horror.

Thank you to the author for the gifted e-ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Well damn yet again, Lizzie Strong knocks it out of the park by writing an amazing book that was so great that it helped me get out of a bout of depression. I had been struggling to pick up a book as of late due to mental health, but I thankfully found a way to pick up this delight by Strong. I am forever thankful for her talent on these pages as they always make me smile, laugh, tear up, and stress over the fate of the beloved characters. All of her books have been wonderful and leave me wanting and begging for the next one to be before me. I enjoyed this monstrous twist of a mafia romance and was blown away by how Strong made me fall for a devil who more than deserved his name. Knox is a delicious mafia dom who I could not get enough of and kept me guessing when it came to his next move. Amelia is a lethal author who I would like to be friends with as much as I would want to be a fan of her books. Their relationship formed fast and seemingly out of the blue, but I loved it and enjoyed the immediate flavorful spice that occurred between the two. Where can I get my own sexy dirty talking purple tiefling who is part warlock, part patient sex god with a primal kink? I can not get enough of this couple and the new monster-esque side characters who were introduced to us, and I can not wait to see more of them around King's Fall in the rest of Strong's books! And omg that ending? I NEED to know how that story/deal goes! Damn you, Lizzie Strong, for teasing me yet again and making me beg for the book to never come to an end!

Every time I read a book by Lizzie Strong, I feel like I’m stepping into a magical world, much like D&D—one of my favorite RPGs. It starts with an instant lust just hours after meeting. She makes a pact with a demon to save her sister and nephew, but the last thing she expects is for her legs to shake just from looking at him. The chemistry between the two main characters felt nearly perfect, as did the growth of their relationship throughout the book.

Amelia undergoes significant development; she’s a character I thoroughly enjoyed. Fearless, confident, and secure in herself, she was a joy to read. At first, her sister frustrated me a bit because she wouldn’t let Amelia make her own decisions about Knox. However, by the end, she finally accepts him for everything he does for their family.

This book is packed with action from start to finish—there’s never a dull moment. If it’s not action, it’s spice, and there’s plenty of it. Both elements complement each other beautifully, giving you the best of both worlds in perfect harmony.

I found it incredibly sweet that Knox got so excited about reading Amelia’s books, buying every single copy and enjoying them with such passion and love for her. Above all, he supported her career unconditionally. It’s a dark romance with touching details like this while keeping all the elements we love about the genre intact.

When I got the chance to arc read Deal With The Devil by Lizzie Strong I said hell fvĉķìng yeahhh! The way I fell for How To Marry a Lich had me begging for more of this world. While the vibes are completely different, Deal With The Devil delivered.
😈
Knox and Amelia are made for each other. No holds barred, morally grey to black, take no shit kinda people. When Amelia agrees to a 24-hour deal with Knox to save her sister, all bets are off. Knox can do whatever he wishes with her, and she just says yes please with a grin. Or she makes a run for it first to make Knox work for it. Don't worry though, they like it. Primal is definitely a big deal in this book, and it's done sooooo well.
👌🏼
It doesn't take long for the two to be completely enamored with each other. Unfortunately, someone from Knox's past wants to see him and his empire fall. As Amelia and Know navigate a new deal and all the perks that come with it, they have to fight an insidious evil from taking everything.
👀
If you like:

◇ Primal
◇ Collars
◇ Found Family
◇ "We don't make each other better. We like being bad."
◇ She can save herself.
◇ "Crawl to me."
then you really need to try Deal With The Devil for yourself! So many thanks to Lizzie for the ARC. I can't wait to see what comes next!

Deal with the Devil was quite an enjoyable read. This is a bit of a dark romance, so check your triggers. Amelia is a struggling author who makes a deal with Knox, the crime boss of King’s Fall. There’s an instant attraction, despite Amelia’s reluctance.

The two certainly have chemistry! I’m a big fan of primal play, so I loved the chasing scenes. I really enjoyed that we got a plus-sized FMC with a fairly average-sized demon MMC. Knox is so adorable, honestly. Protect that cutie at all costs.

I will say, Amelia’s reluctance got pretty old after a while, but I get it. Penny also really annoyed me, so maybe it’s just a sister thing with these two? I *personally* am not a huge fan of the trigger warnings for each chapter with triggers, *but* I can understand that some people may really appreciate that. I just read a f*ck ton of dark romance and have no triggers, myself. 😂 There were a few continuity errors and what seemed like a missed word here and there, both of which pulled me out of the story some, but they weren’t major ones, imo.

Overall, it was pretty good, and I’m quite likely going to read more from this author in the future.

Amelia is an author, working in a bookstore and sleeping on her sister's couch. But when her sister Penny's husband gets himself in trouble they are soon faced with the Devil of Kings Fall, Knox, who is looking to collect. Amelia bargains with him, for 24 hours she's his, and her sister goes unharmed. Luckily for Amelia it's not all bad, Knox is a super hot villain with a heart, and their chemistry is undeniable. After the 24 hours is up Amelia is released from her bargain and returns home. But neither can forget those 24 hours and look for excuses to meet again.

