Wendy Klopfenstein enjoys sunshine, sweet tea, and a good book, preferably all at the same time. Having always loved creating stories as much as reading them, she now puts the ones wandering around in her head on paper for others to enjoy. When she’s not sitting on the porch reading, you can find her working on her next novel.
This was a cute, quick read for me. It was an interesting twist on the marriage of convenience trope. I felt like the romance could’ve been better developed, and I wanted the story to be a bit longer. If you’re looking for a clean historical romance that doesn’t take too long to read, you might enjoy this book!
NOTE: this book is currently free on Amazon as an ebook
This is the first book I’ve read by this author. As novellas generally tend to seem thrown together, I was skeptical. Imagine my happy surprise to find that wasn’t the case here! It’s well written, has some interesting characters, moves along steadily, and remains clean and sweet throughout the story. I loved how the heroine came up with believable ideas and wasn’t perfect. If you enjoy a determined heroine, a hero with integrity, and sweet historical romance, then I recommend this one.
Hope O’Neal travels west to take her friend’s place as a mail-order bride for Patrick Eastland. Emigrating to the United States from Ireland had led to drudgery. She prays that marrying a stranger will finally be the answer to her dreams of a happy life.
Patrick Eastland’s friend had advertised for a nanny for Patrick’s two nephews, but Hope isn’t to blame for his friend’s mistake. He marries her with the promise to annul the marriage after harvesting all the fruit from his apple orchard. That has to be his focus, or he will lose the house and land he inherited from his grandfather.
This short, satisfying story can be read in about two hours. There are hurdles on the path to paying off the hero’s mortgage. The heroine’s attitude won me over early in the story and had me pulling for her and the hero.
I look forward to reading another book by this author.
I must say I thoroughly enjoyed A Surprise Harvest Bride. It was a little bit of a twist to mail order bride books. It was very interesting with some ups and downs and a happily ever after. I would call it a “happy” book. One without a whole lot of turmoil and time you can spend waiting for the turmoil to end if you know what I mean. It was very enjoyable and I would highly recommend it.
Patrick is an apple farmer in cattle country. He has taken in his two rowdy nephews after their mother left (or died--unclear). However his friend & fellow laborer sees that he needs help with the trouble making boys and send for a mail order bride. He agrees to marry her, reluctantly, with the proviso that she can only stay through the harvest. Of course she saves the farm and he asks her to stay. Getting there is a nice, fun read, though.
This is such a sweet mail-order bride book. I enjoyed watching Patrick and Hope’s love bloom amongst an apple orchard. It’s a beautiful setting. The characters are warm. Ones I’d love to sit and chat with. If you enjoy small-town historical romance, this book’s for you. I can’t wait to read more of the author’s work.
I enjoyed this gentle story of a found family. Patrick and Hope weren’t meant to meet, let alone get married. Their business transaction turned into much more. She was a great help with the boys and his orchard with her servant’s heart and her gentle determination won his heart. Great story with a great ending.
This was a short and sweet mail-order-bride story. What started as just a marriage of convenience, turned into a sweet romance between the two characters. I enjoyed reading their interactions, but due to the shortness of the story, it definitely lacked the satisfying build-up you would find in a full-length novel. Despite that, there were some cute moments and it was a fun read.
I loved it! I haven't checked yet, but I hope somewhere there's a story about Leon, how he arranged his mail-order marriage to Victoria and how her parents became part of that deal. That would be amazing!
Wonderful!!!!! I can't wait to read some of her other works!!! it is just perfect for and fall evening with a warm cup of something while the sun sets!!!! It will make you feel all warm and fuzzy!!!!! Especially perfect if you need a sweet romance to cheer you up!!!
Sweet story of a mail-order bride that turned into so much more with this ready-made family. If you're looking for a shorter and enjoyable historical romance, A Surprise Harvest Bride won't disappoint.
This novella was pretty good. I liked the characters and the setting. I haven’t read many books set in an apple orchard, so that was fun. It did feel a bit rushed at times like something was missing, but most of the time the pacing was good. I liked the ending before the epilogue.
A Surprise Harvest Bride by Wendy Klopfenstein is a sweet, clean story about stepping out on faith and learning to trust! This early American marriage of convenience gives plenty of finding out their feelings, just enough miscommunication to bring drama without being burdensome, and enough longing to know they love each other. This found family, grumpy/sunshine story was an easy and delightful read.
A sweet story of survival during difficult times and how love grows.when given a chance even as hard work and patience brings unity and brings family together. Great job.
A quick read but great nonetheless. Clean romance novella. My first time reading this author and I enjoyed it very much. It’s a marriage of convenience/mail-order bride story with a unique setting, an apple orchard 😊
This was a sweet short story that left me wishing it was longer. I enjoyed the characters and the personalities of the two boys. I would recommend this quick and easy read!
An enjoyable short, sweet, mail order bride story. This is a new to me author and I'm so glad I stumbled across this book. I enjoyed Hope and Patrick's story.
Sweet novella. The cover and blurb was captivating and I immediately jumped into this unique story. I received a complimentary ebook as part of the Advent calendar giveaways.