When evil forces work to destroy Knox and target Amelia they are (fortunately) thrown together again. But make no mistake, Amelia is not a damsel in need of saving, she's a kickass FMC who is not afraid to go to extremes to protect her family and her Devil.

The villains and creatures in this story are awesome, there are some unique elements that were so interesting to read and Knox's staff were great characters too, I'm so keen to read more. The chemistry and spice between Amelia and Knox was also great and there are some emotional scenes between them. Check the trigger warnings if you have any.

This is an exciting dark fantasy set in the King’s Fall universe. All of the books in the series can be read out of order, they're loosely connected, with contextual links that are gradually revealed. This one most directly references The Kattos Waitress and A Fowl Company.

The story begins with our crime author FMC, Amelia, and her sister being chased by mafia goons. Amelia offers herself to the fiend/demon mob boss MMC for 24 hours in exchange for her sister’s safety. The deal is hot and steamy, leaving both of them wanting more. From there, the plot shifts into a dark mystery, with magic and monsters closing in on the main character.

The beginning felt like a dark romance, but it gradually leaned into a classic gothic fantasy vibe. I was hooked from the start. While the book explores some dark themes, the author does an excellent job of providing trigger warnings, not just at the beginning, but before relevant chapters as well.

Another great addition to the series. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next!

I’m not usually a dark romance fan but I’ve loved all of Lizzie’s work that I’ve read so far so I decided to give it a try and trust the process.

As far as dark romances go I did actually enjoy this one more than others I’ve read - I think because it still had the “Lizzie” style that I love. However, it was pretty clunky in the first couple chapters - there was a forest that the trees move but then that forest wasn’t mentioned at all again? The writing was jumbled and kinda took some reading and re-reading to get through a few spots, especially those first couple chapters. But if you push through like I did then you’re in for a good time!! I do think I’d like to see where some of the side characters end up, like the tidbit at the end about a Hazel and the Lord Commander!

The spice was moderate but well written and didn’t feel like a written porno. That being said, it was truly WELL written.

The romance left a bit to be desired imo but again I’m not usually a dark romance reader, I like the cozy romances with all the sweet romance vibes.

Dark and spicy

This book was given to me by the author as an ARC. I forgot about this title until the day before release and managed just over half of the ARC copy and finished it out on KU. All of the thoughts I have about this title are entirely my own.

This story was decently darker than other things I have read from the author, but not super dark. It dark more on a horror aspect without giving away any major details. Knox is a morally grey character, but Amelia is too which is nice to see. If you are someone desperately desiring complex world building I would recommend looking elsewhere. I had a great time and really enjoyed all of the character interactions.

As far as spice goes this piece does offer quite a few open for scenes, with a good amount of primal scenes, and readers should pay attention to the provided content warnings message near the front. Ms. Strong also has graciously included some warning of content that might be particularly bothersome for some readers prior to many chapters.

I tend to get burnt out when I read too many smut heavy/light plot books and this was a perfect remedy to that. Deal With The Devil had such an amazing plot! There were tragic backstories that intermingled, a mystery with traitors and magic elements, vampires that can’t die and an evil undead mafia boss back for revenge. This was made all the sweeter with Knox and Amelia’s chemistry! It was such a great balance of spicy and sweetness, from comforting Knox through nightmares to then chasing Amelia through the woods and having his way with her.

Right off the bat, the smut was amazing, I loved the Dom/Sub dynamic, flavored with primal play, collars, and brat taming. I loved every spicy scene and I feel like they weren’t just placed randomly. They added to the plot and their relationship in such a great way, it deepened the connection and understanding between the MCs. This series is 100% becoming one of my favorites and I need to read all the ones I’ve missed ASAP!

This is third book of Lizzie Strong’s that I’ve read and I’m absolutely in love with King’s Fall and its citizens. The book is a sexy, dark blend of a mafia romance and eldritch horrors that is still somehow a sweet and spicy romance. You can see the author’s love of D&D shine through as we encounter monsters that are unique from the commonly seen in romance and it’s so refreshing.

Amelia and Knox’s relationship is a whirlwind of lust that is only supposed to last 24 hours as payment for her brother in laws debts. Only once the 24 hours are up neither can get the rest other out of their heads. Once they are reunited they have to battle not only the demons of their pasts but a horror set on destroying everything and everyone they love.

There is always a hea for these books and no third-act breakup’s, but the teasers for upcoming books leaves you wanting more. I can’t wait to see what happens next in King’s Fall.

If you do anything today, pick up Deal with the devil please!! I promise you, you will not regret it. this story from the very first page had me enthralled and hooked. Amelia is the FMC, she is tough as nails but will do anything for the ones she loves (even if it means making a deal with the devil). Knox is the MMC, He is a crime boss who takes no nonsense from anyone when it comes to his empire. I give this story 3.5 chili peppers which I do not mind because sometimes just enough is perfect. The banter among the characters is perfection and kept me giggling and kicking my feet. Lizzie Strong always comes through with her monster smutt stories and I am always eager to return to Kingsfall and see what kind of mischief she will come up with next. Lizzie I thank you for creating this world!! you are an absolute MENACE!!

*This is an ARC Review!*

I absolutely adored this book.
The spice. The tension. The banter.
But also the emotions this book wrangled from me.

I openly sobbed.
The way this book had me up down and all around.

This book followed Amelia and Knox and their crazy journey.
And let me just say. 🥵🥵🥵🥵
Can I has one pretty please??

I'm not even a brat
BUT FOR KNOX, I WOULD BE 🤣🤭

Because the way he allowed Amelia to embrace the darkness and the anger and gave her the space to grow through it and into it.
It is unmatched. He was her grounding anchor. Her home.
And using the Primal/BDSM aspects to really drive that point in just made me emotional.

Like I said. I sobbed.

BUT THEN THE ENDING?!?!?!
I NEED THE NEXT BOOK IMMEDIATELY PLEASE AND THANK YOU.

Lizzie is the best for taking genres I wouldn't typically think to read, putting a monstrous spin on it, and just making me question everything.
Am I a mafia girlie now? Because I am in loveee with Knox.
Like sign me up for a 24-hour deal with a bookish demon daddy dom, who lives in a farmhouse and is absolutely obsessed with me. You will not find me complaining.
And Amelia... Amelia is just *chefs kiss* of an FMC. A s*x positive, take no sh*t, plus size baddie who knows what she wants and isn't afraid to save herself.
I am obsessed with her.
I absolutely loved seeing more of the darker side to King's Fall with this one and can not waittttt for future stories because my head is absolutely reeling with questions!

Expect:
💜 Collars & leashes
📚 "My pet" 🫠
💜 Familiar faces
📚 Magical gasm denial
💜 Tail play

This was WILD!

If you think you've know fierce FMC´s before you haven't met Amelia, she's a force to be wrecked with. Like I wish to have some of her qualities, but especially her strength.
Now now Sir Knox, just kept surprising me more and more every time and I was here for everything. Knox and Amelia since their first meeting they had a connection, and it just grew more and more in all aspects.
So the spice was spicing 🔥like a lot, I LOVE IT. Also love the cameos, I felt like the Leonardo DiCaprio's pointing meme every time someone I knew appeared.

This book has so many interesting thing but if you enjoy a good chase👟you'll love this book more.

I read this book within a weekend, that's always a good sign for me!

Lots of links into the King's Falls universe, so if you've read any of Lizzie's other books you'll see little glimpses of locations and names that have been the focus of other stories/characters.

There's a full list of CWs and they are speckled through the chapters before you embark - so you can't say you weren't warned!

I love that Lizzie writes bookish characters in this world, I think the below sums up (for the majority of us) why we devour books:
"Knox was an avid reader. He devoured books in his down time. Easier to keep the mind clear of doubt and judgment when the brain is busy reading someone else’s f**k ups."

We support women's wrongs in this house! Amelia is a spitfire of a lady to match Knox's smug crime leader. I'm normally someone who dislikes crime and Mafia romance... But I do love me magic and King's Fall always provides!

Despite our morally grey and a little violent main characters, or perhaps because of them, this book is a delight! The spicy is spicy and the blood and gore is interesting and page turning.

I personally love the gory horror parts of this book! But if you are someone a little squeamish about body horror (transformation of bodies) or dismemberment/violent death I'd recommend you pass!

2025 has been a slow reading year so far by my standards, but I am absolutely eating this ARC up!

Knox is the type of Mafia MMC I love 🥰 Protective, respectful, and a freak in the sheets (respectfully). He has some great extra ... features too (*ahem*, tail and horns). He is also my favourite colour!!

Amelia is like other Lizzie FMCs (/positive), so strong and brave... but as many Lizzie FMCs... she is also a thirsty gremlin (me frfr). I hope she gets everything she deserves and more questions are answered for her and me😂.

Theres so much I love in this book.

You got a forever fan in me, Lizzie Strong. 💜 Thank you for providing me with the ARC!

I’m so blessed to be able to Arc read this book. It sucked me in from the start and I couldn’t put it down. This book has a bit of everything, from mystery, suspense and intrigue to romance and murder, and of course, plenty of smut.

I love Knox and Amelia’s chemistry and I adore how they bring out both the best and worst in each other.
This one felt a little different from other books Lizzie strong has written but I enjoyed it so much. I think I will definitely be re-reading this one as it took a death grip on my soul. It’s safe to say that I too would make a deal with this devil.
